I asked this lady in every way possible if I could get a price quote and her response each time was "just bring in". I know that there can sometimes be language barriers , I work as a wardrobe stylist in Los Angeles so I'm very used to that. I explained to her that my case was a little unique in that I needed same-day service. I needed buttons swapped out on a suit and waist alterations on a stretch fitted dress. Then she began to tell me how busy she was today and to just bring it in.... so, not only will I not be receiving a price quote but you are telling me to bring it in in hopes that you can get it done and also in hopes that your prices fit my budget?? This is not the way you handle business in a progressive city and area like Chicago. She should expect a certain caliber of customers who asked questions and expect answers. Thank you, Chicago yelpers, for leading me to a fantastic dry cleaner! I was in town for just a few days and needed a dress pressed in the worst way. I could have had it pressed in St. Louis, but it was pointless since the dress would get folded into my suitcase. So I pulled up the Yelp app on my iPhone and did a little research at the hotel. There were a few cleaners slightly closer to the Palomar, but Sterling came highly recommended. And rightfully so, because Eunis (or at least the gal who I think was Eunice) was great! She pressed my dress right then and there while I waited, which was perfect since I was on a time constraint. My only complaint is that Sterling only accepts cash if your order is less than $15. That meant I had to go across the hallway to the 7-11 and use the ATM. But I'd much rather use a dry cleaner that does a nice job and accepts cash vs. a crappy one that takes cards. And if you're a regular here, your orders are probably more than $15 anyway. Great, little gem in the city! If I ever need something cleaned or pressed while in the area, I'd gladly go back! read more

I bring all my blazers here and they are returned fitting perfectly. I've also had them hem my pants and sew on buttons and they always find a way to make things look great. I'm honestly speechless. I came to Sterling Cleaners to get the zipper on my coat replaced and have it dry cleaned. They did an excellent job with that...but they also sewed up the tattered inside of the jacket which I didn't ask them to do and they didn't charge me for. *sobbing* Ordered a beautiful white jumpsuit through BHLDN online, brought it here still wrapped in plastic from the online order for hemming, and when I went to pick it up it had brown splatters on the knee/leg. The owner accused me of lying when I called him out on the stain, but did agree to try to get the stain out "no guarantee".. comforting. Went back in the next day to pick it up and the stain was still there... the owner, still adamant that there's no way they are responsible for the stain, motioned to the seamstress who is sewing and sipping a coffee. Unreal. He also expected me to pay full price for the alterations in spite of ruining the entire piece, and accused me of having no money when I refused. Legit threatened to call the cops .. please, I dare you... So I paid half price for alterations on a now unwearable white silk jumpsuit and away I go. Avoid at all costs. read more

DO NOT HAVE ALTERATIONS DONE HERE!! I brought my bridesmaid dress to Eunice, the owner, to have altered. When I went to pick it up, there was a flower on the dress that wasn't there before. She said she thought I'd like to stand out a little since the dress was so plain. Of all the things a bridesmaid is supposed to do, stand out is absolutely not one of them. No flowers! That's when she told me that actually she cut a hole in my dress and it was covering it!! Accidents happen, but lying and trying to cover it up is absurdly unacceptable and unprofessional. They didn't really do anything overly impressive dry cleaning wise for me. I had a few dirty shirts and they took care of biz as you would expect your cleaners to do. If they f***ed anything up I'd probably have a whole lot more of a reason to leave a review, but their friendly service really inspired my to leave some feedback. The employees and owner are Ned Flanders nice, but without the obnoxious. They know my name after only 2 visits, they stayed open an extra couple of minutes for a pick up, and there's never been anything but a smile every persons face. I'd go back to them just based on location to my place, but the friendliness is definitely a peasant perk to an annoying errand that I hate to do. read more

