We came here simply because we didn't want to cook that day. Somehow, we wanted to try a sushi bar we had never been to before. I think the price is pretty affordable, which surprised me. The fish was fresh, and the meals were tasty. I know it's not an "authentic" sushi bar. This kind of fusion sushi might make Japanese foodies frown. The sushi bar is next to first markham place which is very convenient! But the outside looks a bit dark, so you might need to take some time to find it. The menu has so many options and I ordered 3 sushi rolls ( Double Salmon, IKON House Roll and Ultra Spicy Tuna) to go for 2 person and they were delicious and the potion was good for 2 person. My favourite is the IKON house roll and it made with purple rice which the texture and the taste were surprisingly good. And if you are takeaways, their packaging is so CUTE. They wrap it with a Japanese-style furoshiki cloth. Love it! However, the service was not the best, when I arrived there, and I was asking for the menu, the server responded me with a not friendly attitude and asked me to scan the QR code. Where do I begin? We left and didn't order because their business model is absolute Ohio. They do QR but they do not have wifi. How do you MANDATE a service that requires an internet connection without providing an internet connection?? Make it make sense. When we went in, they just waved to the general dining hall and told us to seat ourselves?? What is this, a mom and pop 茶餐廳？ Also, you can't even order from the QR... What is the point of the qr then? We gotta walk up to the counter (to the taped menu with the hair on it, as pictured) with our order memorized. Yes, I could Google the site but why should I? Other places don't do that, and I don't expect to Google the menu at every restaurant I visit. I'm here to eat, not to do research. Yet we're supposed to tip after all that? Tip for what? No water, no tea, no actual server, no greeting, half functional QR... There's no service. Even McDonald's has better customer service. This business is so fixated on prioritizing the convenience of the business that they have completely neglected customer experience. I get better service from the caf at my university. Got takeout so can't really rate the services. They were nice enough when I interacted with them for the pick up. The decor is nothing crazy but plenty of TVs inside to watch while u eat. Pro tip is for takeout order 30 mins before your actual pick up time. Ie if u need 6pm pick up then call and ask for 530pm. This way u won't have to wait if u r early. Location/Service This place is right in the plaza next to First Markham Place, by A La Kitchen to be exact. There's good parking around that plaza and obviously you can park across at FMP. Decor inside is pretty trendy as it also served as a lounge. I didn't see much tables available for dining and I usually took it to go for takeout. Staff can actually speak Chinese and it was ready on time at pick up. I also like how they use an unique Japanese style cloth to wrap the bento like in the movies/anime vs plastic bag. Food I ordered the S5. Supreme Sushi, Sashimi & Roll - which is about 34 pieces, suitable for a party of 2-3 people. The quality of the fish is really fresh. I particularly enjoyed the toro and salmon pieces. It's quite fatty and thick, so you know they didn't "cheap" out on delivering the quality. The sushi rolls were also different to other places I've tried. I didn't expect a multi-grain/purple rice would make a delicious roll. Pricing wise I think it is reasonable for this quality, though I don't seem to see myself getting it on a regular basis - more like a little reward/splurge time-to-time. read more

I picked up the premium sashimi, sushi and roll platter (S6) with a bottle of beautiful junmai daiginjo sake for dinner tonight. With a la carte addition of uni and otoro sashimi, our first dinner from IKON was complete. The cloth wrapping was beautiful as can be seen in others' reviews and I certainly appreciated the store's effort to minimize waste. The take out was packed beautifully as well with careful attention detail. I usually don't order rolls as I find that it's just simply too much rice. IKON's rolls are interesting variation to the usual variety seen in most restaurants and were quite tasty. One of the sauces definitely had a hint of truffle which was so yummy! All the fish were beautifully fresh (except the uni maybe) and atop a very good shari. When you have fish that fresh, there is not enough words to describe the sheer joy of each bite. Accompanied by the beautifully smooth sake recommended by the staff, this was easily the best sushi dinner we have had in a while. We thoroughly enjoyed our first IKON experience and I look forward to trying out their other offering soon! read more

