I've been getting lunch here pretty consistently for the past few months. I think the owners are Vietnamese and Indonesian, so there's a little bit of a mix of other dishes outside of your standard pho and banh mi. My go to is the steak/meatballs pho, and a grilled pork banh mi, but I've tried almost everything over the past few months going here. This place has great beef Pho but that's about it. I feel as though this place is a bit too Americanized because the menu is filled with too much vegetarian crap. How can you hope to have good food when you have so many crazy variables, for example... Garden rolls with Shrimp or Pork or both or just vegetables, or vegetarian fried spring rolls or Pork. There aren't any Asians eating in this restaurant. The only Asians within this establishment are the owners. Solid Vietnamese food. Ordered takeout which they got ready really fast. Got the Bun. Noodles were a little too firm for my liking but otherwise everything was fresh and tasted good. Went back to sample the banh mi (chicken). Again, good but not great. There were absolutely 4-star worthy elements - the bread was right, with a great crunch on the outside while soft on the inside - the portion size was great, the toppings were all there (pickled daikon and carrot, cilantro, chilis plus cucumber and potentially a Vietnamese herb that added a nice flavor), but the chicken was a little jarring - too salty by half and, more to the point, salty with a soy flavor. Not what I wanted from a chicken banh mi. I've had chicken banh mi that were basically just plain roasted chicken and chicken banh mi where the chicken was grilled with lemongrass - both were quite good and totally different. This is a third distinct style, but it wasn't a huge hit for me. Good, but not great. Overall verdict: I'll keep trying their menu, but their chicken banh mi was miles behind Spring and Sprout in Washington, DC, whose chicken banh mi is to die for. read more

This place was much better than we were expecting. -Got summer rolls, a bowl of pho and also a vermicelli noodle dish, all of which were delicious! -Had to wait a little longer than most pho places for our food, even though they weren't that busy. Maybe because they take their time to make it (at least I'd like to think so). But when I read the article in the October 2014 issue of Baltimore Magazine, my heart skipped a beat. I have had Vietnamese on the brain for the last 24 hours. So I had to check it out! I make suggestions for where to go out to eat, and being a resident of the Mt Vernon area, I like to send our guests to the wonderful and unique restaurants in my neighborhood. Well, I will definitely NOT RECOMMEND INDOCHINE! The food was not what i expected! I ordered vegetarian options, was sooo bland! THE SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE! I was seated, immediately brought a glass of water and was asked if I was ready to order, I hadn't even situated myself nor opened the menu! Are you kidding me? I wasn't thanked for dining there, I felt my server could give 2 shits about me being there! I hardly ate anything, he asked if i wanted to box it up, I said no, didn't bother to ask if everything was ok, never checked on me, just appeared at the end to bring me my check! Even if the food was just OK, as long as the server showed some thoughtfulness and made me feel welcome, instead of an inconvenience, it would have made this dining experience a little better. I've been to SE Asia and have had some killer Vietnamese food here in the states, Indochine is super yummy! The summer rolls (garden rolls) are made fresh and the Pho is tasty. I tend to go for the rice vermicelli with meat and veg when I eat Vietnamese and Indochine's is delicious. read more

Went to this place over the weekend because of a friend's recommendation and the freezing weather that hit Baltimore! First start with the parking - it was a nightmare, but Saturday dinner time in Mt. Vernon, it was no surprise. When you walk in, you're not sure if you went in the kitchen entrance, or into the restaurant - you have to walk by the food prep counter to get to the tables. The menu was very extensive, as you would expect from a pho place, but the food did take awhile to come out, and it wasn't because they were very crowded (very limited seating here). The pho that I got was amazing - the broth was phenomenal and they added onions, which I thought was a nice, original touch. I had a friend who got the hot coffee, which was also amazing! This is one of the only pho places in Baltimore. It is also my go-to pho place, partially out of convenience and partially because I really love the pho here. It always warms my belly and I am always happy after coming here, especially on a gloomy/chilly day. $8 for a small bowl and $10 for a large bowl. For a while, I almost gave up on Vietnamese Cuisine in Baltimore. The few places available are always subpar (Towson, Canton) or closed and with bad service (Mekong Delta). Bless the stars when Indochine came - The prices are fair and the food is decent. If you compare the Pho to NoVa, yes it may be 3 stars but for Baltimore I would argue that this place is worth of four. The pho is excellent. It's hot, the noodles are well cooked, the meat is plentiful, and the price is fair. The spring rolls are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I haven't been able to try the taro rolls because they're always out every time I'm there! I'll get them one day. read more
