Yes, it's Costco Optical, so the pace can feel a bit fast, like most big retail environments. That said, the doctors use excellent technology and see a high volume of patients, which shows in their efficiency and experience. They were incredibly patient with my daughter as she learned to put in contacts for the first time. She spent nearly an hour trying, and when she needed to come back the next day to try again, they were just as supportive. Lens prices were better than 1-800-Contacts, which was a nice bonus. As for the glasses, my daughter wasn't thrilled about the selection, but what 14-year-old is ever excited about wearing glasses? read more

Most of the people here are very helpful except for one person. The helpful people would give recommendations on how to use your insurance and will help you fix your glasses so that they are comfortable. If you have experience with an unhelpful person, try to avoid them for your future visits. Their contacts are pretty good because they are fairly priced. read more

GREGO! I bopped into Costco's Optical Dept tonight, needing contacts help (cuz new to contacts). My Optometrist only points me to Youtube when I have questions, which simply isn't enough. Happily Grego (S.F. Costco, 450 10th St ) helped me brilliantly last month (w/ much, incl. ordering contacts) Tonight, I had a new (contact) problem. And despite Costco being crazy-busy, Grego remembered me (my name + every tiny detail of my needy last-visit 3 weeks ago), and was able to immediately solve tonight's most pressing issue w/in 2 minutes. The bonus: Grego put together a 4-week *contacts-plan* for me! I am now only interested in seeking optical care at Costco so I can keep getting above-and-beyond care by Grego! I was always costco loyal and then I went to a private optical place and paid $$$$ for glasses and they were totally wrong and made red letters pop out whenever I looked at something, and my optometrist told me to next time GO BACK to Costco. Since, I have had nothing but great experiences at costco optical. But this last trip was better than great! Jimmy M at the SF Costco helped me find some nice frames and was super patient and comprehensive in explaining everything. Also they contract directly with VSP so I don't need to do anything special with insurance. Also, Jimmy was seeing that I was having trouble finding frames to fit my flatter nose and he even bought some more frames out from the back stock that weren't on the main display. I need those frames with the nose pads so I am used to less options but Jimmy brought 5 more out for me to look at and I found ones I fell in love with. Plus, they had a good deal to get sunglasses too. anyway, I will stay costco optical faithful and had a great experience. AND the line wasn't even crazy. got in even faster than I have when I went to SSF one. they even have snazzy pickup lockers to save time too. read more

San Francisco Costco is one of the worst in the region. It's sad they can't find good courteous local people to staff their store. The Optical people are the rudest, especially the women. All my phone calls with them have been tart and unhelpful, making you feel like you're violated their terms or did something wrong. I asked about my VSP coverage, but she says I have to come in. In person, they tell me there's a $65 copay when VSP told me there are no copays, and that Costco adds these for required additions to the lens like anti-fog, adjustments etc. Costco Optical was never transparent about this. If you must get glasses from them, go to the Costco in Daly City- they are far more courteous although they will probably charge you the extras too. My glasses, by the way, came back with the frame warped. Whoever is doing the backend lens inserts is rough-handling the glasses which the optician has to fix. read more

First time getting prescription Glasses and since i like smaller ones they said try out the kid section lol and they had some cute ones and i found 2 pairs and wanted get 2 each and they said you get 40.00 off each pair after the first one so the price was $339.00 wow that's cheap because most places you will pay lot more then at Costco. So if you need Glasses or an eye exam come check this place out and See Darren he was really nice and patient. Costco is always busy! Even on a weekday during lunch hours. However, they make it easy to get a spot in line by grabbing a number. I was about # 10 in the queue and spent not more than 15 minutes before I was rung up, note that this was even during lunch hours at ~12:15PM on a Tuesday. There were still 2-3 reps working during the ~12pm hours. After verifying my RX and Costco membership, I was to buy a box of 24 contact lenses for $97 bucks, until the cashier realized I was only buying the box because I lost a contact lens while at work. The cashier happily verified my RX again, went to the optometrist's office and got me a single lens at no charge. This saved me from buying more lenses at retail, and I was so grateful, thanks team @ Costco Optical! read more

