We had a long wait , probably about 45 minutes but it was worth it. The service was great and so was the food. My wife had the halibut and sweet potato fries. She said it was delicious. I had the char steak and baked potato. The potato probably could have been cooked a little longer but it was still good. My steak was cooked perfectly. Riley was our "Server" and she was friendly and attentive. Very good waitress. We Ordered the Fish and Chips and the Prime Rib. Prime rib is on the thicker side vs large piece. Not cheap considering the size. Fish was very good. Got the Bluepoint Oyster for an appy and they were clean, buttery and big. Overall good food, very casual place. Yes, we waited an hour for a seat. Service is friendly and fast. Fish and chips - the cod is done perfectly. I substituted the French fries for sweet potato fries and they were not crispy. The mud pie is huge, hard to eat and more kids than adults . It's a simple dessert. The mussels have a rich garlic butter but there were many empty shells. The clam chowder is perfect ; creamy with bug chunks of clam and potato. The calamari is also perfectly delicious. Crisp but not overdone - surprisingly just perfect. The tartar sauce was just ok. We came to Pelican's for our anniversary dinner and had a mixed experience. Our first table was wobbly, but the staff quickly accommodated us with a new one-- however we were next to the kitchen booths and it's also loud and clanky sounding. Not bad but attention to detail was missed here . Put up a door. The service was great--attentive, friendly, and fun. We started with a half-dozen oysters, which were fresh and delicious. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. We both wanted the prime rib, but it was already sold out by the time we arrived at 7 PM. That was a real disappointment since it's my go-to order here. Instead, I got the choice ribeye with vegetables, and honestly, it was one of the saddest steaks I've had at a restaurant in a while. No seasoning, just a strong burnt taste from the grill. The vegetables were equally uninspired--no seasoning at all. On the bright side, my partner enjoyed his meal, but overall, I was really let down. I don't think I'm being overly picky, but I've had much better steaks at home. For the price and reputation, I expected more. Would I come back? Maybe for the oysters, service and prime rib but definitely not for the steak. read more

This restaurant should be embarrassed. The treatment toward Native and Mexican customers was blatantly disrespectful and impossible to ignore. We were talked down to, ignored for long periods, and treated completely differently than other tables. Businesses like this don't deserve community support if they can't treat everyone with dignity. There are too many great local places in Albuquerque to waste money somewhere that makes people feel unwelcome because of their background. read more

First timer. I am happy we arrived early at 5PM. So very pleased with great service from Gabby and the Manager very welcoming and came to our table as well. Entire staff from bussers to servers did a great job. I am from Baltimore and very picky about my crab cakes. These were excellent flavor, but for folks familiar with Baltimore crab cakes not as great as those, but very very good. I would definitely order them again. The muscles!!! Loved them and all of the garlic and garlic bread. A garlic lover's delight. Will have those again as well. My dining partner had the fish and chips (Cod and Fries). A very large portion of Cod and he raved about the flavor and said among the best he has ever had. He has ordered fish and chips in multiple ABQ restaurants and this was his favorite by far. Highly recommend Pelican's based upon one visit. Get there early. We ate on a Thursday evening, arriving early, and by the time we left, there was a large line to get in. read more

