3.5. It's solid. A friend took me for dinner, I liked the menu. We did the sesame chicken app but the chicken had a taste I didn't care for, like I could taste the dish rag. This was the only thing I didn't care for. My friend said he could taste it but it wasn't over powering like it was for my tastebuds. My absolute fave was the golden unagi roll. Yes, truffles got me, but they executed it in such a perfect way I could easily go back for another. That was the best thing. I had a salmon skin salad and it was fine but nothing was as epic as the golden unagi. I don't remember which roll my friend had, it was spicy so I didn't try it. He enjoyed it so there's that. The food came out nice and hot on a cold evening. Service was very quick and friendly. The restaurant was pretty quiet with a lot of people enjoying the evening, much appreciated. Still very good. I can always depend on Ichima to serve good sushi. It costs a bit more but the quality is always on point. Plus they let me customize my sushi. Some places are very uptight and force you to eat the sushi the way they want and do not let you customize. This is why I go here. read more

Unfortunately, although the service was quite friendly and ambiance was serviceable, the food quality, taste and freshness was lacking. Most notably, their namesake Ichima sushi set had several pieces of fish which were excessively "fishy" and likely beyond their prime, namely the tuna and salmon pieces. The spicy tuna pieces were edible but nothing special. The dinner was also priced on the higher end as well, without delivering the quality I was expecting from a reputable sushi chain. I hope this was simply an outlier, as they seem like a nice enough establishment. read more

The Jessica Alba roll was delicious, the miso soup was perfect, service was incredible. The ambience was clean, comfortable, and quiet. It was my first time here at Ichima and my bestie made sure we had beer and saki. Sapporo's and hot saki with sushi hit the spot at lunch. You've been coming here for years under several management changes and I believe ownership over the years. We've noticed lately the service is not a spot on as it used to be. However, the prices and the food are generally very nice. very disappointed the last time I ordered a bottle of saki and did not finish it, I have never finished it. I asked for it to be wrapped up to go ( as I always do) and they told me that they could not do that. After our conversation with management They did end up, taking the sake off of our check because I was not about to pay for a bottle and only drink half. I enjoy saki with my leftovers. I am a loyal customer of Ichima. This is where we celebrate a majority of family milestones and celebrations. The food is good and price reasonably. The greeters are very polite and friendly. However, for the past three occasions we visited Travis the only male server had a very bad attitude. He ignores our request for extra napkins or at all instances raises his eyebrow with contempt. We love going to this place but if management do not correct this issue, guests will leave with a bad experience overshadowing the other good things this place has to offer. read more

We went on a busy Wednesday night, party of 2 walked in and had to put our names on the waiting list and there was a lot of people waiting. But noticed the bar was empty so we asked to get seated there and the host sat is right away. All the Sushi Chef's greeted us right away, server took our order right away and few moments later the yummy food started coming out one after the other. Everything tasted good and the fish was fresh not fishy at all. Was a great experience and will definitely come back once in the area. Highly recommended! read more

Our party of 8 was seated 3:45 pm however the server would only take our drink orders first. By the time she got to taking the remaining 4 customer FOOD order, it was a few minutes past 4:00 pm (seems like a tactic to delay inputting food orders close to the deadline to avoid the lunch price due to her being sloooow). She said we couldn't get the Obento lunch price. We had to challenge her and insist it's not our fault as we were seated well before the 4 pm deadline for lunch prices and she didn't take our food order timely. She claimed she couldn't adjust it on her handheld order machine. We asked to speak to the manager. She left to speak to her manager then came back and was able to adjust the price after taking our orders again. During our mealtime, she never came back to offer refills on the hot tea, soda or refill the water carafe. By the time we finished eating, she was to take her break and said someone else will help us. In reviewing the printed bills, it was wrong and the second server had to redo both checks. Upon seeing a 18% service charge for large group, we decided that was her tip. If they didn't charge 18%, I would've left a much lesser amount. It is RECOMMENDED you INSIST in ordering FOOD before your drinks to make the 4 pm lunch price deadline. read more

Our family eats at the restaurant frequently and it is usually very good however our experience the other night was terrible. They brought out the miso soup and all of our spoons smelled really strongly of bleach. It was so strong our son's soup tasted like it had bleach in it. We told our server and she replaced the spoons but didn't replace the soups so we needless to say they went uneaten. Absolutely awful service. Will definitely think twice before we come back. read more

We used to eat at Ichima sort of regularly for lunch years ago, but haven't been back in a while. When we decided we wanted sushi delivery, we decided to try them. We ordered the chirashi, and it was delicious! The rice was the perfect texture, which to me is a sign of good sushi. There was a very generous serving of different fishes, and a great assortment. The only issue was that we asked for no octopus, and it did have octopus. But only 1 slice, so we could deal with that. Also some of the best shishito peppers ever! We love them, and this prep was awesome. Sort of like a teriyaki sauce, with katsubushi sprinkled on time. Again, a very generous serving. (One of the peppers is taking over the octopus spot in the photo.) Definitely will order from them again! read more

