IKEA's self checkout is seriously the most asinine thing I've ever seen. I scanned all my items but was "randomly" selected for their supposed random cart checks. I don't think this is random at all, it feels targeted. There must be someone in a room monitoring people and selects which customers to check, I am telling you- it feels off and like they profile customers. So the guy comes over and scans a cushion that I was RETURNING. I had the receipt for it. But their ai system alerted him that that item wasn't scanned. I explained to him I'm returning that item which is why it wasn't scanned and he goes "oh okay I understand, I'll correct it" and then proceeds to literally scan my entire cart. I bought 15 little rugs from the as-is section. He re-scanned every single one. How does this make any sense to anyone with a brain???? It's insane to me that IKEA gets rid of all their checkout stands with real people, make their customers scan their own purchases and checkout on their own, then "randomly" select aka profile their customers to re-scan their entire cart and make them feel like they're dishonest. This entire process is so inefficient and backwards!! I get that people steal and will be dishonest with self checkout. Then why even offer self checkout?? And sorry but how many people are now being unmonitored and have an opportunity to "miss" scanning something while this guy is distracted re-scanning all 25 of the items I purchased? The checkout time took double the amount of time as it would have if I had just had an opportunity to checkout the good old fashioned normal way with a real human person. Honestly we love ikea, but this experience is a huge turn off. I'll just buy ikea products on Facebook marketplace and avoid this place. read more

Everyone in socal knows ikea. It's a maze, most of the furniture looks like it's made from chopped particle board, and the cafeteria swedish meatballs are decent. The furniture quality is so-so except for their highest end items. Most can be modified or strengthened easily. I've had to drill missing holes in a steel bunk bed, broken pieces, and a coffee table with a hole off by about 4inches. But there's very few places around where you can get furniture of this design for this price. Just know that you'll be replacing it in a couple years, perfect for dorms or apartments. read more

My family and I stopped by this place to pick up rolling cabinet storage. I haven't been in an ikea for many years. They definitely upped their game in the room display areas. The kids had a lot of fun playing house. This is definitely a fun and dangerous play because you can actually by almost everything there. We got the food upstairs at the food court and it was pretty good! It was good for the value for sure. We got the smoked salmon salad and all I did was add the lemon. It was perfect because the salmon was already seasoned and had a lot of flavor. The meatballs were great, you got to get a fork of the meatball, pea, mash potato, and the berry sauce. First time ever trying ikea dining and I was impressed. I went on a Tuesday which means $3.99 meals as long as you sign up for an account online. I got the chicken tenders and fries and I added on a slice of garlic bread for .79 cents. Now for the best part the slice of cake!!!! I don't even know what it is but wow the best cake I've had in a long time. You definitely cannot beat the price of the meal and it's pretty tasty. Stopped by this ikea for a quick lil snack and walk around! Ikea has such good deals, and a lot of things were on sale today when we visited :) We stopped by the food court first since we were hungry! Y'all, we got like 5 orders of the meatballs and a side of mac and cheese and it was all less than $15. That's crazy! The meatballs also tasted better than I remembered previously, so that was a plus. While walking through the showrooms, there were a lot of spaces that felt somewhat unorganized, and a lot of items were out of stock. I wish that Ikea had more colorful options for adult bedding and other adult decorative items. Most of the fun items are limited to the children's section, which isn't this location's fault at all, but I still wish there were more options! We weren't really assisted by anyone on the main floor, which is fine. The staff working at the food service section were so sweet! All in all, it was very fun and a wonderful time as always! It's a nice way to pass time (though I also feel like visiting ikea is a free pass to getting lost hehe). read more

Will never be coming back to IKEA. Made the mistake of purchasing a dresser and nightstand from IKEA. The dresser I received was defective and abysmal quality. The instructions for putting it together were abhorrent. I had multiple family members, including one that had 40+ years of experience with construction try to put it together and they all agreed the instructions were poorly written and the dresser was beyond low quality. I decided to return the dresser and was met with the most smug, nasty, attitudes from the employees at the return center, an ultimately was left with a store credit. Can't wait to be stuck with a store credit so I can find more cheap plastic cheap crap to use it on. Also, the food is worse than hospital food. read more

