I have desperately wanted to love this place for years.Lovely ambiance and close to my home. I believe we have given this restaurant more chances than deserved,
It started back a few years ago when we had a couple horrendous incidents with the waiter, Hugh. One time he questioned our tip and another time (Mothers day) he was trying to rush us to leave by moving chairs and tables around us and the telling our waitress in a loud voice "this is how you get it done." It was clear what he was trying to do (i guess you had to see it in person to understand.)We had another incident where we had to send a steak back twice and the third time it still wasn't right. I contacted what i believe was the old owners and they were disappointed by our experience. They wanted to pay for a meal on them and told us they had many complaints about Hugh and he was no longer employed.
We had a fine experience next time we came in. My husband did not like this place from the moment Hugh questioned his 20% tip that we left during a very slow Tuesday lunch, so anytime we went here was because I forced him to go with me. About 6 months later, i convince my husband to go and we were dumbfounded to see Hugh waiting tables. He was rehired by the new management.
For awhile I had to specifically request to not be seated in his section. After a few visits, Hugh was ultimately our only server option. Hugh's attitude seemed to have a improved a bit but a little late in my mind. The food has not been what it used to be. I order fish quite a bit and my last 3 orders of fish have been average at best. The meal itself is boring, repetitive or sometimes not cooked the way fish should be cooked.
We had some friends come into town on Saturday and they all wanted to go to Indigo Crow. My husband and I hesitated but agreed to go. Six of us arrived to dinner and we luckily did not have Hugh as our server. Everything was going fine until I ordered the Halibut special. I am convinced they started cooking my fish at the same time as they started the steaks that had been ordered by my friends. My fish arrived, it was warm and hard to cut through with my fork. I took a few bites and the fish was chewy and hard to swallow. My husband tasted it and thought it was chicken and my friend also agreed that I should send it back. I am not the type of person to send back food, in fact I will just eat it in misery, like i had done here before. So, i sent it back apologizing for the inconvenience. How is that for backwards. Our waitress apologized too but didn't seem to concerned.
Naturally, everybody has finished their meals by the time my halibut.2 arrives. I take my first bite and instantly I'm happy. The fish is hot and...oh wait. First bite of fish was accompanied by two long bones. I set my fork down and was just done. No excuse to have bones in the fish especially when you are charging over $30 a plate for that fish. After sending it back, the server said sorry but still wasn't too concerned.
She never sent a manager by to apologize or talk to us. Then guess who come walking by, Hugh. That's right, Hugh walks over to an empty table next to ours, moves one piece of silverware for literally no reason (its about 9:00 pm and nobody was sitting on this side of the room) and he has enough nerve to use it as an excuse to look at me. If we had never known Hugh's past we most likely would not have thought twice about this. But, we knew he came over just to see who the dissatisfied woman was. My husband and i both were watching him and it was very obvious. This was the moment that i said, OK. Were done Indigo Crow.
My last opinion is the wait staff here consistently seems off. I can't put my finger on it but comparing to other restaurants in this price range the service is different. I wish the staff would change and the menu would update. Also, if Halibut is the "special" for the evening. Have somebody prepare and cook it correctly! read more
