Routine annual visit to check on my eyes and re-up on contacts. Was booking out towards June but was able to call and find a cancellation to fill for later in the week that I called. Nice early 9am appointment on a Saturday, which was great because I always prefer the earliest time available. Arrived about 10 min before the optometrist even opened but Dr. Edna Lee came to the door and let me in. Chilled on one of their chairs while she finished setting up, then began my appointment. Dr. Lee is very personable and easy to talk to. Clear instructions given as we went through all the vision exam. Entire experience was about an hour as we did a couple extra tests that I haven't done before, just to look into my cornea and eye pressure. After the exam, it was easy to preorder new contacts. Confirm your mailing info as you can have them sent directly to you, or to the office for pickup. Love the convenience of home delivery. read more

My wife has gone to Dr. Lee for 30 years. She is the one who turned me on to Invision 7 years ago. We both love Dr. Clifford and Dr. Edna Lee. That is why writing this review is painful. The service and staff have always been great until recently thanks to one particular individual. I'll codename him the rooster. My wife and I go in to drop off our glasses. I needed to update my lenses to the new prescription while my wife needs to discuss how the lenses might be the cause of some vision issues. The rooster, whom was helping us proceeded to explain to her in a less than polite tone why she was mistaken. My wife tried to explain further what she meant. To which the rooster stated "as I explained" in a stern tone how she wasn't experiencing what she was experiencing. He proceeded to make my wife feel pretty small. I had to step in to stand by her to make sure things returned to a more respectful tone. The job of customer service is to help, not to make customers feel stupid for the help they require. The rooster failed to accomplish this. He did succeed in assuring that this visit to Invision Optometry would be our last. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Clifford Lee for years (10+?) for my annual eye exams. He is the best optometrist out of the seven or so I've had thus far (I'm a woman of a certain age). Dr. Clifford is thorough in his exam and explains what and why he's doing it as it relates to my eye health. He will explain more because I ask lots of questions. He is sincere, personable, interested, engaging, and interested in what I have to say and my numerous questions. The machines and tools he uses are sophisticated and up-to-date. Invision Optometry is a reasonably decent-sized retail space with the medical office in the back and glasses/sunglasses sold in the front of the office. They have a great variety of glasses and sunglasses. The office is super clean and attractive. He has a handful of professional and attentive help for the back and front office. I've been going here for about 7 years (right when I moved from Orange County) and I would highly recommend here! I chose here because I got LASIK done in Orange County and they have worked with the LASIK doctor before. I love the staff! They are very friendly and are knowledgeable with insurance coverage. Dr. Edna Lee is very smart and answers all my questions ranging from LASIK enhancements to dry eyes. She's helped me with reducing the amount of styes. The glasses selection is AMAZING! They have a variety that are VERY trendy! I have gotten a few glasses from them that are very light and unique. I even got a pair with inverted nose pad, which is great with reducing the nose pad indentation haha. Ordering contacts has also been a breeze. They can also write you a glasses or contact lens rx. The location is perfect! I make it a weekend morning trip into the city and enjoy brunch afterwards to let my eyes recover from dilation haha. I am a retired surgeon and have been wearing glasses for more than 60 years. I have lived in several states. I was referred to him years ago. We had moved here and were not happy with the care we had received at 3 different offices our first 7 - 8 years in SF. He really is the best. You could not want a better Optometrist. Dr. Clifford is great, but the whole front of house feels like they don't want you there. Need to ring a doorbell to come inside, and strongly encouraged to have an appointment, even for the most basic task like ordering glasses/contacts. You don't get enough time to browse, and you get shoo'ed out onto the street. In my case, I was replacing the lenses in my old glasses. So for the process, I gave them my glasses, and instead of being able to stay inside, they escorted me out to leave, and I was walking around Fillmore street for an hour, blind and in the rain. read more

I recently received my annual vision checkup with Dr. Clifford Lee. He is patient and thorough, listened to and addressed all my concerns. All his tests and equipment provided a complete picture of my eye health and vision status. He and all his staff are masked for covid safety. They have a wide selection of glasses, but there is no pressure to purchase from them if you don't find something you like. They will provide you a copy of your prescription. The location is great for shopping or a meal, and i always find a 2 hour parking space within walking distance. read more

