My mom and I stopped into IKEA yesterday to get some new curtains for her. While there, we decided to get some plastic bins and a few other things not on the list. All was going well until we checked out. I've used the self checkout a handful of times without issue. This time, I made an error assuming that the lids came with the plastic bins. They don't. When we called the attendant over to clarify, she was extremely rude and condescending. When we asked to remove some of the lids from the checkout, she stated she wouldn't do that until we finished scanning our plastic bins. Inferring that we would be likely to steal them. We told her we were going to scan them but that wasn't good enough. She took the scanner and did it herself before anything else. And apparently she messed that part up because we got flagged for a random check where she ended up having to re-scan each item herself to match it to what we had already scanned. Her tone and attitude only stirring the pot further. As someone who has spent the last 14 years working in multiple forms of customer service, I was extremely disappointed in the way that we were treated. Do better IKEA! read more

It just seems to be getting worse at IKEA. I ordered so storage bags online for pick up. Get the message they are ready and head over to pick them up. Get there and check in and the guy goes in the back to get them. He comes back out and I ask him for a bag to my things in. He reaches into the cart and says you can use one of the bags you purchased. I looked at him like he was kidding and I just walked away. If you are telling me that you can't pack orders in a bag for a person to carry them, then you need to advertise that. This is a joke. If my wife didn't like the items I would not come back here. What an overwhelming place to shop. You will get your steps in for sure. Elevator and stair access to varied levels. They have areas designated such as chairs, closets, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, bedding, canisters, etc. There are displays that are assembled and coordinated for you to envision your space. Once you find what you like, you can either put it in your shopping cart or if it is a larger item needing assembly, you can get it boxed from their warehouse. They also offer delivery service for a fee. They have a small food court too. Some items seem to be cheap quality but others are higher end so just look carefully. We always love to go IKEA to have a visual and complete picture of our rooms. IKEA is very good at building such good display room sets. I really like the new cabinets with LED lights. The prices are actually very reasonable since they are very durable. The staff are very nice and helpful. Don't forget to get your cinnamon rolls and ice creams. There's something comforting about coming here to just walk around. If you have kids, they also have a play area that you can drop them off so you can shop freely. It's so easy to spend hours and get lost here. I love the different displays they have that give you a feel of how their furniture all comes together. They have such a wide selection of items which is great. I'd say their price is decent depending on the item. If you've never been to IKEA, be sure to take note of the item number you like to find it in their warehouse downstairs to purchase and build. They have a cafeteria style restaurant as well. IKEA's swedish meatballs have long been an iconic symbol of simple, affordable quality. So while prices have crept up while quality has gone down, I still often find myself returning here for little shopping dates. Where this location struggles is with service. Staff are often hard to find on the main floor where you pick up furniture boxes. The experience really pushes you towards self service - from understanding furniture details to figuring out delivery and pickup logistics. For example, there isn't an easy way to tell if a furniture's pieces can fit your car because half the furniture you can buy can't be picked up. On my last couple do visits, staff did not help me navigate this, and it ended up costing me 1-2 hours of extra shopping time without a desired outcome. With that said, I do occasionally get a helpful and enthusiastic staff member on the shopping floor that helps me look up new furniture or figure out the colors/styles that might generally be available. So for the soft spot I have for this furniture playground, its cute and solid furniture finds, and the hope that service support and consistency improves, I am landing on 3 stars. I will likely be back... but fingers crossed for smoother adventures next time! read more

Went on a Sunday for a car meet and we had our breakfast there at their cafe. Let me tell you, the food was spot on that morning. We had bacon, some crepe/pancakes, eggs and the famous meatballs. Okay. They seem to have a lot of the furniture that you'd find on the website and it's easy to locate items in the warehouse. The viewing rooms are also nicely decorated and they're quite spacious. We also had to return something once and the process was also super easy and efficient. My only complaint is that some of the workers are not very knowledgeable. An item that we were interested in was located in "Aisle 00" which is not labeled anywhere in the warehouse so we went to ask an associate. She didn't know and just directed us to the self-service kiosks which was no help because the kiosks just said the same thing that the website did. Considering it's the only Ikea in Orange County, you can't be too picky. read more

