When you walk into an establishment such as III Forks, you are immediately surrounded by an amazing atmosphere complete with excellent lighting. The front of the house is professional, courteous and speedy. We had a RSVP for a 5:30 dinner for Valentines, as we wanted to try out the Sweetheart dinner. My girlfriend and I wanted to see how well the kitchen could put out prepped dinners in mass, and sadly, that's where we were left very underwhelmed. The RSVP started out amazing. We were running late for our RSVP (thank you Austin traffic, we love you), and instead of just cancelling our spot, we received a phone call from the staff. We were already at valet when they called, so they held our RSVP. This is amazing customer service and a great first step to the evening. Once we were seated, we decided to order a couple of drinks off the menu. I have the old fashioned, and my lady had the Jasmine. Both drinks were absolutely phenomenal, so the bar definitely gets kudos from us. Then, from the sweetheart dinner we both ordered the lobster bisque as an appetizer. From here, the rating stars begin to decrease. Let's go plate by plate here: 1. Lobster bisque was entirely too thick and had a film over the top. The temperature was not right and you can tell this was sitting before being served to us. The flavor was there, but it could have used a touch less salt and more lobster. I counted 4 pieces in my dish, and the pieces were definitely overcooked (a theme that resurfaces in the main course). 2. The dinner course consisted of lobster tail, a 6 oz filet, mashed potato, corn, roasted peppers, snap peas, and tomato. As you can see in the image, the plating left much to be desired as everything was just everywhere. Secondly, we both ordered medium steaks and the temperatures were off. Mine was medium rare, and hers was medium well, both under seasoned. This is unacceptable...you are a steakhouse. Your steaks' temperature should be perfect. Lobster tail was highly overcooked and under seasoned. The veggies and mash were both delicious however. 3. Lastly, the dessert was a chocolate cake with raspberry and blackberry. This was absolutely fantastic, no complaints here. At the end of the night, we were left disappointed. Dined 8/20/2019 We used to live in Dallas so frequented this original restaurant. It was our go to spot. We briefly had a location in Denver but it did not surprise which was a shock. We dined there and thought that the food mirrored that from Dallas. We recently relocated to Austin and were glad to see that they had the restaurant as we had been looking for a new "go to" spot. I ordered the pork chop that was incredible. It was so much better than my husband's steak, in my opinion. The 4 stars is because: 1. Initial stop at table for drink orders delayed (server may have had too many tables but did a good job considering the number of us that he was helping). 2. I requested feta instead of blue cheese on my salad and was brought the salad and notified that they didn't have feta. I was offered goat cheese. I really would have canceled my order for this item if I were informed of the lack of the feta. Instead, I settled and didn't enjoy the salad nearly as much. 3. Husband ordered pecan cake but the description provided by the server was inaccurate and inferred that this was a cinnamon/spice cake base instead of white. We loved it and were pleasantly surprised that it was a white base. I loved that the restaurant calls after your dining experience to make sure that all was well. Came in here on a Thurs night with the fellas - a couple of the guys wanted to try the 42 day dry aged Ribeye so we gave it a shot. Made a reservation on OpenTable and there was pretty much every time slot available. We happened to see a sign outside with the Happy Hour specials, which was cool - they had some drink specials and $1 oysters .. however, after being seated at a table, we were told the happy hour specials were only good at the bar... seriously? Our table was literally maybe 10 ft from the bar and they weren't willing to honor it. Pretty lame. So, I ended up paying $3 ea for the same oysters that someone else at the bar was probably enjoying at $1 ea. There were 5 of us so we weren't about to all ambush the bar over a couple happy hour specials. Anyways, the $3 ea oysters were "ok", they were cleaned well and they had a couple different options. They came with the usual horseradish, cocktail sauce, and some other green sauce that had oil and garlic in it I believe. Another one of the guys ordered some cocktail shrimp - which are apparently priced at $5 ... apparently this is for EACH shrimp.. and be warned, they're quite small and weren't very fresh when we went. Do yourself a favor and go buy a whole cocktail shrimp tray at the grocery store for the same price. DON'T ORDER THE COCKTAIL SHRIMP. On to the steaks - the waiter was very knowledgeable and detailed about the whole aging process, which was great. If you've never had a 42 day dry aged steak before - I'd describe it as having almost a bleu cheese type of fermented aroma