Beautiful selection of fresh sashimi sushi topped with foie gras, Yuzu, Tobiko, or mince ginger and garlic. I also enjoyed the rice which is different .... not sure seems like it is a mix of brown rice. I could not find any info on the type of rice used on the menu or website. Finally got the opportunity to come by as we wanted something nice for a special occasion. Plus I saw a lot of pictures from other Yelpers so we decided to give this as a "must try". Anyhow, I made the order earlier in the morning for the S5 (Supreme Sushi, Sashimi & Roll). We came by just after our time to grab our food. The inside of IKON is clean and clients are very orderly. We picked up our order and drove home. After we got home, the order was still fresh and relatively warm. We started chowing down our food. We were pleasantly surprised with the choices of the ingredients. Example, IKON House Roll, they use truffle mayo for dressing. Oh my!! The flavours are great! We also had their spicy salmon roll and the varying flavours are also great too! The sashimi are fresh. However, the best piece is the negi-toro sushi for us. It's fresh and wow. Got the V2. Vintage Sashimi Set and a IG1. Inari GunKan as seen in the attached. IG1. was great. V2. was questionable. The V2 is 56 pieces of assorted sashimi. 12 pcs shown to be Salmon. What we received was more than half Salmon. We received 32 pieces of Salmon. We called to ask why there is a discrepancy and were told it's a seasonality issue, but then it would have been nice to be told that the V2 is not as pictured. The entire reason to order assorted Sashimi is to get an assortment and getting more than half Salmon seems unfair. Otherwise, the food was fine and there was no issues upon pick up. And it was fresh but it's simply comparable to other offerings in the area that wouldn't seem to have this issue. *Salmon is not a seasonal fish to my understanding. Not worth the hype. Was super excited to give IKON a try since everyone was raving about them, but was left disappointed. I got the supreme sashimi set for 2 ($58) Swapped out red tuna (akami) And the supreme sushi set for 2 ($55) Presentation wise amazing very instagram worthy, but thats basically it. The sushi didn't have much flavour and the fish quality is just a little above average. I didn't have to travel much and when I got home the seaweed was already soggy. My review is based on my walk-in experience. I know this shop is busy and take order throughout the week and pick up is only available from Thursday to Sunday. My visit was on Thursday late afternoon and highly recommend to order ahead so you won't be disappointed. I was greeted by a friendly staff when I stepped into the store. I told him I didn't order in advance and told him what I wanted to order. He politely advised me that he needed to check the order system to see if the chef can accommodate my order. Order was placed once he confirmed they had time slot to prepare my order. I ordered their signature chirashi Don and it was ready pretty quickly. The food was wrapped in a cloth like those traditional Japanese home made bento box. I like the presentation and environmental friendly as no plastic bag was used although I am not sure how I should reuse the cloth after. The chirashi Don itself was very appealing. The chopped seafood was placed on top of a bed of warm seasoned sushi rice. It was tasty and the seafood was fresh. The only complain would be the octopus would need more massage as the pieces were pretty chewy. The portion was generous. I have had bara chirashi from other places in Toronto. Ikon Sushi offers very good value for the price I paid. I will definitely go back to their other sushi combo. read more

They wrap your takeout order in a cute cloth which was a nice touch! All of the fish were very fresh! For the pieces where they added some toppings/sauces, those additions went well with the fish. I was also told they have a housemade soya sauce they add on top of the Supreme sushi. Finally checked out the very popular Ikon sushi! Their Markham location does sushi and sake takeout only. I preordered a few days in advance and I'm glad I saw they had so many orders when I picked up! I ordered the S6, Supreme Sushi, Sashimi, and Rolls for $110. I swapped the Spicy Salmon roll for Torched Golden House Roll (a few dollars difference). The presentation and packaging was very nice for takeout sushi and they wrap the trays in a cloth. The sashimi and sushi was very fresh and good quality for the price. Some of the sushi were topped with some truffle. The rice to filling ratio was so high for the roll. I personally like more filling than rice. Also, the Torched Golden House Roll is supposed to be crab salad in the filling, but it was just plain crab meat. It's different how they use purple rice for some rolls, but it's also weird because the texture is like some of the rice is uncooked. I'd recommend sushi/sashimi only and will be back for those trays! read more