I came here looking for a non-toxic couch for my new place. Since we saw it online, we wanted to test it out before buying! The tablet you can use before entering did not tell us where the couch was on display, only where it was in the warehouse. We decided to go o na scavenger hunt, hopeful that we'd find it. Fortunately, we did find it! It was very easy to locate a nearby employee and place our order. We were easily able to schedule the delivery for move-in day and receive an invoice to check out ourselves at the downstairs register. I haven't been to Ikea in a long minute, so it was nice to check it out again. They intentionally makes the layout inconvenient so that you have to walk through their showrooms. That said, we were looking at kitchen products, and appreciated the different kitchen layouts on display. There were several Ikea team members nearby to help out, but we didn't need any assistance on our first visit. We also stopped by both the bistro upstairs and the more casual Cafe downstairs. The people working at the bistro weren't that friendly and they were out of many food items since it was near closing time. The staff at the downstairs Cafe were much friendlier, so quality of service depends on who is working at that time. We got the strawberry ice cream and cinnamon bun downstairs for a tasty treat after checking out the showrooms. The ice cream was tart and not too sweet, which I liked and the cinnamon bun was served warm and gooey. Food is a great value, at $1.50 for cinnamon bun and $2 for ice cream. All in all, a nice experience for your furnishing and home renovation needs. read more

Excellent selection, no matter what you want your theme to be. Noteworthy, is First floor that has a very nice, not sure what it's called. Doesn't come with a (optional) thin panel to cover that large opening. I drafted my own cardboard wall to cover that opening up. - Also, MICKE's tabletop surface is slightly rough. Had brunch at IKEA with my family and do some light browsing which turned to some light shopping. lol You can never leave here without getting something. Had brunch first and wasn't disappointed with the very affordable prices. Food was good. Had to wait a good 15-20 mins for coffee station to brew fresh coffee. Meatballs are always a fan favorite. Staff were friendly enough. This location was slightly clean, by the time we finished at the cafe- some of the showrooms were already ruffled by folks checking out the sections. Always a good selection of products to choose from and great inspiration to envision your ideal style and look. Pleasantly surprised that there are more self service registers and you'll need to scan your receipt to get through gate. Have to get the last minute cookies, frozen meatballs and other items. This is a great IKEA location. Plenty of parking unless you're here on a weekend. They recently installed Tesla charging stations alongside their regular electric car charging. The store itself is normally pretty clean and the selection of furniture and decor is great. The food in the cafe is hit or miss. Staff: We started out at the cafe by grabbing a delicious and very affordable breakfast. IKEA is well known for great products and very affordable food options. We got breakfast for 3 and a coffee for $8. Amazing! The guy serving this morning at opening could use some additional training as he seemed very disinterested and not too happy. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was surprisingly good too. Quality: Love this store for the clean, organized, well laid out feel. This location is less 'home furnishing wonderland' and more Escape Room: Flat-Pack Edition. Nothing screams "fun weekend" like getting gaslit by furniture and arguing with your partner in aisle 47B. The Journey: The entrance? Straightforward. Everything after that? A 2-hour spiritual detour where time has no meaning and the arrows on the floor are just suggestions. I'm pretty sure I saw a guy who's been trying to exit since 2019. The Furniture: Is cute until you get it home, open the box, and realize the instructions were written in ancient IKEA hieroglyphics. Why is there a picture of a sad man and a phone number? Sir, I need an exorcist, not customer service. ‍The Staff: Somewhere in the distance, a blue shirt may be spotted, but only if you chant "Billy Bookcase" three times in Swedish. The Checkout Line: Nothing like standing in line behind 12 other couples questioning their entire relationship while you're holding a $4 spatula and a plant you don't remember picking up. Bonus Round: Once you escape, brace yourself for the loading zone battle royale, where parking spots vanish and carts have minds of their own. I think I pulled a hamstring loading a Lack table. Bottom line: Great place to test your patience, your relationship, and your lower back strength. Two stars because I did get a new shelf... and a renewed appreciation for therapy. read more

