I've eaten here over 100 times at this point. The buffet is best $10 meal in the city. Rest of menu is good too, the saag paneer, eggplant bharta, bhindi masala, and lamb curries all stand out, but it's hard to go wrong. I'll take this over Taste of India any day. Came in for the lunch buffet, was happy to see a good variety. The food in my opinion tasted crappy but I wasn't too bothered by it as I was just craving some indian food. My partner and I left sort of disappointed in flavors of the dishes, especially the paneer was super bad. About 15 mins after leaving my stomach started to hurt and at first I thought I was having motion sickness from being the uber, as I was telling my partner that I wasn't feeling good, he expressed the same and we realized that it was actually the indian food we had for lunch. Our stomachs were sooo upset that it took two days to feel normal again. Won't be visiting this place again!! Good Indian buffet, but the curries were a bit cold temperature wise, even after giving the sauce a good stir. On a cold Seattle day I was really hoping for some nice hot curry to warm my belly. I'm rarely in the Roosevelt/Ravenna area so when we decided to check out this place, I was a bit unsure of what to expect. We got there right before 6pm on a Thursday and there was no one else in the restaurant other than the people who worked there which made me a bit skeptical. The people were really nice and we were seated promptly. We started by ordering a Mangotini which was nice and tasty as it was believe it or not a warm Seattle afternoon. We then ordered the Mixed Appetizers (Includes samosas, vegetable pakoras, chicken pakoras, fish pakoras, and kabab), Eggplant Bharta (Whole eggplant baked over open flame, mashed and seasoned with herbs and spices), the Chicken Korma (Tender chicken cooked in cream sauce with cashews, nuts, ground spices and crushed cheese), garlic naan and paratha. Other than the Mixed Appetizers which was just ok, all the other dishes were soooooooooo darn good! The eggplant bharta was delicious and the chicken korma was phenomenal. The flavor or the sauce was so tasty and the chicken was cooked to perfection. I loved the fact that the dishes came out in these bowls that kept our food warm. In addition, the service was really good and I liked the low-key environment. By the end of our meal, there were a couple other people who were dining, but one thing I noticed was that there were many people who came in to pick up their phone orders which to me is a good thing as there weren't a ton of people dining at the actual restaurant. Decent restaurant with good food for the price. I visited for a weekend buffet. The grilled veggies with potato patties was very good. The mint chutney was alright and I could find veggies in the pakora than just dough, always a plus in my book. The basics like daal and tandoori were really well done and like back home!! I also liked the turnip curry, very unique and well done. Also they gave me half a naan, which I appreciated. I usually cannot eat a full one by myself and don't like to waste. I was left alone-needed water and napkins and finally ended up asking for them. Also, the owner/chef was staring at me, not sure whether it was friendly or if he was keeping an eye on a suspicious looking fellow Indian. I do look suspicious so I don't fault him. Came here for the first time to try their lunch buffet not expecting too much from it for the $8.75 per person or something like that. Well, turns out that this place is better that your average buffet style restaurant. The food here is VERY good, even compared to regular full-price dinner dishes you get at the popular Indian restaurants in the area. First off, the potato patties they serve as an appetizer is simply perfect! I only started with one piece, not expecting it to be so good, but ended up loading up on them later on. Perfectly crispy on the outside, nicely seasoned, moist and soft on the inside, with a perfect salty-masala powder sprinkled on top. Dip it into plum chutney and you got yourself a party in your mouth! The main dishes were also very good, perfectly seasoned, not very spicy. The mushroom-peas masala was a bit spicier than the rest, and it was great. The tandoori chicken was nice and moist, not over cooked at all. They put out all the dishes in small "batches" and quickly refill everything, so the food is always fresh and hot. The mango mousse they have for desert is a must try too. I'm not big on sweets, but I'm happy I gave this one a try. Not too sweet and certainly tastes like mango. Atmosphere-wise, this place is ok, nothing fancy. Clean room, although there was quite some good dirt/mess by the window where we were sitting. Service is super quick but "reserved/quiet" as what you'd expect from an Indian restaurant. But honestly, I was perfectly ok not to be bothered and just enjoy my food and get out. The direly plates were quickly picked up, so that's all I care for. A friend took me and another friend here on a weekday night, and the food here was delicious! The inside is upscale and elegant-looking, and the ambiance is quiet and a great place to have a conversation while enjoying some delicious food. We ordered eggplant curry, biryani, tandoori chicken, and naan. The eggplant curry was super flavorful and it was delicious. The tandoori chicken was really flavorful too and the chicken was super tender. The biryani was really average though, as it didn't have much flavor. The naan was fluffy and delicious too. