Would not recommend this place. The owner does not care about you or the product he is delivering. He told me on the phone the price to get lenses would be $80 and then when I show up to the store he says its actually $150 and $80 are for cheap plastic lenses. Also told me it'd be available for pickup within 5 days but took an extra week. And then the glasses don't feel right and distort my vision and all he says is "I did what was on the prescription". No refunds, no adjustments, no care whatsoever. Wanted to support a local business but a place like Jins would've done a much better job faster. read more

I used my insurance to cover my newest prescription. I have great coverage, so the co-pay is low and I get all the bells and whistles. Then I decided I wanted to use different frames to have another style in my collection. Since I used the coverage for the first pair, I needed to find a place where I could pay the out of pocket cost without breaking the bank. I looked online, called several places, and found the cost to be too high. Then, luckily, I called Payless. Felix quoted half of what the other places would charge. I went there this afternoon. Nice little shop on 21st. I have been wanting to replace my glasses these last few months, but with a broken frame it just made sense to suck it up and get a new set of glasses Now. Note : It is not a large shop yet there is an extensive selection of frames hidden in the numerous drawers behind the counter to chose from. In the end I was able to get a fair price , and a reasonable delivery date , will be looking forward to picking up my glasses in the coming weeks. Felix is also a Craftsman so if you need a repair there is a good chance he can assist you at a fair price. As for parking , the block is not busy so there is a decent chance of scoring a meter though I found a non meter spot a block to the East. If you have vintage frames, Felix is great. I contacted him through email and was very responsive. He advised me where I can I get my eye exam, he replaced the lenses for my vintage 1950 glasses, cleaned them, and he was very accommodating when I asked if he can adjust the fit of my glasses after I left his shop. Felix is an absolute genius and repaired my favorite pair of glasses that I accidentally sat on when I was 20 pounds heavier. These glasses are my absolute favorite: FENDI brand glasses that had the perfect retro 70's secretary look: slightly oversized and purple at the top that gradated into a retro burnt orange color at the bottom half of the frames. My glasses were what I thought to be almost beyond repair: one arm had completely fallen off and the other arm was bent downward so that the glasses were unwearable and the arm connecting the nose pads was swinging left to right. I could've let these glasses go and the original optical shop I purchased them from told me to do so, but I knew that I should keep the faith and I could visit Payless Optical for the first time and Felix could repair them. Felix looked over my glasses turning them left and right, up and down with respect and focus, smiled and told me that he could do his best and have them repaired for me. I came back in less than a week and the glasses look and feel brand new!!! I couldn't even believe my happiness seeing that these glasses were not only repaired but revived. I haven't been this happy in a long time! I told Felix that I almost want to sit on a few more pairs of my glasses to have an excuse to come back! Felix is very experienced and kind... working in a small shop in the Mission where I assume he has been for years. He repaired two pair of sunglasses that I had had in a drawer for a long long time. And did so while I waited and for not a lot of money. He is also of Ukraine descent and in these troubling times I was touched by his concern for his home. important note! Payless Optical moved around the corner to 21st and CAPP!! there's this strip of Mission St between 20th and 22nd, with something like a dozen optometrists on it. I'm a clumsy person, and I break my glasses regularly. last month, it was a simple problem - the right arm of my specs fell apart. should've been an easy fix! but of all the shops on the strip, even the ritzy marbled floor joints, not a one could help me without quoting some crazy inflated repair price of like $100, or just scratching their heads... but PAYLESS OPTICAL, oh how I sing your praises. the guy took one look at my glasses, estimated 20 minutes, and returned in about that time with a *perfect* repair. total cost? $20! awesome! and while I waited, I admired their faded posters of glasses models, and their amazing selection of big round glasses that make you look like you fell out of 1973... So glad I found this little storefront! I don't have vision insurance so I came in with old frames to replace my lenses (frames are so expensive!) The gentleman behind the counter gave me a card with his info and a note on the back and directed me to walk over to Mission Street for an eye exam. It was only $65 and the optometrist did everything, she even gave me a free sample of allergy eye drops! I returned with my updated prescription and (for another discounted price) new lenses.
