I'm writing to share a very disappointing experience I had at the Costa Mesa, CA location this evening (around 5:30-6:30pm on Friday October 10th, 2025) regarding a sofa that was part of the "Last Chance" sale. On the showroom floor, the sofa was listed at $575 ($500 for the sofa and $75 for the cover). I confirmed with an employee that the store had one sofa in stock and plenty of covers available. She and I even discussed possibly buying an extra cover since they had so many in stock and the sofa was being discontinued so I wouldn't be able to buy one later if I needed a replacement. Based on that information, I proceeded to checkout and paid for both items. However, when I went to the pickup area, I was told that while the sofa was available, the cover I had paid for was actually out of stock. I was offered a different color cover instead, and I was initially told it was the same price. Later, after my return for the original cover was processed and I was buying the color I didn't really want, I was informed that this alternate cover was actually $175, not $75. Who in their right mind is going to pay $100 more for a cover they didn't even want in the first place?! I would have settled on it if it was the same price because it was a good deal. But are they seriously thinking I would pay MORE for it? When I asked if the store could match the original cover's price, ship me the cover I originally wanted, or check other stores for availability, I was told none of that was possible. The manager was extremely unhelpful and said my only options were to purchase the unwanted cover at the higher price or return the entire sofa. This was especially frustrating because this was a Last Chance sale -- meaning the sofa is being discontinued and will no longer be sold. If that's the case, it makes no sense that the store would refuse to honor the original cover's price for a different color (that I didn't even really want to begin with) particularly after I was told by an employee they were the same price. If the sofa is discontinued, what will the store even do with the remaining covers? It seems like a very simple and reasonable accommodation that could have turned this situation into a positive customer experience instead of a negative one. Ultimately, I had to return the sofa altogether. The way the situation was handled made it even worse -- neither the original associate nor the manager came back to speak with me (a bit unprofessional and cowardly if you ask me) Instead, another employee was sent to process my return while I was visibly upset and in tears. I left the store feeling dismissed, misled, and very disappointed. I had been excited about this purchase, but the lack of flexibility and accountability from the staff completely ruined the experience. I would appreciate it if someone could review this incident and address both the communication and customer service issues that occurred. I'd also like clarification on why the store could not honor the original price for the alternate cover -- especially when the error was not mine and the product line is being discontinued. Not confident I will get any of that though after the way they seem to treat their customers. What a nightmare. I'm still sad about it honestly. read more

I know everyone always wants to get the Swedish meatballs in the restaurant BUT....DO NOT SLEEP ON THE HOT DOGS DOWNSTAIRS after you've spent hundreds on furniture. I ordered a plant based dog and veggie dog which came out to $1.45. CRAZY! It was honestly delicious with the honey mustard. I will certainly get this everytime now. They're not as big as the Costco dogs but honestly they're a great little snack. Shoot even if you get 4 or 5 for lunch it's a good deal. Service was generally pretty fast but my veggie took a little bit longer since it was being baked. If you get the cinnamon roll, it's self serve. I definitely want to try that next or the pretzel. read more

If any ikea management is watching this, I'm stalking the as is section for an upplaga bowl pretty please please. (Jkjk). Came here to walk around, they seem to have added a lot more patio furniture options. Their as is section is full of tables at the moment and they've gotten nicer by returning the free hardware and selling various scrap wood/parts. ( remember when the hardware used to be organized in little shelves after the check out?) Today's ice cream seems shorter but still hit. Forever the struggle to finish fast to hold something in your hand or to take your time and hope that you can find it again later. Also they have weekly deals now at the restaraunt and keep it a secret but Tuesdays seem the best wink wink. Also I really like their strawberry soft serve but seemed they were out of it today. read more