to it. I didn't end up ordering it but we did sample each others' steaks at the table. It's not for everyone - nor do I feel it's worth $130 but to each their own. If you do order one of their 42 day dry aged steaks - you get to pick from some upscale cutlery as your weapon of choice.. really just for fun but kinda cool. (42 day dry aged steaks) Presentation comes out on a wooden plank with some alcohol infused sea salt that they light on fire. As far as the steak I ordered - I purposely ordered the flat iron - yep, the cheapest steak on the menu.. and I did it for a good reason. You can read up more on the flat iron steak and how it's gaining popularity on google if you're curious - but what I really wanted was to see the butchering skills at this fancy joint. The flat iron for those that don't know is from the shoulder portion of the cow and it has a lot of connective tissue and gristle - why the hell did I order it? Because it showcases the skill of the butcher - it's actually a very tender cut if done correctly. Did this place pull it off? Yes, they did a great job - they basically disassemble the meat, cut out all the tuff parts and put it all back together for you on the plate (see my pic) it comes pre-sliced because the otherwise inedibles have been trimmed out. There was only 1 tiny piece of gristle that was inedible but this "budget" steak topped with their "King's butter" made for a mouthwatering experience. The flat iron is on the leaner side - so if you like a little more fat on your steak-go for the ribeye. The side dishes are sharable and a la carte - 3 of them was enough to go around for the 5 of us. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious, the creamed corn was ok, we also ordered the asparagus but it wasn't all that fresh either. Also, their desserts are not on the menu - you're just going to have to listen to your server's presentation to find out what they have. Overall experience - if you want happy hour - go to the bar, be mindful of what appetizers you choose, pick what steak makes sense for you. If you want to splurge on the 42day - I couldn't find anywhere else downtown that has it.. if you want to give the flat iron or other steaks a try - I strongly suggest trying the King's butter. This place would've been a 5 from me if it wasn't for misleading happy hour specials, subpar cocktail shrimp and mediocre asparagus. read more

The restaurant also has a nice environment and comfortable seating. Cons: Service was definitely spotty at times mostly due to a noticeable lack in the number of servers. The tables are also placed pretty closed together thus causing an increase in sound around the restaurant. The pricing of the dry aged steaks is significantly more expensive than other restaurants in the area such as, Capital Grille. Verdict: Overall, this was a good dining experience. I've been getting steaks from these folks for several years, largely through a local delivery service, starting doing the Lockdown. I've now gone to the restaurant in person a few times; they not only have some really good cuts -I usually go for the ribeye cap--but they have filet on the long bone, and were doing Lobster-McNuggets tonight, among other things. Total pros. I've done most of the steakshouses in Austin, from the pretentious to the "bargains," and this may be the best. Valet park, ordering from a delivery service may be tricky given no easy parking for the runner. Props to all that I've met there. Good people, too! At one point he was closing out a large table next to us and he felt as if we waited too long for us to get our refill of of wine ( it honestly wasn't long at all) so he refused to charge us for the wine. From the drinks to the appetizers, main course and desert, it all arrived relatively quickly which we were very pleased with! The wait staff and in particular the manager I was very impressed with. They have exceptional customer service and you can tell they love what they do for a living. They're known for their steaks/meat but we wanted to try a variety of things. So we ordered the III forks salad, wagyu bone marrow, bacon jam scallops, filet mignon, and six cheese potatoes. Had a few glasses of wine also. Presentation of the bone marrow was very extra (in a good way) and eye catching!! Tasted delicious too. Also, I normally don't like salads but the III forks salad was fantastic. Great vinaigrette sauce and pecans. Only complaint was that there was ONE slice of apple in the whole salad.. not sure if that's normal. No complains about anything else. Our server, Thomas, did an excellent job telling us about the menu and extras. Super friendly and enjoyed our little anniversary gift (irish coffee/whiskey of some sort..yum). We are so happy we had our wedding reception dinner at III Forks. The service was perfect! Perfectly timed and so on point. The food and wine was everything we wanted and so delicious. We had a private room with 50 people and all of our needs were anticipated and taken care of. Eric took care of all of the hosting and service and was so sweet, kind and professional.
