Last Tuesday I visited the Los Angeles location of HD Buttercup. Knowing this location was going to be closing soon with "up to 75% off" I thought it would be interesting to see what's left. Turns out there is A LOT left yet not at the sale prices I was hoping for. Many large items - even at 75% off still priced well above $1,000 per piece. Not staged as beautifully as their LA location for good reason. I will say - as far as store closings go - there wasn't a ridiculous amount of damaged pieces still unreasonably priced like at RH Outlet. Great care is still being taken. Staff is still attentive and welcoming. Place is clean and inspiring. 4 stars for the pricing. Sooo expensive. For these prices, I would rather find a local custom upholsterer for half the price. read more

They are having liquidation sale up to 25-75% the entire store. They have a lot of furnitures and the staffs here are very helpful. I would say compare to other HD Buttercup stores, this location offers better price. Furthermore, they wrap your item very careful before taking off from the store. If you want delivery, it would be $200 through the third party. read more

I bought a bed frame and a couch for my master bedroom. The couch arrived dirty and one of the arms broken. They delivered half the bed frame, and they are not answering my phone calls or calling me back about the rest of my bed frame. Their customer service and delivery service is one of the worst that I've ever dealt with! read more

Wow. This place is a joke. To start, prices are INSANE for the quality of product. They have a mixture of Raymore Flannigan junk mixed in with some wish they could be RH stuff. We ordered some travertine end tables and a console from online plus a rug. Shipping to us was $600!!! I called to get a discount on pricing to compensate for the shipping. Fortunately that happened, so thank you Brittany for that. That's where the positives stopped. It took over 10 business days for our 5 items to actually leave their warehouse. 10 BUSINESS days. I mean WOW. could you possibly have that many orders that it takes that long??? End to end, it took over a month since day of order placement to arriving at my front door and most of it was because I had to take control and manage the shipping companies. Another issue is they have ONE customer service employee. That's right, ONE. You call and this person has no concept of the items other than the online description, which obv you have access too also. So if you need a color confirmation, they cannot help you. This place charges like they are RH, but is run like a toddler is in charge. I am so beyond disappointed with the customer service and overall experience. I will NEVER deal with this company again. And finally, I live in NJ. I was in Cali for work and stopped at the outlet since it was near my hotel. This was before my items arrived on their 5-6 week journey to my house. The outlet is more like a dumpster. Nothing is in order, the items all have crazy price tags and are literally HomeSense quality furniture. Idk how this place is still in business. One last thing. Take notice that their website has ZERO customer reviews on it. The only place you can find a review about this company is YELP. They are hiding customer feedback on their products for a reason. Look at their competitors: CB2, Crate & Barrell, West elm. All these places show reviews on their site. The good and the bad. This shows honesty and customer openness. HD buttercup needs to hire new upper management or this place will be sure to fail in due time. I was incredibly impressed with the whole vibe of this location of HD in particular! We have shopped at both this and the culver location, and even though this was an outlet, it was really, really great. Everything was very clean and organized, and Alan Cole, especially, was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond for us. He was friendly and provided fantastic customer service without being overbearing. Great quality furniture and great deals to be had. Looking forward to our next design project where we can create more magic with the amazing items we got here! Also, the playlist / music in the store was straight fire!! Can't wait to come back. So this location is closing and I stopped in to check out some full length mirrors. Honestly, I have no idea who in their right mind would shop here. A lot of their items are super gaudy. I walked around for a bit but left unimpressed. I hope the next store that takes over HD Buttercup has more success. New and improved! I was in the area and decided to stop by this outlet after not seeing it for a few years, and I was pleasantly surprised. The entire store has been revamped and reorganized. Think high-end store but with big discounts! They had everything from a leather sofa section, office furniture, a ton of lighting to choose from, and some really cool one-of-a-kind pieces. Lots of really nice outdoor furniture as well. Will definitely come back to furnish the rest of my house. And the people at the front register were super sweet and offered me coffee :) read more

I purchased 2 outdoor chairs from them. I went to the store and sat in them. They were super comfortable. Had them delivered and they were so hard they were like rocks sitting on them. Contacted their awful customer service. By the time they got back to me I had already ordered new inserts for them. When my upholster opened them up they were a piece of the cheapest foam he had ever seen. This was for sure not the same as I sat on. Don't waste your time with this store. It is awful with cheap products for a lot of money. Awful read more