Once you learn that this is a store where you can just grab n' go in the warehouse with a little help from employees on where it is, then it all makes sense. I love that they have self service kiosks throughout the store with tape measures attached on the sides. Along with the app it makes for an easier way to maneuver creating the home you want. There is always a yellow shirt around to ask for help. And they usually know where it is and how to get there through the shortcuts. The restaurant with all its deals is amazing. I prefer the plant based meatballs. And I love how affordable a meal is there. That way I can stretch my budget and get that pillow I thought was cute. I think the restaurant workers do a great job. They are always under a lot of stress and they handle it pretty well. The crowds can be huge on the weekends. There is also a place to buy packaged food down by the ice cream and cinnamon rolls after the registers. You can purchase the dogs, ice cream and cinnamon rolls ahead of time when you are cashing out. Such a convenience! The store has a cool bunch of showrooms throughout the 2nd floor. It helps you to give you an idea of how you would set up your space. There is a new showroom with a setup for an ADU that I think is beautiful and definitely something people should check out. Did I mention they even have childcare? For just a little while they watch your Littles, the ones not in diapers, etc..so you can decide on a new bed or sofa or just enjoy a cinnamon roll by yourself for a minute. Another plus is the eco friendly part of the place. You can leave cardboard in the bins outside and the have reuable.totes and their items come with the least amount of plastic and waste I know of. After I wander a bit, my favorite part is the as-is section. Right near the cash registers. They have the coolest finds and best deals. Just got some cool little pillows for lounging, upstairs in a bin, along with some curtains in the as-is area to update my living room. It's an ikea, nothing more to say other than it's large with a large selection. Sometimes it's difficult to find someone to help you, but when you do, the staff is friendly. The food court is different. Staff is not so friendly and wants to get out of here (I don't blame them). Ordered two soft serves bc that's all they had left. She had it sitting on the counter for someone else, but they didn't show up, so she called our order and wanted to give me those. But they already started to melt and asked for a different one. She'd rather argue with me and go back and forth, than to just trash it and give me new ones. I'm watching her the whole time. Don't sell ice cream if u can't handle the heat. read more

I was at the Ikea in Costa Mesa on 3/14/26 in the afternoon shopping for rugs, and when I was getting ready to check out, I literally got lost in the store. Then I approached an employee named Ryan Do who was busy putting merchandise away. I asked him: "How do I get out of here?" He said "oh hi, yes I'll show you, follow me this way" and led me to the exit. He took the time to explain that the red exit signs on the ceiling is to direct to another department, and the white arrows ON THE FLOOR is to point customers to the check out counter. I NEVER knew that after all these years. It is the fact that Ryan took the time to help a customer courteously, professionally and unhurriedly. It's been such a long time since the last time that I was here. Some improvements that I noticed today, like the shaded parking lot lol (Who knows how long that's been there lol), electric car's charging stations, and a Swedish restaurant inside too?! New to me. Still, great place to have your coffee and enjoy walking around, taking your time, checking out some cool designs for the house. We did walk out with three new pillows and some closet smelling good things lol. They do have stations around the walking path if you just want to search for a specific item. We saw a few associates busy with customers, they seemed pretty engaging and trying to help. When it comes to value, some things are cheap and some others are not. Some materials feel cheap and some others feel of good quality. At least it is what I believe. Make sure you have an idea of what you want, because if not, you can either walk out with nothing, or walk out with a whole bunch of stuff lol! read more

Bought a kids bed here and the materials came in 3 boxes. However, they neglect to indicate that you also need to purchase 2 additional items to make the bed - a center slat and a set of wooded bed slats. That's an extra $15 + $50 in hidden costs. The worst part is that the instructions assume you have these items, so I was confused why I couldn't find the missing parts. So had to drive back to ikea to purchase. It's been awhile and today's trip to IKEA was a pleasant one with the grandkids. School is out and what a great way to start the summer by getting ideas from the IKEA store and it's decorating displays. It is a long winding road as you peruse thru each section of the huge store. I am still amazed at all the things you can get at IKEA; from kitchen brushes to outdoor furnishings to bedroom sleeping needs. It is there for you and the big decision wether it is a Want or a Need. But we were there to browse and perhaps get some good ideas for decor of an extra room. Ok then, taking pictures of the products along the way gives you a big hint as to the price and ofcourse the storage location...just in case, because trust me it is a long walk and you won't find it a second time. We did pick up a bathroom rug and now it is the self checkout. Convenient and of course right by the exit and the market in case you want the Swedish Meatballs to take home. This is probably one of the nicer IKEAs I have been to. Not much to say about it, other than they have a good selection and the workers are friendly. And this day and age I really don't see me buying heirloom quality furniture anymore. We move so often that is a hassle to buy really heavy furniture, and it makes more sense just to toss and rebuy furniture. The furniture looks good, and functions good enough. I highly recommend using the click and collect functionality. I came here wants to grab an item that was supposed to be in stock, but I ended up buying the display model since that was all they had. They have EV charging stations in front, and it looks like a Tesla supercharger is opening up across the street. You should definitely sign up for IKEA family to get discounts and freebies on your birthday. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with IKEA. Their products can be a hit or miss, but their prices are reasonable for what you get. I recommend to join their club so that you can keep an eye on potential deals for any furniture you may be eyeing. They have a cafe which is pretty cheap and convenient. I recommend trying their combo vanilla and strawberry ice cream because it is a light tasty snack after walking around the whole store. The strawberry tends to be a bit sweet but with the vanilla it gets toned down a bit. Workers are nice and helpful overall. Just don't go shopping during the last opening hours of the store lol. read more