I have a very generous VSP allowance that I wanted to use on some shades before it resets at the end of the year (use em or lose em plan). I have been in about 12-15 different optometrists (the good thing they are clustered together) and must say Invision had the nicest set up and coolest offerings of them all. I have been doing a lot of research on glass/polycarbonates/Ti/etc and have learned that sunglasses are a bit of a scam and that there is a major corp that owns a bunch of brands that I always considered as 'premium" but in reality, they are just MEH. Won't get into it, but all the optometrists had similar offerings from this corp. However when I walked into Invision, I was like "what brand is that" and "wow, I haven't seen Vuarnet in decades." They only had 1 brand from the said corp (I think) but more importantly they had a great selection of Indie Brands. I felt like Invision was curating their selection vs. just pumping out the most common shades that most people buy (no Wayfarers here). I was introduced to a great selection of cool stuff! I want to give a special shout out to Peter, the manager who I was lucky enough to get to assist. He gave me a lot of 411 on the industry and took care of me while I was there. Another stroke of luck was the Dita rep happened to be there, so I got to try on basically any model I wanted. He was a cool dude too. The prices are on the higher side but the offerings are premium and the designs are more detailed and unique. Plus they are in network with VSP! Thanks again Invision!!!!! read more

This was the second appointment I've had with Dr Edna Lee at Invision Optometry. The facility is clean, has state of the art equipment, and is very efficiently run/managed. Dr Edna Lee is knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant. The exam was thorough and she had an extremely gentle touch when lifting my eyelids. The explanations of the images she showed me on the computer at the conclusion of the exam were clear, informative, and educative. I never felt rushed or hurried during the process. My bill was clearly explained and the staff was very professional. I am returning to pick up my eyeglasses in a few days and will definitely be returning to Invision Optometry. Having interrupted my healthcare for more than a year whilst segregating from everyone else, it is finally time to catch up. If you scan most reviews here on yelp you will see comments on how this and that optometric service has a great selection of frames. And yes we all want to look good, even me. And yes I was able to get a wonderful frame at Invision. But what is really important when you and I go to an optometrist is to get a vision check that will make sure that your vision is safe. Since I have diabetes a disease that can cause damage to the retina when unchecked the vision check-up is most important. More so than the frames. The vision check here was magnificent and not only included dilation of my eyes but also a retinal scan. So now my eye site is OK. One less thing to worry about. Next, onto the colonoscopy. One word--Alex. Alex knows his lenses. I tried progressive lenses at a few other optical places and they just felt wrong--like I was under water or looking through a fishbowl. These places would say "it can take up to 2 weeks to get used to progressives." Weeks later, they still felt wiggidy wack. A friend of mine who used to work in optometry said I needed to go see Alex at Invision. The difference of the quality of lenses he uses is like night and day. I brought in two pairs of frames for progressives, and wow--I can finally see! No more fishbowl effect. It took seconds (not weeks) for my eyes to adjust to these lenses. Alex knows his stuff. I'll never go anywhere else for lenses going forward. Yes you'll pay more, but seeing is believing. read more

However I have to give an extra shout out to Peter. I followed him over from the previous business he was with- because of how good he is at what he does. He is always able to find just the right pair of glasses (sunglasses) for me, gives me a very honest opinion of what works on me, guides me through the different lens options and then making sure the glasses fit on my face perfectly (and with progressives that they are aligned with my vision). This place still dilates your eyes - definitely an outdated and barbaric practice, there are much more modern machines that do this more accurately these days. Also didn't ask me what my insurance was at all ahead of my appointment so I ended up paying out of pocked for the full exam. read more

