After a brisk walk through the city, my girlfriend and I were craving a good burger. On vacation and relying solely on Yelp for guidance we were not disappointed when it led us to Illegal. Being an onion ring aficionado I was intrigued to see "onion petals" on the menu. I ordered them hoping they came with a sauce and once again I was not disappointed, tangy creamy goodness for my dipping pleasure. I inhaled the petals and kept getting yelled at for eating them too fast. Fries were thin and crispy so I stole whatever I could from my girlfriend. Came here today with my husband and must say we enjoyed this place way more than we had anticipated. The food was great (loved it!!) , but what really made this a memorable stop on our trip to Denver was the personnel. The young man helping us was such a gem. He was funny and made us feel like a long time friend. When we told him it was our first time there, he walked us through the menu and made sure we got exactly what we were craving. Do not order this delivery or through GrubHub. It took an hour and a half to finally arrive and then the delivery guy showed up on a bike and it was snowing, the food was trash and cold. Needed a bitd before we were about to go home, went down the fampus Larimer Street and came upon this place. Had a dark eating area with a weird layout, we prdered and sat down. Metal chairs and tables, the place seemed clean and well kept. With the food coming out, the burgers were.... good! However the fries were the best part. Got the truffle fries and they were amazing. The vegan option was clearly labeled on the menu, a decent black bean burger prepared with lots of veggie toppings like avocados and sprouts... Stopped in for a quick bite. When I walked in the door I was hit with the smell of mildew. The old building could be the reason for this. I ordered the build your own burger, illegal fries and a soda. The burger was cooked perfectly. A little messy, but that's to be expected. Fries were awesome... best part of the meal.