Not to be a Karen, but I had such a negative experience with the customer service team today at Exchanges & Returns. When I arrived, I checked in at the kiosk and waited in the virtual queue. I had already prepared my return barcode ahead of time, hoping that this would ease the process. My name was called after a few minutes by a female employee. There were multiple staff members, but the two ladies on the team were at a register at the end. Both had customers so I was confused, but I asked if they had called my name. One let me know that they were helping another customer (totally understandable), while the other said, "Yeah, there's two of you guys and it's not your turn," with a ton of attitude. I was returning some large items so I was frustrated that I had walked across the waiting area unnecessarily first and foremost, but secondly why be rude to your customers? When it was my turn, I walked up to the counter to confirm that I was correctly called. I was helped by the first female employee (the one who had politely shared that she had been helping another customer), but was surprised how she treated me also! I didn't have the card I had paid with and she said I would only be able to get store credit because she didn't have my receipt (only my return barcode). I obviously had the receipt (how would I have generated the return barcode?) and as I pulled it up I realized that I had probably used Afterpay. She didn't seem to believe me at first until I showed her that I had done an instore Apple Pay payment using Afterpay. From there it was fine, but man, it makes me not want to shop here! Why join the "family" if everyone who is supposed to welcome you is rude? Thank you for coming to my rant and hope you have a better experience than I did! read more

Decided to drop by IKEA for the afternoon just to look around, and overall had a pleasant experience! There's a restaurant upstairs and a smaller food court downstairs. The store was clean and organized overall, and I was able to find many household essentials for a reasonable price. The store is divided into many sections, ranging from kitchen and tableware to plants. The items have lots of options to choose from. Food- The chicken tenders and fries were cooked well and tasty! The vegetables were not seasoned well at all however. I enjoyed the plant balls, though they were a bit too soft for my liking. Overall, I would recommend checking out the restaurant and food court items at least once just to get the full IKEA experience! read more

This review is specifically about the cafe. We came in on a Sunday afternoon around 3 and they were already out of salmon and had no other gluten free options. They already never have any gf desserts and when they run out of their only gf entree the only remaining options are salad and soup. The staff were all incredibly rude and completely indifferent to my dietary restrictions, not even trying to be helpful or to have any knowledge of any of the food items. After much scrolling and clicking I was able to confirm the soup was gf so I had that and it was good. Coffee used to be amazing with their proprietary half and half but now it's barely average. I purchased a $500 stand for my son's bedroom. The item was delivered to the wrong address. I'm grateful the people that live there looked on the bill of lading and saw my son's phone number and called him to let him know. Im a 62-year-old woman who uses a cane. I had to leave work early when he called me because he could not get away and come home so I live close by and left work early and started knocking on strangers doors to find someone that could carry the boxes down the stairs to put into my car, which was extremely frustrating my son then left work early so he could come home and carry all the boxes upstairs to our apartment . I called IKEA to explain what happened in the frustration I had to go through they gave me back my delivery fee. I told him I wanted to be compensated for the time and all the frustration that I had to go through and I wanted partial amount credited back to my credit card. I got an email back asking if everything was OK or if I just needed an Allen wrench. I called back and said this is the case number and this is what I said. She then proceeded to tell me that nothing like that was ever written down. So now I have said the whole story over again relive the frustration and told her I want X amount credited back to my credit card for my inconvenience. She said that she would escalate that I took another casework number down. I waited five days. I received an email that said we've been trying to get a hold of you but your information you provided us is wrong. I call and each time I call the resolution department you get a different person. This gentleman was very kind and I gave him the case number he read it and he said you got your delivery feedback and I said I understand that that's not what I'm asking for he says there's a $50 gift card and I asked why would I want a $50 gift card I will never come back to IKEA with the mess that I have been through. He then took down my information and what I was asking for and the frustration of the three different people that I have been shifted to that don't know their right arm from their left arm. I also asked him about the email I received, saying that they tried to get a hold of me, but my information was incorrect. He had the correct information he told me it was a generic email that goes out to get you to call them. I said why not just rephrase it and say could you please contact us. I just called back because I got an email asking me if everything was OK or if I just needed an Allen wrench and the lady said that there's nothing they can do. The people in the back is what they call them but you can not talk with them said they cannot partially give anything back and I got my delivery fee and that is how they run their business. I think it's a shame that you can't talk to the people making the decisions they call them the back room people they just send back their response and then that poor person on the phone has to deal with you. There's no one else you can talk to you. You can't go higher up. That is a really bad way to run your business and I understand why you're only a two star stay away from IKEA such bad customer service they could've made this right because you can always make it right when your company has done something wrong. read more