Two consecutive weekdays trying to book an appointment. First day all I got was an automated "That number did not answer" response. Today I got the same response and finally someone picked up. Without even offering a greeting, the person on the phone said "Costco optical, we're busy can you please call back?". Not sure why I pay for an expensive Costco Executive membership at this point. Every time I try to use an in-house service (pharmacy, tires) I get the impression that they operate under a state of constant denial of service attack. I had my last pair of eyeglasses made here. I purchased $600 in glasses at the end of June from Costco Robinson. I took them back to Costco Waterfront because it was closer and its owned by the same company. I'm was within the 90 initial days of purchase when my frames cracked on one of the arms where heat had been applied at the factory to bend around my ear. While frustrated, I knew Costco would have my back. Instead of a painless exchange, I was initially told she would charge me the full price of a new frame. Then she called her supervisor who approved it. I learned the COSTCO no longer has any Warranty on the frames. She told me no less than 8 times that its not normal for me to expect any warranty from Costco Optical. I was shocked because this is what is on their website "You can feel confident that you are receiving the best possible care when visiting the Costco Optical department." I have purchased 6 pairs of glasses from Costco Optical - but that didn't matter. Unfortunately, they have discontinued their warranty. I am thankful that expressing my discontent to the branch manager resulted in a new eyeglass arm, but not happy to learn that they will not assist me in the future. It seems that COSTCO no longer has our back when it comes to eyeglasses. This is not one branch, it is nationwide. BEWARE. I've learned that Walmart provides a free frame and lens warranty for the first year. Target sells an inexpensive $25 warranty. I have brought in my own frames and Have had lenses made, and I have bought full pairs of glasses that were just as good as the ones I have bought, for much more money, from my optometrist. Costco lives up to their name when it comes to customer service. I bought several boxes of contacts from them and experienced a problem with one pack. The lens was missing! I tried to reach out to the manufacturer and was told to deal with Costco directly for a replacement/refund. When I arrived at the optical department, there was a long wait. I took a number, sat down and waited for my number to be called. When I showed them my receipt and explained the problem, there was no hesitation on their part to promptly replace the bad lens. He checked the stock on the computer and found they had some available in store. Instead of making me come back for the order, he went ahead and gave me the same type of contacts and a few more extras for the trouble of having to come down to the store. I would avoid going on a Sunday if possible. It gets really busy here and expect a long wait. read more

I bent the metal hinge on my glasses (which I purchased at a different Costco) and went to this Costco optometry to get them fixed. They did not question anything about my glasses and just took them and immediately started work. I offered to show them my receipt/Costco card but they did not need to see it. (These were not Kirkland brand glasses either, but I did purchase them from Costco in a different city). Fixing a bent metal hinge is pretty difficult to fix because they have to re-bend a very small metal piece and not only did the workers there fix that but they tightened everything else and my glasses felt as good as new. The workers there were all extremely friendly and I was overjoyed that they were able to fix it. It took them a while and I saw they had to completely disassemble that side of the glasses so I knew it took a lot of time and effort. Thanks Costco Optometry Staff! read more

This may be a good store, and they do provide good service but the products they provide are substandard. Lenses are guarantied for two years only, at about 2.5 years the lenses on my $500 pair o glasses started to peel off, I went back and they told me that is been over two years and is not covered. I am wearing now my 5 year old Wallmart glasses and the lenses are still good and only payed $250 for them. I expected that the Costco Optical would operate under the same principles as the Costco Wholesale and stand behind their product, but they are not. I am not happy with them and Costco should be checking and see how many Costco customers are being neglected. I am a Senior, and they have not heard the last of me yet. I love the Internet. Absolutely worth the money! With the anti-glare/scratch etc., that come with the lens I would normally pay $250 for 1 pair of glasses. I got 3! For that price! (Including my insurance frame allowance) And the Costco employees are the most helpful and friendliest. Buyer beware your eyeglasses are only covered with 30 days warranty and only for manufacturer defects. Walked in, and they said 30 min behind. No updates given after 30 min. Wait till 50 min late and ask for an update. Lady is just texting away on her cell. Lady says another hour. I was like really??? That would be 1 hour and 50 min behind. She was like I dunno could be another 30 and goes right back to texting. I was like so you really have no idea how long. She was like nope, back to texting. I asked what time the appointment of the person currently working with him was. She was like 11:00 (10 min before mine). I was like how long do you expect these appointments to be? She was like 20 min. Back to texting. I ask, why are you scheduling me at 11:10 when you expect appointments to take 20 minutes? She was like no idea, back to texting. Yea..... not coming back here. They're not going to miss me though they are way overbooked. If you want something convenient at Costco and can wait hours for subpar service, sure. When my prescription changed, I had costco put new lenses in some existing frames. They have a $20 surcharge if you bring your own frames, which is not that bad considering how inexpensive their lenses are. However, the new lenses were delivered to me filthy with fingerprints that were very difficult to remove. I had to wash the lenses both with a liquid lens cleaner and also use the alcohol-based glasses cleaners provided at work, all told about 30 minutes of work. read more

