I actually saw a groupon and set up an appointment by phone for a hot stone massage. I have had alot of issues with my neck, feet, and back lately and my chiropractor thought a massage may assist in loosening up the muscles and working through the soreness. I made the appointment by phone and she told me to show up to the Riverside location and no need to purchase groupon. Ok, no problem. I went at the time scheduled. It was clear the man at the front desk did not speak any english or atleast was severely limited which was fine. he handed me a list of services. I then showed him that I was there for the hot stone full body massage and showed him the groupon that I had yet to purchase per my instruction. He said ok and led me to a room. had 2 essential oils in his hand and I chose the rose one. I prepared and then he came back in.I told him my specific needs was in my neck, upper back and hands/feet area as I had alot of pain in all. I pointed to the areas as I explained. He knodded that he understood. He put quite a bit of oil all over me then He spent a great deal of time on my scapula and mid to lower back with very deep pressure being applied which was nice. He did check to ensure pressure was good. This is not like a normal hot stone massage and I've had many. Stones were used but in very fast movements so not extremely relaxing and wow were they almost unbearably hot. I finally asked him by pointing and demonstrating to please do my neck as it needed the most work. He finally did but for a very short time and unfortunately it was more grabbing the neck than massaging and did not relax the muscles at all. He then did other parts of my body for a short period of time probably due to spending most of my hour strictly on my back. I did ask to him to please do my hands as requested when I saw he had passed them up. He did that momentarily but it was ok. Then he said I was done. I asked him to complete my feet as originally discussed. he said no feet, only full body. (?). I said, my feet are part of my full body. He said no, that is a different massage.I got dressed, though a bit disappointed, and went and looked at menu as I knew I needed to get a foot massage. The only one they had was an addl $32 for an hr. good price but I didnt have an hour. I asked him if I could do 30 mins. he said no, only one hour. there was clearly a language barrier. He then kept showing me the 1 hr massage and 30 minutes of foot massage for like $76.00 ( Or close to that). I was trying to explain that I was already getting groupon pricing of $46 so it wouldnt make sense for me to pay additional package price of $30 to get a 30 minute foot massage when I could buy it separately and get an hour. I finally just said, its okay, let me just pay you the $46 to cover the groupon price. I pulled out my credit card and he went to take it, then showed me a card that said all credit card payments require an additional $2 fee. By this time I am just laughing. I am saving you $$ by not using groupon as they will take a big chunk of your profit, the language barrier has cost me an important part of my massage, and now I am being penalized for not just buying the groupon by absorbing your fees to CC company. as a business owner I will just tell you that charging customer your CC fees will not be popular at all. So I rejected that notion of paying their fees, pulled out my phone, purchased the groupon instead thus paying what I agreed to pay and utterly costing them more unfortunately as their profits lessoned. you are probably wondering why I am still leaving 3 stars after all of this? It is solely because the back massage part was atleast decent, I had his undivided attention I felt throughout the massage, I feel if we did not have the language barrier things could have possibly been worked through easier, and last but certainly not least, he always seemed polite and gracious in his mannerisms. The down side of why they only received a 3 is due to me leaving not feeling any more relaxed than when I began, maybe more frustrated which is never how you want to leave a massage. I know this location is new so hopefully based on the reviews I have read, they will work hard to bring things together so that they have happy customers moving forward. read more
