My boyfriend and I love IKEA! We got most our furniture used from Craigslist, Offerup, and Facebook Marketplace (lower prices and better quality than Ikea), but we bought a lot of housewares from Ikea. Flatware and kitchen supplies are fairly good quality, and as cheap as it gets, and they have everything you'd possibly need. We also bought a few plants for the house here - we'll see how long they last though. read more

I'm trying to get off the IKEA catalog mailing list. But it seems to be impossible. There is a webpage where you can supposedly go to do that. But, that webpage actually says that it's for requesting a catalog - the opposite of what I want to do. And, when I've tried to call the customer service number a dozen times and keep getting a message to call back later (this is customer service - really?). And I tried sending an email but it never seems to actually get sent (though I have no problem emailing everyone else in the world). HELLO IKEA - IS THERE ANYONE THERE? I have bought several things from IKEA and I like them. But I don't buy anything from companies that send me paper catalogs. So, if anyone from IKEA ever reads this, fix it. I had been curious about Ikea for years but was not impressed. The layout is confusing. One door I went through once was later locked, an elevator went up but not down, and although in some places they added short cuts to avoid sections of the store that are not relevant in other places they did not. Some items listed as being in store on their website are not. Wifi only works if you already have an Ikea account, but to set up the account you need internet access from the wifi, the same sort of endless loop featured in their store layout. The furniture was cheaply made and the carts were too. They had weird wheels on them that made them hard to push, or were undersized and oddly shaped. The food area was hard to find, and not on the store map. When I found it I was shocked that they do not take cash. Maybe in Sweden you can demand customers use credit cards, but in the US cash money is legal tender for all debts private and public. They also do not follow Massachusetts law regarding unit pricing. I put in a $1,600 delivery order on July 29th and was told it would take 2 weeks to deliver because some items weren't in-store at Stoughton Massachusetts. Which is fine. The day the delivery came on August 14th Ikea delivered a single table top. After spending roughly 2 hours on hold I was told there was a mistake in Ikea's system and my order wasn't processed. No one could explain how a SINGLE table top was submitted, but nothing else. Ikea claimed it would arrive next week. The representative told me that if I drove to Ikea's store in-person (1.5 hour drive each way) I could get expedited delivery. I tried to call the store directly, that's impossible, and after another 2 hours on hold the representative told me I can't speak to the store and I can't get it expedited. Today is August 23rd, my delivery never arrived and I didn't get a call from XPO saying it was coming yesterday. I spent another hour and a half and was told my delivery was never picked. The representative told me I would have to wait another week until August 30th. The problem is I'm getting married in my house on August 29th the order was so there wouldn't be boxes everywhere. No one can explain why my order was not pick and not set up for delivery. It seems I have no choice but wait for Ikea to maybe deliver my order two weeks late and after over 5 hours on hold. read more

