Food is good but this place is a little overpriced. Don't get sparkling water here, unless you want to spend $10 for one bottle of S.Pellegrino. Also there was an included $12 gratitude fee that was not optional.

(Last visited December 6, 2022.) Vacationing in Hawaii for a couple of weeks so we're just exploring downtown Waikiki for a little bit, but it's time to eat! So we pulled out our trusty Yelp app to see what's around! We landed on Il Tappo since we like pizza! Let's see how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: So the entrance to this place is like, through a hotel or something like that. The details are a little hazy, but what I DO REMEMBER is the beautiful fountain right out front and the market looking theme that was actually one of the bars! It was so cool and elegant. Once sat upstairs the views out into the city were beautiful. The restaurant wasn't too loud and felt quite intimate, like a great place for a date. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but we had no problems whatsoever. I do remember the bartender being super friendly and approachable when we first walked in though. Food: We kept dinner light this evening and tried their Isalata Di Pollo which is a salad containing rucola, cherry tomatoes, olives, roasted chicken & shaved Parmigiano Reggiano. It was crisp, fresh, simple and had an excellent mix of ingredients. Not too over the top at all. We also went for the Margherita Pizza which contains tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella & pesto. Delightfully simple. The pesto was a gentle drizzle as to not overshadow the rich flavors of the sauce and cheese. The crust was light and fluffy with a good crunch around the edges. Value: Our salad was $24.00 and pizza was $23.00. It's Hawaii, it's downtown, it is what it is. Lol. Bring your wallet, you're on vacation right? Unless you live here... then you probably are a baller anyway. I really enjoyed this spot. It was chill, felt tucked away while being in a downtown city. Check it out if you're in the area.

Chicken Pesto Pasta

This restaurant was conveniently located at the place we stayed during our trip, so we decided to give it a try one evening. We were seated by the window overlooking the street, offering a lovely view of the nearby restaurants, shops, and people passing by. For drinks, I ordered a dirty martini, but the waitress--who was younger--was unfamiliar with it. She checked with the bartender, who prepared it, but unfortunately, it wasn't very good. We also ordered a Moscow mule, which was fine. Our meal included the prosciutto pizza and chicken pesto pasta. While the pizza was tasty, it could have used more prosciutto (just one slice per slice of pizza). The chicken pesto pasta lacked a proper sauce, feeling more like pesto-seasoned chicken and noodles rather than a cohesive dish. Overall, it was a decent experience. While the flavors didn't wow me, I'd consider returning to try other menu items

^This is on a saturday. Easily makes it the place to go.

Wow, what a hidden gem. Amazing authentic Italian. Owner was super involved and ensuring everyone was enjoying their meal. Very friendly, interesting staff. The check came out so cheap we thought they made a mistake. Ambiance was perfect. No obnoxious music. Delicious food. Why waste your time at some corporate BS nearby? My wife and I've lived here five years and we wish we had found it sooner. Whether you are a tourist or a local, there's really no excuse to not check this place out

I just wanted somewhere to unwind and chill. Il Tappo has a wonderful menu (Italian food) . Located on the second level (inside a hotel) ...the structure of the restaurant is awesome (indoor and outdoor seating). Overlooking Waikīkī. I sat indoors and ordered an Aperol spritz and charcuterie board ...perfect for unwinding. Service was good and food quality was excellent. Il Tappo has a happy hour , I dined during regular dining hours . I highly recommend Il Tappo and will definitely return when I'm back in Honolulu.

This is a lovely find! We sat right by the window, in a covered outdoor room. There was a deal to get a free Margherita pizza if you buy a bottle. Great deal! They even suggested a good bottle for us to buy. The special of the night was a lasagna. We enjoyed all the food and the ambiance was lovely. Will be back!

