Loved the AYCE option (only $23 per person). The only BAD thing was their sushi/nigiri. They put wayyy too much rice and the slice of fish was SO thin :((. They tasted/ looked old like they had sitting for multiple hours. Did not like any of the sushi/nigiri at all unfortunately. BUT their rolls and appetizers were AMAZING. We ordered so many appetizers (Egg roll, gyoza, crab rangoon, shrimp tempura, takoyaki, and harumaki). The only app we didn't like was the shrimp tempura, it tasted like pancakes lol. I've been here many times, but the waiter this time went above and beyond being so attentive to remove all our empty plates and brought us everything we asked for (spicy mayo, ginger, wasabi) really promptly. We always do the AYCE here as the soup and jalapeño bombs are some of our favorite apps to get alongside the sushi rolls. Two of the rolls we got were new on the menu (the crunch Godzilla and sea angel) and both were really yummy. As abundant as AYCE sushi options are in Houston, the majority of them are a total crapshoot and sometimes it's a bust. The latter would apply for Edo Japan, which opened up this location in Southeast Houston just before the pandemic began. It's been a hit with the local crowd mainly due to their affordable prices and lack of nearby competition. Even though the place is only a few years old, one wouldn't know it based on the way it looks outside. The fact it's in a corner location of a mini strip mall is big deal and there is no shortage of solid parking. The interior is fairly large with a good mix of different sized tables that could accommodate all party sizes. The bathrooms are a bit unsightly, so I'd recommend not going if at all possible. The good news is that this place is relatively affordable, especially for lunch. Their prices are $15.99 for their lunch special, which ends at 3pm. The Sunday all-day prices are $22.99 with their sashimi deluxe all you can eat pricing at $28.99. All things considered, this is a good deal, especially for post pandemic AYCE'ing. The bad news is that the food was bad. I understand mediocre quality is to be expected at places like this but I lost count at how many little things bothered me throughout my meal experience. The tuna nigiri had a dry, almost leathery feel and many of the rolls had a fishy after taste to them. Even the cooked stuff was drenched in sauce and there were very generous with the rice (#1) portions. It was one of the rare occasions in which I actually liked the hot food more than the raw stuff. The bar is tremendously low here, so take the feedback with a grain of salt. The last thing that I had to detract from my initial score was solely on our service. Our waitress rarely acknowledged my table and was generally unavailable when our group needed her. No smiles, or friendly encounters. The manager sitting in the front does a lot of delegating but not much service stuff, minus taking money for folks. Most everyone here speaks English and mandarin. We were looking for a cheap sushi fix towards southeast Houston and stumbled across this local spot off of I-45 S! It's one of 3 Edo locations (the others being in Texas City and Pearland) offering probably the most affordable AYCE sushi lunch special you can find in Houston for $15.99 per person. The menu is focused but satisfying, offering a basic array of appetizers, soups/salads, nigiri sushi, maki, and specialty rolls. While we were eager to try a variety of things on the menu, I saw most other diners loading up on the well-portioned nigiri, which proved quite satisfying - the fish-to-rice ratio was respectable and the high turnover meant that the goods were fresh! The specialty rolls are largely California or shrimp tempura variations, which you can decode using the à la carte menu - we really liked the Fire Stone and Salmon Lover, though it wasn't hard to choose when we already eliminated all the rolls with cream cheese in them (basically half the menu). The fried tofu and grilled/teriyaki shrimp were cooked to order and served piping hot, which were a nice change of pace between rounds of sushi. Service is friendly and efficient, though when we came around 1:45 pm they did seem a little understaffed for the number of tables that were filled up. Dinner/sashimi pricing is almost double the lunch cost, which to me makes it less likely I'd make the drive out here compared to traditional sushi joints or even Masa in Sugar Land. But for what it's worth, I'd be happy to swing by to support them again if I found myself in the area craving affordable sushi - and above all, a great deal for my wallet. ;) read more

