There are certain restaurants that become part of Rhode Island's identity, and Iggy's is one of them. Whether you're a lifelong Rhode Islander or just visiting for a few days, it's one of those places that almost everyone recommends. After eating here many times over the years, I completely understand why. It's consistently good, the atmosphere is relaxed, and every visit reminds me why I keep coming back.
On this visit, I ordered my usual, the fried whole belly clams, and they were exactly what I was hoping for. Whole belly clams can be hit or miss depending on who's cooking them. Too often they're gritty, overbreaded, overcooked, or they're using those giant clams that are more rubbery than enjoyable. That has never been my experience at Iggy's. The clams here are on the smaller side, incredibly tender, perfectly fried, and have a light, crisp coating that lets the seafood shine instead of burying it. Every bite had that fresh, sweet clam flavor you're looking for, and not once did I bite into sand or grit. If you're a whole belly clam fan, these are among the best I've had in Rhode Island.
We also ordered the linguine with clams, and it was just as impressive. This is another dish that's surprisingly easy to get wrong. Too many restaurants rely on salt and garlic to carry the entire meal, leaving you reaching for a glass of water halfway through. Not here. The white clam sauce was balanced, buttery, and flavorful without becoming heavy or overly salty. There was plenty of garlic, fresh parsley, and clam flavor, but everything worked together instead of competing with one another. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, giving the dish the texture it should have instead of the mushy noodles you often find elsewhere. It was obvious someone in the kitchen cared about getting the little details right.
One thing I've always appreciated about Iggy's is its consistency. It doesn't matter whether it's a busy summer afternoon with a line out the door or a quieter weekday meal, the food has always been dependable. That's becoming harder and harder to find these days. The restaurant itself is clean, the dining room is spacious, and even when it's bustling it never feels chaotic. There's a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in, enjoy your meal, and linger a little longer. Being right along the waterfront certainly doesn't hurt either. It's a classic Rhode Island setting that fits the restaurant perfectly.
Considering the quality of the seafood, the generous portions, and the location, I also think the prices are very reasonable. You leave feeling like you got your money's worth, which isn't something I find myself saying very often anymore.
If I had written this review based solely on the food, I probably would have landed at four stars. The meal was excellent, just as I've come to expect from Iggy's. What elevated this visit to five stars was our server, Marissa.
Marissa was genuinely one of the best servers I've had in quite a while. She greeted us with a smile, made us feel welcome from the start, and immediately came across as someone who actually enjoys her job. When we had questions about the menu, she didn't recite rehearsed answers or try to upsell us. She gave honest opinions about what she liked, explained a few menu items, and made recommendations that felt sincere instead of scripted. That's something I really appreciate because it makes the interaction feel personal rather than transactional.
Throughout the meal she was attentive without hovering. Drinks were refilled before we had to ask, empty plates disappeared quickly, and she checked on us at just the right times. We never had to look around wondering where our server had gone, yet we also never felt interrupted while we were eating and talking. Those little things make a bigger difference than people realize, and Marissa handled them effortlessly.
Good food is expected at a place with Iggy's reputation. Outstanding service is what turns a good meal into a memorable one, and that's exactly what happened here. Marissa is a tremendous asset to the restaurant, and I hope management recognizes what they have in her.
We'll continue coming back because Iggy's has earned our business over the years. Consistently excellent seafood, fair prices, a clean and welcoming restaurant, and service like we received from Marissa are exactly why this place has remained a Rhode Island favorite for generations. It's easy to see why so many people make it a tradition, and we'll happily be part of that tradition for years to come. read more
