I want to give this place a great review as I have come here many times before, but tonight was about as bad as can be. Took my daughter to have sushi for a dad/daughter date and other than the food everything else was significantly under average. The wait time was 30 min and with Covid that is fair and fully understandable. What is not fair is being 4th on the list and watching 2 groups after you come in and get seated. On top of that the hostess proceeded to say sir we called your name. Well that is a 100% lie as we sat right next to the host stand waiting. The tall busboy was the best employee of the night coming over and making a table set up for us knowing we had been overlooked. Food was good, waiter was ok (charged for drinks I didn't have) but he took care of correcting. While I understand restaurants are struggling and doing their best during this time, please don't compromises customer service. Credit to the busboy !! My daughter and myself happened upon this location one day after shopping a several months ago. We were seated promptly however, the servers were a little slow in taking our orders. We were the only ones at the table as it was the middle of the day. Our chef however, was extremely knowledgeable and made sure our food was cooked to perfection just as we wanted it. He put on a spectacular show and made us laugh the entire time. After our food was served, he made sure he asked if we needed anything else and if our food was to our expectations. After such a delightful experience, we decided to return a couple weeks later. To our disappointment that particular chef was not working so we had another cook for us. It was horrible compared to our previous experience. The food was absolutely bland, no flavor no nothing. The chef was monotone in his performance and we didn't even finish our food. After careful consideration a couple weeks later, we decided to take our chances again and go back to see if the original chef was there. When we arrived, my daughter described him to the hostess and she told us he was there. He remembered us from our first time there, and again, we had an exceptional experience. At that time, we did find out who this young talented chef was so that in the future we could call ahead to make sure he was scheduled to be working. There has been a few times, that he was not working that we took our chances and used other chefs, and each time led to disappointment as the food never has any flavor. Ichibon has become our family favorite restaurant and we will continue to visit weekly provided that our food is prepared only by Mark. We recommend to all of our friends and family to go there and request him as their chef so that they will not be disappointed in the entertainment but more importantly the food. My wife and I love this place, and in my humble opinion - is one of the (if not the best) restaurant in Pasadena. I've never had bad service there - no snotty high school kids who would rather be texting or goofing off with their friends instead of providing service ( you hear me Chili's and Applebees?). No, the waiters and waitresses are always polite and professional, and the food is always fresh and top notch. Our favorites are the snow crab roll and the various hand rolls, but never had anything there that I didn't like. My wife and I always sit at the bar, and the nights when Gina is working is extra special. Gina is a hoot and one of the best servers in town - always polite and funny, and just an all around friendly person. For the sushi purists, you might do better at Miyakos or Azuma in Houston. But if you want sonething healthy and to be treated like a welcome customer and not a pest, there is no place better in Pasadena. read more

We went in a large group for the hibachi table, it was excellent! Our chef was fantastic and entertaining, the service was quick and the food was delicious! I ordered the spicy tuna roll and several in my party ordered the hibachi steak, chicken and scallops. They all raved about their dishes. I will definitely be back. read more

This place was mercilessly annoying. Our waitress ignored us all night, and was nearly impossible to track down. Our food was ok; the crawfish fried rice was bland and tasteless. The Little Dragon roll had horribly burnt seafood on top too. The busser was in our face all night, reaching across our table for plates and glasses without asking or announcing himself. The sushi is fresh and very inexpensive. It can get crowded and slow during Wednesday $1 sushi, and towards the end of the 3-7pm happy hour, so go early for faster service. The sushi and entrees are pretty standard - nothing terribly adventurous - but fresh and reliably well prepared. We have become weekly regulars and are very much rewarded for our regular attendance. We get excellent friendly service and once in a while a free treat will come our way from the kitchen. We will continue to be regulars :) If you want a reliable and relatively inexpensive sushi meal, this is a great place. We go to this restaurant often... Today as we finished our meal, sitting at the bar, a roach crawled over the counter to my plate.... I pointed it out to our waiter and nobody seemed surprised or upset.... We paid our bill and left. What had been a good meal ruined by a gross insect and, judging by the reaction (or lack there of) of the staff, roaches may be common ...and I don't like roaches in my meals. Even sushi. This is the only edible, slightly Japanese restaurant in Pasadena. Their happy hour specials are great and they are almost always busy but the service doesn't make up for the food. I just spoke with the owner. He explained what happened and was deeply and sincerely apologetic. I was incredibly