As if it isn't obvious, Imperial has been under new management since the fall. I was a longtime customer of the former owners who were wonderful! Based on my experience, and in my opinion, the new owner is rude, unprofessional, and dishonest. Despite promise dates that are exorbitantly long, they still fail to meet the extensions and offer no concessions to their customers. Steer clear of this place! read more

Great alterations! I've taken several pieces of men's clothing here. They hemmed a pair of suit pants right away for a wedding out of town.

I came here for an alteration that the owner (korean lady) was happy to do. When I came to pick it up, a different lady was there. I looked at the work and it was done sloppily, incorrectly, and incomplete. The lady agreed it needed to be re-done and even mentioned it would not be an additional charge which made me feel at ease. All of these encounters so far were positive and I thought nothing of them! People make mistakes and I was totally fine with having to come back. However, when I came to pick the re-altered item up, the Korean woman completely berated me saying she never wanted to do my alterations in the first place and that she would never alter my clothes again. Had she ever told or shown me she was unwilling to take my alterations for whatever reason, I would have gone elsewhere. Thankfully, the other woman who I'd originally picked up from was there to try and explain to her why the re-alteration was needed, but the Korean lady quickly shut her up. The lady threw up her hands and backed away. I felt so bad for her and told the Korean woman she shouldn't be so mean to her employees or customers and left. I have never felt so attacked and hope the employee does not have to face further negativeness and nastiness from the owner :( read more

Horrendous customer service. Heard them blaming a customer when it was clear the customer had a valid concern. I have never witnessed a company show such disrespect towards a customer. I will never go there again and I would highly encourage not to do business w such awful people. I have never seen such blatantly unprofessional behavior from a business. Fantastic neighborhood cleaners. I moved into the Gold Coast 5 years ago and tried several cleaners before stumbling across this gem. They are family owned and very friendly. The quality of their work is excellent. I have had several suit jackets altered and cleaned, and my wife has had several dresses altered as well. I have lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years and extremely particular how my clothes are cleaned and altered. The owners are so kind and the end result of the work is Excellent!!! They mark spots, clothes come back cleaned without the spots and no lint left whatsoever. I'm not sure I have ever left a Yelp review but this place absolutely warrants it. I dropped off my coat on Monday and was given a pickup time of Wednesday evening. I went back today (Thursday) to pick up my coat, to find out it had stains. I asked why this was so and was told they "didn't have enough time" and I had to leave it for 2 more days. I leave town tomorrow. I tried to show another attendant the stain, and the main guy at the door dragged the coat from me, hurting me with the hanger, and threatened to call the police because I was refusing to pay - which I never did. I simply said a stained coat does not warrant a full price. He wagged his fingers at me, threatened me, insulted me and was unspeakably rude. The manager came and offered me a 20% discount because of the stains, but that doesn't nearly make up for the insult, disrespect and terrible service I received here. read more

I recently got married mid September and ordered my dress a size or two too big. I didn't know a lot of tailors that worked on wedding dresses...AND that was affordable. Luckily by word of mouth, we heard that the tailor here was really good. I was not disappointed! It took 3 visits since they had to take in from the waist (2-3 inches), adjust the shoulders to bring up the waist line higher, take out an inner lining, AND had to shorten the length. They were VERY detailed, patient, and professional to make sure my dress fit perfectly. They also worked on my mom's dress as well. Both dresses were ready in time...and they did an EXCELLENT job. This small Mom & Pop neighborhood dry cleaners is handy and dependable. I love a place that knows you when you walk in, smile and chat personably and care for your clothes properly. I passed one of the owners on the street and she remembered me there also! Great customer service! I needed a couple of pairs of pants hemmed. Yay! They do alterations too! I I have now brought several things in for the tailor and everything else turned out great. The husband actually has a custom tailor storefront next door. The place is small and a tight fit. If you are tall that might be a bit of a problem for the two minutes you are dropping off and picking up. But don't let that stop you. Don't let it's small size fool you! They do excellent work. I've had dry cleaning done and it's always been done well. They let you know when it will be done too. If they can't get it done within a certain time frame they'll tell you. They set your expectations. I like that. They've sewn buttons on my shirts & hemmed things. It's always been great service! They always welcome me by first name, both owners. They are friendly and professional. Top-notch communication. If you come in for an alteration they'll give you honest feedback as to whether you need it or not. This is by far my favorite dry cleaner (and tailor) in Chicago! We've been going there for years now with our weekly drop offs. They're incredibly friendly and accommodating. They take a lot of care with all of our clothes and I trust them with some of our most delicate and valuable pieces. Experience that quickly turned sour. I never review anything but extreme experiences, so clearly this qualifies. Sara is a very nice woman. Don't get me wrong. But she is absolutely intolerant of anyone questioning her work. And like in any business, that is a dealbreaker. I had never asked to send anything back, ever. I never set a deadline on when I wanted something. However, if there's a stain when I get it back that I didn't notice when I brought it in, I won't blame the dry cleaner - of course they get the benefit of the doubt - but I'll bring it to their attention, so they know there's something wrong. She started calling me 'too picky,' which is funny considering I never made a fuss about it. We won't go into how some people may actually have nice clothes they give a crap about and would like to see them last and not get stained. Then a straw broke the camel's back. Long story short: I got a couple of drops of oil on my tie. I dabbed it with water immediately and took it in to Sara within a day. I asked if she could be particularly careful with this one. Went back a week later to pick it up, and one spot was gone, but the other was untouched. Thinking that perhaps they hadn't noticed it, I asked if they could try again. "We can do our best" "That's fine - it'll be nice if you could get it out, I won't hold you to it." And when I went in today, it had faded a little. I was happy with that. What I was unhappy with was the color in the entire part of the tie had bled away and faded very clearly. When the spot was noticeable from 12 inches away, this was obvious from several feet away. I argued with them about why didn't tell me this could happen - when I asked for a do-over, I assumed that it may not get much better but not that they'd make it unwearable. I didn't ask for the cost of the tie or anything. But on principle, I asked for the $3.95 I paid to get it cleaned - because I paid for a service which was not rendered. I didn't actually care about the four freaking dollars. She scoffed and offered 50% back because they took out one spot. I stared at her for a second, told her not to worry about it, and walked out. read more

