(When we arrived we were told if it was an outdoor table, there would be a 45-50 min wait!!) Ordered apps, salad and entrees. We all had the same pasta as an app. Filleto de Pomadoro. (Sp?). Pasta was undercooked and there were really no pieces of the prosciutto? Or what they use in this dish. The Caesar salad was delicious, even if I only got 1 crouton! Lol. . Then they cleared the table and brought us dessert menus. We told them we hadn't had our entrees yet. We waited probably 45 mins for our dinner. Veal and Sole, delicious. The fourth dish, the Bronzino fish special, black. Top was burned black, and the fish was totally dried out. $42.50. Small piece. We asked the waitress and she said that's how it's supposed to look. What? At this point we'd been at the table 2.5 hrs. They comped dessert, mine was the wrong one. Not what I ordered. And lastly, every time they brought a dish to person on my right, the waitress leaned halfway across my plate, almost hitting me with elbow. I finally just pushed my chair all the way back when I saw her coming. We've come here before and had no complaints. Tonight was not good. And I believe totally the waitresses fault. Never apologized or told us what was happening. She needs to be trained. (We visit the Martinsville Tavern) your sister restaurant as well.

The sauce and cheese was needed as the actual meatball was a tad dry, but the flavor was there. I did not get a real taste of the mortadella. The bread helped get all of the sauce and cheese leftover. The bruschetta special contained stracciatella, butternut squash, caponatta and balsamic glaze. There were two small pieces of bread. I was hoping for a little more here, but the flavors made up for it. It tasted like a cool fall evening with everything that was incorporated here. It was on the sweeter side but not overly done. The stracciatella really brought all of the toppings together. For an entrée, I had the gnocchi ($29). It came with a lamb ragu, and grilled corn. The gnocchi were cooked to a perfect al dente and tasted very light. They were the best part of the dish. The grilled corn was a close second as it stayed crisp even with the amount of sauce present. The sauce was actually a little sweet to my surprise. In regard to the lamb ragu, it was alright. There were chunks of lamb and it was a little inconsistent as a number of pieces were fatty. I also tried the butternut squash ravioli with a brown butter sauce. These were cooked to a perfect al dente as well with tons of flavor. There was plenty of filling and the brown butter sauce complimented them nicely. I also liked the hazelnuts on top. For dessert, the bomboloni ($14) was ordered. There were seven citrus-scented ricotta doughnuts with espresso caramel and dark chocolate sauces. We did take these home and had them the next morning. They packaged them well. They reheated perfectly in the air fryer. They were tasty. The citrus was definitely noticed, but not too overpowerful. The donuts were light and very airy. I really liked the texture of these. I was a fan of the dark chocolate sauce. I am not a big espresso fan, so the caramel was not for me as it had too much of that flavor. Regardless, these were a nice treat. Will I go back? I would.

Awful. My party made reservations ahead of time, you would expect as such, we could sit where we please. Right? WRONG. We were forced to sit outside. Then, after waiting for half an hour without a menu, still without a menu, we politely asked for them. The waiter had the audacity to blame US for his lack of service. After waiting 2 HOURS for my food, it was improperly prepared. I had a seafood dish with pasta..I am not a particularly picky eater. But this meal was so disgusting I had to send it back..the pasta was bland, the sauce described was non existent, and worst of all the seafood was GRITTY!!! Having a hygiene concern, I asked for it to be sent back. The sand in that seafood physically made my teeth hurt. When I told this to the waiter he was mad at ME. Saying the food was simply not my "preferred taste" (I don't consider sand ridden food a preference!!) when we finally got the check, we told the waiter quite honesty that everything was underwhelming. This is one of my favorites. Food is consistently good, on a par with some of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. The fireplace room is charming and the entire ambiance is a perfect backdrop for fine dining. I appreciate the tablecloths and fresh flowers, appointments that are getting rarer and rarer. Portions are large and complimentary cheese and bruschetta are ambrosial. If you want something not on the menu, they will make it for you and the BYOB makes it even more perfect. I try to go there at least once a week which gives me leftovers for the next day as well. read more

