I need to revise my review. I irregularly with some hair for teriyaki states tonight my steak was entirely made up of nerves. Therefore, I reviewed this meal as a one star and encourage you not to come here because management completely ignored my concern. I hear consistently unexpected the same high-quality customer service as I normally do, but my waiter was dismissive, and the manager ignored me. Customer service is everything to me even good. We were looking for a place to celebrate a birthday. We checked Google and it offered The Pelican as a possibility. We are so happy we selected it. They sat us at a table for six. They offered us drinks, brought bread and took our appetizer order immediately. Jackie was our server. She was a true delight. We loved her. The dinner was a delight to eat. We all order soup or salad and our main courses were different. Everyone agreed their food was warm and tasted great. The place has nice lighting, soft playing music and a great decor. This restaurant should be embarrassed. The treatment toward Native and Mexican customers was blatantly disrespectful and impossible to ignore. We were talked down to, ignored for long periods, and treated completely differently than other tables. Businesses like this don't deserve community support if they can't treat everyone with dignity. There are too many great local places in Albuquerque to waste money somewhere that makes people feel unwelcome because of their background. read more

Absolutely hate that I couldn't five star this place because I really, really wanted to love it! First time at Pelicans West on Coors I'm not sure what compelled us to dine on a Friday night however the staff and service were awesome. There was about a 25 minute wait around 6 PM however we opted to sit at the oyster bar and chef's kitchen counter, with full view of the entire cooking line. Zero wait there! I think that may have been my favorite part of the experience. The team was amazing, and each person had their station down packed! I didn't see any food sent back and they truly have a really awesome kitchen staff. Unfortunately, I wasn't wowed by the food, specifically because of the price. We don't mind spending money for fine dining however I have an expectation when you are paying a premium. My husband got steak and lobster and it was around $90 for his plate. He wanted asparagus instead of a mixed veggie, which was also an additional charge. The salad dressing was amazing! I really liked the salad bowl, which is unlimited, but there was no way we were asking for a refill because it was plenty full. They also served bread with whipped butter and roasted garlic and I was a huge fan of that! Our shrimp cocktail starter was amazing as well. It was fresh and reasonably priced, in order of four was around $16. So that's pretty consistent with the higher end Steakhouse. I'm not sure that we've ever had Australian lobster just what they were serving. It was not it all fishy and it was prepared to perfection, but I wasn't truly a fan of the taste. Lobster tails that we've eaten in the past typically have a subtley sweet flavor and this one did not. Perhaps it's the way it's prepared however, this was just kinda plan. It was served with drawn better, but we hate dousing in additional sauces. Finally, we got mud pie and we're very impressed with their dessert! That was made in house and was truly tasty! Another thing that I wasn't a fan of was that the server left all of the dishes on the counter, so everything was super crowded. I'm not sure why it wasn't cleared after our appetizer course and then after the salad course, however it never was. Perhaps it's a thing to leave the salad there since there's free refills but wasn't a fan of that. So five stars for the experience and the kitchen team, the restaurant was clean so five stars for that as well... I just wasn't super impressed with the seasoning on the steak and lobster or lack of clearing when main was served. read more