I was at the Ikea in Costa Mesa on 3/14/26 in the afternoon shopping for rugs, and when I was getting ready to check out, I literally got lost in the store. Then I approached an employee named Ryan Do who was busy putting merchandise away. I asked him: "How do I get out of here?" He said "oh hi, yes I'll show you, follow me this way" and led me to the exit. He took the time to explain that the red exit signs on the ceiling is to direct to another department, and the white arrows ON THE FLOOR is to point customers to the check out counter. I NEVER knew that after all these years. It is the fact that Ryan took the time to help a customer courteously, professionally and unhurriedly. If Disneyland, Ashley's Furniture, and Costco had a lovechild it'd be Ikea. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Ikea. The furniture is often cheap, lacks personality, and is never easy to put together.. but god damn are they efficient. This superstore has really cracked the code on the shopping experience. You're instantly immersed in a world of Swedish goods, with nowhere to go but to follow the red arrows on the ground. They even have a cafeteria, so you can make a whole afternoon out of the trip. I recently stopped by with my best friend in search of organizational items for our garage. The store offers anything and everything you could need for your home. I was surprised to see that they even sell plants! If you don't want to get lost in the labyrinth of people and screaming children, you can also order ahead for an easy pick up. read more

I love going with a bunch of my friends and just checking out different furniture and room set ups; super fun to just wander through the maze. Weirdly enough, what I mostly come here is for the food court! This is probably my favorite place to eat out at--literally nothing beats the price of the Swedish meatball plate and the taste is just delectable. It felt surprisingly fun and playful walking through the IKEA in Costa Mesa when I visited with someone, because even though it's a furniture store, the whole place had this lively and exciting atmosphere that teenagers would enjoy a lot, especially since I saw so many of them exploring the showrooms, laughing together, and taking pictures in the different setups. The store is huge, and every corner had something new to look at, and I really appreciated how easy it was to move at my own pace without feeling rushed, almost like wandering through a giant maze of creative ideas. I sat on a few couches and beds just to see how they felt, and it surprised me how comfortable everything was considering how affordable the items are, which makes it perfect for teenagers who love imagining what their future spaces might look like. The staged rooms felt almost like mini apartments, and even though they're meant to show off furniture, they end up being great spots for teenagers to take photos or hang out for a moment, adding to the playful vibe of the visit. I didn't expect to enjoy the experience as much as I did, but walking through the store made me feel relaxed and inspired, and I never doubted that the visit would turn out the way I hoped once I saw how many young people were having a genuinely good time there. Every time we visit an Ikea, something is new, almost always to save on time and money. I didn't live close to an IKEA in my young adulthood, but that didn't stop us from planning an entire day around visiting an IKEA, to furnish our new apartments some 30 years ago. The closest one happened to be in Schaumburg, IL, which was more than 120 miles away. It was the biggest retail store by far that we had visited, and parking on the surface lot meant remembering where you left your car. We slowly moved away from IKEA as we began to appreciate solid wood furniture, and had not visited one in many years. Since then, they have expanded into Wisconsin and other areas, but at the same time, with Amazon's leadership in making anything deliverable for reasonable cost, IKEA could not sit on their laurels. They continue to change and innovate. IKEA only sells their goods through their proprietary channels, and keep changing their models based on current trends and fashion. They have a strong website and app, and share their inventory level and location with their customers through it. My wife chose a discontinued sink base cabinet, but knew one seemed to be in stock, available (one left), and on sale in the Costa Mesa location. So we decided to stop by, and buy it if available. Unfortunately, when we asked for help, a quick walkie-talkie conversation between our helper and the warehouse stated that they didn't know where the item was, and it wasn't available. In my book, I don't expect such detailed inventory levels for a store this big, but if you offer it, it should be accurate (nothing on the website stated that it wasn't). So something to note is that if there is only one of something at IKEA, and it doesn't have a stocking location, most likely you are not going to be able to buy it. We had to pivot to a different model, which we were willing to do. One of the changes I noticed is that there were dual monitors at the help station, facing out from each other. This allowed the consultant to walk through what she was searching, and have us see exactly the items without having to look over her shoulder. My wife had done her homework, so knew what accessories were necessary. A printed receipt was given to us, and where told we would be texted once the item was ready for pick-up (it would only be pulled once we paid for the entire amount through a standard checkout line). We did just that, moved our car to a loading parking spot, and went inside to ask for our items (they will not provide curb service). They loaded three heavy boxes on a cart, and we loaded our hatchback with it (they will provide loading help if you need it). IKEA is the leader in reducing shipping cost by absolutely minimizing packing volume for all of their furniture. This makes most of their pickup-able without a truck, but also makes the packages quite heavy. Most things require at least 4 hands to move. Interestingly, this location has a very large cafe right in front (every person entering/exiting can't miss it). We went somewhere else for lunch, but noticed how they have more variety now than before. And the prices are crazy low...definite loss leaders...reminds me of what Costco does with their food items. In fact, their hot dog ($1.25) is cheaper than Costco (though Costco gives you a free drink with their combo). read more