A great place to visit for sushi craving. Their sushi has a great variety, from rich flavored eel, to just fresh salmon. The customer service do treat their guests with open-arms. And they do have some great birthday guest treatments XD. The restaurant lighting is pretty good for pictures. Trust me when I say that I am satisfied with my pictures for the food based on how they placed and the lighting. So my family have been going here for years and have had no problem.. today it seems every ask is a bother.. could we please have hot edamame, could we have more plates, etc? Food ordered was a poke tower and ahi tuna...the poke tower was awesome and fresh. The ahi tasted old and had no flavor .. it was covered in balsamic vinegar not sauce that i would think should go on there, but what do I know? Guacamole on the plate.. and it was bland. What more can be said about Ichima? Ichima resides in a beautiful space of not quite a small mom and pop, 10-seater sushi spot and not quite the big AYCE spot but borrowing a little from both. The vibe inside is homey slight dim lighting which creates a nice relaxing mood. Along with the wood and dark upholstered booths, the art and pictures are Japanese themed which makes it very nice. The sushi bar is busy with multiple chefs working on the patrons dishes and the Dodger game on the screen makes for the perfect Saturday dinner. The service is efficient with many staff buzzing about to help. The host this night greeted us with a smile and small conversation which was welcomed. The beer and sake collection is different from most with Suntory beer on draft! Please and thank you. The sushi and hot dishes are divine as I always remember it. Do not sleep on the hot dishes and sides. This night we had this amazing specialty that, let's just say I'm thinking of going back again tonight just for this dish they call Tuna Taco. First time here. My son brought me for mother's days. They don't take reservations, however the wait was quick. Service was great, the waitress was friendly and attentive. restaurant was clean, but most of all food was delicious. Started with a miso soup and shared 3 different sushi roll plates. The baked salmon with crab meat ands avocado was my favorite. Rolls were larger than most places and food was very fresh. Reasonably priced, bill came to around $43. I would love to return and try more from their menu. read more

One of my go-to sushi spots in SGV area, but noticed their food isn't as good as before. Maybe it's a new chef or something else? But I'm still willing to come back and give them another try hence why they're still getting 4 stars versus 3 stars or lower rating. We ordered the Lunch Bento Combo (Chicken Teriyaki, Mixed Tempura, & Sashimi), Snow Cone Roll, Lobsta Roll, and the Takoyaki. Both sushi rolls were a bit cold and not as tasty as before. The takoyaki was super dry and not good at all. The bento box was alright. The chicken teriyaki and mixed tempura were pretty good. The sashimi didn't tasted as fresh as we hoped. Good thing our tummies weren't upset or anything. We're just bummed the food didn't make us feel satisfied and it was my friend's first time dining here. Normally I expect the seaweed to crumple under the pressure of teeth and refuse to break, so I end up pulling a huge chunk of seaweed off, and the filling falls out.... But not here! Each one of our hand rolls had seaweed that broke away cleanly with each bite. It's such a small detail, but it was probably the most memorable and enjoyable thing to me. They have a good birthday deal, where you check in (with the restaurant staff) twice before your birthday, and you get your bday meal free!

Now, it's been a good few years since I've had miso soup, and I've never really been crazy about it, but this... this was some damn good soup. Liquid umami. Then the bulgogi and rice came. This is the best bulgogi I've ever had. So tender. Quite literally melted in my mouth. Punches of savory juice, tender fatty bits, golden brown perfectly caramelized onions, and a sweetness to bring it all together. Every bite was perfect. It washed over me and my shoulders and spine practically uncoiled themselves. I want to try more from the menu but... I'm... I'm going to need this again. Like tomorrow. I should say, especially for the price, this is a lot o' grub. A perfect filling portion, especially with the rice and soup. I had a smoothie a couple hours earlier so I really should've asked for a to-go box 80% of the way through... but I was just having too much fun stuffing my face to stop. To recap--lovely service, great music, and food to live for. And a restroom. It's not public, but they do have a restroom. Thank god for that restroom. We asked our waiter to check on it for us, and he came back to us saying it should have been on the plate that had the other Yellowtail Nigiri on it. The reason why we brought this up in the first place is because the two didn't come out together. He then brings another waitress who tells us it should have come out already, and then another who tells us completely different information (i.e. it came out with different fish). Overall an unpleasant experience. Would not be back again nor would I recommend this place to anyone, especially since they made such a big deal out of $10 nigiri on a $800 bill.

