Carmen, you are the BEST!!! I had to purchase something for an event on Thursday, March 13, 2025, for an event scheduled on Friday, March 14, 2025. The pants I purchased were the last pair in my size, but the clasp where you fasten them was hanging loose--it wasn't a regular button. I contacted a few businesses that were still open to ask if they could fix it in time for my event. I called 17's Cleaners and spoke to Carmen, who mentioned they were about to close in 20 minutes. Realizing the location was only two blocks away, I rushed over. I showed Carmen the item in my garment bag, and without hesitation, she grabbed some thread and secured both sides of the fastener while the pants were still in the bag. Afterward, I asked how much I owed her, and to my surprise, she didn't charge me, probably because it didn't require much work. Still, I insisted on paying something. I absolutely had to leave a review, because people often share their experiences when things go wrong, but I had a GREAT experience! Been coming here for five years due to its convenient location. Today was my final visit. Lady who works there is always on her cell phone with personal calls when I come in. She likes to finish her conversation before getting up to help her customers. I am used to it but today was a longer wait then usual which I was frustrated by. I bought a designer bag that had some silly looking text on the outer strap. I took it in to see if they could reverse the strap so that it'd look less obnoxious. The lady at the counter took it in and said she would show it to the tailor and see if he could do anything about it. Later that day, I get a call that he could do it for $40. Seemed a bit steep of a price given than only a small part of the seam would have to be removed and then resewn, but I happily agreed to pay it. I go into the store the next day, pay my $40 and leave. On my way out, I notice a splotch of glue on the strap. I go back inside and show it to the lady working the counter. She says it's just glue and proceeds to rub at it. She takes some hand sanitizer and scrubs on it, then adds some steam and scrubs on it... I'm not quite sure what she's doing but I trust her because these are professional cleaners after all. She comes back to me with it, but now the spot where the glue was is all destroyed. The fabric has frayed and the strap is damaged. She continues to scrub at it, but I am convinced it's only making it worse. I show it to her the fraying, and she says "Well what do you want me to do, I was trying to get the glue out?". I respond that it's their fault that there is glue on the fabric in the first place. She just stares at me for 5-10 seconds. No joke, no words, she's just staring at me. In my mind, I'm thinking it would only be reasonable that she give me a refund for the service that they botched. Not only did I just pay $40 for this service, but now the designer piece itself is destroyed. But she's just staring at me. I promptly say thank you, turn around, and leave. She slams something on the table in exasperation. My boyfriend has frequented this place for this dry cleaning for years. We will never be going back. No accountability, and terrible customer service with an attitude. read more

I adore this place and everyone in there. I have to admit it has been few and far between that I have actually used the dry cleaning services. I live on the East side, so that doesn't make this a convenient spot for my dry clean needs, even though they have done a good job in the past. BUT 17s is the only place I use for tailoring. And, I tend to get a lot tailored. The lovely woman who does the tailoring is easy to work with and is always offering creative solutions. She can work wonders with clothes, whether it's a simple hem or a complicated ill-fitting dress from a catalog purchase (see me), she can fix it. The result is consistently better than you would have imagined. I have been in desperate time crunches, and she has delivered on more than one occasion. I won' t go anywhere else. read more

[Note: I mistakenly posted this to 1133 Cleaners because I got the numbers mixed up, so here it is in the right place!] I'm a little surprised that almost no one has reviewed this yet since my boyfriend lives close by and whenever we walk past, there's almost always a customer inside. Anyway, we're regulars here since my boyfriend now has to wear business clothes that can only be dry cleaned. Because he flies out and back every week we can only get his clothes done on Saturday - but they are very good about same day turnaround and they always recognize us and smile since we go back every week. Although my boyfriend is the primary customer, I have actually brought in a handmade blouse that unfortunately had some unknown stain on the back from our trip to Europe. They managed to get it out and returned the blouse in perfect condition and as white as it was before. So although you can find cheaper places for your dry cleaning, we go back here because the service is great. read more