Another great evening at pelicans, went for husband's birthday, he had the shrimp linguini, oh so delicious, my father and I had steak, perfectly cooked. Well, where do we begin...? My first time at Pelicans didnt start off well... We had a dinner reservation but for whatever reason, we waited more than an hour after our reservation. Fortunately Im an understanding and sometimes too patient of a man. But I understand plans dont always go as expected. We were finally seated and greeted by a very vibrant server...and I wish I had her name, and spoke with eastern European accent. And she was very apologetic for us having to wait. None the less she took our drink and appetizer order, and before long were all chatting away enjoying the evening. What can I say , except its a steakhouse that actually has an authentic steakhouse vibe to it. Very nice staff...we ordered our meals...my steak was prepared exactly I ask... medium rare! Although a freak incident occurred. I swallowed a few flakes of black pepper from my steak and because of the intensity I began coughing really hard to point of choking. I guess it just went down the wrong pipe as they say. From all of the steakhouses ive dined at, that was a first. After that little episode, the steaks were perfectly prepared. The old fashioned I ordered complimented the evening...Pelicans is a great place to enjoy a steak, some adult beverages and if you have it, good company. We went for dinner and it had been awhile. The lights for Christmas were beautiful! I had the scallops and they were excellent although the mixed vegetables had way too much salt. The clam chowder was great and good comments on from those having the salmon and ahi. Good bread, salad and love the roasted garlic they serve with the bread. The Mexican shrimp cocktail was good. The steak and lobster looked great but the steak was extremely rare. By the time the server came and offered to put it on the grill, it was no longer surf and turf. My birthday dinner finished with a dessert he knew I couldn't eat because of my Celiacs. I said it was okay and that my husband could eat it. Half way through the ice cream pie a three inch piece of an aluminum pie pan rim was in one of his bites of pie. Pelican's is always one of my favorite spots to eat and have a cocktail or too. Their happy hour bar menu is fabulous. I absolutely love their crab cakes and ahi tuna for appetizers. They serve bread with roasted garlic and olive oil. It's tasty! I almost always order the Sesame Cesar Salmon Salad which isn't on the menu anymore, but they will still make it for me. I love their homemade blue cheese salad dressing especially when you dip sweet potato fries into it! Yummmmm Their martinis are strong and delicious and so is their huge slice of Mud Pie. You can share it with three to four people. The service is always on par as is the atmosphere. The wood decor makes you feel like you're on a boat and the fish tanks are a nice touch. My wife and i took our grandson and his fiancee to dinner to celebrate their engagement. Tara was a peffect waitress, timing our order perfectly. My prime rib was the best i've had in town. (A large sample) The seafood platter was perfectly prepared and and the kid's charred ribeye and filet's were perfect. my $66 lobster tail was fairly dry and the flavor was mediocre. I could do better at home. When the runner brought us the food, he kept trying to give us the wrong food. It was someone else's dinner. He left and came back again with the same dinners trying to give us the wrong food again.. We kept saying no that's not our dinner. Then there was our server. At the end, she knocked over my full glass of water, never apologized, never came back to mop it up. She just left and we tried to soak it up with the fabric napkin we had on the table. It was 5 of us . Baked potatoes cold, rest of food semi- warm. Not worth the wait. Ended up taking food to go. Warmed in microwave when got home. $265.00 total bill . Not bad. Wow this place is really gone downhill in the last few years. Upon arrival at about 7:00 p.m. on a Friday night I went to the restroom and it was completely disgusting. As a man I thought it was disgusting toilet paper everywhere. I couldn't believe how bad this bathroom was at 7:00 p.m. I got seated with the party of six I had to ask repeatedly for water and additional condiments that we had asked ahead of time for. I ordered their seasoned ribeye which came out great. My wife ordered the steak and lobster; I could not believe how bad her Lofts are tasted she usually orders at any Steakhouse this plate. She couldn't eat more than a third ask me if I wanted some to my surprise it was horrible. The lobster was gummy and lack of any type of flavor outside of the butter that I was dipping it in. My wife later on that night asked if she thought the lobster was funny? Which I replied to her yeah I couldn't even finish it I'd rather finish my steak. We've been going to pelicans, East side, for about 40+ years but the last two years it's been difficult getting a table in the bar area. Even as early as 4:00pm on a weekday when they open they say they are full even though we can see many empty tables. We even tried calling ahead to make a reservation and there are never any open tables. They are not very accommodating. in any other restaurants the bar area is always first come first serve. we've also experienced a couple of hostesses and one particular waitress that have been pretty rude. We've never had any of these problems in the past. We miss the old welcoming atmosphere. We won't be going back because it's too much of a hassle. I had the best time coming in for dinner on a Saturday night. The waiter was incredible bringing more bread and roasted garlic and boxes even tho it was super busy. I loved the bread and green chile chicken soup so much I was full by the time my entree arrived. I had the green chile shrimp Alfredo pasta it was delicious and I'd order it again. Best Prime Rib in the state! It was the juiciest, most flavorful steak ever. The horseradish sauce on the side had a hell of a bite to it too. I ordered mine with the salad and sautéed vegetables. My father got his with the rice. We also ordered some shrimp cocktails. These were HUGE. The salad was a large bucket! They were very good about no onions on that for us (father has an allergy). The homemade Italian has a little bit of a spicy flavor which was pleasantly surprising. They did forget about onions in the rice, but after my father found some, they substituted French fries for him (he was a big fan of the fries as well). I adored the sautéed veggies. Absolutely cooked to perfection. 10/10 would go again. I've got my eye on some coconut shrimp for the next visit! read more