She knows all of her clients by name, clothing is always ready when she says it will be, prices are great, and if you lose a button, it's replaced. I have a dry cleaners inside my condo building so I don't use Sterling Cleaners for dry cleaning too often. But when I have alterations that need to be done, Sterling Cleaners (Eunice) is my go-to. Hand down. Eight years ago I spent a pretty penny to purchase a Hugo Boss tux. I haven't needed to wear it much in recent years but I put it on last month ahead of a formal wedding I was officiating, and I was swimming in it! Obvs fashions have changed quite a bit since its purchase and it was basically unwearable. I took the tux to Eunice to have it re-fitted, which is even trickier for a tux than a suit bc of where the seams are placed. While I spent a good amount of money having it fully altered and re-fit, the amount was WAY less than I would've spent buying a new one. And they did a bang up job... it fit perfectly, I got a ton of compliments on it, and I basically have a brand new tux in my closet again. Sterling can be a little pricey, but for alterations I think knowing what you're going to get for the end-result is pretty important... and many other places I've used have been a total gamble. Sterling quotes pretty accurately upfront, so really there's not much mystery there with the price. I'll continue taking my clothes here for a truly expert job to have them re-fit! Perhaps the greatest dry cleaner ever. To echo the other reviews, Eunis, the owner, is great. She is very pleasant and always greets you by your name. She goes the extra mile and then some to ensure that your clothes are appropriately taken care of and cleaned properly. If something does not come out right (e.g., difficult to get out stain) she will always let you know and promptly re-clean. If buttons are randomly missing off of my dress pants she will always find them and replace them (without me noticing/asking). Everything is always ready on time and is neatly prepared. Also, the prices seem pretty reasonable. I take a ton of stuff here and am always surprised with the lower than expected total. read more

Well let me say that this is the BEST dry cleaning/alteration place I have EVER BEEN TO! Eunis is so so nice..she found 2 broken buttons on my suit jacket sleeve and she replaced them for free because she appreciated how far I walked to bring my clothes to her....I mean that is SO refreshing in today's world. First of all, let me mention that Eunis is very accommodating and knows what she is doing. A couple of months ago, I had procrastinated getting a dress hemmed and altered for a wedding I had to attend in Michigan and after googling alteration shops, I came across Sterling Cleaners. It was very convenient as it's one block away from my office. I had no idea that it was by appointment only (Eunis makes sure she gives close attention to every client) but when I went in and told her my story, she made the exception. Prices are not bad at all for a downtown location, and they can even have things ready the next day. They have convenient hours too, open till 7pm. They also do excellent alterations. I never thought I'd be excited about a dry cleaner. I've been going to Eunis for a few months now for alterations, and she does a fantastic job. Fit is really important to her, and she has an excellent eye for how an article of clothing should fit the body. She also knows the proper length for women's dress pants, which is rare. I end up with floods if I take my pants anywhere else. I'm short, but I'm not that short. Since I was so pleased with her alterations, I recently brought some work clothes to Eunis for cleaning. One item, a beige pencil skirt from Ann Taylor, I've had for years and was close to retiring. There were some faint marks on it - almost like oil stains - that I thought were there for good. Nope. When I picked it up from Eunis, the skirt looked brand new. Now, some stains are impossible, even for the best. Don't expect miracles if you perform surgery in your favorite white shirt and Eunis can't help. Be realistic, and maybe wear an apron next time. Otherwise, you can be confident your clothes are in expert hands! Also, she remembers my name and notices when I've lost a few pounds. How cool is that?? read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CLOTHES HERE TO BE DRY CLEANED. THE CHEMICALS THEY USE WILL DESTROY YOUR CLOTHING! I brought a $1400 custom suit (less than one year old) to Sterling Cleaners to be dry cleaned. After picking up my suit, I noticed that the elbows were ripped on both arms. I took the suit to my custom tailor and he commented that he's never seen anything like the damage that Sterling Cleaners dry cleaning chemicals did to the suit. The dry cleaning absolutely ruined the expensive fabric, making it shimmery and wearing out the materials, which led to the ripped elbows. I went to Sterling Cleaners and brought this to their attention, and I was basically laughed out of the store. read more

