I want to share an honest review of my used car purchase from Hyundai Carson, which was unfortunately very disappointing. As a woman buying from a dealership for the first time, I was naturally nervous. And, as it turned out, with good reason. To be discussed in this review: Test drive experience, Warranty purchase and refund issues, Romantic advances, Car mechanical issues shortly after purchase, Customer service experience. To preface, I didn't go into the situation blind. I researched extensively beforehand, negotiated the price before my appointment, and secured a tentative loan with my bank. On the day of, the one positive was Rosie, who assisted me during the test drive, helped transfer my belongings to my new car, offered to take pictures, and was genuinely kind and personable -- she made that part of the day pleasant. After the test drive, I did paperwork with salesperson Oscar Perez. He seemed friendly and trustworthy at first, but early on made a questionable joke about the front office staff's education when I pointed out a misspelling of my job title. He said the misspelling made sense because "most probably hadn't even completed high school...just kidding." As we moved through paperwork, Oscar offered an extra warranty (3 years, 36,000 miles for $3,695) and mentioned a 1% lower interest rate on my loan to incentivize me. Although not unusual sales tactics, I later learned the warranty was widely considered overpriced. When I tried to calculate what the monthly payment difference would be on my loan if I got the warranty, Oscar brushed off my questions, implying I was doing the math wrong while assuring me I was getting a good deal. This evasiveness felt shady. I ended up buying the warranty, partly due to my own lack of prior research, but once I realized it wasn't a good value, I cancelled within 30 days, which Oscar processed without resistance. Unfortunately, reimbursement issues persist. Oscar informed me the refund would take 4-6 weeks. It's now been over 8 weeks, and my loan provider said they haven't received a check from the dealership. Meanwhile, I am continuing to accrue interest. I've emailed Oscar twice for updates with no response. During small talk, Oscar shifted to personal topics, asking if I was single and where I lived, which felt inappropriate given the setting. A week after buying the car, he texted me on the number I provided for paperwork (which I hadn't shared personally) to ask me out to dinner. I declined, and he did not press further. Beyond the sales experience, the car itself developed problems early on. I understand used cars won't be perfect, but I expected a thorough inspection to avoid immediate repair costs on a $20k+ vehicle. Within days, the brakes started squeaking constantly. About a week after purchase, after leaving my car unused for a few days, it wouldn't start. Being a hybrid, I manually inserted the key and jump-started it with the car's battery, so at least I didn't have to pay for a tow. I learned this issue is often caused by a low battery in the key fob, which I promptly replaced. Despite this, my car has died two more times after similar short rests. Before my test drive, the dealership mentioned the car was dead when they had went to grab it, but claimed it due to an open trunk, which now seems questionable or uninformed. Customer service also disappointed. A month after purchase, I found my floor mats missing and called the dealership, assuming they forgot to put them back in after detailing it. The person on the phone explained used car sellers often buy their own floor mats and remove them before selling, which might be true, but the original listing was already taken down, so I couldn't verify if mats were included. I asked the contact to check on the mats, and though he said he would call me back, he never did. I caution others to be very vigilant and prepared if considering Hyundai Carson. read more

I stopped by to see what they had, and after I looked at the car, I asked for some numbers--like any normal person would at a dealership. But before they'd even discuss the price, they insisted on running a hard credit check. I told them no, I'd be happy to run it later if I was interested in the deal, but I wanted to see some numbers first. Their response? "No way, we did that before and wasted 2-3 hours structuring an offer and lost a deal because of it." The attitude was absolutely ridiculous. No other dealership I've been to treats people this way. I leased my car from Carson Hyundai. When my lease ended, I brought the car back to return it. Initially, the staff were polite and asked for my driver's license and registration to proceed with the return. They then asked if I was planning to get a new car. I told them I was not. After that he spoke with his supervisor, they informed me that they couldn't accept my car due to limited parking space. I asked again, "if I get the new car from here, are you going to accept the lease return?" They confirmed they would. This dealership already profited when I leased the car from them, but now they refuse to accept the return, likely because they don't profit from this process i am guessing. This is extremely poor customer service, and I wasted so much time here. I ended up going to South Bay Hyundai, where I had no issues returning the car. Hyundai Carson sold me a CPO used 2024 Palisade Limited with two tires with low tread (5) and two new replacement tires (tread-9). Two tires were replaced because of low tread (4) but they did not replace the other two tires because the tread was at 5. This is a serious safety hazard. I was not told the older tires had tread that low. I should not have had any concerns with the tread wear since the mileage on the Palisade was 14,300. A car or SUV with such low mileage should not have any tread wear issues. Hyundai Carson refused to help me out with this situation saying it was within their rights to sell a car with low tread (5). I got approved to co sign for my mother but she wasn't comfortable with her name being no