Great place for date night. Super cozy and quiet. The people were really friendly and I loved the cheese wheel and eggplant they give you with bread. My date and I both opted for a pasta dish- the veal parm and clam linguine. They were both delicious with more than ample portions that make for great leftovers. The calamari was ok it tasted fresh but lacked flavor and I thought it was more expensive while the portion size wasn't any bigger. Overall I enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the people working here so recommend anyone to try it out. read more

Forgot to add a review on this. Went here a few months ago and outside seating was closed. However they made an exception and went out of their way to seat us outside. We had the lobster raviolis and they were delicious! Bit pricy but great. The waiters are dressed very formal and treat you with the upmost respect. Suggest this to anyone reading this. read more

We are long time (but unfortunately infrequent) diners at IL MONELLO There's not an unfriendly face nor a bad meal at Martino's (owner) restaurant. The outdoor ambiance and the cadence of the meal service and the food quality are excellent, every time. Funny story; I have a (bad) habit of leaving my credit card at restaurants. I did this a long time ago at IM and the next morning (Sunday) Martino invited me down to recover my card....multiple Sunday morning grappas later, I staggered home. Tonight, upon leaving in the car, Martino came running and shouting...(I'd left my card, again)....I told him that I'd left it on purpose so that I could go back tomorrow for a grappa encore :) :) read more

HOLY MOLY. This place is AMAZING. From the eggplant app to go on your bread to the wheel of Parmesan cheese sliced for you in front of you (mouth is salivating now). This little slice of heaven is just that, heaven. I had the boar osso Bucco with risotto phenomenal, fell right off the bone. Stuffed ravioli with Gorgonzola, walnuts and pears WOW. Good food but totally overpriced. Also they totally rushed the whole meal , my app plate was just being taken away and another was standing there with the salad. Same as the main course. Also it's byob but they bring around a cart with cordials after dinner and ask if you want one. Both me and my friend had one but when our bill came they charged $10 per shot. Ridiculous!! Their bolognese is fantastic, their meatball app is to die for, their Il Monello dish is 10 outta 10... I could continue. Their service is super friendly, respectful, and knows their products! Wow, it was exceptional service at this place!! The owner is from Italy and he provided a dining experience that was absolutely memorable! The food was awesome. Owner or manager (not sure which) was yelling at the staff when we walked in and had his mask under his chin the entire night. Half the staff were allowed to wear their masks under their noses. Complete disrespect to his staff and customers. When I asked that he put his mask on while talking to our table since my parents are in their 80's, he elected to get in my face and ask why I don't need a mask and he does. I had a work lunch at Il Monello about a month ago and was blown away by the experience. For context, the town of Peapack is tiny and pickings are relatively slim, so I was not expecting the tour de force that was put on at this small, quaint townhouse restaurant. The proprietor, Martino, is a real affable host with a magnetic personality. The vibe is welcoming and rustic, with a very authentic and traditional slant. Most importantly, they regard you as an Italian grandmother would, which means they are going to assault you with food. You best be ready! Before we even ordered anything, they brought out slices of Parmigiano-Reggiano cut from the biggest wheel I've ever seen, along with a sampler plate of salami, marinated zucchini, mushrooms and bread. This was all on the house. For an app, we decided to share an order of short rib meatballs. They were very good, but the sauce they were served with was the real winner. The kind of sauce that you know has been simmering for hours. For our mains, we had the pesto gnocchi, chicken parm, and wild boar ossu buco, which was a special for the day. The gnocchi were cooked perfectly, light and fluffy, bathed in just the right amount of creamy pesto. The chicken dish was tasty, tender and juicy, smothered in cheese and sauce. The osso buco was outstanding. The meat was perfectly seasoned and falling off the bone. It was served on a bed of risotto that effectively made it a dish way too heavy for lunch, so I ate half of it and brought the rest home. I was proud of myself for exercising such restraint, as I really just wanted to eat the whole thing and suffer the consequences! We were all pretty stuffed at that point and were ready to cut bait when Martino came out with a complimentary piece of tiramisu. We all kind of looked at each other with a collective "ugh," but after tasting a tiny bit each, we were practically fighting over the remaining forkfuls. It was easily one of the best renditions of tiramisu that I've ever had. That and an espresso was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. The prices are not cheap here, but as I mentioned, they throw a lot at you and the portion sizes are significant. Point is, you get what you pay for. If you happen to be in the area, or live nearby, I highly recommend Il Monello. Martino and his team will take care of you and I guarantee that you will not leave hungry. read more