Given the size and worldwide presence, one would think they have their on- line ordering down, but they do not. We attempted to purchase an office chair in November 2020, but given the pandemic drain on home office furniture there was no stock anywhere. We placed a "notify us alert" when the chair was back in stock and had to renew it January 1 when it expired. Late February , I checked stock and they had four. Spent nearly an hour trying to order it on line, but I was unable to check out. Called the next day..was told by Customer Service that Ikea does not allow on line ordering for anything with a stock level under six. How about letting you know that at checkout! Told more where coming in on March 4th. Checked stock on March 3rd and there were seven in stock. Immediately started the order process from my office. Tried to check out and it stalled again. Called customer service ( again) and was told they had to send a link to my e-mail for me to pay for it. I tried to open it on my phone, but it never came. Rep told my it had to be on a computer. Sent to my office and it never came. Called my wife at home and had a link sent to both her addresses ( home and home office ) . After 10 minutes a link finally arrived and i had to dictate a credit card # over the phone while still in conference with the rep! Took nearly an hour to get it done. Unbelievable! Shitty store. Shitty customer service. I've bought items and scheduled a delivery two weeks ago. One of the items didn't arrive with the delivery and another item was damaged. We've paid to assemble the couch. There was no one to assemble the couch during delivery. It has been two weeks now. They still have not delivered the item that was missed during delivery And the replacement item. I've called the customer service six times since then and they assure someone will call me in 24-48 hours and no one calls. The lady who is apparently the store manager is very rude. Don't know how she became one with such an attitude and terrible soft skills. The store manager should lose the job for her terrible customer service! I would give 0 stars if possible. Avoid at all costs! The customer support is apathetic, anti/customer and will do ANYTHING to avoid assisting customers. Management doesn't take responsibility for their lazy staff (if they'll even bother to speak to you). You will completely waste your time. Even the cafe (which used to be great) sucks now. They're out of mostly everything on the menu at all times. Maybe it's only this one store but CLEARLY no one who works there is doing anything more than dialing it in. This review is based on my most recent experience, and is not indicative of what I normally get there (which is to be left alone quietly to shop)... I called the local store, which the number provided by Ikea for the "local" store just passed me on to the national call center. After making 5 selections for location, department, type of purchase, etc, I ended up with a department I wasn't sure was even the right one. Anyway, you can't back up to a previous call center, and after already dedicating 3 minutes to get this far, I figured I'd wait. Wow, 11 minutes in to my hold time I decided to send them an email to ask my question or at least get contact. I spent a minute filling ou tthe form, and it wouldn't send. WTF Ikea. You don't want my money. I get it. I'm letting other folks know that you probably don't want theirs either. Folks, shop elsewhere. Worst Customer Service Award! I drove an hour to buy a $6.00 alarm clock the IKEA app said was in stock in the Stoughton Store. I went with a physically disabled woman for the long ride. Once there, I asked an employee for the item's location in the store. I was dragged, way too fast, for about a mile with my disabled companion painfully limping in tow with her cane until we came to a large display of clocks in the "Marketplace" section of the store. The only clock of the model I came for, was the display model. With no help in sight, I carried this display model clock the return mile to the register to show, to inquire where the new, boxed stock was. The female employee looked on her phone's IKEA app and saw that the item was indeed listed as in stock, but she said I had looked in the wrong department. Then she stood there blankly looking at me as I explained that an IKEA employee had led me there, and that my companion couldn't walk this whole mausoleum again to another department. I asked what I thought was a reasonable request; if this employee could have someone fetch me the item. She seemed exasperated, telling me the store was near closing-time. "Yes, so?" I asked. She told me I could come back tomorrow. "I drove an hour to get here." "You can come back tomorrow and look in the correct department." My disabled friend was now sitting on the check-out platform, in too much pain to stand for another moment. Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. I could scarcely believe what I was hearing. "You want me to drive an hour back home, and drive an hour back, tomorrow, and then an hour back home, again, for a $6.00 clock you have in stock now?" Finally after more discussion, the employee asked by phone for someone to fetch me the item, and we waited. After a while, she informed me that the item was NOT in stock. I asked if she could sell me the display model. After much more absurd conversation, and a manager's intervention, she finally sold me the unboxed, scratched floor model - for full price. I got the alarm clock home and put batteries in the alarm clock. The alarm does not work. I called IKEA's ONLY phone number and waited on hold for an extremely long time, only to be told that the ONLY way I can get a replacement for the broken clock they sold me is to order a new one online, with a roughly $6.00 shipping fee, WHICH THERE IS "NO WAY" FOR IKEA TO WAIVE. So, they NOW expect me, after all my inconvenience - which was entirely IKEA's fault, to pay TWICE the total price for a WORKING replacement clock. or, I CAN "SIMPLY" drive back to IKEA, return the item there, and purchase a new one - as if I'm going to trust them again to even have the item when the app says the item is in stock. With no possible way to contact the store by phone, they expect me to PAY FOR SHIPPING to get a replacement for their broken clock, or, SPEND 2 HOURS ON THE ROAD AGAIN, a TOTAL OF 4 HOURS OF DRIVING, and another hour wandering around their ridiculously laid-out store, again, to likely come back empty-handed - again - and all this, during COVID. I placed an online order on August 15th. After getting an email that the cushions weren't coming for my Poang chairs, I received no other communication from IKEA. That is until September 1st when I called them (waited on hold for 30 minutes) to inquire about my approximate delivery date of 9/1 and that I hadn't heard from the delivery company. I was told that my merchandise was picked by the delivery company on that day (9/1) and that I should be getting a call from XPO Logistics with a delivery time. XPO calls and says my delivery date is 9/4 from 11-3. 9/4 arrives, it is 11:30 and I get a call that the delivery truck has broken down (seemed a bit suspicious to me, but anyway...) and that they need to reschedule my delivery for 9/5 11-3. We wait around until 3:15 then call, they keep my husband on hold for 20 minutes to tell him that they will be there in about 35-45 minutes. Delivery goes pretty smooth until about 30 minutes later I get a call from the delivery driver that they dropped off a piece that wasn't ours and they need to come back to pick it up. We start to put together my son's bed, the center support that says it's included if you order online is missing! So after all the waiting we couldn't put together his bed, I can't sit in the chairs I ordered since the cushions didn't come with them, and my son's desk top was damaged. tldr; AVOID DELIVERY AT ALL COSTS. Hi fellow Yelpers, I placed a modestly-large Ikea order online. The delivery driver missed the delivery window, and they were unable to reschedule within a reasonable amount of time. Gross. Resolving this took about six hours of phone conversation and a lot of screaming at the horrid IKEA on-hold music. The resolution was a cancelled order and a heavy sigh. Gross. But you may be asking yourself "Why are you reviewing IKEA Stoughton"? Good question! After this headache, I decided, screw it, I'll just drive to the store and take advantage of their next-day delivery for in-store purchases. Went through the whole process of picking a large order, and made sure to ask about when it would be delivered. "Next day, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m." they said. Okay, placed the order. The next day, I spent the four hours sitting in my (mostly empty) apartment, waiting. Waiting. ......waiting. Nope. Okay, where are these guys? Called IKEA, more hold muzak, more hair pulling. Turns out, not coming today, not coming tomorrow. "IKEA resolutions department will call you within 24 to 48 hours. Here is your case number thankyoubye." Honestly, I've wasted so much time that I would have been better off buying significantly more expensive furniture. So the take-away is that IKEA is, well, IKEA if you buy in the store. Awful. I have been to this IKEA in the past, but the past weekend made me think twice about going back, especially on a Saturday... My fiance and I were shopping for a dresser. We already know which one we want, but figure we can browse the showrooms for ideas for other things like a computer desk, couches and what not. Holy hell that place was packed at 5pm on a Saturday. I know it was probably our own fault for going on Saturday, but we didn't really expect to buy much, just "browse". After battling through crowds and crowds of people, shopping carts and baby carriages, I was dying to get out. We got our little aisle number for when we go to the warehouse, we grabbed a few small items like lint rollers, knife rack and measuring spoons. After going through the marketplace aka maze with MORE crying kids... we finally got to the warehouse. We got one of those flat carts because knowing the other Malm products we used, we know this dresser is pretty heavy. It was actually only two boxes, but still easier with the flat cart. We stood in line for maybe about 20 minutes, finally we were the next in line! A rude IKEA employee came over to us and this happened: Rude IKEA Employee: Um, flat carts use the other lanes. Me: Excuse me? Rude IKEA Employee: Yeah, there are signs, you see the sign here. Me: No, not from a 20 minute line, no I didn't. Rude IKEA Employee: well, there are signs back there too Me: Where? Where is it with all these clusters of furnitures, displays and customers standing in line? Rude IKEA Employee: Well you can't use the carts here Me: What, so we have to stand in line AGAIN? Rude IKEA Employee... Walks away... Really? We so could