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Portions were large and we had leftovers, so paying around $40 post-tax pre-tip was justifiable. The food from this place is amazing! The boyfriend ordered the mango chicken and I got the Aloo Chloe with garlic naan to-go through yelp. We waited 20ish minutes and food was ready to pick up. We got medium spice for everything and the spice level was perfect for us. The mango chicken was so yummy and so is my Aloo Chloe. The garlic naan was bigger than what I expected, we were worried that we ordered too much garlic naan but we ate almost all of it between the two of us. The guy who was getting us our order was very courteous and friendly. We had left overs for the next day and it was still good. It isn't easy to find a buffet on a Sunday evening but after making several calls we finally found India Bistro. The dinner buffet starts at 5pm on Sunday. The restaurant was nice, clean, modern and seemed rather new. Service was pretty good, the quickly cleared our plates and provided drink refills. They weren't especially friendly but they got the job done. My favorite items on the buffet were the samosas and veggie pakoras. Usually I'm not a fan of samosas at all, but these were fantastic! The pakora was light fried and not horrifyingly greasy. They had a decent buffet selection of butter chicken, an okra dish, a lamb dish and several other choices. The tandoori chicken didn't have a ton of flavor and the butter chicken was also not the most flavorful but still good. For dessert they had mango mousse and a rice pudding. I really liked the rice pudding. Glad to have found a decent dinner buffet that we will likely return too. read more

Dropped in for the buffet lunch on Sunday around 1pm. Unfortunately this place was still packed so my experience was likely less than ideal. The buffet is located very awkwardly right behind the majority of tables, so the line up for food wraps through the tables with people's butt's directly in your face as you eat. This also causes people to regularly bump into you when the rush gets larger and people are trying to accommodate the line as well as allow people to get up out of their seats. The servers were all very friendly, but incredibly disorganized. There does not appear to be any grid system, so all the staff wait across the entire restaurant. You are given a bowl of naan and waters after being seated, but because of the rush and disorganization we were forced to wait at least 30 minutes to receive this (well after we'd gotten our first plates). The buffet itself is on the smaller side. They attempted to refill but were definitely struggling to keep each dish stalked. Also, because the buffet is lined up against the back wall, the chef literally pushes his way through the crowd with a bowl of new food and dumps it on top of the old stuff, meanwhile dropping pieces all over the floor and buffet. The food itself was alright. The naan was burnt and tasted off. The curries were lacking in depth or flavor. The grilled and curried vegetables are very tasty. Overall I would give this restaurant 2 stars for mediocre food and bad, disorganized and confusing service. However, I am giving one more star for offering a buffet lunch on the weekends and for reasonable pricing. Parking is free in the garage below, but the lot is VERY SMALL and awkward to navigate. We stopped in for dinner before our usual GeekGirlCon game night at its neighbour Wayward Coffeehouse. We met some friends for a meal and were pleased at the overall experience. When we sat, the server brought us water immediately and complimentary papadum with tamarind and mint chutneys. Our friends arrived (one vegetarian and one vegan) shortly thereafter and had no trouble with the menu. We ordered garlic basil naan, some spicy mixed pickle, saag paneer, aloo gobi, and some lamb curry. The main courses also came with ample rice for everyone. Service was very attentive and pleasant. While I don't think they'd topple our favourite Indian restaurant from its lofty perch, they would work in a pinch. If I were in the area, I'd check out their $8.95 lunch buffet, offered daily from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. and I think they also have a dinner buffet priced at $11.95 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Bathrooms were clean. Street parking is available plus there are also a couple spaces underneath in the shared garage. You'd do better to park in the adjoining neighbourhood