I've owed Sterling Cleaners a review for over a year. Sorry Eunis! As far as the dry cleaning goes, Sterling is good. It's definitely a little more expensive than other cleaners, but given the neighborhood the prices shouldn't be shocking. My clothes have always been done within the requested time frame, and they are returned clean and smelling basically neutral (which is important, as I had to stop using my last cleaner because everything came back smelling as if it had been sitting in a musty home for a week). The tailoring - this is where I'm continually impressed. Last year I had a suit altered by Eunis. She is SO nice, and she really loves her craft. I was a bit nervous as she buzzed around me, pinning my pants here and there (You're doing WHAT to the butt? You're taking them in HOW much?) and enthusiastically explaining how they would look. She then worked on the jacket, and was very understanding when I asked that we not take the alterations quite as far as she wanted. I really appreciated that someone who has been doing this for a while, and who has a wealth of expertise, listened to my feedback and didn't push me into accepting alterations that I wasn't comfortable with. She was a bit more insistent with the alterations in the pants, but I believe that's because Eunis wants everyone to look and feel their best in their clothes. The clothes were altered beautifully! Everything fit so well, I couldn't believe I was ever skeptical of Sterling's abilities. At the beginning of this week I found myself in a pinch - tried on that very same suit on Sunday for an event on Monday, and found that I desperately needed the pants let back out. I brought them in on Monday morning and told Eunis it was a pants emergency - could they let the pants out that day? Lo and behold, they were ready to go at 4pm and they fit GREAT! It did cost $25, which I assume is a little pricey for such a simple alteration, but I didn't mind for the trustworthy same-day service. Thank you Sterling! For the most part, a dry cleaner is a dry cleaner - but as long as I'm in Chicago, I'll never feel the need to look for another tailor. read more

Pretty hit or miss. Quick summary - they are reasonably priced, friendly, but sometimes mess up. The Good - quick turnaround when you need it, very friendly and did a good job on alterations. Dry cleaning prices are pretty reasonable too. The Bad - they messed up pressing a few shirts (crazy pressed-in wrinkles) and once gave me two items that were not mine. Top notch service. Eunis checks and double checks everything to make sure it is just right before getting your items back to you. Definitely above and beyond my expectations! And talk about full service...My favorite leather boots needed new zippers and the heels were pretty bad. There was a little sign that says ask about shoe repair (or something along this line) so I did! I was nervous about being without my prized boots for about a week but trusted Eunis since she has been handling all of my husband and I's dry cleaning for at least 6 months, I thought why not! I used to use Sterling cleaners but after a year or so I noticed the service went downhill. Eunis would call me with excuses about why my items were late or not cleaned properly so I have started to go elsewhere. When Eunis wasn't working though the other staff didn't seem to have any interest in helping customers in any shape or form. I knocked on their door on one occassion 1 minute after their closing time. Despite there being 3 people in the store I was told that they were closed and to come back tomorrow for my blouse that I needed for the next morning. Not worth the hassle and when I told Eunis about the incident above she attempted to deny that this incident ever took place. I won't go back again. read more

I had a really bad experience with Greener Cleaners, and I was nervous about leaving my delicate items in the hands of a stranger. This place goes above and beyond. Eunis runs the joint and she is just incredible. First of all, she remembers my name every single time, and not only that, she actually recognizes my voice when I call. Who does that?! The quality of their work is impecible, Eunis checks buttons, stains, etc. with every item that I bring in, and if she is not satisfied she re-cleans items without additional charge. I have gotten several items altered here. Pants hemmed, dresses altered, holes fixed, all of which have come out perfectly. Eunis is not only skilled, but she has a great eye for what looks good. Sterling Cleaners is timely, polite, and all around amazing. If you have clothes that you treasure, you can trust them. read more