Update: still the worst customer service I have ever experienced in any industry. My delivery time changed NINE TIMES, They called me at 10:00am asking if they can deliver within an hour. I said that's fine. 2 hours later, no furniture. Was told 5 more times throughout the day that it would be arriving within an hour. Still no furniture. They just called again saying it will be there within an hour (3:00pm). To confirm I called the store and they said 2 hours. Then the website "tracking" information was changed a couple of times on top of this. No accuracy. They don't deserve to be in business if they cannot even provide simple customer service. It's really not a shock why this location is closing. This store and their employees have officially given up and I don't blame them. Stumbled into this store yesterday when trying to go to TPT Home, and realizing it was out of business. We walked around this store, and there were many employees at each "station", chatting and just sort of watching people walk around. We were never greeted, never asked if we needed any help, absolutely no communication... just kind of watched as we walked around. There is a lot of neat and different furniture in this store. Most of it reminds me of furniture that you would use on display and not for actual use. Nothing looked like it was built for comfort. Unusual, decorative furniture. One look at the price tags, and my jaw hit the floor. Outrageously expensive. Definitely an interesting walk around the store, killed some time, but I dont need to return. read more

On our way back from the LA Car Show we stopped into South Coast Collection plaza to look at some kitchen designs and saw that HD Buttercup had opened up there. I have heard of them in the Los Angeles area, but just never made it there so we stopped in to check them out. HD Buttercup is designer nirvana. There are so many unique and one of a kind items here, as well as stock pieces, that I don't know where to start. So I guess I am just going to tell you that if you are in the area this is a must stop. I bought a live edge dinner table that is STUNNING, brought it home and put the dining chairs I had designed around the table and it's perfection in our home. I also bought a couple of pieces for when we entertain and now I can't wait to have a party to use them. The staff here is AWESOME, Monica was our sales person and she is a gem. She even came in on her day off to make sure that our table was wrapped correctly and loaded into the truck. This place is so awesome, I have been here twice in less that 5 days. Also make sure you check out their amazing wallpaper collection. They have some very unique designs and can really change up the tone of room. There is a HUGE rug collection in the back of the store, make sure you check it out. I do have one complaint about this store, and it's a big one THEY AREN'T IN SAN DIEGO... pleeaasssssse come to SD. Like other people mentioned, this place is like going treasure hunt. Sometimes you go and leave with nothing, other days you casually stop by and find amazing stuff. My recommendation is go there without expectation and you may be pleasantly surprised. Their delivery service is very good and worth $200. I decided to stop by and check it out, at first I was overwhelmed but a sales girl named Yvonne approached, greeted, smile, and assisted me. The reason why I give this store 5 stars is because of Yvonne. She helped me find the perfect sectional and console. Like she read my mind and knew what I need. The whole process was simple and easy that I had the furniture in my new place within 3 days! I am definitely going to stop by again because there are many great furniture selection and customer care was on point. Walked in and as many have said, all of the employees are sitting around chatting. We had to walk and look for help. Nice selection of furniture. We found a table we liked and wanted to purchase it. Of course it was one of the few without a discount tag on it. We tried to negotiate but were told "it could not be discounted because it was a brand new item." WE ordered it and paid. When the table arrived my wife found a MASSIVE crack in the table, almost through and through running the entire length of the table top. The driver said that he usually inspects them before delivery but was told not to open it. My wife called and the salesperson said "are you sure it's just not a cosmetic blemish?" My wife said it was cracked and we wanted a replacement. The salesman demanded photos. (see below). He said that there were none in the warehouse and they could not order one. (So much for this being a brand new item). He did not say he was sorry. He did not try to help. He did not offer options. My wife refused the delivery and put in a disputed charge report with the credit card company. We NEVER got a call back from the store or any communication after this. This is terrible customer service and I would never recommend them. This stuff never happened with Room & Board or Restoration Hardware. I've been to this store twice over the last few years. Oddly, it's been closing each time I visit. Wish they'd do this shopping center a favor and actually just close already. The store is in disarray, no rhyme or reason to layout, many pieces damaged, dark and musty smell throughout store. Save yourself the time and skip this location. read more