IKEA at South Coast Plaza had clear instructions on where to park for curbside pick up. This area was away from regular parking which made it very convenient. When parked, you check in via text. let ikea know what type of car you have and what number parking slot you were at in an IKEA associate my car with my clothes rack within less than 20 minutes. A high end dollar Tree store with a bigger selection. A lot BIGGER. There is something for everyone, at a price anyone can afford. They even have child care while you follow the arrows and get lost in the maze of "stuff". They are really good for college kids and people on a budget but be prepared to spend hours putting particle board together for hours :) They do have lots of cool little decorative things to put around the house. My only complaint is everything has somewhat of a cheap look to it. It always looks really nice in the store but In my house never seems to have that quality look and feel. The food is ok but pretty cool they have a cafe here. And some of the food and candy is pretty awesome like the chocolate bars! The meatballs are a big hit with my kids. The people are all pretty helpful since most of the time here you are lost in a maze or lost in the warehouse trying to see if it's in one or two boxes lol. Going here is like an adventure. Not sure who's bright idea it was to stop here on a road trip but we did. We walked through the doors and we were instantly turned around and were lost among the various decorative rooms. We wandered for what seemed like minutes (ended up being over an hour). Marveling at the selection of items for sale as each area gives you ideas to help in your home. We stumbled on a restaurant here which I thought was cool for all the people who can't find the exit and need food and water. The prices were very fair and tempting but I controlled myself pretty well and didn't pick up anything. Good thing because I am not sure how checking out works here and I was just lucky to find the exit. And our car was filled with luggage. All in all I took a lot of pictures of what I want to buy and will visit their website after I post this review. I recommend this place but bring a truck and something to mark your trail so you can find your way out. read more

I purchased a $500 stand for my son's bedroom. The item was delivered to the wrong address. I'm grateful the people that live there looked on the bill of lading and saw my son's phone number and called him to let him know. Im a 62-year-old woman who uses a cane. I had to leave work early when he called me because he could not get away and come home so I live close by and left work early and started knocking on strangers doors to find someone that could carry the boxes down the stairs to put into my car, which was extremely frustrating my son then left work early so he could come home and carry all the boxes upstairs to our apartment . I called IKEA to explain what happened in the frustration I had to go through they gave me back my delivery fee. I told him I wanted to be compensated for the time and all the frustration that I had to go through and I wanted partial amount credited back to my credit card. I got an email back asking if everything was OK or if I just needed an Allen wrench. I called back and said this is the case number and this is what I said. She then proceeded to tell me that nothing like that was ever written down. So now I have said the whole story over again relive the frustration and told her I want X amount credited back to my credit card for my inconvenience. She said that she would escalate that I took another casework number down. I waited five days. I received an email that said we've been trying to get a hold of you but your information you provided us is wrong. I call and each time I call the resolution department you get a different person. This gentleman was very kind and I gave him the case number he read it and he said you got your delivery feedback and I said I understand that that's not what I'm asking for he says there's a $50 gift card and I asked why would I want a $50 gift card I will never come back to IKEA with the mess that I have been through. He then took down my information and what I was asking for and the frustration of the three different people that I have been shifted to that don't know their right arm from their left arm. I also asked him about the email I received, saying that they tried to get a hold of me, but my information was incorrect. He had the correct information he told me it was a generic email that goes out to get you to call them. I said why not just rephrase it and say could you please contact us. I just called back because I got an email asking me if everything was OK or if I just needed an Allen wrench and the lady said that there's nothing they can do. The people in the back is what they call them but you can not talk with them said they cannot partially give anything back and I got my delivery fee and that is how they run their business. I think it's a shame that you can't talk to the people making the decisions they call them the back room people they just send back their response and then that poor person on the phone has to deal with you. There's no one else you can talk to you. You can't go higher up. That is a really bad way to run your business and I understand why you're only a two star stay away from IKEA such bad customer service they could've made this right because you can always make it right when your company has done something wrong. read more