have ditched the cart and just carry the two heavy boxes through the "no flat carts" registers, hurt ourselves and sue IKEA. That's what we should have done. I just think with a busy day like that, exceptions should have been made, OR better yet, have employees either 1) DIRECT TRAFFIC, or 2) have someone at the BACK of the line telling people they cannot be at a certain register because of the type of cart they have. That would have saved us 20 minutes of being in line. So what did we do? We ditched the stupid cart with all the products in it, said screw it, and left to go have sushi buffet. My driver, Gustavo, ran off among the sofas, bouncing on each one and commenting in Portuguese about the various textures and firmness. It was late, almost closing time. The store was empty save for a few staff and cleaning personnel. We walked through the cavernous display halls with their attractive home facades, fake TVs and laptops, and bookshelves full of Swedish tomes. The store intercom chimed and a pleasantly professional voice announced, "Attention IKEA customers, it is now 9 oclock and the store is closed. Please make your way towards the exit." Gustavo stopped bouncing on a mauve-colored loveseat and looked at me. His habit of driving without printed directions had cost us an extra hour and now we were out of time. I tried to figure out the fastest way out of the bowels of the store. I was beginning to sense an ominous presence in the now-empty building. "Gustavo, make haste! I don't like the look of things. See, not even the employees remain. We should leave at once!" We quickened our pace and followed the arrows on the floor around seemingly endless twists and turns. The store intercom chimed again. "The time is now 9:15. All IKEA visitors must now be clear of the display floors. Employees please institute security lockdown." Gustavo and I looked at each other with confusion and rising anxiety. "Let's go. Let's go now!" I growled and began double-timing along the path. But no matter how many different rooms we passed though, how many corners we turned, the never-ending forest of lamps, mirrors, bookshelves and vases continued. The overhead lights began to go out. Darkness rushed over us. We stopped, unsure where to flee. The intercom chimed again. We froze. After a moment a blood-curdling war cry pierced the air. The operator's voice which was before so pleasant had transformed into some shrieking netherworld demon. "PURIFY THE PITIFUL MORTALS FROM THIS TEMPLE! KILL ALL WHO REMAIN! RELEASE THE BEASTS!" The intercom chimed, signalling the end of this frightening memo. Gustavo and I stood, quivering with fear, unable to move. Our eyes adjusted to the minimal light cast by the red exit signs. From somewhere deep in the caverns of Ikea, a ghostly howl rose. It was like the sound of a wolf, only more conscious and malicious. Another howl rose and then another, until a chorus of hellish animal voices shook the very roof. Gustavo sighed with terror, almost fainting. I grabbed him by the arm and shook him. "Pull yourself together man! We have only seconds before those Ikea beasts find us and rip us to shreds. Now RUN!" We took off running through the darkness. Behind us the sound of galloping feet became audible. We dared not look back. We rounded a corner and ahead of us there was a bright light. The food court elevator! I sprinted and jumped into the elevator. Gustavo stumbled and slid to the threshold. The elevator doors tried to close but his body stopped them and they recoiled. Suddenly I heard the beasts round the nearest corned. I stared into the darkness. Red eyes bounded towards us. I grabbed Gustavo by both arms and dragged him into the elevator, frantically pressing the button to close the doors. Red eyes rushed closer and closer. The smell of decay and desolation filled my nostrils. The sound of their bounding feet and snarling maws reverberated in the elevator. Then the doors shut and all was silent. Gustavo lay on his stomach, sobbing quietly. I slumped against the wall and watched the lighted buttons as we descended towards the parking level. A pleasant bit of music floated lightly from the elevator speakers. We had survived. "Gustavo!" I said. This is the last time you will ever drive without printing directions from Mapquest, do you understand?" Gustavo nodded silently without getting off the floor. I thought to myself... You can't treat Ikea as a store. You can't. The people who treat Ikea as a store never enjoy the experience. You have to treat Ikea as an event! What to Do: 1. Peruse the website and get an idea of what you want (especially if you're looking for large items). Be sure to check availability in the store and write down the item number. This is a "night before" job. 2. Sleep in. Why wake up early... sleep in. Then go have breakfast. If you REALLY want to get there right away, you can have breakfast AT Ikea. And for like 99 cents. And it's pretty good. But, really, you're better off having breakfast someplace else, and save Ikea for lunch. 3. Drive there. This may mean renting a truck or finding a friend with a truck or making sure there's room in your car to fold down your seats or whatever you need to do to be prepared transport home the spoils of your conquest. If it's not pouring, try parking on the top level. Parking is often better and easier up there. 4. Don't forget your list or your wallet or your cell phone (in case you get lost!). Head in and go upstairs to the showroom. Make sure to grab one of those little pencils and if there's no room to write on your list grab one of those pieces of paper. 5. Wander aimlessly. Look at everything. Sit on the furniture. Pick up the dishes. Jump on the bed. Think of it as a furniture-themed theme park. Take notes. 6. You've been wandering for over an hour now. Stop at the cafeteria for lunch. Have Swedish meatballs and mac and cheese or Swedish meatballs and veggies. Don't bother with the fries. Do have that apple pie looking thing and maybe a yummy sparkling juice. 7. Get ready to shop. Okay, I know, you've been there for three hours and you haven't even begun shopping.. but you brought a friend, right? And you're having fun. 8. Head down stairs, grab a cart, and, yes, wander aimlessly. Go up and down every isle. Touch everything. Remember, the wares are better than the furniture (if you're getting furniture, it's because it's good for the price and you need it, not because you've got a high end budget and are looking for the best stuff ever). Get some decent plates and candles and rugs and plants for cheap. Stay away from the cheap sheets. They recently got better, less cheap sheets. If you really need sheets, get the better ones. Buy curtains and rods and shelves. Don't buy wrapping paper, you can get it cheaper at Target. Buy neat, stackable, wicker chairs for your patio. Buy Earth-friendly light bulbs - your wallet will thank you twice (once for buying better looking cheaper bulbs in the first place than other fluorescents and again for saving energy at home). Make sure to get all the little things on your list.. but don't worry that you can't find the bookshelf you wanted... that part's coming. 9. Head out the the "warehouse" area. You'll know where it is when you get to it. Get a second cart. The large items type of cart. Find your item by number. There is a help desk, so if you need help, ask. 10. You've got everything you want! Head to check out and check out! WAIT! Not yet. Check the "As Is" section. Maybe you need an ashtray for your smoker friends who come over and smoke on your porch and they only come in sets of three but there's one in "as is." Or something like that. Could happen. CHECK. 11. Okay check out. If you have a little stuff, go to self check out. Did you bring your own bags? Okay, I know I didn't SAY to bring your own bags in the beginning, but you really should have brought your own bags. Well, yes, they have bags but you have to buy them. Oh, stop bitching about having to buy them! You should have brought your own bags anyway. It's good for the PLANET. Ikea cares, so should you. Are you done checking out yet? Good. Go get an ice cream. 12. Have a snack. Soft serve or maybe a hot dog or a cinnamon bun. It's been two hours since lunch and you'll want to check the import foods before leaving and you DON'T want to do that on an empty stomach. 13. Yes, more shopping. Walk through the foods section. Do buy chocolate. Stay away from Cloudberry and Gooseberry jams. Okay, I KNOW they sound like they could be good, but trust me, they're kind of bland and you can get better jams at TJ's. Buy more chocolate, that's not enough. Oh, and some meatballs. Oh, and those cookies look nice. NO, that wheel of dried wheat bread hanging on the wall is not going to be good. 14. You can leave now. Pack up your car and head home. Unpack but don't put anything together yet. Go have a drink. You've done enough for one day. Tips -Help is more plentiful than some think. And everyone's in a yellow shirt. -If you're buying big items use the online space planner to figure out what will fit. Update: Ikea gave me a refund but was not clear about how they did it. Resulted in an embarrassing trip to Ikea for my friend because she could not use the store credit they gave me. (Almost) Four new chairs were bought. Sometime in September, my mom called and finally saw a refund from IKEA on her credit card. I felt victorious. A bit later, my friend decided to go to IKEA with a friend. We were finally going to get chairs, except this time they would be a different, cheaper model. At checkout, the earlier store credit that refunded shipping would not work. I was in the meantime having a great evening at a concert which was interrupted by this new IKEA ordeal. Then I had to call between my mom to figure out the exact number of the credit card return and my friend who was speaking to customer service. Turns out the store credit already was returned and lumped with the original cost of the four chairs. At the end of this, I realized I thought the price of the chair was different, and I inconvenienced everyone including me. That is a personal problem, I admit, and I screwed up. If only IKEA were clearer to me when that happened.. Then, we start assembling the chairs for our housewarming party when we realize an entire bag of pieces is missing, the horizontal metal bars and plastic holders. I curl up in a ball and cry. In the middle of November, we still only have 3 chairs. My friend emailed IKEA and heard nothing; she gave up and just ordered the part again online - still waiting for that. We both value or sanity and time more than the cost of this part instead of dealing with IKEA customer service ever again. I don't even know if I can ever step foot into an IKEA without going into a tirade and rant. My friends are tired of this story. I'm tired of thinking of it, and I'm glad it's finally over (mostly..). read more

