I drive a 2019 Subaru Outback and it had the original battery so it was long overdue for a replacement. I called ahead of time to make sure they had one in stock and they did, so I stopped by a couple hours later. I was immediately greeted by a very friendly gentleman who showed me where to park. He had me pop the hood and checked my alternator, then went to get a new battery. He went to work on replacing it after checking the settings in my car. Once he was done he cleaned up the battery acid from my old battery corroding and I was good to go. It came out to a total of $180, $170 for the battery and $10 for install. The man who helped me was very friendly and knowledgeable. He told me what he was doing before he did it so I knew what was going on. He didn't talk down to me because I'm not a man a which was a welcome relief. Note that they won't work on Subarus if they were made in 2020 or later due to how Subaru batteries work now. I didn't catch the whole explanation but it was good to know. The place itself is small and easy to miss but they have everything you would need battery-wise. They do installs for you and make sure it's all working, all for a very good price. I will definitely be back!

Never again. Mac's…read moreused to be a great place to buy a car battery. However 2-3 years ago the business changed ownership and they moved locations. Long story short, I purchased a car battery and it failed while under warranty. My car had not been started for over a week. I jump started it and then took it to my mechanic that I have used for years. He did 2 different tests, and told me both tests showed the battery was weak and I would need a replacement. Note...my mechanic doesn't sell batteries. He gave me 2 computer read-outs that showed the battery was weak. I took my car back to Macs and told them what had happened and also told him that my mechanic had said the under-warranty battery was weak. This battery had been purchased from Macs less than a year, so it was under full replacement. First the guy at Macs suggested there must be some type of "draw" on the battery. I told him my prior Battery from Interstate lasted around 4 years so if there was a "draw" it just started to "draw" with the new battery. Then the Mac's guy did some testing and said the battery was still good and not weak. Then I showed him the mechanics report that showed 2 different methods of testing, both showing a weak battery. That's when the story changed and Mac's grudgingly replaced my battery. Then, 1.5 years later with the Mac's replacement battery, and not starting the car for a bit, the same thing happened again. Again, I took the battery to my mechanic and again, he ran 2 separate tests. This time he said the results of one showed it was "average" but the other test said he said showed low. No I'm not going back to Mac's for a replacement. Mac's has lost my business. Bottom line, based on them suggesting there was nothing wrong and me showing 2 reports saying they are low, I don't trust them. I went to a store and bought an AC Delco that has a 4-year total replacement warranty. It costs more than Mac's, but I expect it to last 4 years...even when I haven't started my car for a week.

Decided against this price. Drove to Advance. Their agent told me he would NOT sell me a battery until they tested the on I had. Fine. Their battery was about $30 less, so even if I had a brick, I'd be okay. Testing proved my battery after 45 minutes of being recharged by running engine was now ALIVE! "Ha ha ha! Give my battery LIFE"! (Thanks to Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder). So, they fine folds at Advance did not charge me, sent me on my way and gets my eternal gratitude. The $5 dollar entrance fee is reasonable. Some days you have a scorching dust bowl, others a sobering mud pit. Wearing work boots and gloves is key. Same with a tool bag, backpack, and plastic bags to pack parts in. Hand wipes and paper towels are invaluable for cleaning hands, and parts to see their actual condition. Good to know the vehicle year/models I am looking for to tell the counter person so they can print me a list of the vehicle locations. I also bring a checklist with part numbers and descriptions to make sure I get the correct parts. Only noteworthy critique I have is that most vehicles have oily, rusty drive trains, etc thrown on the the seats. Unfortunately, that can make accessing the interior difficult and damages many interior parts.

The story of locking myself out of his truck with the keys in my hand makes for a great phone call. I walked in and was immediately greeted by an employee, who was very kind and helpful. I explained what had happened. He took it all apart and asked me questions. Given it isn't my own truck and key fob, I didn't have the best answers. The nicest thing was the employee asked me if I knew about the hidden key inside the fob. Which I didn't until I called my friend when the fob stopped working. I really appreciate when someone wants to teach me something new, and was kind about it. The employee had everything fixed and put back together in less than ten minutes. I asked if we could go outside and test it. We walked out and each pushed the lock and unlock buttons, so it was clear everything was working perfectly. I noticed two other employees who asked if I was being helped and then moved on to the next customer to help them. They all appeared to be as kind and welcoming as the one helping me. The whole thing cost me like $25. It wasn't expensive, in my opinion. He stapled the receipt to a flyer that I left in the truck for warranty purposes. He was happy to put the warranty stuff in my friend's name and phone number. When cashing me out, he asked if I needed anything else. I said, I've never been here. Find me something I can't live without. He told me about a couple specials, although nothing I needed at that moment. But he still tried, and I was happy to hear about all of it. Would I return? Absolutely! The customer service here was amazing. Most of the time when I'm talking about anything car related, I'm met with someone who is condescending because I'm female. It's happened a million times before. But it didn't here, and I'm definitely impressed. It took ten minutes and $25 for the problem to be fixed, with no effort on my part. It was all done for me. I'm new to the PNW, so color me surprised when I turned on my outside car's heater and got hit with…read morethe distinct scent of zoo and port-a-potty. Yup. Rats had moved in. This being a time-sensitive matter, as rats could end up chewing through wires the longer they live in your engine compartment, Sun Automotive thankfully made space for my poor car the same day I called. They kept my car for 3 days and were able to work it in around other customers. They found the nest in my heater box and removed it and sanitized everything and changed the air filter where the rats had started another nest. After all of that, they sprayed herbal rat repellent and sent me on my way. They're pretty expensive, the rat repellent they sprayed was about $140, but they do good work, communicate updates well, and they worked me in same-day when other mechanics I called quoted me a whole week out. Overall, I'm very pleased that they were able to get the rats out before any more damage could occur. My car is now safely in a garage, so this will hopefully never happen again. I plan to return to Sun Automotive for regular maintenance.

You might see some positive reviews and that's only because the people that are writing them still don't know they got ripped off. I arrived in Eugene OR five years ago and the engine light went on in my SUV. I happen to be near an auto parts store and knew they had some testing device. They said they I needed some part replaced, I don't remember what it was called now, but it was $200 and easy to install. I didn't buy it then but went to Sun Automotive on Rustic Pl., to get an estimate to fix it. they looked me in the face and said it was gonna cost $900. I told him how the auto parts store said it would only cost $200 for the part and that would be easy to install. but Sun Automotive said the auto parts store didn't know what they were talking about and to replace it would be very difficult to get to. I suspected a rip off and went to a different auto repair company down the road. Not only did they tell me it was easy to replace that part, but when they checked out the car, the only thing that was wrong was that the gas cap was loose. I'm telling you folks and I have nothing to gain for making this up. These are conniving thieves. BUYER BEWARE !