where on the paperwork (so technically I wasn't co signing the car was simply approved for me) so I came back and tried to trade in my 2017 Volkswagen R-line Passat & they told me I wasn't approved and instead ran my mother who was approved... Obviously they were clearly playing games & then proceeded to make my mother & I feel as if we didn't belong. Then the sales manager made 15 hard inquiries on my credit report & kept running my credit even long after my mother & I were gone. They did that to be spiteful not to see if I may get approved by other lenders. Reliability was my top priority, along with finding a reputable dealer that had a service center or was tied to a network of service centers. In the event of emergency maintenance or service, I didn't want to be overwhelmed with having to vet mechanics, scramble for rentals, or pay out of pocket. Been there, done that, and it's not fun and too consuming! I also didn't want to hop on the Tesla train because everything is automated, and when it comes to purchasing a vehicle, especially with questions and unexpected situations and mechanical issues, I don't think going through bots makes things easier. That said, I spent days sifting through dealership listings that included way smaller lots that didn't seem to meet the criteria I felt would support my needs. Then, this dealership popped up on my feed, and they sent me an email. The email was professional, and they called once to check in on me. It wasn't automated, and none of the communication felt like spamy. It was a real person, and that stuck out to me. When I visited their website, it was legit, well-presented, and up to date. When I went to the dealership in person, all the pictures and details matched exactly. These were huge GREEN flags for me because I'm a bit of a Type C personality. I'm analytical, like low drama, I like to bounce ideas and build out frameworks based on my needs, and I appreciate places that operate efficiently and can meet me where I'm at. I showed up on a Saturday, and everything went fairly smoothly at first. However, I ran into a bizarre situation that was more on the manufacturer than the dealership with my purchase. It started off stressful but ended up being a true testament to great customer service. There was definitely some miscommunication, and one of the managers I had been working with was off, so things felt a bit out of sync the following day. His input was definitely important in all of this. What really stood out to me was how the entire team came together to fill in the gaps. Everyone was genuinely trying their best to problem solve, step in, make sure I was taken care of, and keep things moving until he returned. We all decided it would be best to pick up where we left off when he got back the next day. In the meantime, we discussed new plans, they made sure I got home safely, and had everything I needed. As soon as my original point of contact, Oscar (Finance Manager), returned that next day, he called me before I even had a chance to get back to the dealership to get my eta and to let me know everything was basically fine and handled. From that conversation, I could tell that everyone had genuinely been doing their best to accommodate me and was on it! While at the dealership completing my purchase, the entire team had been checking in, keeping me updated, bouncing ideas and juggling this situation while still working with other clients. Once I got back to the dealership, everything was smoothly resolved, and I was able to purchase a certified pre-owned vehicle with a VSC that fit my needs 100%. I also added their unlimited roadside assistance add on package, which was cheaper than AAA, which I've used all my life, and NO, they didn't try to upsell me on it. I had already researched it and asked about it myself as well as explored other add ons they may have offered that was competitive or comparable to other services I was using in the past. I really felt like I drove the conversation and kept it clear by communicating my needs, and they took that information to build out various recommendations tailored to me. The decision ended up being clear and easy because I was able to compare my research against their offerings and just choose. I'm old school and have mentioned this in other reviews, but these days it's rare to find a team that genuinely prioritizes customer service. I really appreciated their patience and the two-way conversations they had with me to ensure I left happy and cannot give them enough props on this! Nothing felt forced or fake. They had the patience of saints because I ask a lot of questions when making big decisions, but I also pay close attention to sincerity, attitude, and reciprocity, and their character really showed throughout the entire process. If you're looking for a dealership that provides quality service, has a strong service network, and will go the extra mile to make things right when challenges arise, I'd definitely recommend Carson Hyundai. So have a 3rd time the car is still shaking when breaking to a stop. We decide to go to Torrance for service this time. They put in the VIN# and low and behold there are no notes that they at Carson Hyundai has ever serviced this car for rotors. They in fact did this twice before this 3rd time at Torrance. No where in the service record does it say rotors. Reason being is to make the owners look like they have neglected the cars needs. Folks be careful read your service records and make sure you are getting the proper notes in the records and in paper when you leave. I have all my records because I document all my dealings. If you don't write it down it didn't happen. Keep a calendar something. We qualify for the lemon law. These people are not in your side. They are on the side of the manufacturers that's where there money comes from. So be cautious n keep notes of who you speak with, take pics if possible. I did when dropping off. The two sales reps I worked with were courteous and friendly. However - and it's a big however - they