The horror...the horror... On random Sundays my girlfriend would say "Let's go to IKEA and get some (blah blah blah)" I would reach for the gun I keep in my imagination and shoot myself in the head. IKEA on a Sunday is the worst. It's the only one near Boston or Providence, so it is JAMMED with happy girlfriends/fiancees/wives and unhappy men on Sundays. Several times I have had the pleasure of spending 3+ hours bumping into people and staring at laminate particle board, waiting for the ultimate pleasure of cramming said laminate particle board into my car, back to my apartment, and then getting the privilege of getting to put it all together like an erector set, then being too beat to reap the rewards of being the good boyfriend that made it all happen (if you catch my drift *wink wink nudge nudge*) +1 star for the times I DID get to reap said benefits. read more

My ideal IKEA trip is achieved by heading there solo, on a Friday evening. The crowds are minimal, parking is aplenty and the cafeteria is as quiet as can be. Eat first. You don't want hunger to distract you from optimum shopping mojo. I usually go for the Mac&Cheese and a piece of Chocolate Cake. YOLO, right? Don't forget to grab a soda glass too. Then fill it with half lingonberry juice and half Sierra Mist. You can thank me later for that delicious little tip. Now, on to the shopping. I usually head there prepared with a little list of what I really need. That way I can zip through the Showroom more efficiently and then have plenty of time to spend in the Marketplace. Be sure to grab a carriage at the bottom of the stairs. Don't forget to snap a photo of the Bin Location tags on anything you'll need to pick up in the Self-Serve section. The As-Is section at the Stoughton IKEA is dismal so I always skip it. But I NEVER skip the cinnamon buns after checkout! read more