For the past 6 years I've constantly rotated from dry cleaner to dry cleaner. It wasn't because they weren't good, they were, but they weren't great. Over the more recent years I've been more cautious and "audition" many dry cleaners with an article first. I've found my go to dry cleaners in Imperial Cleaners. Top notch! The attention to detail and the quality are outstanding. I had taken a merino wool sweater and dress shirt for a trial run. When I picked it up and brought it home I was simply impressed. The sweater felt soft and held it's shape for a few wears before it was ready for another dry cleaning, the dress shirt came back with a great press, inside collar clean, and held it's shape. A major pet peeve of mine is the length of the shirt where the buttons are, the inside fold typically gets pressed with no attention and gets misaligned and creased nasty. It isn't visible on the outside but as I button my clothes in the morning it does bother me, I'm super anal I know. Imperial not only maintained the existing crease but obliterated the previous dry cleaner's craptastic job in the first place. EXCELLENT! Finally a dry cleaner that cares about quality and workmanship. Since the audition I've taken a number of clothes to get dry cleaned at Imperial; great work and consistency keep me a customer. I have an expensive suit and was concerned the crease running down my dress pants would be pressed incorrectly and two creases would appear. This has happened at other places with my dress pants and the people there ignored my complaints and didn't even offer a refund. Those places should go belly up because they don't care about customers they care about turnover and quantity. At Imperial my suit came back perfect! Just like when I picked it up from Barneys. Lastly alterations. I brought 6 dress shirts and 2 jeans. Shirts needed sleeve shortening and jeans needed to be hemmed. Perfect perfect perfect!!! I trust Imperial with my clothes; dry cleaning and alterations results are fantastic. My Moncler down vest is next, it needs a good cleaning before I wear it again this fall. read more

I recently moved to Gold Coast and found two cleaners near my place. 1. John's Cleaners 2. Imperial Cleaners With that being said, I decided to go to John's Cleaners because it was closer. I had 1 tie, 2 shirts, 1 jacket, and 1 t-shirt. The guy works there said it would be around $26. I was okay with it until he gave me my "receipt." I wanted an itemized receipt. I asked to take back my clothes. He ripped the "receipt" in front of me and was just super rude. It was probably one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever encountered. So I decided to take it to Imperial Cleaners (2nd closest cleaners around). They were really professional and nice. AND it cost me around $17 for the same exact service. Brought in a pair of pants to be altered--they needed repair after the belt loop ripped. The belt loop was repaired and the pinstripes lined up! Then brought in 2 pairs of jeans to be hemmed--one with the "original" and one without...the original ones were perfect like they came from the store that way, and the others were the perfect length and perfectly straight too. Prices lower than the other cleaners I went to. I brought in drycleaning and she gave me 10% off the cleaning for the first visit! FYI, she said the shirts weren't included, just the drycleaning. What a fantastic family friendly place! I took my clothes here to have them cleaned and tailored and everything was done flawlessly and on time. I even stopped by the owner's custom clothing shop next door and bought 3 custom tailored shirts for a great price. With each shirt, I was able to select the color, texture, pattern, collar, and several other details. I even got my initial inscribed on the cuffs of the shirt. The store was very unique and also had the option to order customized pants, jackets, ties, and shoes. Imperial Cleaners is excellent! I have been using this Gold Coast cleaner for or over 10 years and would not go elsewhere. Their cleaning is excellent - they mark problem spots on my sweaters, slacks and jackets that then receive extra special attention. I have never been disappointed. Shirts come back beautifully pressed (we get them in a bag/box. Their alterations also are excellent - they have replaced difficult sweater zippers (diagonal), taken in dresses, and shortened slacks. Beautiful work. It was wonderful that they stayed open several days a week during the Pandemic so that I could pick up and drop off cleaning.