What a great experience!! I moved to a small apartment in the So Bay and have been searching for just the right dining room table/chairs. I found the table I wanted several months back at HD Buttercup, but it was out of my price range at the time (and I hadn't even looked at chairs!). I returned to the store recently to 'dream' and my table was on sale! Even better, I found beautiful chairs, too! As I walked around the store, I was greeted by several employees in the different areas. After an hour of perusing, I stopped a young man to ask for help. He spent time with me trying to figure out the best way to furnish my small space. I hadn't gone back to the original table because I knew the cost. We looked at several others and we ended up with the table I saw months ago. That's when I discovered it was on sale! AND it turns out, I was working with the General Manager, Harout (I apologize if I have misspelled his name!). He helped me with moving around chairs so I could see the different combinations. He was patient and we even consulted with one of the designers, Rosendo, who was also very helpful and kind! The delivery fee is a bit steep, but my purchase was delivered four days later so no complaints there! I LOVE this store and can't wait to return when I'm ready for my new couch (hopefully by year end!). Thank you, Harout and Rosendo for outstanding service!!! read more

So disappointed in this location. I came in the store around 2:00 pm on a weekday. It was not crowded at all but have multiple employees throughout the store. Not one single employee greeted me or asked if I needed any help. Some even looked at me but did not acknowledge that I was shopping. I'd have to give the service here a zero that's why I'm rating only 2/5 because I do love their products. I honestly love HD buttercup. They have an amazing selection of furniture, lighting and everything you need for your home. As a customer I spend a lot of time and money on furniture and it's unfortunate that this location lost a customer due to lack of service. I'd rather go to the one in LA or one of the other stores in the SOCO area as they always were helpful. read more

It is unfortunate that this store location has closed down along with their indoor shared space, so Timothy Oulton had to go as well. Timothy Oulton had maybe a couple furniture items that fit what I was looking for. Albeit pricey, several thousand for each item, even at the discounted price, but well worth it. The quality really is there when they put the craftsmanship in, not cheap junk you would throw away and replace every few years. This furniture lasts because it's made with solid wood and workmanship. Other items like their crystal chandelier lamps, which was also several grand are over priced but they look amazing in a corner and are versatile for the many configurations you can rearrange to. Get two to complete the look. You will know what I mean if you bought one. The white glove delivery was flat rate, so buy what you want and they will bring it. What did not do it for me was the customer service at HD Buttercup was significantly lacking. Possibly affected by the news of closing down, their morale took a huge hit. They have nice merchandise, but I am sure they would have done a lot better, or survived at this location for that matter, had there been better customer service. Things like greeting customers when they enter, asking them if they needed help looking for something, helping them carry out items they just purchased, etc. read more

Going to SOCO always makes me wish I had an abundance of space in the house, and an abundance of cash in the bank account. Stuff is expensive, but it's all so pretty to look at. HD Buttercup just reaffirms this for me, but I love walking around to get inspiration for different areas of my living space. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by large chandeliers down a carpeted walkway with staged rooms lining the path. Think about going to an IKEA showroom and seeing furniture and accessories strategically displayed to show their versatility in a room - it's kinda like that, but the pieces are made of real materials and everything has an extra 0 at the end of the price before the decimal point. Again, it sure is pretty to look at. The space is huge and if you're really looking for a unique piece to bring a room together, I'm sure you can find it here. They have everything from textiles to wallpaper, art pieces to bed frames. Everything was engineered beautifully and each item was sturdy. You definitely get what you pay for. Though it's not a place where you'd shop everyday, it's fun to check out if you need to breathe some new life into your current home. It's great to get ideas of what's popular and because the place is so large, you get a bunch of different tastes and aesthetics depending on what your decor flavor may be. The staff is nice and nobody pushes you into a sale, in fact, they pretty much leave you alone until you ask them a question. They have designers on-site that can help you plan a space to your liking. Next time I'm at the OC Mart Mix or perusing the farmers' market, I'll definitely drop in to see what new layouts they have! read more