I can be fairly picky when it comes to cleaners. I've had some that I despise and some that I liked a lot in the myriad of places I've lived. 17's is one of the best I've encountered so far. The staff is friendly, courteous, polite and knowledgeable. They look happy to be there, happy to help anyone who comes in. And most impressively aren't the kind who "punch out early." They avoid one of my pet peeves from stores whose hours can be somewhat challenging to get to during the work week; if the sign says open till 6pm they don't close the door a moment earlier. The prices are very reasonable, I had about 14 shirts laundred and pressed, as well as a suit dry cleaned and pressed for about 36 dollars. The most important part, the results. I can be fairly picky when it comes to my shirts being pressed. But I will never apologize for it; if I'm going to pay you to do it, instead of doing it myself, I expect it to be done right. Collars should be properly ironed, and not given new 'pivots', if a button is missing and to be replaced, use the extra buttons that are still attached to the shirt instead of something that doesn't match.. and if you do fix it with something else let me know. Lastly they should be hung properly on a hanger. 17's nailed every single one of these on the dot. I'm already a repeat customer so with 5-7 other cleaners equally walkable you have to do a good job. By far, the best place to have your expensive duds tailored, pressed and dry cleaned. Highly competitive rates, fast turnaround time, and did I mention that they're REALLY friendly? The owners of this place (brother and sister) have great associates managing this place which has a great vintage architectural detail with the interior. I can bring them ill-fitting garments that are either too big or droopy and they will work their magic like Cinderella's godmother. Where are the mice. I want my Prince Charming too. I'm begging you... PLEASE DON'T GO HERE. They had pretty good reviews so I figured I would go from my Streeterville apartment here to get the stain out. BAD DECISION. Everything was fine until pickup time. They said pick it up Thursday anytime after 5. I waited until Friday around noon to pick it up. My dress was nowhere to be found. I thought that was strange. Then I continued to wait because she said another round of laundered clothing was about to be brought in. I waited and still nothing.. I was pretty annoyed because it took me about 20 minutes on the bus and I walked a half a mile for nothing. & of course I was going out of town and needed the dress. The employee could tell I was getting frustrated and she wasn't offering any form of compensation for this inconvenience. Then she started raising her voice at me saying "well what do you expect me to do?!?!" You'd think she'd be the one with the answer... So I said I wanted it delivered to my apartment since I was going out of town. She said she would have it to me by 4. So 4 rolls around and nothing. She then said it would be there by 5 - delivery guy was stuck in traffic. 5 rolls around and STILL NOTHING!!! It gets worse.. I finally show up and they thankfully have my dress. After taking it home and looking at it there are NEW STAINS that weren't there prior to me dropping it off with them. This is an expensive dress and needless to say this was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. If I were you I wouldn't waste my time going here. Rude and inconsiderate. Wouldn't tell my worst enemy to go here. read more

I found a BCBG dress at Bloomingdales that I absolutely LOVED. Unfortunately it would be close to $300 after taxes so I had to pass. Then I went to Nordstrom Rack a few days later and found the same dress for only $80!!!! I new it was fate. I HAD to have it, but it was WAY to big. The lady in the dressing room brought over their "expert" tailor to see if it could be altered to fit me. He walked up to me shaking his head, taking not even a half second to say "No way, it will not look right on you. Take it off. You should not by it." I was crushed. I walked around the store holding it, and decided just to get it, take it to 17 Cleaners, and see what they said. They told me "no problem" even though they agreed it was a hard task. They pinned me up, and I crossed my fingers. A week later I picked up my dress (that I planned to wear to my friend's rehearsal dinner in New Orleans, I was leaving for that next morning) and held my breath. It fit perfectly!!!! They did an amazing job! I loved how I looked in it. They worked their magic when the other tailor (who should have been convincing me to buy a dress from his store) refused to! I was sent here because Macy's at Watertower no longer does tailoring. I had 2 suits that needed the jackets taken in and the pants out & hemmed. I also had 3 pairs of pants that needed out and hemmed. I don't know if it's just me but I think that $230 is a bit much for that work. They are very sloppy. They just "eye-ball" you, they don't bother to pin you up, so sizing is inevitably wrong. Not just that, but work I paid for was not done when I went to pick the stuff up. I tried everything on, as one should, and it was "where are the hems I paid for? These sleeves aren't right, why cant I zip these pants up, who sewed the pockets closed. What were you people thinking!!!" It took three weeks and it wasn't done right? They fall all over themselves with promises, we'll fix it, it's ok, don't worry... I HAD TO GO BACK THREE TIMES before they got it right. 4 trips and $230 for crappy work. The whole mess took five weeks to complete. I could have had a suite MADE in less time. Perhaps minor tailoring is fine, and some on here have said so, but for quality tailoring, look elsewhere if you want it done RIGHT and ON TIME. (I have posted this at 17 and Pine Cleaners, they own both. They started my work at 17 and shipped it to Pine, where I had to have it re-done twice. Both locations are equally bad) read more