It comes unsweetened, but there's a convenient self-service station stocked with simple syrup, utensils, napkins, and to-go containers so you can customize it however you like. One thing to note is that it's a self-bus restaurant, so after your meal you'll return your tray and dispose of your trash. I had every intention of ordering one of their gorgeous matcha parfaits, but after finishing my meal, I simply didn't have the room. This is our 2nd favorite Sushi / Japanese restaurant. It is conveniently located but not enough parking, but we got lucky and found a spot. It is always busy get there before 5:30 pm or wait and hour, but worth the wait... On my first look, it was clean and neat, very high end looking. Then, and we were greeted by a friendly hostess, Jan, with traditional attire. It looked busy, yet we did not wait more than 2 minutes. The menu showed Americanized Japanese food and along with the real stuff like, sashimi and bento boxes. It is a bit high in price, except the bento boxes, which are reasonably priced, my family usually will get, them, the best value. Our server came, he was in a kitchen staff uniform, was very polite and friendly. He came by often to ask how we are and if we need more tea. Then we ordered miso soup, which was a bit too salty, had better. The edame looked like it was in the fridge to long, but still tasty. Our main courses came at a good pace. The bento boxes were clean and well presented. The portions were small, but each course was very good. The tempera was perfect, not over cooked and crispy. The California role was also very good. The rice was a perfect sushi rise, soft not hard or old tasting. The salmon cutlet was also cooked perfectly, not over done so it is cardboard flavored fish or still swimming. I just wanted more. So, I ordered a dragon role with 3 different kids of fish, was perfection, I only had better when I was in Japan and it cost ten times more. Then the oh-no came. Why four stars out of five because, even though the place was clean, the restrooms could be in a gas station. Dirty, out of soap and paper. I had to use my foot to open the door out, I did not want to touch it. I wounded if the kitchen was clean, so I peaked, it was fairly clean looking but had the typical dirty flor of many of these types of places. Because so much hurry and cutting... So, go to the bathroom before you come, and come early. There are better Japanese restaurants like Gin Sushi, but if we can't get in, we will come back, just not use the bathroom... read more

I've never been to a sushi place serving "Izumidai"; I had no idea what it was and it turned out to be Tilapia, which is basically super cheap farm raised imitation that looks similar to Red Snapper. No thanks. I'm sure sketchy places serve Tilapia instead of real red snapper, and most will have no idea, to save major costs... I guess at least they are being honest here, so they don't get sued. It's like restaurants serving "White Tuna" but there really is no such thing, and what it really is Escolar. I can see why this place is popular for being spacious and the bento boxes having a lot of volume for the price. But it's ok. It's catered for Western style. It got really crowded around 6:30pm on a Thursday. I like the seating in booths and you get a lot of food for the price. I was surprised the basic rolls, like spicy tuna, on the list were only $4, cost the same as the hand rolls; I guess because it comes with smaller 5-6 pieces, as opposed to the usual standard size 8. They're really way too heavy on the sauce here. I didn't really enjoy the beef teriyaki as it was just covered with way too much teriyaki sauce. It kind of felt more like I was eating beef stew... also thin/chewy. Also the marinated BBQ taste like something you can make at home. The calamari was alright. Very diverse friendly staff here. But there were like three sushi chefs and they looked like they weren't really in a good mood that night/looked kind of like a mafia gang/strict, though. Lol. They gave out complimentary miso soups, which is nice, but they bring it out way too earlier with the drinks before even placing the order. I wish the soup was hotter because it was lukewarm. I wish I could put ZERO stars.... but in order to write this review I have to leave one.. Where do I start???? First time came here back in 2014 food was great service was excellent but there was a cockroach on the floor.. That was the first sign for me but I didn't say anything and left.. So last night I was craving sushi and I said let me give this place a go again. They didn't welcome me when I walked in, Waited about an hour to have a seat. I was alone. There were plenty of places to sit! After waiting an hour they finally sat me down on a table where 4 could easily fit... I ordered what I had the first time I came here. The fish looked spoiled and had a stench, customer service was terrible, waited another half hour just to get water.. and yet again saw 6 roaches wondering around. That is disgusting and something they should take care of ESPECIALLY if you're a restaurant! So I called the server over and asked to speak to a manager. She told me that they are busy and to come back if I had a complaint. OKAY! Instead of wasting my time going over there just to tell you about how DISGUSTING your restaurant is, isn't worth my time! This roll came out looking pretty disappointed but as soon as I had my first btie, its creaminess shut me up, seriously, the BEST Philly roll, EVER! Mango Tango Roll - Consists of spicy tuna, imitation crab mix, salmon on the roll, with sprinkles of pecans and topped with mango. Just as delicious as it sounds. The most delicious sushi I have ever had! Fried Jalapeno Something Roll - Jalapenos stuffed with some stuff..don't really remember. Very unique, but it wasn't worth it. Wasn't all that great, but it wasn't bad! Yellow Tail Sashimi - The taste was there, but the texture wasn't. I don't think it was all that fresh, but still not bad. Just had dinner here with my family tonight during the Covid restrictions. They have a makeshift outside tent that is closed on all sides except for one side where a cold draft of air comes through. We didn't know this until we were seated. We kindly asked to be moved to another area in the tent where it was more enclosed and warm. Waiter went to ask the manager and came back to tell us that the manager denied our request and would not move us. We have been coming here for years!! This is enough for us to never come back. We ate our meal as quickly as possible and most likely might catch some kind of cold given the cold wind exposure. Given the Covid scenario, they make a good effort to exist and remain open. A simple request to move a table to a warmer area should not be an issue, especially when you have children below 5 with you. read more