Tried to call the store to reschedule a delivery. Was only able to get on the 1-888-888-4532 IKEA line one in five times using two different phones, the line appeared dead the other times. Once on the line, the automatic answer machine directed me to a line appeared to be for the specific store, where another answer machine gave out a set of options and only put me on hold forever without any ring tone, so play dead again. I hate this place. My husband and I went here today to look at lights for our new apartment and were completely overwhelmed by the entire fucking experience. You can't just pick up and leave unless you can tackle a salesperson (who will inevitably be more interested in telling a customer what a Kupleterger is and how it will improve their life), who may point you towards one of the "short-cuts" in the store. Otherwise, you've got to push your way through the hordes of people moving at the pace of drugged cattle to get to the exits, canvassing the entire damn place in the process. This is not good for someone like me, who has chemical sensitivities which were set off by the massive amounts of out-gassing particle board furniture that they sell there. It's ridiculous that I can't get the help I need in this store because the managers decided a meeting about busting the union was more important than customer service. How about you treat your employees with respect and dignity and don't interfere with their right to organize a union? Maybe then customer service would improve? Some people that are adrenaline junkies will jump from planes, put all their faith in an elastic band, or even scale a mountain. Me? I just go to ikea on the weekends. Trying to park is a life or death situation. It's a little bit of hunting mixed with a little bit of nascar, with just a hint of demolition derby. I mean, its a swedish store so swedish driving laws apply, right? Well that's what people think... well mostly, they think no driving laws apply as people tend to drive on whatever side of the road they feel most comfortable. Enter the store, it's like the only place in the world you'll see humans graze. they walk in packs through the carefully twisted hallways, and without a doubt, people will, always be in your way, people will always stop right in front of you, and people will always think it's your fault. When I walk through Ikea, i think I'm playing a live action game of Operation, where I am the bone stuck in the body. If i bump any other person, I'm going to explode in a violent buzz of energy, and my nose might flash. The shortcuts secretly posted throughout the store, are like my cheat codes, and get me to the exit quickly, or at least to the warehouse where I can find my boxes of painful to assemble furniture. I like their stuff, it looks classy from the outside, but on the inside it's hollow and/or pressed sawdust, just like me. read more

