I've made that mistake before but thankfully a friend spotted me. The milk tea is awesome, doesn't have the fake sweet taste even though it's 100% sweetness. My personal favorite is the Jade Iced Lemon Tea with boba (without the lime dropped into the drink). They serve it in the hot drinks cup strangely but not big deal to me, I just want the drink. It's refreshing and always satisfies my sweet cravings. During my lunch hour, I usually call my order in and walk over to pick it up, all done under 15 minutes or so. There used to be stamp cards but now you can just enter your phone number (5 stars program?). They also sell flavored popcorn like kimchi and such, flavors that I haven't seen before for popcorn. I think this is a superb bubble tea place located in Oakland's Chinatown. They have a wide selection of teas, both regular brewed teas and milk teas. I ordered their signature iced milk drink that includes tapioca pearls, grass jelly, and pudding. This came in one sole size: large. It was cheap though! It was only $2.95 (I can't remember if tax was added to this price). Perhaps this particular drink was part of the happy hour deal as some of the items on the menu were circled -- can be seen in my pic. My friend ordered another milk tea drink, but I suppose it wasn't part of the happy hour deal since it was $4 and change. He said it tasted good so he wasn't complaining much. This is how I found i-tea: walking around Chinatown Oakland for the first time, trying to find a new roast pork/duck over rice spot to be a regular. Him, via text: "There's a line here for boba. Full of young, hip Asians." And that line of young, hip Asians did not disappoint. Definitely call your order ahead. Yes they do take cc. Long lines out the door! This was my first time in Oakland and while I was there, I was being a typical Asian, craving my boba tea. I checked my bookmarks and had nothing close to this area, so I checked the nearby tea spots and found this gem. The tea shop is located in a plaza, with the storefront facing the street. The parking structure attached to the plaza is a bit strange. I wasn't expecting a token coin to be dispensed from the meter. I was literally waiting for a ticket stub to come out. Parking isn't that bad. It's $1 for every 30 min and it only took about 1 hour to get tea and find a restroom. Finding a restroom on the other hand was hard. We had to ask security for a key and they took our driver's license. I don't know why their public restrooms have to be so secure like that. Anyway, onto the drink review. I ordered 5 drinks and got 1 free, so not bad considering I paid $20. I didn't have time to take photos because I was so thirsty! I got the matcha smoothie with red bean and it was bomb! This place is really great and like a hybrid of Purple Kow and ShareTea: they emphasize freshly brewed teas, customizable drink options, and Taiwanese toppings (e.g., pudding, grass jelly, taro, etc) all in a chubby cup. I think their boba isn't as qq or sweet as Sweetheart's down the block, but the tea is definitely superior. I'm a huge fan of the Okinawa Milk Tea and the 3 Brothers Drink. Note the official address for i-Tea places it on 9th St, but the storefront actually faces Webster St. This tiny little shop packs a mighty punch, offering about 100 different varieties of bubble teas and smoothies -- a staggering amount. There is no space for seating inside (and hardly any for standing for that matter). This is strictly a to-go joint. What little interior space there is could make some people feel claustrophobic. It doesn't help that long menus and a tightly packed row of over a dozen tall tea canisters block customer views into the kitchen. I think the typical open-kitchen format most bubble tea shops utilize would help here. Teas come in one size only and cost about $3-5 each with additional toppings $0.50 extra each. Cash only. Aside from black and green tea, which are commonly used to make bubble tea, i-Tea brews with several other different types of tea such as tieguanyin (premium Chinese oolong tea), Chinese fermented pu-erh, jasmine, Alishan oolong, Irish, Indian Assam, Royal Rose, osmanthus oolong, Earl Grey, and more. Samples of these tea leaves are displayed inside glass jars on the counter. There's also an espresso machine behind the payment counter used to make i-Tea's "Teaspresso Milk Tea." If bubble teas are normally too sweet for you, you can customize your drink's sweetness level. Sweetness options are 0%, 30%, 50%, 80%, and standard. Ice level is customizable too: 0%, 30%, 80%, standard, and more ice. Service is great. Drinks are made to order and the staff is