It felt a little cramped, and you could hear the neighboring parties conversations quite clearly. After a while though, getting into our own conversation, it didn't bother me. Our hostess, I wish o remembered her name, was fantastic! Petite young lady with blonde hair and she wore glasses. She checked in with us as soon as the last member of our party arrived, and gave us the appropriate amount of time to look through the menu. She even came by to let us know she was going on a break and pointed out who was going to temporarily take care of us. I ordered their version of a high-ball and it was delicious! My friend had an oat milk latte that he drank in no time! My other friend had another coffee drink that she also enjoyed. Their coffee drinks are really delicious. For pupus we ordered their fries topped with poke and their original açaí bowl. The poke was fresh, and the fires cooked perfectly! It was sooo good! Island Vintage is also known for their açaí bowls, and they did not disappoint. So refreshing, and not too sweet. Ours came in a huge cappuccino cup and we split it amongst 3 people. We all had a tiny cup. Overall, a great experience!!! Friendly staff, and delicious foods and drink. Love this place! Oh, and right next door they have their coffee bar! Just as fantastic!

We started with cocktails, and I really enjoyed my Nueva España. For pinchos, we ordered the Empanada, Boquerones & Guindilla, and Croquetas de Jamón. The Empanada was our favorite dish of the night. The Boquerones & Guindilla were tasty, but the Croquetas were bland, even with the sauce. Next, we had the Seafood Paella. In hindsight, we probably shouldn't have mixed all of the aioli into the paella because it made the dish feel quite heavy. The rice was also firmer than I prefer, although the seafood was fresh and delicious. For our mains, we ordered the Lamb Chops and the Amadai. The lamb chops were quite lean and didn't particularly stand out. The Amadai had an interesting texture, but it was too salty for my taste. The clams served with the fish also didn't appeal to us, so we left them untouched. The restaurant surprised us with a complimentary dessert for the birthday celebration, which was a very nice gesture and much appreciated. Overall, it was a decent dining experience with excellent service and a beautiful atmosphere, but the food didn't quite live up to our expectations.

Ultra Violet had a pretty presentation, with a glowing coaster attached to the bottom of the glass. It was overall a very sweet drink, but the alcohol content wasn't that noticeable to be honest. My friend also said the Hana Hou! was very sweet and lacking in noticeable alcohol content as well. We also ordered the Ube Panna Cotta for dessert, and I loved it. The lime cream on top actually adds a very nice acidic contrast to the milky creaminess of the ube panna cotta. Lastly, I wanted to give a shoutout to our server, Jerrod. For our first time we decided to just walk-in and they had a 20-minute wait, which was not too bad compared to other dinner spots. However, I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time through Open Table. For dinner we decided to go with the mushroom cheese risotto, truffle alfredo fettuccine and arugula salad. For my little one we went with their margherita pizza. Everything was outstanding! Probably the best risotto I've ever had! It was packed with flavor and so good and comforting. The truffle alfredo was perfection, and the taste of the truffle was on point. My little picky eater almost finished the whole pizza, which I guess was a good sign. We loved it so much we decided to come back the following week. For the second time I didn't notice I had made reservations during their happy hour. Please note they have a happy hour food menu with heavily discounted food items which I thought was amazing. During this time we also tried the curry meatball and the prosciutto pizza. As always, everything was absolutely delicious! I know people don't usually go to Hawaii to eat Italian food, but definitely give this spot a chance during your visit!

The most interesting part was that an older couple sat next to us, similar situation. The gentleman asked for a glass of wine, and his wife asked for a non-alcoholic beverage. Though a different bartender came back with a sparkler option for her. Needless to say, I felt pushed aside and I don't believe I'll be back to this location any time soon. We stopped in during their happy hour from 3-5 PM, and it immediately stood out as an ideal after-work pau hana or easy date-night spot. The space is relaxed and inviting, with a calm, tucked-away feel that makes you forget you're inside a hotel. The happy hour menu is impressively priced, with starters beginning at just $6, yet everything feels thoughtfully prepared and elevated. Highlights included the toasted bread with sun-dried tomato pistou -- warm, crisp toast paired with a deeply savory, herbaceous spread that's simple but incredibly satisfying. The mini poke bowl was fresh and well-balanced, showcasing clean flavors and quality fish without being overly heavy. The fish tacos delivered exactly what you want: crispy island fish, bright flavors, and a great balance of texture. We also tried the fish and chips, featuring lightly fried island fish, hot fries, and a creamy house remoulade that tied the dish together beautifully. The standout for us was the empanadas -- flaky, crisp pastry filled with tender braised beef and potato, finished with a bold aji rojo sauce that added just the right amount of depth and gentle heat.