Once in awhile, it gets really busy and then it doesn't go as well (forgot the Miso, missed an order), but they are quick to replace and apologize when something is wrong. It was indulgent without being overpowering - a must-try dish! The chirashi bowl was generous and packed with a vibrant variety of sashimi cuts over perfectly seasoned sushi rice. I had a fantastic dining experience at Ichima in Pasadena! From the moment we walked in, the manager and staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and professional. Their warm hospitality truly made us feel taken care of. As for the food--everything was outstanding. The tuna toast was flavorful and perfectly balanced, the nabe udon was refreshingly light yet satisfying, and the chirashi bowl was beautifully presented with fresh, high-quality fish. The end of a Era. We've been coming to this restaurant for almost 10 years. We kept coming through the recession, the endless remodels, the numerous price increases, and the policy where people began getting carded on their birthdays for a song, all because my daughter liked this place. Well, we draw the line at verbal abuse. The current hostess staff, specifically one crass "Cammie", have forever turned us off of this place. There are too many other, high quality sushi restaurants to want to endure verbal assaults and endless attitude. Unless you want to start your meals with an appetizer of interrogation and insults, please heed this warning and take your loved ones elsewhere. read more

This place did not disappoint. The albacore sashimi was extremely fresh (served with cripsy onion slices and a great sauce). The Sashimi B combination was also good - the slices of fish were generous and delicious. It came with albacore, salmon, yellowtail, tuna, and shrimp. The lobster roll was just okay. We also got a tuna roll and a yellowtail roll. Both are not traditionally cut. These are suppose to be smaller than the normal rolls. Still - the fish inside was good. Overall - I agree with the majority of these great reviews as to quality of food and price. I would definitely come back here for fresh sushi! read more

Had an amazing dinner at Ichima! We tried the Ichima Roll and the Yellowtail Delight Roll, and both were absolutely outstanding. The presentation was beautiful, and you could really taste how fresh the ingredients were. The Ichima Roll was rich and creamy with perfectly ripe avocado, while the Yellowtail Delight Roll had an amazing balance of flavors and fresh fish that melted in your mouth. Every bite was delicious! The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. If you're a sushi lover, these rolls are definitely a must-try. Decent place. Very busy and usually a wait, but you can join the Yelp wait list before you go. Inside it's nice, no traditional floor seating if that's your kind of thing. Service is pretty good, pretty fast and numerous people dropping off dishes. They have a lot of options that can be overwhelming Oysters are expensive Sushi rolls have too much rice If you have someone at your table with a birthday let them know, it's pretty awesome, they play a song and everyone claps Lastly their self generated tipping options are post tax. Absolutely horrible! Their service is by far the worst! Not only ALL of the workers have attitude problems, but they're also very rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. The two ladies working in the front were unapproachable, they showed no sense of urgency to seat people who have been waiting for a long time. Our server, Chris, was terrible. When we asked for anything, he would take his sweet time and make nasty remarks. Do NOT go here, the food (smells extremely fishy) and service is horrible! Next time I'm only going to Kabuki conveniently located in the same plaza (better food and excellent service). read more

bad service. we waited over 2 hrs for a group of 9 people and they never called us for a table. we told the host that we are willing to break into two table seating. They ignored us and said we have to wait. We saw numerous big group of people left and the waiters broke up those big tables into smaller ones to serve less parties who came 2 hrs after us. I just think this is a fucked up how they organize the priorty. Very unprofessional and rude host. we walked out and didnt want to wait anymore. Never go back there again because we as customers don't deserve this kind of treatment. read more

Last week I called ahead to pick up an order of a Dragon Roll and they gave me a Red Dragon Roll instead. I called to inform them of their mistake and rather than apologizing and trying to amend the situation they doubled down and told me that they never make mistakes so if I got a Red Dragon Roll it was because I simply ordered it. Needless to say I do not recommend this place or any place that has such terrible customer service. Furthermore, the sushi didn't taste fresh and the rice was hard.
