Hadn't been here in twenty years! Just took my son there for his first time. He said the sub was the best he's ever had! Quality and portions are exactly the same from twenty years ago!! Unfortunately my last visit here was disappointing. I got the ham joe it had slimmed down quite a bit. Less ham and less cheese. But same dressing! 4oz. of ham to be exact for a 10.00 sandwich. I believe 2 slices of swiss. But it tasted ok. The atmosphere there was pretty sad no smiles or happy greetings seemed a little tense. Service was very slow. I've been in 3-4 times since we moved to Mendham a little while ago and have enjoyed it each and every time. It's run by a great, friendly father and son team. Everything is fresh, with some items from a nearby farm and even some butchering on site. If you want a great, humongous sandwich, this is the place, especially their Italian sandwiches. They're made with awesome bread and piled high with meat and cheese. A whole one is easily enough for two. They are also famous for their chili, which is also excellent. we've lived about a 15 minute walk away for over 27 years. this place has never gone down in quality. my son grew up loving the Reuben's and now lives in CA and still heads there for a Reuben whenever he comes home. I moved to Mendham about 2 years ago and have made many visits to this deli! I love that it's almost exactly the same as when my parents and grandparents lived in the area in the 80's and 90's, and is still run by the same people! My go-to is the Italian sub with hot peppers but everything I've tried has been fantastic. They make so many different homemade products and the people who run the shop are so nice. Once, I showed up as they were locking up and had already cleaned everything. Instead of turning me away, they took the time to make me the sandwiches my boyfriend and I were craving. Whenever friends are visiting this is where I bring them. I hope they are around for many years to come! read more

I live in California and we make Colonial Pantry's Sloppy Joes one of the "must haves" everytime we visit. They just have the right ratio of turkey,French dressing, and Cole slaw on every sandwich. We've had other Slopy Joe's from other delis and this is the best we have found. read more

Just moved to the area and discovered this place. Classic old school Italian deli with owners that care about the product. Amazing Italian sub. Everything here is cooked from scratch and they use great crispy sub bread (for me bread is make or break!). As I was waiting for my sub guy next to me told me they had the best Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese sandwiches so that's for my next trip! Give this place a shot for sure. read more

I love this tiny little place. It's takeout only, but the atmosphere is great. Take a gander at the oak meat locker and sundries on the shelves, and you feel like you stepped back in time. They make the best Italian sub around. The owner feels strongly about the quality of the food he sells and always has a small selection of homemade salads, fresh vegetables, and prime cuts of meat. Went here for the first time this past weekend, and I am definitely coming back! The place smelled amazing when I walked in. It is a small deli, but everything is visible, and there was a wide variety of choices. My sandwich was delicious. It was fresh, tasted amazing, and handmade right in front of me. I am very picky about sandwiches, and this place is definitely a gem. The service was fast, and everyone was super nice. They also had fresh peaches for sale, which is something I have not seen before at a deli. I highly recommend anyone go here if they are looking for high-quality, fresh ingredients. The only negative is that the storefront is not very visible from the road. I didn't even know this place existed until a friend mentioned we should get lunch here. My workmates and I visited the Deli during our storm restoration efforts after "Hurricane Sandy". We were so impressed with the quality of the food that we returned and brought more fellow workers with us. The food was excellent, the service superb and friendlier folks could not be found. They even offered to open up on Sunday and feed us if we needed them. I will drive out of my way for another visit with my wife the next time I'm in the area.