HD B is the place to go for anyone who thinks outside of design box. I wanted a beautiful sectional couch, where exquisite fabric meets comfort and style, and I found it here. The showroom is magnificent, huge but not overwhelming, as the spacing is expertly crafted. It's such a great place ever just to get interior design inspiration, and an ideal place to bring clients. Another thing I love is there is zero pressure by anyone working there. Most of the staff are professional designers, so they are really able to work with your vision and bring it to life. There's so many gorgeous accessories too! I went in 2 weeks ago to do some prelim shopping, and going back today to purchase was a breeze. Can't wait for my delivery Friday! I'd only been to the LA location, which is beautiful and well curated, so I expected the same from this store. Not so much...I'm a designer and I brought my client here to look for furniture and was actually quite embarrassed. We got there right at 10am when they open and had to wait 5 minutes until an employee lazily opened the doors for us. Customer service overall was poor, most employees seemed lazy and bored. This seemed more like a giant discount warehouse. There wasn't any rhyme or reason to the way furniture was displayed. There wasn't a clear path to walk through in several areas, so many of the casegoods were damaged or had other things piled on top of them. The store was an absolute disaster! They have such cool art, furniture and lighting but it was too hard to to really see any of it. I won't be back to this location. I was so disappointed and decided not to charge my client for the hour that we were there, it was a complete WASTE of time. read more

Apparently the employees at HD buttercup don't like to make sales. I walked around the warehouse for a good 45 mins. There was a large group of employees just kickin back on the furniture and at the desks. Not a single one even looked in my direction so much as asked if I needed help. I happened to find something I liked. I walked to the desk to ask for assistance and was passed off down the line until a woman begrudgingly decided to help. I asked for a tear sheet for a particular couch. She said "oh we don't really have those here". Really?! You don't have tear sheets? At a furniture store? Any printed info about this $4500 sofa I am interested in buying?? No. "I mean it's all online", she said. No sh*t huh. So I press for a tear sheet because my phone is dead and I can't look the couch up myself since this salesperson is useless. She enlists who I think was a warehouse guy to "create" a tear sheet. Took him 40 minutes to figure out how to print out fuzzy graphics of the sofa with the sofas details. They were admittedly horrible "tear sheets". I won't fault him tooo much because he was very nice and apologetic. However, the info he gave me was incorrect. Couldn't find the sofa on their website, decided to do some googling, can't find the sofa anywhere...and my exes can attest that I am a fairly competent online sleuth. So like I said, these guys must really dislike making sales. I WANTED to spend my money, I TRIED to spend my money here, but the salespeople made it an impossible task. It's too bad because they have some great, unique pieces. read more

This is a review for HD Buttercup's non-existent customer service, lack of responsibility and business ethics. Do not purchase from them, they don't stand by their own product they're charging thousands of dollars for. I had purchased a wooden dining table during their sale in July and within months (less than 5 months!) of minimal use, the wooden table started splitting and cracks were forming in several places. The table was being used as a desk and was kept in a pristine condition. I was so surprised to find it in such bad condition (I am certain the problem would have been discovered much sooner if it was not covered under a tablecloth.). Through research, I've discovered cracks and splits are due to manufacturer defect. I had notified the customer service Dept via email, but first they tried to brush me off by insisting it was a sale merchandise and they are not responsible. The second time I contacted them, I was told to send photos of damages. I had forwarded 10 photos and a diagram with extensive explanation to them, only to be told they will issue an estimate for repairs for me to pay. I had contacted them again afterwards several times, but now I'm being completely ignored and the splits and cracks on the dining table is getting deeper and worse. It is now days away from literally falling apart. What kind of wooden furniture splits and cracks all over the place as this one? I've purchased from other reputable furniture brands, but this is the first time something like this has ever happened to me. I wish I had never purchased from this place. I'm stuck with a broken table that I've paid hundreds of dollars and the business refuses to take any ownership/responsibilities of their own manufacturer defect. read more

THE WORST customer service ever! We went there twice because our furnitures didn't get to deliver to us and they were still in store on the floor the second we went there. Huruit from HDB did not follow up and put our extra order on the same invoice as previous order ( We actually went back into the store because he sent a confirmation for only the two items , trusted him to get it right my mistake ... well he did not follow up with the delivery ! told me I had to wait for a call .. that call came at 315 pm ( over 3 hrs from first delivery) That guy name is hector ( in charge delivery service ) said he would have delivered 4-6 !!!and would call his guy right away well I sent out multiple text and phone calls to both and at 615 pm I received a call from delivery that they were in Santa Monica had to got to Cerritos and pick up stools!!! So hector never contacted delivery as he said he would at 315 pm .. guy said he got call after 5!