Because I develop a mad rash once I'm outside the city, I asked a friend to take me out here (and also because my sense of direction is total crap)..well...that never happened ;-) Yes, I have a SatNav but even with that stupid thing I still get well lost. Guess what, I drove out there and got lost...LOL!! I finally made it and this place is like a mini-city! So well layed out once you are inside, but such a massive place, I mean, all I wanted was some snuggly pillows, (I'm a sucker for the snuggly anything, me) and it took me forever to get to the snuggly pillow/bed section! I have a friend who is a wood turner and furniture maker and she said that their stuff is pretty good and lasts, I bought a sofa from here in the past and it's still going strong. If you have kiddies, there's a playground they can stay in for about an hour, it's like a little creche and it's supervised etc an added bonus if you want to get in and out fast. The staff are friendly and help you out. When you get to the checkout it can be confusing and there's always a queue it seems. The car park is pretty big so remember where you parked your car or you'll be wandering around like an idiot. I like IKEA, it has everything household related really and even if you don't buy something it's a cool way to spend the afternoon! read more

Another one-star, horrified rating for the delivery service. There is nothing wrong with the store itself -- it's quite nice in that overwhelming, maze-y kind of way. But for the love of God, do NOT use their home delivery service. Rent a truck if you have to, and pick out your stuff yourself. Trust me, it is worth the money and probably about the same price. We have been waiting three weeks now for shelves, and I have basically given up all hope of ever seeing them. Long story short, we got the wrong shelves delivered, then when they showed up with the right ones a week later, they only brought two boxes instead of four. Every time something gets messed up, it's literally hours of waiting on hold and for people to call back. They promised they'd have our order to us today between 8 and 10am. It is now 3:30pm and I am STILL WAITING. I feel like I'm in some kind of Scandinavian-themed limbo full of flat-packs and despair. I think it's called Sadsgaard or maybe Miserlig. read more

I was disappointed by the way we were treated by employees on a recent couch-shopping trip. Yes, it's crowded on a Saturday and they're probably feeling overwhelmed themselves but that's no excuse for rudeness. We were examining a sofa bed in the showroom and an employee told us we were handling it too roughly. Actually, we were just trying to see how the foldout bed part works but if folding it out is enough to break it, then we probably don't want to buy it anyway. After looking at another couch, I asked an employee if the item was available online because we needed to think about it (I'd recently tried to order an extra set of spoons online and discovered to my disappointment that the item was only available in stores). As if it should be common knowledge, he informed that he didn't work for that division so he couldn't possibly know if it was available online. "This is the store." Umm ... last I checked they're both owned by IKEA so is it too much to ask to take a few minutes to answer a basic question to help a customer make an informed decision? Alas, it is too much to ask. We left without buying a couch. read more

I visit IKEA twice or thrice a year. My experience in general has always been good. Nothing is bad about this store, at the same time nothing is out of this world. That's why the 3 stars. My only complain - actually 2 of them, are as follows: 1. The store is getting more and more all over the place recently. I understand it is the customers who basically leave the place in a mess. But in most stores you find the staff not only noticing the store getting all messed up, but they actually do something about it. More often than not i see the staff walking past mess and not doing anything about it. I sometimes let it go and not take it too seriously because I know I never trash a store. But oh well - I can go on and on about it... 2. Comes back to the staff - again - it is not a reflection of the entire staff that works here. I have come across some of the nicest people who work here who have been extremely helpful and very courteous. But then there are some bad weeds. Who give the good ones a bad name. This is just a clue for the management to be more proactive about the situation. So now I have got used to let go of the window shopping experience. I just go online before I have to go to the store, look up what I want, just go to the section where I will find it and get it all done and over with. I might change my ratings if I find the scene change in the future. Also, I mention the points above with reference to a week day when the store is virtually empty. I cannot imagine going there on a weekend when IKEA is not a store but a Zoo. OK, that would be all. Happy IKEAing. read more

The ultimate playground for adults. Money sucking machine Ikea yoooou... I've been a few times since 2007. I bought a dresser then and I love it! Huge and amazingness. The first two times one visit was on a week day and it was still busy! Now I went recently to get supplies for new new apartment and I was shocked it took us just over two hours total from parking to driving out. We were estimating three. It was mobbed per usual on a Saturday afternoon and we went in to try and bust it out. Disclaimer, remember that what your getting might night fit into your car. Good thing we called for back up because what we got was not all fitting into the Accord. I'm not sure what we would have done otherwise, ooh I don't even want to think about it. Get out of my head! So yeah, definitely be prepared for that. The self finder stuff is a little annoying and difficult, you'll want to either go in a pair or get help from someone because a lot of the stuff is positioned awkwardly on the shelves to try and pull out yourself while trying to aim it on a wheeled cart.. miiight not go so well. It's pretty inexpensive, we got two furniture pieces and kitchen items. I spent much less than what I was expecting to dish out that day and that made me happy. They have a food court that is decent. Now, I just want to go back.. I saw some cute decorative stuff so I'll have to get in there in the next month or so to get it, or maybe order online.. we'll see! Just be prepared to have patience. read more