The food, the service, the portions. All amazing. Best steak in Albuquerque. Cooked perfectly, juicy and seasoned so well. It was the best steak I've had in a while. My side salad was huge, and the baked potato was delicious as well. Definitely a good meal to split with a friend or partner. I will be back when im in Albuquerque again. So delicious. Sorry I ate it before capturing a photo. It was too good to wait. OH!!! Dont let me forget to mention the AMAZING bread they bring to the table with butter and huge pieces of baked garlic cloves. I love variety, but my Amigas want to keep going back to Pelican's West. We don't vote anymore on where to go because they outnumber me 3-1 and they always want to go back to Pelican's for the salmon. They are hard to resist, so we went back to Pelican's last Thursday. The place was packed and more noisy than usual. Our waiter was a newbie. But we were still under the masterful management hand of Linda, the chief hostess most nights. We got our favorite table. Usually we start with either a grilled artichoke or a shrimp cocktail... or both. The artichoke is a wonderful discovery and worth the work it takes to eat an artichoke. The shrimp are big and tasty, always very fresh. But last Thursday, we skipped the appetizers and got down to business. Pelican's presents itself as a steak and fish place. I had never had the beef before, so I went for the prime rib and asked for creamy horseradish to accompany it. I like their baked potatoes, but this time I ordered the french fries. The entree was preceded by their house salad for all four of us (but their clam chowder is really good, too). I like the house dressing. The house salad is full of delightful, fresh crunchies -- raw broccoli, carrot slices, mixed crunchy greens, little tomatoes. I love salad, and for me it is a big draw at Pelican's. My prime rib came a perfect medium rare, nicely trimmed, great beef flavor, great edge crust, and a piece of meat that I could have fed three teenage sons on back in the day. The french fries showed attention to detail, hot and crisp on the outside, perfect on the inside. If you like prime rib, you cannot do better than this dish at Pelican's. The Amigas all had salmon. I have eaten the salmon at Pelican's perhaps a dozen times over the past year or two. I know what to expect, and Pelican's never fails to deliver it: one of the two best grilled salmons in town (the other is at Season's Grill by Old Town). Nobody was disappointed this time, either. The asparagus is expensive but good, the sweet potato fries are excellent, the rice pilaf has improved to the point that I would come here for it. No dessert this trip. Maybe next time. If you love seafood, Pelican's West is your place. And now, when I want prime rib, I know where to get it. read more

We went to celebrate a birthday. They were very busy didn't have to wait long we had made reservations. That being said they were so busy and well organized. The serve was phenomenal.and the food was delicious. We had lobster, crab legs, steak the waitress was very good she always checked on us and our drinks were always filled. Went to Pelicans for the first time. We were pleasantly suprised. The food was delicious and the service was great. It was a busy night, but we made reservations. We started out with the sizzling mussels which I could have just had as my meal and been satisfied. They were so delicious. I ordered the Sea bass and baked potato with the clam chowder. My husband ordered the steak and lobster with the salad. The salad was pretty hearty with all kinds of veggies, and my clam chowder was full of clams and potatoes. The bread they gave us was also super delicious. The sea bass was a large portion and ended up coming home with me because I was so full after the mussels and soup. The steak was cooked perfectly and the lobster was melt in your mouth delicious. We definitely will be back and order smaller portions. read more

More like 3.5 stars. Good local eatery. They have a really good charred ribeye. The staff are pretty good. They have good drink specials and the let your order oysters Rockefeller by the piece. The Rockefeller is 3 out of 5 but not bad. They have nattered onion rings, fish and shrimp. The batter is too thick. The salad bowl is clunky...order it and you will know what o mean. The service was fantastic and our waiter was a nice young man & very attentive. We walked in on Saturday night early without a reservation and were seated within 20 minutes - short wait. We ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter also informed us that we can bring our own favorite wine bottle on the next visit - BONUS. No complaints on the food. Portions were generous - bread/salad/soup even before the main course. Wife had the Chilean sea bass - which she proclaimed great! I came for the prime rib that I had read about. I know we live in the desert but that doesn't change the fact that they were not worth it. I ordered the Chilean sea bass. It was OK. Slightly undercooked. Not a great sear. My son ordered the same and his was cooked properly. The seared tuna appetizer was slightly overcooked. It was tasty and was large portion. Overall it was just not worth the money. $38 for the sea bass that was not cooked perfectly and while it tasted good it wasn't great. The service was very good. Made reservations for daughter's birthday dinner for six and all went really smooth. Our waitress was really good and was always checking on our party's needs. Food was excellent for the price and enjoyed the bottomless salad bowl. My daughter received a big piece of their delicious ice cream cake at the end of the meal and the waiting staff sang her Happy Birthday when serving the cake. Recently opted to take out dinner and was very disappointed. For a $68.00 + meal consisting of 2 trout almondine dinners, the trout was fried in a coating of what looked to be flour and very bland. One ceasar salad had the core of the lettuce thrown in and we found lots of brown lettuce in both salads. The owner was very gracious & accepted criticism during my call; but after having to pick and throw out lettuce in both salads I am irked. Then lack of seasoning on the trout causes me to give a 2 star review. Usually Pelicans dinners are good, but slipping is unacceptable for the brand and price. read more