Durable, affordable, and somehow easy to setup are my 3 words to describe IKEA. I bought the Soderhamn sofa set, Lunnarp coffee table and Skuldelev rug for my living room. It was like my DIY project last week, it took me a while to assemble all the sofa and table together. The instructions are simple and easy to follow but a bit time consuming to figure out what is what. The prices have gone up a bit compared to previous 2-3 years ago but that's pandemic and inflation so can't complain about it. Don't miss out on the food court , great prices and good food, I got Plant Balls with a side of mashed potatoes and also asked for dressing on side- first thing I think they pour too much dressing on the food and second I wasn't sure I'm going to like it, but it was tasty. And I think they have some $2 veggie hot dog and regular hot-dog near the checkout out section. Ice-cream is a must while you're visiting and checking the showrooms. I should also thank Synclair in the delivery section who helped me load my bar, it was almost 9:00 p.m. and they were closing, some parts didn't fit in my car so she suggested to keep them in IKEA and pick the rest up tomorrow. Did you know: IKEA serves breakfast from 9:30am - 11 am? (You're welcome.) IKEA has been lowkey improving their food cafeteria game over the years. TIL that IKEA served breakfast items: simple scrambled eggs, bacon, and swedish pancakes which resemble crepes. They come in two sizes, small and medium and I stuck with my usual Swedish meatballs (8pc $9.99) but instead of the smoked salmon, I tried the Skagen (tiny shrimp in dill yogurt sauce on a bed of greens sandwiches between a cold croissant. Bang for your buck with plenty of seating during lunch time. Beware: take a wrong turn and you'll end up getting lost in the maze. I haven't been to this IKEA in ages - well, any IKEA for that matter. I think something in my mind always conjures up the long maze that you have to go through in order to get to what you really want to buy. Of course - that's the fun part of going to IKEA. Now that I have a bit more time this week, I figured I'd check it out - you know, go through the maze that starts on the second floor, leading you through different parts of a model home while showcasing different types of furniture all from dirt cheap prices ($10 for a hanging shelf) to triple digit pieces ($528 for a nice dresser). It was great to get all sorts of interior design ideas going through each of the different showroom setups. The crowd wasn't too bad considering it was a Friday afternoon. They do have "shortcuts" that you can take to skip through parts of the maze - or, if you already know what you want, you can bypass the second floor altogether and pickup the products on the first floor. I really like being able to see the assembled product in person though, versus their app or website, before purchasing. Food: The IKEA restaurant (with their famous swedish meatballs) is on the second floor, while the Swedish market is on their first floor, right after the checkout lanes. The IKEA Family (their free rewards program) is discontinuing their 5% off benefit as of February 1st, 2024, so take advantage sooner if you were thinking of getting furniture and want to sorta offset CA sales tax. Service was non-existent - but that's partly why the prices are so low here, everything is mostly self-service. The staff mostly leave you alone here - in fact, the only interaction I had with any customer service reps was at self-checkout, when the machine "randomly selected" me for "additional verification". Parking is easy - I know people complain about the parking, but my favorite place to park is on the side, right by Susan Street/405 NB exit to Susan St. It's a bit further of a walk than the lot right in front of IKEA, but it's less crowded, there's a cart return corral, and the entire path from entrance to the side parking is paved, with those safety barriers so you don't risk getting run over by drivers. read more