I was totally drawn in to this place by the super cute packaging. There isn't a ton of information about it. I was worried that it only came with certain meals like the party trays or something like that but it seems like it's available for all orders. I called to put in a pickup order on a Saturday at 7:30pm. You can order in advance for the next day. Some of the party trays require you to order at least 24 hours ahead. The staff member that took my call answered both in English and Cantonese so you can place your order either way. I was quoted a time for how long it would take the order to be ready. They also let me know up front that they only take debit or cash. My box was super cute! The furoshiki (Japanese cloth used to wrap bentos) is amazingly soft. Not sure if this is a super traditional one to use but it's so nice. Inside of it is the box was the sushi which was also very sturdy. It held up well enough that I was able to ravenously enjoy my sushi in my car (I was super hungry). All of the rolls that we had were pretty good. The big draw of the IKON House Roll was the purple rice. It also had goma-ae which is a seasoned spinach salad that I don't often see in sushi rolls, worth a try! The second roll I got was the Vintage Roll which is a vegetarian roll. The dashi maki tamago was very good and I love the texture that the shiitakes had in there. These were both from the "special" roll section. I also ordered a few classics in the Black Dragon Roll (the favourite one of my companion of the ones we tried). For my last roll, I swear I ordered a spicy salmon roll but I actually received a salmon/avocado kind of roll. This was nice too and what I wound up kind of wanting anyways. read more

I couldn't finish the plate, not because I'm full, because it was hard to eat - too gross to eat. Decided to try this place after seeing it all over Instagram. I love the wrapping their take out comes in. So cute and traditional. The sushi presentation was also really thought out. My experience at Ikon was not what I anticipated. Good service overall. friendly staff. Packaging was nice and I do like the bento box style they do with the wrapped fabric cloth. The sashimi we had was quite underwhelming and was not fresh, which was the reason for this rating. Given the price and the fish offered, I was anticipating better. The rolls were well prepared and good ratio of filling to rice. Rice was seasoned well, not too sticky and held together. Even so, the quality of the fish just didn't work, which made the rolls less appealing. Even the salmon sashimi was only sub par and the quality was not there. Was also warm and tasted a bit stale. I would love to try them again but given the price and this experience I'm unsure if I'll be returning any time soon. read more

Extremely disappointed in the customer service. I usually don't factor in CS too much when writing reviews because I really think it should be about the food; however, this experience really upset me. I was OMW to Ikon when I thought I would call in to place an order - just to speed things up. They picked up and I spoke to them; they ended up putting me on hold for ~8 minutes before I decided to just hang up because I was almost there. When I went inside, there were at least two people who didn't seem to be doing anything and nobody was on the phone. Yet, I was put on hold and nobody decided to call me back? Don't tell me your business doesn't have caller ID. I also was not greeted when I walked in and nobody asked if I was placing an order or picking up.. etc until I asked if I can place an order. I was also the only customer in the store. FOOD / PRESENTATION: Excellent presentation with the cloth wrapping. IDK if this exists yet but would to see a program in the future (post-COVID) where we can bring back the cloth (similar to how you can return hangers at the dry cleaner - yay for reusability/sustainability). The sashimi was fresh and pretty good, better than several take out places that I've tried. I really enjoyed the Chirashi. FYI - the rice is a bit hard. read more

The quality is higher than most places that primarily do takeout party trays, but it wouldn't be at the same quality as a Zen or Taro's Fish for example.