completely tried to swindle me. Lmao. I got the classic bait and switch after discussing a specific vehicle and a lease special. Spent a lot of time discussing the options and scheduled a time to come in the next day to pick up the car. All of a sudden, the monthly payment on the car increased by MORE THAN DOUBLE - almost triple, actually - what was previously advertised. I knew the total payment would be higher than what was advertised on the lease special due to taxes and fees. However, the price I was quoted was absolutely absurd. The rep was not willing to come down on the price whatsoever - not a single dollar. He added on multiple fees and packages that he said were standard, which drove up the monthly payment to a cost higher than many luxury vehicles. I walked away and went to another dealership (Norm Reeves) and got the same vehicle the very next day - for a price extremely close to what was advertised on the lease special, and literally LESS THAN HALF of what Hyundai Carson tried to charge me for the EXACT SAME CAR. I took a few days to debate whether I should write this review or not but they still pissed me off so here it is... I visited the dealer on a Sunday afternoon after getting a quote via TrueCar. My situation involved getting out of a loan on a vehicle with negative equity & to take advantage of the rebates offered on the EVs. My sister and I were helped by Omar, who seemed eager to assist. I made a joke about him popping up out of nowhere and he didn't laugh so I figured he was more on the serious side. Moving on I let my intentions be clear on what I was trying to accomplish mainly to get rid of the negative equity in my prior Hyundai. We explored IONIQ 5 and Ioniq 6 and based on my research, the 5 offered the best incentives. Omar said it would be the 6, strike one. I also let him know I qualified for the Hyundai grad offer and he said I didn't on a lease. Strike two. After confirming what I knew that I could do the grad incentive and the ioniq 5 was the best pick. We went inside to talk numbers. We did a pre-qual based on a soft pull. We negotiated and came to an agreement on a number which I thought was ridiculously low but hey let's do it. The finance guy that was covering from Harbor Hyundai (forgot his name) came to seal the deal and negotiated even more to a lower number that we shook on. Went to finance and agreed for them to pull credit officially. After that was done the finance manager asked for my payoff and I gave it to him and he was like wait we have a problem. Left away and It dawned on me that I bet someone dropped the ball with the negative equity part. Came back to renegotiate and some high ass price and I lost it. Strike three and I went off. I went off on him, told Omar learn to relay information correctly and told the three other people in there if they are smart run because they will do what they want to do not what you want them to do. Then told me just take the new car at the agreed price and payment and rent your car out to someone else and let them make the payment. I told them give me my keys and I'm out before they call the cops on me up in here. And whomever the manager is, shame on you for not even trying to come out here and see how to de escalate the situation and/or make things right. Wasted inquiries for nothing. Here's the kicker-that night I got an email from Omar saying "Thank you for your purchase and welcome to the Hyundai family" . Clearly they are all incompetent. Upon delivery, the floor mats were missing and the rear tow hook cover was missing. After being asked by David (sales) to go to the parts department and order the parts, then have the parts guy connect with the sales guy to approve the due bill. I declined the work being asked of me as they should handle it. The car was delivered with missing items. Not to mention all the glue I had to clean myself from a lack of proper PDI. They gave me a fair trade-in for my fully loaded (ICE) Rav4 which I loved and was in excellent condition (Toyota in Torrance wouldn't work with me and I would have paid more to buy it then what I'm paying now) Ask for my salesman, Jeff M. He has gone above and beyond with me. He's experienced, patient and listened to what I wanted and didn't use hard sell tactics. I went back at least 4x before I finally did a deal with them and looked at Konas and Ioniqs before I got the Tuscon. There is no comparison with the other salesmen I dealt with at the 5 or 6 other dealers. I was just back there today and Jeff put my plates on. BTW, I am Happy with my new SUV these past couple of months. I don't drive long distances, mostly busy city driving. But I'm getting over 400 - 420+ miles on one tank with two 2-hour charges per week. With $5 - $5.40 per gallon gas right now, I'm definitely saving money. I usually ask for the walk out the door price so I don't have to waste time going there. This dealership didn't tell me, but just invited me in to work out numbers. Based on the quotes I got from other dealerships, I didn't think it would be that bad. I spoke with Manny who offered to get me a Lyft since I didn't have a car at the time. I thought that was pretty nice but that's where his customer skills ended. After I test drove the car, I was presented with fees that were "inclusive" to the vehicle. This shot up price of the car to $25,279. After I rejected these fees, Manny came back with pricing that excluded 3 of the 4 initial "mandatory" fees. Now the car cost is $21,582. I asked the manager if they can remove the forever start battery protection. He said they were already giving the 3M protection coating of $699 to me for free since it's been removed from the final cost, but I know if I haggled long enough, they would take it away. Moving on to the financing, my bank already pre-approved e for a car loan up to $60k. I talked to them numerous times to get the details on how this worked and it was explained to me that a check would be overnighted to the dealership or I could get a quote from the dealership, then pick up the check to