Remember "Delta Dawn"? Well, Pelican's is a "faded rose from days gone by" - the best fine-dining restaurant of 1980 Albuquerque that's still operating. Oh, wow, and the old folks (I'm almost a senior myself now, but I'm talking the OLD folks) just love it. You'll see more octo- and nonagenarians eating here than at any place in town that doesn't have an attached memory-care unit. And Pelican's _takes care_ of them. The place feels fancy to the oldsters: if you aren't into faux roped bridges, you're probably not on board, but they remember this as a date-night/dress-up place. (I always put on a sports coat when I join relatives here - it's what one does.) The Pelican staff (everyone: servers/managers/bussers/hostesses/bartenders) know how to treat old folks with mobility and hearing issues. The old folks have a great time here - Pelican's makes sure of it. You have staff here who've been here for _decades_ and they've become family friends - it's always a joy to see them. Absolute professionalism in the service - which isn't to say that you're guaranteed a perfect experience because the place is PACKED. Pelican's on a Wednesday evening is busier than my favorite places on weekends. But it's packed because the clientele know what they're going to get, know that they'll be shown a good time and are willing to treat themselves. Modern prices sure have gone up (of course), but they're NOT unreasonable (these days) for the level of service. They have a reasonable happy hour menu (I've attached photos) and our experience is that the drinks are great. Here's the rub, though: the food is . . . not great. Not terrible and kind of fabulously dated (the bottomless salad bowl with their trademark green onions crossed over it springs to mind), but I don't think there's anything on the menu that you wouldn't recognize if you time-traveled in from 1976. In my opinion, better than Chili's or Furr's Cafeteria, but certainly not up to the level of the nicer independents in town. A decently ranging menu - I'm a little bit of a fussbudget ("No kidding?" shouts the chorus) and I can find something to eat in pretty much any mood - but I'm also never one to suggest we rush back. Here's the thing: if you're looking for a place to take an Albuquerque local who's been treating _you_ at restaurants since the Seventies . . . well, welcome aboard: Pelican's is a five-star suggestion. If you're looking for a place where you'll enjoy a refined meal - this isn't the ship for you. Pro tip: be REALLY careful in the (unbelievably busy) parking lot. I can't tell you how many times we've almost been flattened by some 4'9" lady careening by in a 1978 Lincoln Aircraft Carrier. I'm not sure the past decades' addition of bars and weed stores to the shopping plaza has helped make things safer. Drive slow and pay attention! read more

Possibly the best dining experience that I've had here in Albuquerque. About a year ago I started asking Uber/Lyft drivers what bars and restaurants they recommend for quality food/service and half of the time I've been told to try out Pelicans. The restaurant itself was an unorthodox rustic building that has a unique atmosphere and ambiance that separated itself from the standard layout of a franchised business. I didn't expect it to be as busy as it was but I was able to get a seat at the bar fairly quickly considering how many family's were packed in the lobby. The bartender was very personable while giving quick and insightful recommendations for the menu and drinks. Everything sounded good, but I went with the Almond Crusted Halibut and a Pina Colada. The halibut was phenomenal, especially with the creamy lemon caper sauce that paired with it. Quite literally the best seafood I've had living in this arid desert. The Pina Colada was a great dessert drink to pair with the tropical atmosphere of the restaurant. I would've gotten another if I wasn't so stuffed by the end of dinner. Half of the time I was there I was talking to an elderly European couple and they would NOT stop raving about how much they loved this place. I could not understand half of what they were saying but from what I could gather they've been dining at pelicans for over three decades because of the restaurants consistent adherence to delivering a quality dining experience without gouging on prices. The restaurant gave off a very tropical / Hawaiian vibe but the experience was that of a true American steak and seafood restaurant. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be returning to explore the rest of the menu with some friends. read more

We dined at Pelicans Saturday night 2/22, busy restaurant seated within 15 minutes of our reservation. Pleasant smiling staff, our waitress Tarra greeted us with overview of specials . The ambience was loud but keep in mind this is a preferred restaurant for local families celebrating birthdays get togethers after a hard weeks work. Drinks salads and bread served promptly, our main course serve together with care and attention for any additional items. Again a friendly smiling staff.