and walk over though. I used Eat24 to order delivery from India Bistro this week. My curry arrived luke-warm (I've ordered Indian from several other Indian restaurants on Eat24 and this is the first time my food has not been hot). The "extra hot" was just right for me. My other-half was disappointed that they did not have papadam. I was glad that they provided a large portion of basmati rice to go with our two entrees. Tried the much talked about Indian buffet, I am from India and I can say I didn't really like it. I have been to a lot of Indian buffet places, one is Austin that was awesome but this one wasn't worth the hype. They were very limited in selection - just 2 chicken items, no dal, no biryani. The goat meat was hard and most of it was fatty. Just rice pudding for dessert, not even gulab jamun, plus they had mousse which kinda looked like cake topping but the mango flavour was good. They will bring naan for you but the serving staff isn't that welcoming or interactive. I would say average level of service but seriously lacking the range of options for buffet. If you are hungry and want to fill yourself up with Indian food, go for it but if you want taste and you have a bunch of friends or significant other to try the taste and beauty of Indian food, I would highly recommend you pass on this one. I went to India Bistro for dinner on Saturday. Positives: -The atmosphere is really nice and classy, definitely above and beyond the typical "Ave"-type restaurants. It's very clean and spacious. -The prices are relatively reasonable compared to other Indian restaurants, around $9.95 for a dish. -The dishes are served over a tea candle, which keeps the food nice and warm -The meat (in my case, chicken) is very tender and the spiciness just right (I ordered medium-hot) -The garlic naan is very tasty! Lots and lots of garlic. Negatives: -The Chicken Tikka Masala is not prepared in the traditional way; it's not creamy at all -The serving of garlic naan is not enough for two people; I had to order another which came to a total of $5 just for naan Overall, I enjoyed India Bistro, if not for the food, at least for the wonderful atmosphere. I swear at first this delectable fish had the texture and aftertaste of crab, although after it cooled off, less so. Still, a spectacular red curry sauce, with many flavors and medium spicy was perfect. EGGPLANT BHARTHA: A- . My vegetarian diners thought it was fantastic and gave it an A. India Bistro has completely stolen my heart for Indian food. My husband and I live in Edmonds, but we have no problem driving to Roosevelt because they have the best doggone Indian food ever!! The Papadum, chutneys, Calamari, Vegetable Pakoras, Butter Chicken, Tandoori Combo, and Lamb Jalfraizies are all delicious! We've been there so many times I've lost count. The last time we went we got the Jheenga Tandoori because I was craving shrimp and I always enjoy the two pieces that come with the Tandoori combo. That was exceptionally delicious. I think in the future I'll have a hard time not adding that to our order. The pakoras are in a class by themselves. I've never had a pakora that was its equal. They are perfectly salty and spicy. So perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They go perfectly with the tamarind and mint chutneys served with the papadum. They are so delicious my mouth is watering for them right now!!! The service here is amazing. The folks are always so glad to see us. They always keep our water glasses full and check up on us often, but not too often to be sure we're happy. Do yourself a favor and try this place. Short version: Go to Bengal Tiger instead. We live a few blocks from India Bistro, and have gone probably 6 times. It's ok. The food is decent but not in any way impressive. The service borders on non-existent, which is also fine when you're doing the buffet. Examples of poor service: we walked in this evening and waited to be seated (per the sign). No-one paid us any mind, and several employees continued polishing glasses behind the bar, and setting empty tables. There were two people ahead of us waiting to be seated. After a few more minutes of being politely ignored, they left. Only then did someone come rushing over to seat us. Another example: I'm writing this sitting at the restaurant. We've paid the bill. No-one at any point offered us drinks, asked how we were doing, or provided any service. We had to ask for the check after self-serving at the buffet, and she said "sure, I can do that for you". The dish was very flavorful and unique. :) But the texture of 3) nan was very different from other restaurants I've ever tried. It was much softer and like regular bread. Maybe I don't know the authentic Indian nan, but I prefer crispier and bigger nan. I was expecting more for 4) mousse, since there were so many good reviews. But the texture was too soft as mousse, and it was like mango flavored whip cream.. I'll try other dessert next time. The service was great and very pleasant!
