My friend and I walked in asking for three seats at the bar, knowing it might be difficult to get in. Nevertheless, the hosts were incredibly sweet and considerate and let us know they would try to accommodate us, which they did! We ended up sitting at the bar within five minutes. Our bartender, Tyler, had perfected his craft because it only took about two minutes for our drinks to arrive. It's amazing to think about, considering how many people were at this location. Charleston is a foodie town with a plethora of amazing dining located throughout the city. That being said, before coming to Charleston I did some digging to find the best places to eat! Indaco was highly regarded for their pizza napoletana and their Italian food. I was unable to make a reservation weeks in advance for the Friday my mom and I were planning on dining here though, they were booked for the night! It is a very popular restaurant and I would HIGHLY recommend a reservation if you want to dine here. Since we didn't have reservations we departed our hotel and hoped we could snag a spot for dinner. We were extremely lucky to say the least. Right as the hostess was about to turn us away, someone canceled and provided an opening for the two of us! We were seated right away and were so excited! The interior of the restaurant is really industrial and modern. It is extremely clean and the staff is both very efficient and welcoming. The overall ambiance is rustic and provides for a nice dining experience. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to guide us through it. She was very professional. To start we ordered the Italian Salad. The salad was one of the best Italian salads we'd ever had. The soppressata on the salad was amazing and had so much flavor, paired with the really high quality provolone cheese, the greens, and olives made for a perfect starter. I must note the Italian olives they used made the salad, along with the high quality dressing. Would recommend! We ordered 2 pizzas, which are about 12 inches. The lamb sausage pizza intrigued both of us so we decided to order it, along with a classic margarita. The pizzas don't take a long time, but you may have to wait a little because of the cooking process the pizza napoletana requires. Our lamb pizza came out first and looked stunning and smelled divine! Never had had a lamb pizza before, but wow, this was definitely one of the best pizzas I'd ever eaten. The lamb sausage had a lot of flavor, but it wasn't too overpowering. The other aspects of the dish including the smoked mozzarella and fontina cheese, along with the onions really combined nicely and brought out the smokiness of the lamb. This was a white pie. Our margarita pizza was taking longer than expected. The manager, who you could see checking in on various table and chatting with customers, came to our table and gave us complimentary polpettes. I honestly didn't think that the pizza was taking too long, but this is just an example of how their service goes above and beyond. The complientary polpettes were their housemade meatballs with their housemade red sauce, paremson, and basil. Again the quality, oh my gosh, these were by far the best meatballs I'd eaten. The meat was so flavorful and they were not dry at all. The homemade red sauce was so flavorful as well. This was an amazing dish and I'd recommend ordering it as an appetizer! Our margarita pizza came out shortly after we'd finished the polpettes. It was simple, but delicious. The quality of the ingredients really stood out and made the simple pizza amazing. The basil was extremely fresh and packed with flavor. The red sauce from the polpettes provided for a dipping sauce for our crust too! Overall, our dining experience at Indaco was above and beyond. The service was immaculate, the food was just incredible, and the staff was great as well. We had absolutely no complaints leaving and raved about the meal days afterwards. We both were REALLY happy we narrowly got a dinner in here while visiting Charleston and I would highly recommend making one for yourself if you are planning on visiting! The Good: After seeing that Indaco was the highest rated Italian restaurant in Charleston on Yelp, I made a reservation to give it a try, and we were not disappointed. The pasta dishes were perfection! There was a nice balance of salt (perfectly salted), creaminess, and citrus to balance out each dish. The yolk in my Pork Tesa Tagliatelle brought such a nice creaminess to the pasta dish that married all the other ingredients. The Bucatini Nero with the soft shell crab was equally delicious. We would definitely order both dishes again. || The desserts were good, we got the Rhubarb Panna Cotta Tart and Banana Chocolate pudding. These weren't anything to write home about but was a nice touch to the end of the meal. The Bad: The White Beans were meh... I wouldn't order this again and it was overcooked. &Just the Tip: Stick with the pasta dishes and you will not be disappointed. We are neither gourmands nor connoisseurs. We have had at least four meals here at Indaco, where you relentlessly try to kill us with amassed aroma and flavor and victuals. We have had as many at Indaco in Atlanta, and one each at Oku in Atlanta and in Nashville, TN. I recall the best turnip greens I ever had, in Huntsville, AL. I had liked turnip greens but had not Loved them until Huntsville. All this braggadocio to frame the following: We have considered and agreed (with apologies to family ghosts - some of whom tied with you) that what we have experienced tonight at Indaco of Charleston is the overall best meal we have ever had. A Brussel-sprout sprinkled pizza, a fennel sausage pizza, the angus steak strips with potatoes, salad with thinly sliced asian pear, prosciutto, endive, radiccio, pizza bread strips and three cheeses; marinated olives, white truffle dumplings, and a Super Tuscan wine. This is your go to for Italian cuisine in Charleston! At least it should be because it is now mine. The food is amazing and the service is exceptional! My wife and I came to celebrate our anniversary where we were greeted with a prompt champagne surprise upon seating. A super considerate detail that meant quite a lot to us! Once we saw the menu our eyes we drawn immediately to the tagliatelle. I've had my fare share of pasta and this by far is one of my top 5 pasta plates now. With a beautiful orange egg yolk in the center and a