I can't add much to the conversation, but I can say this: Bring your mother with you. Let her carry your wallet, your cash, your charge cards. Tell her to NOT let you spend more than you anticipated you would spend. My Swedish wife (not that I have an Italian wife, a Russian wife and a Sri Lankan wife) and I went to pick up some candles. Seriously. The candles that we wanted, around 3 bux a package, we were going for 3 or 4 packages, so what - 12 bucks? OK, well, the problem is, its far enough from the apt that it isn't convenient, so how often do we go? Not often. So.....a comforter, 3 pillows, a hanging lamp, a floor lamp, other candles, FOOD (love my D'aim chocolate) and literally just a few things - here and there...and then we left - laden with goodies...and POOR. IKEA is great - it is filled with fantastical items, all inexpensive, and easy enough to take home and enjoy ! read more

Ikea is great for folks who are uber self sufficient and don't need any help carrying or lifting anything. Ikea is not great for folks who may need help locating an item or lifting something. Unfortunately many of the items I'd seen in their catalogue I was unable to locate in the store, neither on the show floor or via their computers. Eventually I located some shelving I was interested in but there's no one around to help you lift anything. Not great if you have a back injury. I've given ikea many tries over the years but I believe this will be my last attempt. I realise items are cheap and they have to keep costs low to do that, but I'd rather pay more for quality service. read more

The delivery process is unbelievably ridiculous. Endless waiting times on the phone. My furniture was delivered missing items and I cannot get them on the phone. Rude on the phone, unwilling to help in any way. The worst customer service I have experienced. Stay away. read more

I like Swedish things. ABBA Those jelly fish are ok H&M That chef on the Muppets ABBA I LOVE Ikea though. Their employees are on Ikea crack; all smiley and helpful. It's weird. Their MASSIVE stores are actually pretty easy to navigate. If you want something, anything for the home they're bound to have it along with 500 other things you didn't know you needed. The machine that hands out carts is creepy but fun to watch. Tons of WTF is that? stuff Prices are dirt cheap. I came in search of a new bed. I had checked online, found what I wanted and was ready to go. Once in the store however I found a bed that was 50% less than my original choice and MUCH cooler. Thanks Ikea! Assembly wasn't that bad either, even with the creepy smiling stick figure dudes. Sadly, the store is way the eff out in the burbs and man does it feel like you've left the city. Every giant store you can think of is on the road leading up to Ikea Way (seriously). The parking lot is ginormous, requires traffic directors and yet you still somehow manage to get decent parking. They have plenty of loading spots too. My only gripe is that they're so far away :( I don't like to leave the city if I don't have to and this requires me to do so. Zipcars get 'spensive when you have to haul them out for many hours. When Somerville opens watch out, it will be on like Donkey Kong. read more

Against all advice, I visited Ikea Stoughton on a busy holiday weekend. Not only did I come out of the store alive, I also walked away happily toting bagfuls of cheap-chic treasures. Sure, the store was bumpin', but it wasn't out of control by any measure. The highlight for me? Stacks and stacks of colorful tealight candles and candle plates. A scent-lover's dream. If you haven't been yet, visit soon. You'll do a double-take everytime you look at a pricetag. Word of advice: visit their website (ikea.com) and make a "grocery list" ahead of time, or you'll be overwhelmed. Also, don't leave without grabbing a soft serve cone for a buck. Delish. read more