Their staff's communication and scheduling is absolutely horrible. I also felt disrespected when I brought my Warby Parker's in to get fitted and one of the associates said, "oh these are clearly not one of ours." The staff needs to be trained on how to be professional with their customers. Arrived 10 min before my appointment and was asked to stay outside on street where drunk people approached me a few times. And the employees 3 of them were standing inside and talking?!? And even past 10am no one went outside to get me and when I knocked again they appeared to be "surprised" to see me... even though 10min ago told me to stay outside on the street!?! Despite a friend telling me how great Invision was, I didn't listen and went to a place closer to my house where the service was underwhelming and they gave incorrect information about my insurance so I ended up paying in full for the exam despite originally being told it would only be a small co-pay. Fast forward one year, and I decided to drive the extra 15 minutes to see Dr. Edna Lee at Invision Optometry and I am SO glad I did. The entire experience was seamless and the quality of care exceptional. It was easy to make an appointment online (though they are very busy so it took a month to get a weekend slot). I filled out a patient form online, and someone from Invision called me to discuss insurance and let me know that I only had to pay a $25 co-pay. When I walked in, the store was beautiful, immaculate, and filled with lovely art on the walls. I only had to wait five minutes for Dr. Lee. She was friendly, conversational, professional, and was great at explaining each part of the exam. Because the exam only showed a little nearsightedness, she said glasses were probably not necessary. I appreciated the transparency and the fact she did not try to sell me anything. While I was chatting with the cashier, it turned out she had just been admitted to UC Berkeley's School of Optometry, which also shows the quality and skill of the staff in addition to the optometrists. You know how sometimes you'll see someone with the coolest eyeglass frames and you want to ask them where they got them from but you're just too embarrassed to ask? This is one of those places where you can find those funky, offbeat, stylish, statement making frames that just perfectly *fit* your face. How do I know this? Because after wearing my frames just once, I had three random strangers stop me and tell me how cool my frames are. Stranger #1 was in the ladies room and commented while I was minding my own business washing my hands (like a proper lady should). She looks up and says, "oooh--ehhmm--geee, your glasses are sooooo cool." Ahem. "Why thank you, I say." Stranger #2 was happily drunk (but still coherent) at a bar in SF, and danced his way over to me. He smiles and while he took his time getting his words out, he yells into my ear, "Girl, your glasses are fly." Boom. You guys get the point. I can't take all the credit for these frames. I owe much of this to both Liz and Sean who helped me pick out these babies. Let's call them your personal eyeglass frame stylists. They didn't care that I walked in near closing time. They didn't care that my indecisive self wanted to take my time trying on endless pairs of frames. (Oh wait, did you have this in another color?) A great optometrist in the Fillmore neighborhood. Dr. Clifford Lee was really friendly my first visit here and fun to chat with. I like him because he talked me through everything he was doing and did a nice job explaining certain steps and why they were important to know. He gave me a few samples of daily wear contacts to try, saying I may like them more than my monthly. I was pretty unsure, but after trying a few samples, he was totally right. I was introduced to Invision Optometry by a friend who worked in the front of the office. She has moved on to managing another store, but I still go back there because of Dr. Clifford Lee. I recently needed to complete a DMV form, because I had a childhood eye injury that the DMV just got around to noticing -- after how many years? Luckily, they had a cancelation and two days later I was in to see "Dr. Cliff." I had no problems with the staff (they were charming and friendly), and I had a great experience with Dr. Cliff. He is a great optometrist. I was hit in the eye with a dart when I was 4 years 9 months old. I have been to ophthalmologists and optometrists all throughout my life. I find Dr. Cliff to be exceptionally talented. During my most recent visit, I mentioned a visual disturbance I have experienced and he knew just what to ask to diagnose the issue, he articulately described the condition, and he reassuringly advised me about when to be concerned and what to watch out for. He set my mind at ease. He is a very effective communicator and he is very very knowledgeable. I read another review that criticized Dr. Cliff's use of eye drops to dilate the pupils during the exam. Trust me, you want an optometrist who does this. Dr. Cliff has all of the latest eye exam equipment, but he knows the limitations of the technology, and he uses the technology as one of many tools to evaluate a patient's vision. The eye drops are no big deal. One needs to see through a large pupil opening in order to see all around inside of the eye. The most effective part of his exam process is when he actually looks closely at your eyes with his eyes. There is no substitute for eyes studying the structures inside and around an eye. I found Invision originally as I desperately searched for a VSP provider who had legitimately good selection. Fast forward to recently and Peter was the absolute man in my last purchase, helping me find just the right prescription lenses for a pair of sunglasses I brought in. I put Peter through the ringer, walking through every possible customization option, and he was extremely helpful at every step.