I used to come here when I lived in the area because I had heard the prices were reasonable and, let's face it...that's a hard quality to come by in the Gold Coast. I have had dry cleaning, hemming, and a couple zipper/dress strap repairs done and all of the services they provided me were timely, performed well, and reasonably priced. Additionally, when they fixed the straps on my dress, they quoted me almost twice what they actually ended up charging me, which was a nice surprise. We just moved to the area from streeterville and wanted to find a place for dry cleaning. We looked at the reviews thinking it was a decent place but we were wrong! Brought in a few dress shirts of my bf from nordy's and my BCBG white sweater for dry cleaning. My bf picked them up and told me my sweater wasn't ready so I went in a couple days later and they specifically wrote not ready but when I went in, the lady told me they couldn't find it. REALLY?!?!?! and then they both were asking me what color, brand, shape, etc. I can't believe it! The same day they called me back saying they found it. Not only that but one of my bf's dress shirt somehow got BLEACHED around the color. They DENIED the sweater being lost and dress shirt bleached. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BRING IN YOUR CLOTHES IF YOU VALUE YOU THEM. read more

I took a dress here for an alteration and they did a terrible job. The hem was all crooked. To me it seemed like a pretty simple job. My $400 Diane Von Furstenberg dress was ruined and i threw it in the trash. I can't speak to them as a dry cleaner, but I wouldn't have anything of value altered here again. read more

I have been taking my shirts here for about 7 years. I pay $1.75 for laundered shirts and $4.75 for dry cleaning!!! I have been happy with their service but I feel like their dry cleaning is way too expensive when there are places around the area that charge much less. What really bothers me is that they force me to send some of my shirts to dry cleaning due to them having special buttons and such...I don't care...a button is not worth $3 each wash!!! We were in town for a wedding, in the middle of a road trip, and dropped off a bag of clothes for wash and fold the day before we were leaving. Weren't silly enough to give them any of our "nice" clothes; nonetheless, all of our clothes were returned to us more wrinkly than anything I've ever seen. We stopped in on our way out of town to complain with show and tell, but their excuse was that they send it out and don't have control over it. $22 for one loosely filled grocery bag worth of clothes. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! This place is awful for tailoring. I took a few men's dress pants in for tailoring to have them loosened in the waist. The tailor was working when I took them in and I gave her specific instructions on the what was to be done. I went to pick them up a week later and she had loosened the waist but she messed up most of my pants. On the outside of the pants, you could see where her stitching was not straight and where the seam from one side did not evenly line up to the seam from the other side. I showed it to her and held up a ruler to show her how uneven her work was and she said she would do it over but probably couldn't fix it. She literally stood there and stated, "I probably can't fix it." The tailor was extremely friendly and welcoming when I dropped off my pants and then 180ed into a very rude and snarky person when I pointed out the issues. I have had pants tailored many times (as any guy knows, you have to when you buy dress slacks), and this was by far the worst tailoring experience I have ever had. The worst. Save yourself the money and time and pick one of the many other tailoring places in the area. read more

Luckily, by accident, I found her at her own establishment now, at a big mall on Foster just west of Harlem. I first came to 17's Cleaners needing a last minute alteration/hemming on a bridesmaid's dress for a wedding that was in 4 days....needless to say I was freaking out. However, as soon as I walked in and explained my situation to them they put me at ease. They were extremely friendly & helpful. When I had my first fitting and dropped off the dress they quoted me a price (which was reasonable) and then a day later the woman called me explaining that she needed to charge me a little bit more then she had quoted me because of all of the layers of the dress. I really appreciated the phone call & them not waiting until I came to pick up the dress to tell me. That just shows their courtesy & good service. This review is for Dry Cleaning only. I have been using 17's for dry cleaning for 2 years now - and never had any issues with them. They always get all the stains out of all my clothes (which are sometimes pretty brutal), they always have my clothes ready when I come back for them (although I always show up at least a day after they say it will be ready), and (most importantly) they have never ruined any clothes of mine. However, I have never used them for laundering or tailoring, and never needed anything the next day - so I cannot vouch for any of these services. I will continue to go back here as long as I live in this neighborhood. read more