efficient. Got the drink and it was extremely sugary as if I'm drinking a milkshake. Went back in and the attitude starts. This is probably my favorite Boba place around! Their variety of tea and topping options is far superior to most other spots in the area. They also have great specialty drinks like créeme brûlée boba and my favorite mango sago which doesn't have boba but smaller tapioca and fresh pieces of mango in it, its just delicious. I recently also tried their "panda boba" which was traditional milk tea with both regular and agar boba which I found interesting! Their regular boba tastes fresh and chewy but the agar boba has a bit more bite to it and felt more like a jelly which presented an interesting contrast. They, like many other places, also let you pick your level of sweetness and ice which I always appreciate but be careful! I recently got 80% sweet and I found it EXTREMELY sweet and would definitely get 50% next time. Real taro in my taro slush? Yes, I will have that. You've probably already heard that this place is tiny and doesn't take card. They will also take a super long time to make your drink, but man, it's good. I mean, there are actual chunks of taro inside your taro slush, but what makes this place so much closer to LA ones is the fact that they'll throw in tofuhua, red bean, and/or pudding into their drinks. The authenticity reminds me a lot of SoCal. You can tell they're taking their time because the teas are brewed on-order, and they're crafting your drink with care. The menu is huge, but their signature drinks are all fantastic. Look for anything that says "signature drink" or is highlighted in red (the black milk tea, tofuhua milk tea, red bean milk tea, taro milk tea, etc.) on their menu. Oh, they do chubby cups like Purple Kow. The only thing that kind of sucks about this place (other than the space and wait) is the fact that it's in Oakland. This is one of my go to places for boba in Chinatown. LOVE the grass jelly here. Super smooth and they give you big chunks. I find that for boba milk tea or grass jelly milk tea, they usually give you the bigger sized cup which is nice. The milk tea it self is also very smooth. It's not watery or grainy. It is just the perfect taste and consistency. If anyone remembers Chatime, I thought they had the best milk tea ever!! As far as tea shops go these days, your run of the milk tea runs the gamut from being watered down to straight up extravagant coming in some obscene transportation (see: light bulb, jars, etc). So to find a tea shop that actually hits all the right notes for a fair price...well that's a real gem. Best tea place in the Bay Area!! I would give this place more stars if I could. It's a chain but this location is way better than the rest (not to say the other locations aren't also good). Honestly, I want to give this place more stars (since they have a lot of flavour options), but the staff here are ridiculously bad. I've been here a few times already (maybe ~10 total), and literally every time the staff member taking orders has been inattentive and rude, with the best case being just neutral. One example: today I went in, the staff was talking on the phone with an order, which would be fine...even though I'm the one who bothered to show up in person. BUT after she was finished on the phone, she spent an additional 3-5 min fooling around with a machine behind her, without any acknowledgement or apology, then just turned around afterwards and stared at me to order (again without any welcome or apology for wasting my time). I have gotten the 3-toppings drink (milk tea with pudding, grass jelly, boba) & milk green tree w/boba. Each cup is big, like 20oz or something. Price is good for it. It's delicious and the customization (sugar level, ice etc.) is great. There's usually a long line and wait. But I think that's due to the small space of the shop and small staff size more than anything else. Hence, the 4-star. read more

Pretty decent milk tea, not bad but not as good as yelp reviewers said. I ordered their Jade milk tea with panna cotta, it was ok but not memorable except it tasted like a lot of coconut milk flavor in the panna cotta ( although I thought panna cotta was made with whole milk). Line always long, small place for waiting.. then the waiting for your tea is also long too. Average wise.. you need to wait about 10 mins to order and another 10 mins to get your drink. I was able to count it since I was very bored waiting my drink LOL Is it worth it? It's ok, only if you have time then yea. Probably is faster if you take a BART and go to downtown Berkeley and buy a milk tea tho. read more
