So I went a little while ago and I had an issue with the engine light not illuminating on start up so the guy that helped me said to fix it and didn't test and I didn't get charged. Well today I went in to get a test done because I thought I had resolved the issue. When I roll up it was 5:20 and I asked if they were closed since it said 5:30 and I didn't want to be rude. Both guys had an attitude and were very short with me. Well long story short the light didn't turn on but they went ahead with the test anyways, so emissions passed and the light test failed. So he says it's $30 but if you get it fixed it will be "Only $20". So now I'll be out $50. I feel like they knew it wasn't going to pass so they shouldn't have completed the test. I feel like they were pissed I came late even though I asked and I would have respectfully left if they said they were closed. I've been coming here for 5 years and have never been treated like that. Especially in times where money is tight, I feel like that's shady business practices. I might find another smog business that actually respects and treats their customers well. My boyfriend and I love Instant Smog! It's your one stop shop-- if you don't want to worry about heading down to the DMV to register your car after getting it smogged, just head to Instant Smog and they will register your car for you right then and there and your registration is mailed directly to you in a week or two. We took two of our cars at the same time and it took about five minutes or less for both to be smogged and registered. If you are looking for convenience, this is the place to go! I've done my car smog here twice and although I havent had any issues they are more expensive than most shops at $20+. The plus side is that you usually dont have to usually wait and they have drive up smog stations. They usually get you in and out in about 10 minutes. The techs are semi friendly but not overly. I will probably not return since there are other shops that charge alot less. read more

June 1, 2020 The Instant Smog on Los Altos Pky. Sparks, NV The State of Nevada requires that I smog each of my fairly new cars, even one that's only 2 years old (!) every year. This, my friends, is a huge scam, but one that obviously earns our state revenue. Sure, it employs thousands of people (young men are all I've seen) throughout Nevada, but it kind of makes them my favorite charity in the process. This stupid smog check has become a viral breeding ground in this time of the pandemic. I just returned from having my Hyundai smogged and this was how it went: The two young men on duty were not wearing masks. BOTH of them were in and out of the 3 cars in the row beside me. They then proceeded to BOTH get into and out of MY car, without so much as a hand wash or wipe during the course of the ten minutes that I stood beside my car, socially distanced from them as best I could and wearing my mask. An older couple pulled in and the masked, clearly health-compromised woman offered the man who was going to smog her car a mask and he declined it. Clearly, these men didn't give a rip about who they might be exposing to whatever they might have picked up in the previous car they had just been inside of and depositing into the next car in the queue. I scolded them and told them they should be wearing masks, but they didn't put one on. I told them that they needed to think about other people. I might as well have been talking to a wall. They should also, at minimum, be sanitizing their hands before going into the next person's car. This was a cluster-****, and these guys could easily be super-spreaders. Extremely quick and friendly service here! Was immediately waited on by two friendly techs who were able to answer all of my questions. An added bonus was that I was able to smog and register my vehicle all at once. It was so convenient not having to wait in line at the dmv or use their kiosk to register. Fast, friendly service. Couldn't ask for more! Well other than the fact it is a very convenient location for me. You can also take care of your registration there if needed, they send the new stickers in the mail. What's even better, on this particular day, I needed to do a smog and get my oil changed. I could've pushed my car to the oil change place because it was right next door. I've been getting my smog done here for years and will continue to do so. We have been getting all of our smogs done at this location since not long after they opened a few years ago. I always have a great experience and today was no different. They are extremely nice and quick. I also love that they can renew my registration right there for me and it's all done with this quick and easy stop. I was super impressed with this Instant Smog location today. When I arrived to have my car smog checked and my registration renewed, it was about 11:30am. There were two cars parked in front of the smog stations, and two empty spots. I pulled into an empty spot and realized there was just one technician working. He greeted me and let me know he'd be with me shortly. He finished up the smog on the first car then the second car. He then hooked my car up to the machine as well as the car that had pulled up to the fourth machine. He completed the test on my car, charged my card and sent off the renewal. Total elapsed time...maybe 8 minutes! Talk about hustling to get the job done and being efficient! This has got to be a record! I know it has taken longer with more than one technician working! This place just earned all my future business (also because renewing my registration here is SO easy and worth the small additional charge). Highly recommend this place for your smog check needs!! read more

I would love to give no stars for the service I received here. I went in for an oil change, because of their hours.. I work until late and needed an oil change for my car. So I went into Instant smog. Young men ( looked like high schoolers) work here but I thought," you do need this done" so I decided to get the oil change here. I was the last customer of the night, and the "young men " gave me the oil change. They were very polite, but I was notified that my oil dipstick had broke when they pulled it out. The guy suggested that I go and get a new one. I looked at him and said, well where am I supposed to get the new one? So I called auto zone right there and they didn't have any for my make model. The guy suggested pick n pull. I have also had an oil leak since I have left there. I travel back and forth to my job in South Reno everyday from sparks. I am not bringing my business back here. I actually wouldn't recommend going to this place for service. I left and told my boyfriend about what happened, he told me they were responsible for what happened. But I honestly just don't want to go back and deal with it now. Thanks but no thanks, I will stick with my regular place I go to. read more

Just came to this place this morning and the guy working had a red/gray go-tee beard and was wearing a beanie. As soon as i pulled up at 7:20am he looked at me with the dirtiest look i can imagine. I thought yeah I'm 10 min early but i don't mind waiting. As i was waiting i noticed he kept giving me the dirtiest looks as he was setting up his computers and equipment. It felt very awkward like he def didn't want to work and he was mad i was there. As it got closer to 7:30am he started yelling at me to back up my vehicle (I'm assuming i was parked a little to close) he never said how far back up so i backed up my vehicle quite a bit. A minute later he starts screaming "WTF back up" at that moment i just told him i don't need to be here and i left! I found this place bc i live close by and it had a good rating but after this experience i will never go back here!! Worst customer service ever and hopefully that guy doesn't work there for much longer while he's pushing away business. Very disappointing!! read more

Smog is expensive, believe it or not there are places in Reno you can pay 18$. There are no signs telling you where to go, and no one directing or greeting anyone. The men on the smog side were not welcoming, or happy to be there. I had heard about this place and thought I would give it a go. 10/10 would not go back or recommend. read more