Great all you can eat sushi spot. Everything tasted really yummy. I especially enjoyed the pepper tuna tataki and salmon nigiri. Everything was freshly made. Try the fried banana with vanilla ice cream! Our server was really nice and helpful. It does get pretty busy, we went early Friday evening and felt that the service fell off once many tables got seated. Overall a good experience however, I started to feel kind of out of it halfway through the meal - not sure if that was because of the food or maybe being tired. I wish I would have just gotten grocery store sushi. the crab tasted as if it had gone bad, I've eaten at sushi yoto, yamas kitchen, and this is the first time I've ever had crab taste so bad. Even my husband didn't like it and he eats everything. The setting was nice and spacious but I didn't like how they sat people behind us and when they would move we would shake from all their movements. The food also took a bit to come out even when it was not busy. The cream cheese ragoons was good I thought it would have crab but thankfully it didn't. Ever since moving away from Reno, NV I've been craving AYCE sushi. Lucky for me, this restaurant isn't too far from my house so I begged my family to bring me for my birthday. We went on a Saturday so I looked up peak times to avoid a crowd. The internet suggested to go between 3-5 pm so that's what we did. The place was pretty empty just as I had hoped. We were seated right away and the host explained how the AYCE works. If I remember right, you can order everything on the little paper form but you can upgrade to include sashimi as well for a bit extra. (I was the only one to upgrade, but in hindsight just buying the regular AYCE would have been fine since I ended up not eating much sashimi.) Since it was our first visit, our server was very polite and patient with us. She answered all our questions. We didn't feel rushed. We all started off with glasses of water with lemon, and me and Mom ordered the Peach Fruit Crush cocktail. There were two large flatscreen TVs to watch and some trendy pop music playing quietly in the background while we waited on our food and drinks. My only two complaints were that I was being blinded by sunlight coming in from a large window across from us, and there were some little water puddles on our table (likely from condensation off the previous guests' drink glasses). Aside from that, everything was clean and comfortable. We ordered a bunch of different rolls and nigiri to share, mindful that leftovers would be an additional charge. That's nothing new. It's common practice back in Reno. I don't know why people here act so outraged over being charged for food waste. All our orders came out quickly and accurately. I've got to say, any of the rolls that included tempura sweet potato were delicious, as was the yellowtail nigiri. The flavor was so smooth and buttery! I was honestly sad I didn't have room to eat more! Another minor gripe was the surf clam nigiri. The first one I ate was very sandy. It tasted fine, but it wasn't fun to chew with all the grit. The second piece was perfect, though. No sand at all. There are a lot of cooked rolls which is nice for customers like my husband who aren't too keen on raw fish. The clear soup was a touch on the salty side, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Hubby said his takoyaki was spot on. The lady's restroom could have been a little cleaner. I had to pop in for a moment and the stall I used had a waste basket with no covering, so you could see all the used feminine products which is pretty gross. Other than that, restroom was otherwise fine. We were all so full afterward that we politely declined the offer of ice cream for dessert. We couldn't eat another bite! Edo Japan off Fuqua recently started an AYCE option for lunch/dinner so we had to try it. This review is solely based on their AYCE lunch. Overall Edo Japan was just ok. Don't get me wrong, their AYCE lunch special right now is the best bang for your buck when it comes to sushi. At $15.99, the sushi they are offering is a steal. But keep in mind, quality of the sushi matches the price. All the specialty rolls we had like the salmon lover, tuna lover, dynamite roll, shaggy dog, etc. were a little underwhelming. Nothing tasted bad, but nothing stood out in a good way either. Presentation of all our rolls though was really nice! They used a boat to present it, and it had that wow factor when it first came out. The AYCE lunch also includes hibachi, appetizers, salads, soup, nigiri, maki rolls, or hand rolls. We did appreciate that they followed covid protocols. Masks are required, hand sanitizer is available, and tables are adequately spaced apart. Service here was pretty good also. For this part of South Houston, Edo Japan isn't bad especially for the price. Just don't go expecting authentic sushi, it's definitely more Americanized sushi with lots of sauce or other toppings to mask the fish. Also be sure to not waste any food because they will charge you for wasting food. I'd recommend coming here at least once though, the AYCE option is a really good deal! First time visiting, we selected the AYCE option to dive in on the sushi. The food took some time to come out and it did not seem like many people were dining in. Out of the 6 rolls ordered, we had a solid 1 that was really good, the others were all meh. Biggest downside was the snapper nigiri I tried that tasted like it had been sitting in dish water... & I tried the fried ice cream at the end and