sauce that was just the perfect balance of savory, cheesy, and creamy without being too over the top on either end , how couldn't it be? Ooo and I can't post this review without mentioning the pork tesa that was basically the icing on top that added the carne/meat component. Needless to say I recommend this dish highly. We had an excellent experience at Indaco. Great decor and atmosphere. We were welcomed in a genuinely friendly fashion and seated quickly. Our waiter was nice enough, but came across as annoyed with us the whole evening. However, since the service was excellent, that is fine -- perhaps he was having a bad day. We ordered the sopressata pizza and it was phenomenal - a light tasty crust, high quality ingredients and a nice char on the crust. DELICIOUS. As we travel regularly to Italy, we were impressed by the authenticity of this pizza. We then ordered two pasta dishes. The pappardelle was good, but would not recommend. Egg pasta with egg sauce was not the best combination. The fact that one had to mix the egg in oneself did not work either, as the dish did not come out hot enough to lightly cook the raw egg at the table. The raviolini were very good. My only critique would be that the comination of the oiliness and a vinegary flavor (from the tomatoes perhaps? I couldn't put my finger on it.) was...too oily and vinegary. The ravioli themselves, however, were delightful and I WOULD recommend this dish, even as is. They also have a great wine list. We both had a delicious super Tuscan. Put this all together, and we would happily return if we lived in the area. We have already recommended it to a family member who is in Charleston regularly. read more

This is hands down one of my new favorite spots here in Charleston. I rarely choose Italian cuisine for dinner here because first off, nothing like Italian food from ITALY, right?! But also, NYC is THE scene for Italian food. As soon as I walked into this place I felt like I was back in New York! Loved the dim ambiance and open space of the restaurant. Our server was so attentive and friendly, and I appreciated that he started off by asking about food allergies. This goes such a long way and I wish ALL restaurants did this. This restaurant hit a lot of positive notes - subtle lighting, a boisterous kitchen with a wood fired oven, exceptional service with a comfortable old Charleston ambiance. The variety of the menu was decent - apps, salads, house made pastas, pizza and and a select number of entrees featuring chicken, pork chop, short rib, snapper, and steak. Morgan our server could not have been more efficient, friendly or knowledgeable. She gave us a great introduction to the menu and helped me decide on a wine as I was not familiar with many of the Italian varietals listed. Don't even hesitate about ordering the $9 focaccia as a starter. The bread forms a beautiful bottom and top crust that is down right addictive. The gently lemon flavored ricotta was a nice pairing but I wasn't getting the match up with the spiced apple butter spread. I've never really been fond of the stuff regardless what it was served on. We decided to order our entrees from the pasta selections. I went with Indaco's version of a carbonara with tagliatelle pasta and my husband ordered a bucatini with shrimp. Our server mentioned that my choice was one of the most popular dishes served and even though they rotate the menu every two weeks, this entree has stayed put due to its popularity. Maybe at some point this was a stand out dish, but not tonight. The fresh pasta just had way too much bite. When paired with the super salty pork tesa chunks, it was like chewing gum for dinner. Not pleasant. Great Italian is often about just several exceptional ingredients that when combined, create a dish with maximum flavor. Unfortunately, this self appointed super star dish delivered a big dud. The black pepper, Parmesan and chives, were not even detected. I've never been a fan of the runny broken egg phenomenon of recent years which topped everything including burgers...yawn. For a proper carbonara, raw yolks are essential. I just prefer the kitchen to do it, as I don't care to witness me tossing a raw yolk in my pasta, hoping the temperature is hot enough to cook the egg beyond a risk of salmonella. My husband's bucatini dish was not a feast for the eyes. The black squid ink infused pasta just made it look unappealing. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were happily consumed, but much of the pasta remained untouched. The birthday slice of tiramisu was huge! It was extremely light and creamy but didn't have much punch in the flavor department. Even the coffee notes were barely detected. We may have experienced an "off"night for the kitchen. Who knows. I would be willing to give this place another chance, though. read more

I've heard good things about Indaco for awhile and it's always difficult to get a reservation so I was expecting to love it and did! The drinks were very good. The margarita wasn't overpowered by sour mix like many are and the smoky mezcal drink was very unique and delicious. We started with the foccacia which I wish came sliced but that would be my only complaint. The bread was steamy and soft on the inside but the outside was slightly charred and crispy which I loved but made it difficult to cut. I recommend mixing the ricotta and apple dip. The combo of those and the parm on the bread makes for so many different flavors that all work well together. Our main entrees were amazing. There are a lot of vegetarian options on the menu and we had the cauliflower ragú which had more of an Alfredo sauce over mafaldine. It was a perfect dish. We are basic and also split the margarita pizza. (Great size for sharing) the crust of the pizza was probably the best I've had in Charleston. I lived in NJ so I've had lots of good pizza and it's hard to find a crust like this. The Zeppoles were one of the best part of the meal. You need to leave room for these! They're dusted with the perfect amount of sugar and the inside was so hot and almost a little gooey. They were so warm they were melting the chocolate in the cannoli dip and that just made it even yummier. Side note- they will bring a plate with parmesan cheese if you ask for extra. HATE when they grate it over your dish and you are embarrassed to keep asking for more or when they give you an itty bitty condiment cup of cheese. read more