First time inside IKEA! I've heard about this place. The rumors about finding cheap furniture and decor. I didn't know what to expect. This place is a Mecca! It's like the Disneyland of shopping places; lots of people walking around, lines for food and the restroom, and the food quality is subpar at best. The show rooms are pretty cool. I like how you can see everything laid out. And you can buy everything in the show rooms. That is awesome. The prices seemed very fair. The quality of the furniture is questionable though. The food is just okay. We ordered the famous Swedish meatballs, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, peas, and a pizza. The Mac n cheese tasted like the Mac from KFC. Not too bad. Really creamy. The mashed potatoes were good. Nothing special though. And the pizza was pretty basic tasting. Overall, fun place to go and shop. IKEA's self checkout is seriously the most asinine thing I've ever seen. I scanned all my items but was "randomly" selected for their supposed random cart checks. I don't think this is random at all, it feels targeted. There must be someone in a room monitoring people and selects which customers to check, I am telling you- it feels off and like they profile customers. So the guy comes over and scans a cushion that I was RETURNING. I had the receipt for it. But their ai system alerted him that that item wasn't scanned. I explained to him I'm returning that item which is why it wasn't scanned and he goes "oh okay I understand, I'll correct it" and then proceeds to literally scan my entire cart. I bought 15 little rugs from the as-is section. He re-scanned every single one. How does this make any sense to anyone with a brain???? It's insane to me that IKEA gets rid of all their checkout stands with real people, make their customers scan their own purchases and checkout on their own, then "randomly" select aka profile their customers to re-scan their entire cart and make them feel like they're dishonest. This entire process is so inefficient and backwards!! I get that people steal and will be dishonest with self checkout. Then why even offer self checkout?? And sorry but how many people are now being unmonitored and have an opportunity to "miss" scanning something while this guy is distracted re-scanning all 25 of the items I purchased? The checkout time took double the amount of time as it would have if I had just had an opportunity to checkout the good old fashioned normal way with a real human person. Honestly we love ikea, but this experience is a huge turn off. I'll just buy ikea products on Facebook marketplace and avoid this place. read more

Swedish meatballs plate was great-- my favorite option! I'd recommend getting the family portion to share between 2 people because 1 plate isn't enough haha-- we are used to the American portion sizes. Salmon plate also good but could use a bigger portion size. Tomato soup and salad were more basic-- wouldn't probably get them next time. Overall, the food tastes pretty healthy here which is what I appreciate. I like the ambiance where kids can play with toys/plushies, the couch set up, and the open space with big windows and natural lighting. Gets busy on a Saturday even at 1-2pm-- beware haha. Service could improve by opening a second line. Good value food especially for families! Aside from the food, panda plushies are at a great deal now-- $4 each!! It felt surprisingly fun and playful walking through the IKEA in Costa Mesa when I visited with someone, because even though it's a furniture store, the whole place had this lively and exciting atmosphere that teenagers would enjoy a lot, especially since I saw so many of them exploring the showrooms, laughing together, and taking pictures in the different setups. The store is huge, and every corner had something new to look at, and I really appreciated how easy it was to move at my own pace without feeling rushed, almost like wandering through a giant maze of creative ideas. I sat on a few couches and beds just to see how they felt, and it surprised me how comfortable everything was considering how affordable the items are, which makes it perfect for teenagers who love imagining what their future spaces might look like. The staged rooms felt almost like mini apartments, and even though they're meant to show off furniture, they end up being great spots for teenagers to take photos or hang out for a moment, adding to the playful vibe of the visit. I didn't expect to enjoy the experience as much as I did, but walking through the store made me feel relaxed and inspired, and I never doubted that the visit would turn out the way I hoped once I saw how many young people were having a genuinely good time there. I've only been to the IKEA in Costa Mesa once before writing this review, but it stood out to me as one of the most enjoyable and surprisingly youthful places I've been to in a long time, and I would highly recommend that teenagers go there because it gives them a place to explore, take pictures, be creative, and enjoy themselves in an environment that feels welcoming and full of possibilities. We got the food upstairs at the food court and it was pretty good! It was good for the value for sure. We got the smoked salmon salad and all I did was add the lemon. It was perfect because the salmon was already seasoned and had a lot of flavor. The meatballs were great, you got to get a fork of the meatball, pea, mash potato, and the berry sauce. It's like a Swedish thanksgiving. For the value, I'd say it's a steal. read more