there wasn't much ice cream, mainly the batter so perhaps it soaked threw the batter. This place is pretty solid. Walked in excited to check out this new sushi place opened up near my place. Everyone wears mask when you enter. There was a lunch special going o nowhere you can order 3 traditional rolls for $12! Definitely ordered those along with some specialty rolls as well. Everything was honestly a hit with me and my friends. We especially loved the crispy salmon skin. It was so good! The crab Rangoon was tasty as well. Very crispy and creamy in the middle. All of the sushi was solid and tasted very fresh. Will definitely return and probably become a regular since it's so close to home. P.S. service was amazing! Dude spilled the sauce that comes with the pepper tuna all over my leg, didn't apologize for it 4. He asked us if we were ordering anymore. We told him that we were but we still had a decent amount of food on the table and we're just looking at the menu for now so it'll be a little bit. This dude just stood right there staring us down and 30 secs later after just asking us (and listening to us figure out what kinda sounded good to try) he starts asking us if we were gonna order again. This is the best all you can eat restaurant I've ever been to in my life. It's on the outskirts of town and even though I'm surrounded by wonderful restaurants, I still eagerly drive the 35 minutes to eat here because it's that good. The interior is cute, super casual and oddly comfortable. The booths are wooden and substantial and you don't feel like you're super close to other tables which I love. My mom and I came on a Sunday and we were pleased to see it was $21.99 per person all day, a great deal if you come ready to eat. You order by checking off items on a paper menu, which is so convenient and honestly the ideal "all you can eat" set up, all the food you want without other customers touching and breathing on the food. So much better than buffet style restaurants. You are charged for what you don't eat, and allowed to take home whatever may be left over obviously. I think this saves them a lot of money and waste, which in turn they use to buy ingredients that are actually high quality and taste amazing as opposed to a lot of other all you can eat places. The service is attentive and friendly and our server was able to describe menu items thoroughly and colorfully. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options here. The avocado cucumber rolls are literally the best tasting sushi I've ever had in my life. Everything is fresh and well thought out, and BEAUTIFULLY presented. They take presentation seriously and honestly their little sushi boats and wooden trays are prettier than even upscale places like Nobu. The water also tasted so good like they used a good filter, it was definitely not plain tap water like a lot of restaurants serve. All you can eat sushi for $19.99, really really good sushi and a ton of other options including appetizers, salads and a few hibachi items. Let's get to what was for dinner. ------------------------------------------------ Appetizers : Rock Shrimp - 10/10 Crispy, perfectly fried rock shrimp with a creamy slightly spicy sauce. Melt in your mouth fried shrimp are hard to come by but it happened and can't wait to get them again. Gyoza - 7/10 Great pan fried dumplings that were as good as if not better than most . Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura - 7/10 Nice and crunchy, as good as any other sushi joint. All the sushi and nigiri were phenomenal except for one roll, The Cow Boy roll. It sounds great but had a surprise sauce that turned what may have been a good roll into an inedible one. Try if you must but you have been warned. Lol. On a date with my wife, if she's happy I'm always happy, I am very picky with my sushi, and rolls, they were really good, my wife loved the sweep potato roll, for me it was the massago and the teriyaki steak, and shrimp. In the end regardless of food, flavors, and quality, this place has an outstanding team, nothing but smiles, and very helpful, one waitress for the entire place, she apologized many times, we are never in a rush, so we don't feel delays or care about time, but she was thoughtful and helpful, the greeter at the front was extremely pleasant as well, I have tried a couple all you can eat places, this one was of a good quality for your buck, we spent $52 on a Sunday is a little bit more. I was brought here by a friend who said this place was sooo good so I gave it a shot & unfortunately was not very happy with the food I received or the service. I got the yummy California & the breading on the roll was thick & spongey & did not taste good I think the regular (non fried) California would've been better. I also got egg rolls & fried calamari & both tasted like it had frost bite or was cooked in old oil. The passion fruit cocktail I ordered tasted like straight pineapple juice which is weird because the drink didn't even say it had pineapple juice in it. I probably be won't be coming back. read more