I am in the middle of a major kitchen remodel, largely from IKEA, and have been in there enough to know some of the "coworkers" by name. What I like: - I wouldn't have been able to do my kitchen without IKEA. Affordable, reasonably easy to figure out and install, nice design choices and plenty of encouraging reasons to believe that you can in fact "do it yourself". - Every single cabinet I have purchased was in stock & ready to take home that day. I never needed a truck, and even managed to get an entire kitchen into my, well, kitchen - without any help at all thanks to the flat packing design. I did manage to throw my back out hauling in an 80 pound & awkwardly large corner unit, but that is because I'm stupid & have no friends who like me enough to help. - As long as you are careful, you can get great quality for the price. The kitchen cabinets are made with inexpensive materials and use a thin manufactured backing, but they use quality components where they count - hinges and hardware are good stuff - some of my hardware was made in italy by ferrari! What I don't like: -IKEA is so big, and tries to do so much, that nobody knows what anyone else is doing in there - you are on your own. My first indication was when waiting for a kitchen table to arrive in stock. I kept checking online until the website indicated that the table had arrived. In the showroom, it was listed as out of stock. A coworker thought it was out of stock. i went down and looked in the warehouse anyway, and lo and behold, there it was - a fresh pallet of untouched kitchen tables. Next up - my new faucet. I wanted the cool restaurant-style pre-wash faucet from the catalog (since I'm a cool restaurant-style kinda guy). I was told that it wasn't in stock, and wouldn't be for who knows how long. I couldn't order it through the store, either. So I went home & ordered it online - no problem. HUH???? There are entire internet bulletin boards dedicated to figuring out where and when some of the popular items will be in stock. My kitchen sink was supposed to be available for pick up at the warehouse, or could be shipped for a fee. That was upstairs. Downstairs - "oh, we can get this to you UPS ground for free, it will leave in about a week and get to you in 2-3". Great! A week later, it came by next day air without any notice. With nowhere for the driver to leave it, it nearly got sent back before I even knew they were trying to deliver it. Free next day delivery is great, but it would be better if you knew it was coming. On to the countertop. 1st try: No one knew how to take the order - sorry. 2nd try: they didn't know how to price it, so told me they would get a quote from the manufacturer & call. weeks passed, I ended up being out of town for 3 weeks, and the order was canceled. 3rd try: the coworker who took my order makes "4"'s that look like "9"'s, so the manufacturer had my phone number wrong. It took nearly and hour on the phone to simply get the phone number of the manufacturer so I could deal with them directly, and finally, I'm supposed to get counters in. Hopefully the dimensions aren't a 4 where they are supposed to be a 9. - All of the staff members I have dealt with have been very friendly and tried to be helpful, but the format of the store makes it very difficult for them. I witnessed one customer go crazy trying to pick up a special order that had supposedly come in to the kitchen department, and nobody could figure out where or what she was talking about. Expect long lines at popular times. - A lot of the stuff is cheap for a reason, so be careful. While there are plenty of good values to be had, you have to wade through a minefield of cheap & poorly made stuff as well. The best bet is to avoid the least expensive options in any given area, and go for the mid-priced options at the least. And be careful on assembly - making sure connections are tight is key. (just wobble the hastily assembled floor models to see what I mean). The directions aren't always that helpful either - like my cabinet that does indeed have an UP side and DOWN side, no matter what the instructions say. (oops.) None of the bad is enough for me to consider not shopping there anymore - just be prepared to be diligent - IKEA will do right by you, but it may take awhile. Consider it an adventure. read more

I love ikea... Who doesn't really? But as I sit in their furniture pickup area for almost an hour, I am seriously pondering never returning. This, after spending 2 hours going through the store and having 2/3 of what we wanted to buy out of stock. The people who work here are all very friendly and nice. But their hands seem to be tied anytime something goes wrong. The person working in the furniture pickup dept keeps coming out telling me it's going to be a little while longer. Thank you for that, but how about just fixing the problem? I travelled here from 2 1/2 hours away. And called before I came to see if I could have exactly what I wanted set aside. Yeah, you can't do that, so thank you for giving me plenty of time to sit here and write about my horrible experience. Get your act together ikea... Bought a sofa for $589 from IKEA. No hardware, no tools, no legs in box. Call 10x and can't get through. Get through on 3rd day and they claim they are sending legs, tools, and hardware. No legs in order on email confirmation. Went to store. Legs don't come with the sofa apparently and no one thought to mention that when purchasing. Had to purchase legs. Call for tracking info on hardware. They don't provide tracking info as stated on first call apparently and will have them in 7-10 days. Get home and no tools in leg box as store staff said. Called again. Tools not being mailed either I find out as stated on first call. Had to order those as well. 13 phone calls and 2 store visits to buy a couch that I still cant use for another 7-10 days, totaling around 2 weeks best case scenario, unless of course they mess up again. Overwhelming is an absolute understatement for the Stoughton Ikea. Im from mass so Ive never been to one before! (had to try it to see what all the hype was about) 1) first big mistake, spending wayyyyy to much time in the showroom area trying to figure out where you actually get all of your ridiculous furnishings after picking them out!!!!!!! (PS if you have never been here there are papers and pencils so you can write things down which obviously I did not realize until well after an hour) 2) second big mistake not picking up a map ASAP 3) third the warehouse is enormous, you need a cart..just believe me, whatever you picked out has 3 boxes and box 1 of 3 always weighs 50 more pounds than you thought. TIPS: park on the lowever level (trust me wait for the spot!), leave open your afternoon, rushing just confuses the whole box 1 of 3 deal and attack any yellow shirt wearing Ikea employee they are happy to help. -ALSO dont wear a bright yellow shirt there, I almost started asking some random kid where the mattresses were But nonetheless, amazing prices and awesome stuff, you cant beat a complete bedroom for under a grand. You should go...its an experience, just read this first :) read more