I brought my prescription to Costco in San Francisco (my first time trying Costco Optical). Jimmy was knowledgeable and very helpful when I needed a 2nd frame for computer eyeglasses (after I chose a frame for my every day glasses). It's hard for me to find frames that fit but these frames fit perfectly. When I picked up my 2 eyeglasses, Ceira helped me. She was also friendly and helpful. the EXTREMELY rude girl with blond hair and glasses and a tattoo behind her ear working the optical center needs a severe attitude adjustment. I approached her with a single question that would've taken 30 seconds to answer in regards to the optical appointments. She never made eye contact, cut me off as I was speaking, brushed me aside to continue wiping down glasses (there was no one else around...) - the experience left me incredibly pissed off, it was as if it was her goal to make me feel lower than dirt for thinking her job to help me. This ma'am should consider switching her job to custodial services where her trashy attitude would be more appropriate. WARNING COSTCO HAS CHANGED IT'S GLASSES POLICY SINCE 2015 I have frames. All i needed were lenses - Manager stated they do not take ANY glasses not purchased at Costco. Previously went to Costco in Danville in 2015 showed my glasses and asked how much lenses would be. Very nice staff said they would gladly accept and send them out for lenses but it was out of my price range since my insurance was not accepted at Costco. This year - I moved to SF and went to this location now that i could afford/have insurance. Very rude staff - i was told "I don't want to offend you but I have been here for 20 years and we would never work on these glasses. Have you been here for 20 years?" She also asked me twice "Are these really your glasses?." I was so offended all I could ask was "excuse me?" and she repeated the question. What was the question implying? I felt like she was implying they were stolen and not mine. When I answered "Yes,, they're mine - I bought them" she responded "hmmm I don't know about this." regardless of this atrocious behavior I said "Look, i just needed lenses." They would not even accept the glasses to see if the lab would take a look and see if they could work on it. She said the brand was to high and the glasses were "too fancy" - I have Chanel glasses frames (thank you Lenscrafters circa 2012). Unless you got your glasses at Costco and have proof (they kept asking me to see a receipt for my glasses even when I told them I did not get them at Costco - asking for proof I bought the glasses somewhere else?) don't come here. In order to maintain my lifestyle-above-my-means, I have to cut some corners. Seems to me the easiest place to do this is in the medical arena: I mean, we're all going to die someday and I'd rather die in Prada than polyester. The Costco optometry department is on board with me. Throw $40 or so at them and they will get you in and out in about 10 minutes with a prescription (for glasses- contacts exams are more...). Awesome. I have special contact needs that usually cost a fortune. Not at this chop shop! I got a year's supply for around $100 and a pair of designer glasses (yes! they have designer for cheap) were around $60 total. Boy's run-of-the-mill prescription contacts run about $15 for a few months supply! Which is good, because he has a lot of things to buy for me. The sales staff won't treat you like you're worth a damn, but with the money I save, I can head to Saks, where they'll practically fall at my feet. read more

According to COSTCO website, they have a full service optician, and that members can purchase replacement frames. Great! I have three frames that I need new lenses installed to. They are very conventional glasses, nothing out of the ordinary. So, I drive across town and take a number at the SF 10th St, COSTCO Optical Dept. After a 20 minute wait (not bad) my number was called, and I was assisted by "Shirley". I mention her name, only because she had sort of a sour disposition when she "greeted" me, and it went downhill from there. She looked at all my frames, and after asking if I had purchased anything at that particular establishment, claimed that my extremely normal frames could not be serviced "by our lab". I asked for a second opinion from another person, and she flat out said, that won't be possible. What? I saw 2 other people working behind the counter. The Brush Off! I was getting punted.... I gathered up my extremely ordinary frames and left. 1 Star, only because there is no Zero Stars. read more