This restaurant is a really nice place to go. The place is unassuming and the staff is amazing. The location is a bit hidden and might be a place to pass by. I assure you passing up on this place is a mistake. The whole team is amazing. I felt like I was at a family member's home, complete with a crazy uncle (who was wonderful). Robert, our waiter was the best. The salmon with mustard sauce was delicious beyond belief. The appetizers and desserts were excellent as well. The prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of food they serve. This place is a Home Run!!!!! They also have a great selection of specials. We shared the buratta and eggplant rolatini apps. A true gem. Favorite restaurant to take my wife and enjoy with our friends. The food is outstanding, especially the sauces, a talent that reveals the quality of the kitchen. We dine there at least once a week enjoying the fireplace in the winter and the patio in the summer. The staff at this restaurant took extremely good care of us. They serve free apps, gave us almost a whole entree for free and gave us sambuco shots after we paid the bill. I wasn't enthusiastic, but he said to meet him at his Dad's house in Bernardsville, and he'd drive me up and back (with my bad night vision, I don't relish the thought up driving up through the Bernardsville mountains into Mendham in the dark, a hesitancy of which he's aware of). Given that he was making it as easy and painless as possible, how could I say no? He suggested Dante's. I was agreeable enough, but with the new draconian diet I'm on, I had a little trepidation about ordering. It's almost an article of faith that in any new Italian restaurant I try, I'll be ordering (a) pasta fagioli (b) lasagna (c) ice cream. The parking in back didn't seem particularly spacious to my cataract-compromised eyesight, but my friend was able to secure a spot without difficulty. Inside the restaurant was large and airy (an impression helped along, no doubt, by the fact that we were the only patrons at that point), and the server was friendly and enthusiastic. We followed her to our table and perused the menu. No lasagna, so I was relieved of that particular temptation. Pasta fagioli was there under "Appetizers", but I was able to resist. The server presented us with complimentary Foccia Bread with cheese, which was delicious. We ordered glasses of water, and the only negative part that I could relate about the whole night's experience was that I also ordered a Coke, which I never got. Then again, the server might have perceived I was on a draconian diet, and realized that a Coke, with all its calories and sugar, wasn't going to help me in that endeavor. All joking aside, she was friendly and efficient, and I have no complaints about the service. Bathrooms were clean and functional. I ended up ordering the Lemon Sole Oreganata, accompanied by fresh broccoli and 2 sizable shrimp. I've never had a problem ordering fish (other than the expense) but I was a little apprehensive that it might not be filling enough. It was -- both filling and tasty. As usual, I didn't pay much attention to what my friend ordered, but he expressed more than an abundant satisfaction with it. A word about ice cream--- I've given up alcohol, opioids, and I've been adhering to the diet I've belatedly become serious about (in a few months, I've lost 24 pounds), but I'm never entirely going to give up ice cream (and at some point in the future I expect to eat lasagna again too; not often, but...occasionally...). I haven't had a lot of ice cream since I started the diet, but...given my restraint when it came to the pasta fagioli...I threw caution to the wind and ordered 2 scoops of vanilla. I anticipated small scoops, but they were large ones. Did that stop me? No. I consumed this rare treat with great alacrity. It was a delicious, satisfying indulgence. And... next morning...I discovered I had actually lost a pound. I'm happy that ice cream can be like a cousin who lives far away. You don't see them often, but when you do, it's a happy, satisfying occasion. And lasagna? It's that favored uncle who lives in upstate NY... The prices are reasonable enough, the food is plentiful, fresh and tasty, and there's a pleasant, down-home atmosphere to dining here. After we had been seated, a group of happy, Italian-speaking people came in to partake, and they seemed like regulars. Evidently, Dante's has been around for a long time, and I look forward to dining there again. Recommended.

We took time to walk the whole downtown. Very beautiful neighborhood. From outside, it may look like a small place, but when you enter you will be amazed. We had an opportunity to meet the owners (husband and wife), nice Italian couple. They were very welcoming and they love to talk to their customers about Italy and Italian food. We, along with our friends ordered Burrata, Caprese, Eggplant Rollatini, Fusilli con melanzane aromatizzate ai capperi, Frutto di granseola finta, Margherita Pizza, recommended drinks by servers (Merlot and Pinot Grigio), Tiramisu, Cappuccino, etc. Food quality and taste was excellent. They have a very nice bar and a big wine list to select. Prices may be high, but L'Allegria is worth, each penny! It is Fine dining!! I recommend this restaurant and will go back when we visit North New Jersey. Dress appropriately. It is a classy place!