Will never be coming back to IKEA. Made the mistake of purchasing a dresser and nightstand from IKEA. The dresser I received was defective and abysmal quality. The instructions for putting it together were abhorrent. I had multiple family members, including one that had 40+ years of experience with construction try to put it together and they all agreed the instructions were poorly written and the dresser was beyond low quality. I decided to return the dresser and was met with the most smug, nasty, attitudes from the employees at the return center, an ultimately was left with a store credit. While some of their items are geared more towards a college student look, they do have other items that are timeless. I personally enjoy purchasing basic kitchen items like silverware, dishware, and storage items from them. It's one of those places where you get what you pay for and the designs are basic and simple. One of my favorite things about Ikea is their store layout and how there are little shortcuts you can take to get somewhere faster. The parking here is huge yet is somehow always packed. I love walking through IKEA even though its a maze and seeing all the cool stuff and fun room and kitchen displays! I could be there all day hanging out in the displays ;) And I like the upstairs restaurant! More staff helped me get the box for the table at checkout, also got Kafferep raspberry cookies :) then stopped by the cafe for hotdog and pizza, pulled up my car at the loading area and off I went! The reason for 4 not 5 stars is because although prices at the store are reasonable, its still the old outdated retail business model pricing tricks with with the .99 at the end! read more

I'm writing to share a very disappointing experience I had at the Costa Mesa, CA location this evening (around 5:30-6:30pm on Friday October 10th, 2025) regarding a sofa that was part of the "Last Chance" sale. On the showroom floor, the sofa was listed at $575 ($500 for the sofa and $75 for the cover). I confirmed with an employee that the store had one sofa in stock and plenty of covers available. She and I even discussed possibly buying an extra cover since they had so many in stock and the sofa was being discontinued so I wouldn't be able to buy one later if I needed a replacement. Based on that information, I proceeded to checkout and paid for both items. However, when I went to the pickup area, I was told that while the sofa was available, the cover I had paid for was actually out of stock. I was offered a different color cover instead, and I was initially told it was the same price. Later, after my return for the original cover was processed and I was buying the color I didn't really want, I was informed that this alternate cover was actually $175, not $75. Who in their right mind is going to pay $100 more for a cover they didn't even want in the first place?! I would have settled on it if it was the same price because it was a good deal. But are they seriously thinking I would pay MORE for it? When I asked if the store could match the original cover's price, ship me the cover I originally wanted, or check other stores for availability, I was told none of that was possible. The manager was extremely unhelpful and said my only options were to purchase the unwanted cover at the higher price or return the entire sofa. This was especially frustrating because this was a Last Chance sale -- meaning the sofa is being discontinued and will no longer be sold. If that's the case, it makes no sense that the store would refuse to honor the original cover's price for a different color (that I didn't even really want to begin with) particularly after I was told by an employee they were the same price. If the sofa is discontinued, what will the store even do with the remaining covers? It seems like a very simple and reasonable accommodation that could have turned this situation into a positive customer experience instead of a negative one. Ultimately, I had to return the sofa altogether. The way the situation was handled made it even worse -- neither the original associate nor the manager came back to speak with me (a bit unprofessional and cowardly if you ask me) Instead, another employee was sent to process my return while I was visibly upset and in tears. I left the store feeling dismissed, misled, and very disappointed. I had been excited about this purchase, but the lack of flexibility and accountability from the staff completely ruined the experience. I would appreciate it if someone could review this incident and address both the communication and customer service issues that occurred. I'd also like clarification on why the store could not honor the original price for the alternate cover -- especially when the error was not mine and the product line is being discontinued. Not confident I will get any of that though after the way they seem to treat their customers. What a nightmare. I'm still sad about it honestly. read more