5 star service! I must have good karma today because my number was called after only waiting for 5 minutes! Nataliatalila helped me today and was really nice. (Thank God her name is on my receipt, otherwise I would butchered the spelling of her lovely name.) She explained to me to that they didn't have the contacts I needed, but they could order them & after I pay they will arrive 3-5 business days later. In the meantime, I believe another staff, Carol advised her to give me samples to hold me over until my order arrives. Thank you Nataliatalila & Carol that was thoughtful & perfect since I'm going out of town for a few days. Minus one star for lack of information! Even though the staff are knowledgeable and helpful, it would be more efficient to have information/process explained on a board to read, a flyer to take home to review or better yet everything explained on the Costco website! Tips/Info for contacts: 1.) No appointment needed 2.) Remember to get a number as soon as you get there 3.) Be sure to bring the correct prescription. Eye exams for glasses & contacts are different & so are the prescriptions. But if you bring the wrong one, you can call your optometrist to fax one over. If you don't have an eye contact prescription & don't have a optometrist, you can make an appointment with Dr. Woo who's office is within the Costco Optometry. He is great! 4.) Acuvue Oasys Contacts can be purchase in packs of 12 or 24 & you receive a 10% Costco store credit with purchase. I bought one 12 pack for each eye, total of 2 packs for $135 and I received $13.50 in Costco store credit! Nice surprise! 5.) I usually order my contacts here because they are dirt cheap. However I dont know if I will anymore since they have the most retarded process for order new contacts. Unlike any normal place, I cannot order a refill on the phone...no I can only do that if I have an American Express card or a Costco credit card. Apparently I have to go down there just to tell them I need new contacts and then come back 10 days later to pick them up. Now this would be nice and fine if the Costco in SF wasnt a pain to get to for someone with no car. Oh and I was informed of all of this after I sat on hold for 20 minutes. Jimmy made my experience more than great. I phoned ahead of time to my local Costco regarding my contact lens prescription and they told me they had my specific lenses in stock. Since I was I in the area, I decided to just go to this particular location where they unfortunately didn't have my lenses. Jimmy was apologetic for another Costco advising me wrong and advised me to order them online and gave me samples from the optometrist's office to help me get by. He saved me and the world is in clear view again...well at least until these samples run out. Hope my lenses arrive in the mail soon! read more

You would think if you received goods or services from one Costco, namely the Optometry Dept, that the services would be honored and equal care and professional treatment would be displayed. NOT THE CASE. Being in the medical profession myself it pains me to write this review but the code of medical ethics and just general common courtesy and professionalism was replaced by rudeness, arrogance, and a sense of entitlement. Unfortunately my experience with Dr. Stephen A. Woo was clearly not stellar. I recently had my eyes examined at Costco and received a prescription for contacts. When I visited Costco, my eyes were very dry and uncomfortable. All I wanted was the doctor on duty, Woo, to do two things. 1). Give me a temporary pair of contacts to replace what I was wearing and/or 2). To please allow me to purchase a box of the contacts I needed. The answer I got was this in a rude, condescending and arrogant tone: "YOU GOT YOUR PRESCRIPTION FROM ANOTHER COSTCO, I HAVE NO TIME TO CALL OR GET THAT PRESCRIPTION FROM THE OTHER COSTCO, SO YOUR ONLY OPTION IS TO TRAVEL 30 PLUS MILES TO YOUR ORIGINAL COSTCO OPTOMETRIST." You would think the information would be linked or worst case scenario the receptionist there playing with her nails and hair could verify the patients id and call the other Costco to get the prescription. I was truly taken aback at his lack of customer service, the arrogance and his "better than thou prideful attitude." His service/tone is not indicative of the medical profession and what we stand for. Dr. Woo has clearly lost HIS VISION for why he entered the medical field, which is to assist and to better the lives of his patients. Think he traded it in for the almighty dollar! Wow. Just got off the phone after trying to understand if they take VSP insurance. That was so confusing. The woman, whom I couldn't really understand, kept asking me if my VSP was in or out of network? Shouldn't that be a function of the doctor not me? She also told me if she figured out if costco took my VSP coverage that I'd have to cancel the appointment through VSP? I kept telling her I wanted to understand what I would pay with VSP, but the way she expained it, that by her checking if I was covered via VSP at costco, I would automatically get an appointment, and if wanted to cancel the appointment, I would have to do it through VSP? Don't bother. I joined Costco just for their optical services. I did so after calling them and asking about pricing and other information. When I went in for replacement lenses they refused to accept my glasses. I know that when frames get new lenses there is a risk to the frame, but they just refused... well not even just. The first person said maybe it would be ok and I was ready to pay for it all another person came up and said no, they wouldn't take my frames. (They are metal frames, I wasn't worried about them.) They said they only handle simple frames. If you have simple frames, then yes, this place is hundreds of dollars less than any place else. I can't talk to their quality. I was royally ticked off that they wasted my time. Unless you by frames there, I wouldn't risk it. read more