RUN- Don't walk-- FAR AWAY -- don't go here! Based on previous Yelp ratings which were positive, I took a pair of flowy silk crepe Armani pants here to be cleaned. There was a grease spot on the front which I pointed out. After I got home from picking up the pants, I found that they had pressed creases into the delicate fabric which had never been creased, and in the process, pressed the grease spot into the fabric (which obviously hadn't been removed.) When I went back to complain, I was told the owner Unis does not work on Saturday and the clerk refused to help. The snotty clerk then asked me "Do you work on Saturdays?" As if she needed to add insult to injury. Why is my work schedule any of her business when they just ruined my pants???!! I travel during the week and cannot take time off just to talk to Unis. The clerk also informed me that it was my responsibility to tell them not to crease my pants. I just wanted them back in the same style that I dropped them off-- uncreased. Why do I have to supervise their employees? If I could give a negative star rating I would. Do not waste your time with a business that has poor service all the way around. read more

The owner is a nice lady but they've lost my sweater once. And about a month ago, they spilled some kind of chemical on my nice pants and BLAMED on me!!! I heard about this place from a friend of mine who always seem to have excellent dry cleaning, exp( neat pressed shirts, pants, jackets,). So I tried it out and now I understand why he always goes there. Eunis, (owner) is always friendly and willing to go out of her way to make sure my clothes look perfect. Everytime I go there I am greeted with a friendly smile and always more than satisfied with my dry cleaning. I would recommend this place to anyone around the downtown area. My girlfriend brought something in to get hemmed on Monday, it was supposed to be ready Friday at 5pm because she was going out of town Saturday. She went to pick them up at 6pm and the woman at the counter couldn't find them. The pants never got hemmed! The owner called and said she forgot to get them hemmed AND forgot to call my girlfriend to let her know. Then the owner had to call around to even figure out where the pants were. She finally tracked them down...they were still in the shop, she never even sent them off to be hemmed. This wouldn't be so terrible...if it was the first time. Previously, my girlfriend went in to get some jeans patched and it took two weeks to get done because the owner forgot to do it, then it was done so shoddily that she wouldn't even let my girlfriend take them. I don't care how convenient this cleaner is, we're done with them. read more

I came to this place because of some of the 5-star reviews below; it sounded sensible and more believable. I wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any big mistakes on altering my clothes -- even though it was something simple like replacing zippers -- since one of my clothes was really old and precious. I came in with two skirts for replacing zippers. The cashier was a nice girl, but soon I was mainly dealing with the owner lady, who later gave me the quote: it'll be 20 dollars. She said they were in a crunch with a ton of business suit alterations, and that is why it will take them a week. Which was fine, I wasn't in a hurry, and I thought it's better than hurrying them to do a half-ass job. And she made sure to mention that I shouldn't come in to pick them up until I get a call from them. And that If I came in without the call, I'd be wasting my time. A week and a day went by, and she left me a voice message that they need another week because they're now in a crunch with tons of bridal gowns. I went and picked them up a week later, and the bill was actually 50 dollars. 25 dollars for each skirt for damn zipper replacements! The owner lady wasn't there, and I felt bad to grill that cashier girl, so I just paid and came home with my skirts, intending to call the next day to ask about why it costed so much. And, when I tried them on back home, I realized one of them was done so shoddily: the zipper wouldn't zip all the way, and slowly unzip by itself if it felt any tension. So I went back to talk to them about it, and she told me she'd put a hook at the end and it'd be ready the next day. This is almost comical; when I went the next day (I even came in later in the day around 6.30pm, so I gave them as much time as possible) it wasn't done, AGAIN! She said something about being busy with something. I don't know. She promised it'll be done soon. I just walked out and came back some more days later. They did put a hook at the end and my skirt is now functioning again, but it sure did take a lot of my time and money. I don't care how skillful they are about advanced alterations, I don't want to deal with unreliable businesses. This place is horribly under-staffed, and doesn't respect deadlines, on top of being so over priced. No matter what other people say about this place, there must be somewhere better than this. read more