What a great experience! Came with a friend on a Monday night and there were maybe only 3 other couples in the restaurant. The setting is in a house and it makes for a romantic setting. Martino was a great host who was busy because he said he was covering for other people that night so the service was a bit slow but I didn't mind. To start: a) Goat cheese - He shaved it from a huge block in front of us and it tasted great. b) Salami - Tasted average, came with the bread to start c) Mushroom - I believe it had vinegar in it which I didn't really like but a taste didn't hurt Meal: 1) Ossobucco - Exceptional! It was very flavorful, hot, fall of the bone, with plenty of sauce. The rice that came with it was cooked al dente and had plenty of sauce on it but not too much. This dish was well worth the almost $30 price tag. Dessert: 1) Tiramisu - Felt home made, melt in your mouth. The chocolate powder was not overbearing. There wasn't much of a coffee feel to it as much as a cheesy feel. I'd rate this 3.8/5 2) Cuppucino - Big glass with nice layering. It was piping hot so don't burn yourself! It came with foam and some chocolate powder on top. Good way to end the meal. Overall, I'll come back for a dinner date in the future! It's also BYOB so you can't beat that. read more

A wonderful, old school but elegant and intimate place. White linen but not stuffy. I had a nice veal scaloppini dish but I tried my wife's bolonese and realized I should have gotten that. It was awesome. Veal beef and lamb. It was rich creamy and very very good. Some of the best I've tried. Great attentive service. They serve a nice bread basket and a very good and unique spicy eggplant and oil appy. One nice touch is they come around with a parmasian cheese wheel on a cart and carve shavings for your appy plate. For dessert I had an incredible creme Brule cheese cake. The waiter said it was no calorie and low fat.. Liar ! Liar ! Wow! Last night my husband and I tried this gem for the first time. They had us at the first bite. A sensational spicy eggplant tapenade with fresh bread started us off. The waiter then brought a cart with a large wheel of fresh Parmesan that he sliced for us. We could not decide on appetizers so we had the Broccoli Rabe with shrimp and beans and some Burrata cheese with tomatoes. Had to try the asparagus soup too! All were Exquisite!!! My Salmone Al Monello and hubby's Vitello Al Monello were both delicious and different preparations. We could not finish after all the appetizers but made room for dessert. Not big cake lovers, we tried the Limoncello cake recommended by the waiter along with some sorbet and gelato. We became cake lovers. I was surprised to read another negative review about the wait service. Our waiter made one minor mistake. The restaurant was very crowded and he forgot to bring our ice tea. We were fine with the water but when he realized he forgot, he apologized multiple times and went out of his way to make sure our evening was perfect! Will be back with friends. I am in love with this restaurant. The chef is from Abruzzo (Abbrèzze) just like my Nonna, and all the staff is genuinely traditional Italian. Food is simply incredible, ambiance is so romantic- classy yet comfortable. He brings giant blocks of gorgeous pecorino romano cheese, freshly shaves some for you to enjoy with the bread wine and complimentary antipasti (plenty of garlic with the zucchini and eggs ) before you even get a menu. Their menu is extensive with everything from spaghetti bologenese (you may have to ask for this if it is not on the menu) for the kids to several exquisite specials. The restaurant's interior is lovely and due to COVID-19, they have added a spacious tented exterior lined with flowers. We have dined there for casual lunches as well as for special occasions to celebrate birthdays. In other words, while the food ranks among the finest Italian restaurants in the area and some of the finest we've had in Italy as well, the service is never pretentious, but always welcoming.