My husband and I frequent Pelican's on the Westside since they reopened. Everything we've had has been absolutely delicious. Except.... I had a burger tonight and much to my surprise it was blah. It had filler in it. Since we're foodies, we realize what excellent ground beef is, and is not. They advertised on the menu Angus beef; it may be Angus, but not alone. The beef in the burger stayed binded together and was beige color in the middle. We will continue to frequent, I would not recommend the burgers at this establishment. We pickup Two Steaks...Top Sirloin (T.G.) and Charred Rib Eye (S.H.) The Top Sirloin was thick, perfectly cooked juicy rare w. grilled onions, it was like Too Good...each flavourful bite melted in your mouth....The Charred Rib Eye was nicely blackened with a distinct char taste perfectly cooked medium rare, it was like Smokin Hot. The sides of sautéed mushrooms, rice pilaf, garlic bread and caesar salad, Yes, nice accompaniments. First of all we have been coming to this restaurant we hadn't had an issue until today it was so embarrassing we took some family over to eat they were visiting from DC We had a party of 8 people it took over one hour to get our drinks We had the worst waitress I can't believe they would have someone like her you first couldn't hear her and when she brought our drinks they brought 3 and then she brought 2 more and she spilled some on me didn't apologized then we were missing one drink and she wouldn't come back and when she came back we asked her what about our drink she said someone had taken it but never came back with well one of our guest walked up to the bar and the bartender told our guest that they didn't see an order but the bartender was nice enough to make one for our guest I'm telling this waitress never apologized And that's not it out food was the worst if we requested medium rare it was well done but the waitress was never to be seen finally the manager was involved but this waitress shouldn't be there or maybe she can't handle a big party which the manager should've assigned someone else to our table we were there from our reservation at 6 pm and we didn't get out of there until after 8:30 PM A total of 2 1/2 hours unbelievable I could of cooked at home fresh food for that amount of time We only had the opportunity to only have one drink because this waitress never came back to check if we wanted another beverage I don't see myself coming here no more read more

My wife and I went here for our anniversary. Even though this Pelican's has been around for years, this was out first visit. I am so glad that we went here for our anniversary!! Now for a tip. If you wear a Hawaiian shirt to Pelican's between the hours of 4 PM to 6:30 PM, you get an early bird special. We didn't know that, but fortunately I was wearing a Hawaiian shirt! YeeHaw! We went on a Thursday evening so we got something called a Mushzinni (I could have the spelling wrong). It was a combination of mushrooms and zucchinis. It was delicious. My wife had the Grilled Salmon with wild rice. I totally love grilled salmon, but decided to try something different, so I went with the Trout Almondine with wild rice. I'm so glad I tried something different! That Trout Almondine was so delicious! I'm going to order it again when next I go. As Mary Berry would say, its scrummy. Just a reminder, this is trout so mind the fish bones. The service was top notch. Our waiter was excellent. He came by often to check on us, chatting a bit but not too much. An unexpected evening at Pelican's, but WOW, the service and care was impeccable, above and beyond. We go to Pelican's West once a month. It's a pleasure to know that cravings with consistency will be met. Tonight we, my love and I, shared the charred rib eye with the added sides (love that they offer this). One of the steaks was cooked to medium-well despite us ordering medium-rare. The other was inconsistent, but 2/3 medium rare. We noted the issue. Assuming that one new steak would be corrected, we were instead flabbergasted when two entirely new plates were presented. Ironically, we were sitting at the bar, so, upon presentation of the new plates we looked like absolute gluttons! My love talked to the manager, Robert, to assure that he knew we only had one issue with one steak, and never before had any issue at all, and that we certainly did not seek entirely new meals both of which were cooked to perfection. The manager said, "That's what we do". The service at this location is always thoughtful: the right amount of attention and concern. We also love that they have many young people working there that are clearly receiving excellent guidance and experience. As a teacher, I love witnessing young people being encouraged and learning by mentors that care. It may be that we had one issue with one steak, but the attention, food, and environment makes Pelican's West a continued staple worthy of 5 stars. See you next month! read more