impressed with how he handled the situation (and how quickly he got to the bottom of what happened). He thanked me for my review because it revealed a problem that he needed to address (and that impressed me as well). He obviously CARES about his customers and that is what makes all the difference in the world!! He asked where we went when we left and I told him we all went home (the party disbursed and everyone went to their own homes) because it was late and the kids were tired. He felt even worse after learning we went home after we left. He invited us back and will have a birthday cake for my daughter and will be there in person to meet us when we return. I left there last Saturday night, very angry and thinking I would never go back, but after speaking with the owner, I will definitely be back and I recommend others go as well. I am changing my review, even though we haven't gone back yet, based upon his reaction to the problem, his quickly addressing the issue, and his sincere apologies. To me, it is most important how you address issues that occur, and I feel he went above and beyond anything we could have expected. My friend and I came here for lunch and will not be returning. The restaurant want not crowded and we loved it but the service was horrible. We laughed at the service we got by saying we probably got better service at a McDonald's drive thru. Our waiter talked to us like he was just passing by and rushing to other tables. My husband and I used to eat here at least once a week, sometimes twice. We like to sit at the bar and would often see the other regulars but they have all quit coming. I don't know what changed but this place has steadily declined. The quality of the sushi rolls have also. They look more and more sloppy every time we go. This last time the rice was so hot when they were rolled that it cooked the fish inside. The rolls fell apart the last few visits. We LOVE the pepper tuna but this last time the pieces of tuna were dry and warm like they aren't kept properly. The service was absolutely awful...nonexistent actually. They weren't busy and we were there for happy hour. We ordered 2 rolls to start off with and our waitress never showed back up. We usually keep ordering but my husband had to go find her after 20 minutes so he went ahead and asked for our bill. We usually spend at least $100 every time we go. We wanted to add another person which would be an additional $20. this was fine but they would not get a spring roll. This made no sense to me as there was no discount for adding another person but they were going to give us less food. Mangager refused to add the one spring roll and was rude. We have been here several times, but this is our last! The hostess is rude, the waiters are rude, they don't know what simple syrup is, not even the bartenders. Don't criticize them either because they will put something in your food that will make you very sick! They brought my food 10 minutes before my husband, so I waited patiently for them to bring his! Was barely out of the restaurant when my stomach issues began, every 10 minutes thereafter. Called the manager and his response was "if you have to go to the ER, bring the bill to us, we have insurance for this purpose" no apology, nothing, probably wasn't the manager anyway. I've tried this ichibon twice so far and won't ever be back after the last time. When I walked in the hostess was busy speaking to a server and didn't acknowledge customers walking in. We went and sat at the bar, 5 minutes passed as well as several servers, I finally slowed one down and had to ask for service, we've yet to receive menus or a greeting but the server said "i'll find someone" and ran off. A few more moments went by and we were finally greeted at this point I was already irritated it was my lunch break and wasted 15 minutes just trying to get service and a drink order. Personally I ordered the chirashi my friend ordered the lunch special it took awhile to get the soup and salads out after we received our meal our server went missing our waters were only filled once by a busser he also removed our dishes and grabbed ponzu sauce for us since our server was yet to check in. When it was time for the check our server was present and she kept showing up I guess to try and work on her tip at the last minute. today is April 23,2013 and I went to eat at Ichi bon in Pasadena Texas with a party of 10 to celebrate a birthday. I will start off by saying that it was all 10 of our first choice on places to eat and we had been planning it for weeks, as we were set at the table we discovered the table had baby ROACHES!!!!!!!!! on it and as we got up and started killing them with sugar packets the staffed acted as if it was no big deal!! needless to say we will never return. While I enjoy the food and the "show" at the hibachi tables, I will NEVER, EVER, EVER return to this place. While I was eating my food, a ROACH crawled onto my tale and was heading straight for my steak. The waitress saw it and called the manager/owner (who wasn't even at the restaurant by the way). I was insulted when she came back with a $5.00 discount on our ticket. I was there with my son and my mom, so our bill was $60+ and the discount was $5.00? We couldn't eat our food because we were so grossed out wondering what the kitchen looks like. I have an autoimmune illness (Crohn's) and can't take the risk of eating food at a restaurant that isn't kept clean. My mom insisted that at least my meal be removed from the bill and that was finally done by the poor waitress who was put in the middle of this mess by the owner. We paid the bill, left the food and left the sweet waitress a tip. Again, we will NEVER return to this place! read more
