Loved you guys until you freaked out on my husband for parking in your lot. We had roofers working on our house for 2 days. Day 1: dropped over $200 at Sapori on pizza, soda, etc., for everyone. Day 2, went to get sandwiches for them at Colonial Pantry. He parked in his same spot from the day before, honestly not realizing he was in a Sapori-only lot. Oh boy, an employee came up front and ripped him a new one. He is still holding the Italian grudge as the months go by- swears he will never go back. Such a shame she didn't recognize him. We had a great meal at Sapori D'Italia. When we sat down, the table next to us immediately let us know we made a great choice - they couldn't stop talking about how authentic and delicious the food was. And luckily, after getting our meals, we definitely agree! I would say the food is ok but is more like Italian in 1980 but not in a good way Pizza with too much tomato sauce crusts that are too thick they are serving what was done 40 years ago The have not kept up old school in a bad way There is one man there very old with a hot temper I watched him in disbelief honestly I do know if he owns the place or sweeps the floor but he is bad around people Very hot temper something is off with him scary off As far as ambiance there is non get in get out If you go there avoid the old guy or you might end up in a loud disagreement or worse He is not nice a real hot head for 70 plus he should be a happy grandpa not a mean old guy in a beatiful town So many great places in the area I will pass on this one read more

My old friend was moving from Hunterdon County to Morris, and asked if I could help him "a bit" with the moving. When I was in my late teens/early 20s, I had a brief stint as a mover; I moved furniture, a safe, even chopped down a tree or 2 in the summer heat. But...I was in my late teens/early 20s, and in the best physical shape of my life. Those days are far, far behind me now. My friend assured me that he had hired a professional moving company to do the "heavy lifting," and that there were only a few "odds'n'ends" that he needed assistance with. That turned out to be the truth. A box or 2 with clothing, another with pots and pans, a guitar with broken strings, a portable heater. When we had finished, and I had taken stock of his new digs, he offered to buy me lunch, and I accepted. Mendham is not unknown to me, but I can't say I'm really very knowledgeable about its restaurants, stores, shops, etc. It has a nice main street situated in a nice town (Whitney Houston seemed to like it), but I've never been motivated to stop and sample its commercial enticements, beyond maybe filling my tank with gas at one of its gas stations, or occasionally buying a food item or 2 at its Kings Supermarket (the Kings is way too expensive to do any regular food shopping beyond the occasional item or 2, at least for me) on those rare occasions when I am passing through town. My friend suggested Sapori D'Italia and...since he was picking up the tab...was I going to argue? No. Inside, it looks like a nicely laid-out, upscale Italian market, with a table or 2 for sit-down customers. I ordered my usual, which is what I order at any Italian restaurant I've never been to before (and even in some I've been to many times)-- a bowl of pasta fagioli, a plate of lasagna, and...in this case...a side of broccoli rabe. The soup was hot and flavorful, the lasagna was very good and a nice-sized portion, and the broccoli rabe was fresh and crisp. I topped it off with a pistachio parfait that was very refreshing and took the edge off my perennially active "sweet tooth." Service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant (or market; take your pick) seems to be a family run business and the family has its origins in Sicily. My friend (as usual) engaged the server in conversation about their ancestral country. (One day, we're going to eat in an Irish restaurant, and I'll engage the server in a conversation about County Donegal, Clare and Mayo while my friend sits idly by for a change-- maybe someday...). Any negatives? Only one-- they don't offer paper menus. There's an "app" that you have to download on your phone. As I've mentioned in a few previous reviews, I'm not particularly dexterous when it comes to "new technology." Downloading "apps" is new technology, as far as I'm concerned. (As my inevitable irrelevant aside-- the IT guy where I work was fixing something on my computer over the phone one day, and...by way of making conversation during the awkward silences...I mentioned my near total inability to function when it comes to "modern technology," citing my advanced age and referring to myself as a "Luddite." He asked my age. When I told him, he replied, "I'm the same age. You should know." Ok, Dad, editorial comment noted. In support of his judgmental comment, however , my old friend is only a year or 2 younger than I am, and he's pretty up to date on modern technology. Maybe it just comes down to plain ol' stupidity. Anyway...) Ordering wasn't an issue, thanks to my friend's facility with "modern technology," but if I had been by myself, or with my birth mother, or with someone even older than I am, or more addle-brained than I am...it would have presented a definite problem. So much of a problem that I'd have been compelled to patronize another restaurant. Which would be a shame, as this is a very good restaurant, serving very good food, with top-notch service. The food was ok. My lasagna came to the table and it was cold. I think the issue is the kitchen is downstairs and we were on the second floor. The appetizers were excellent. My other guests said food was ok. I think they were overwhelmed by the crowd as it was Christmas Eve. Service was excellent. Well there not to much to say it a standard Pizzera with a great decor. The pizza was standard on the thin side with sweet sauce . I had the Chesse calzone which as very good with side of sweet sauce . The slices of pizza on the trays for display looked old and dry out , guessing it's not a lot of turn over for slices . There was plenty on the street parking and also in the rear of the store front . They sell frozen pasta with their name on them , I am pretty sure they don't make them their . We were cheerfully greeted by a young lady ,Simona (likely a grand daughter) We ordered a Caesar salad, lasagna ,a side of meatballs and a sausage/peppers and onion hot sub. The lasagna, meatballs both in a marinara sauce which we were told were family recipes. As a foodie and an Italian/America having grow up on Mamma's cooking in the Italian section of Brooklyn my taste buds are educated to this kind of cuisine. The sauce was outstanding quite tasty but not too sweet or acidic. The meatballs had a delicious flavor , not too dense and as good as Mammas'. This is the best pizza for many miles around. Beautifully crafted by a caring Sicilian family and not just the pizza all the food is homemade and presented as you would to friends. I'd say in a food desert for decent restaurants, this place has a very decent selection so yes, I'd recommend it if you're stuck in Mendham and don't feel the urge to go to Morristown or further.