First time ever trying ikea dining and I was impressed. I went on a Tuesday which means $3.99 meals as long as you sign up for an account online. I got the chicken tenders and fries and I added on a slice of garlic bread for .79 cents. Now for the best part the slice of cake!!!! I don't even know what it is but wow the best cake I've had in a long time. You definitely cannot beat the price of the meal and it's pretty tasty. Everyone in socal knows ikea. It's a maze, most of the furniture looks like it's made from chopped particle board, and the cafeteria swedish meatballs are decent. The furniture quality is so-so except for their highest end items. Most can be modified or strengthened easily. I've had to drill missing holes in a steel bunk bed, broken pieces, and a coffee table with a hole off by about 4inches. But there's very few places around where you can get furniture of this design for this price. Just know that you'll be replacing it in a couple years, perfect for dorms or apartments. read more

Unironically one of my favorite places to hang out and eat. I love going with a bunch of my friends and just checking out different furniture and room set ups; super fun to just wander through the maze. Weirdly enough, what I mostly come here is for the food court! This is probably my favorite place to eat out at--literally nothing beats the price of the Swedish meatball plate and the taste is just delectable. I would lay down my life for an infinite supply of Ikea Swedish meatballs. The cranberry sauce kinda sucks though, sorry... BUT still an amazing meal!! Stopped by this ikea for a quick lil snack and walk around! Ikea has such good deals, and a lot of things were on sale today when we visited :) We stopped by the food court first since we were hungry! Y'all, we got like 5 orders of the meatballs and a side of mac and cheese and it was all less than $15. That's crazy! The meatballs also tasted better than I remembered previously, so that was a plus. While walking through the showrooms, there were a lot of spaces that felt somewhat unorganized, and a lot of items were out of stock. I wish that Ikea had more colorful options for adult bedding and other adult decorative items. Most of the fun items are limited to the children's section, which isn't this location's fault at all, but I still wish there were more options! We weren't really assisted by anyone on the main floor, which is fine. The staff working at the food service section were so sweet! All in all, it was very fun and a wonderful time as always! If Disneyland, Ashley's Furniture, and Costco had a lovechild it'd be Ikea. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Ikea. The furniture is often cheap, lacks personality, and is never easy to put together.. but god damn are they efficient. This superstore has really cracked the code on the shopping experience. You're instantly immersed in a world of Swedish goods, with nowhere to go but to follow the red arrows on the ground. They even have a cafeteria, so you can make a whole afternoon out of the trip. I recently stopped by with my best friend in search of organizational items for our garage. The store offers anything and everything you could need for your home. I was surprised to see that they even sell plants! If you don't want to get lost in the labyrinth of people and screaming children, you can also order ahead for an easy pick up. read more

Large parking lot, clean, and organized. I wish they open the food court a little later in the evening, but they closed before closing time. I love a lot of the products especially given their price tags are relatively low. Liam and Brandon in the home decor and garden areas went above and beyond for me today, despite clearly being understaffed. I had done my homework prior and had specific item numbers of planters that are not available online and were very limited. It was like finding a needle in a haystack but they literally fetched a ladder and helped me search high and low! In a time when the economy is hurting and everyone is stretched thin it's very inspiring to still witness great customer service. I truly appreciate the extra mile that I experienced today.