give to them. I told Manny this after he said they would run my credit which I refused since I'm looking for a new place to stay and didn't want a hit on my credit. He got really flustered and said I can leave now if I wanted because 1) he didn't understand the process well enough to explain it 2) he lacks the customer service skills to de-escalate. He had to get his manager to explain the process to me. He also didn't know the difference between the base model and the next model up for the hybrid. Someone please get this man, who appears to be well into his 40s already, some proper training. After that was sorted, there was some tension between me and Manny. Hopefully bc he knew he f'd up. I then went to the final process to discuss insurance and warranty. I was basically forced into getting the gap insurance and the platinum warranty. I had only agreed to it bc Oscar, the school's first FCU finance guy (that's how he introduced himself) explained to me that the pricing was good for School's first FCU members as myself. I was the last customer, worn down by the process, tired and hungry, and needed a car, so I stopped resisting. The final price was $23,326.85. I know part of these packages will be a commission that will go to Manny, who I don't think deserved it since all he did was take me for a test drive. I could've bought a 2023 Niro Hybrid top of the line with a sunroof for the same price at another dealership. Unfortunately I left the area before picking up the car so wasn't able to obtain it. If you have time to shop around, don't go here. My car seats were also not well cleaned. It has stains Don't believe the 4 or 5 star reviews! I had a bad experience with this dealership earlier today. Specifically, with a sales rep named Jerry. I went in to test drive a used three row SUV that I found online. When I arrived they had the car ready, which was great and I took it for a test drive. When I began the test drive I noticed a yellow alert light on the dash signaling the car had a problem. The problem ended up being the rear tire on the drivers side showing 19 PSI while the others were at a standard 40. While concerned that the dealership overlooked this (what else did they overlook, right?), I figured it wasn't a big enough deal to bother me much. However, when I returned to the dealership following the short test drive (5-10 minutes) the PSI dropped to 17 in the tire. This let me know there was a puncture on an expensive off-road tire specific to the car's spec. I notified the sales person Jerry when I returned to the dealership and when he asked if I wanted to discuss numbers I stated that I thought the car needed new tires because it is an AWD with a specific powertrain and you can't just replace one tire, and I obviously didn't want to buy a patched tire. He said he could make something work so we went inside to talk numbers. Once inside, Jerry provided me with a number that was $2k+ above MSRP for a NEW 2025 model of the exact same car despite the car in question being a 2024 with 25,000+ miles and a punctured rear tire. I told him that it wasn't personal but that we were very far apart in terms of numbers (hinting that this wasn't going to work). He pressed me for the number I was thinking, so I told him and he was very nasty in response stating the I "lowballed" him and was wasting his time. Mind you, it was pouring rain, nobody was in the dealership, and I drove 30 minutes in the rain to the dealership to test drive a car with a deflated tire. I politely got up walked out (to me it was not personal) and went down the street to the Honda dealership to look at cars because I had already driven all the way to Carson. At Honda, I was immediately greeted by a very professional salesperson who was shocked by my story, sat me down, and ran me through numbers on new 2025 models (they didn't have any used). The prices I received for a 2025 model of the SAME car were almost $8,000 LOWER than what Jerry was quoting for the 2024 model, with 25k miles and a punctured rear tire. I don't want to go so far as to say this dealership is unethical (I received very good service from another employee who corresponded with me via text message), but I figured I would share this experience with the public in the event it helps someone. AMAZING SERVICE IS ALIVE & WELL AT CARSON, HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE is as important to me as price. There are 100's of places, brands, & models to consider when buying a new car. I needed a new car lease. I searched deals to lease a 2024. I'm retired & on a tight budget. I went to many dealers for over a month with disappointment until I found Carson Hyundai. I knew nothing about Hyundai & this was my last resort before giving up. I was hoping to find a place with the perfect car and a salesperson that was knowledgeable and provided good customer service. Great service is EVERYTHING to me. It's tiring telling dealers exactly what you want, and they show you EVERYTHING YOU DID NOT ASK FOR. I came with my needs for the car. I wanted a knowledgeable salesperson that knew how to treat a potential buyer. As I walked the lot a young man walked towards me with a kind, pleasant smile. He introduced himself as Nate and invited us to sit & tell him what I wanted in a new car. I said I wanted to lease a mid-sized SUV. I needed safety, good gas mileage, a spacious cargo area, a good camera, & a car that displayed the speed limit. The sound was also important since I recently retired from the music industry. I clearly stated the amount I had for a down payment & my monthly budget. I was firm on my numbers. Apparently other lots NEVER listened to my requests because they always returned with numbers over my budget. Nate never said that my request was tough or something he could not do. He just asked if I had a choice of colors. I asked their policy for buying the car at the end of the lease because my other leases did not allow that. Nate explained that it is Hyundai's policy to sell the lease if the customer wanted to keep it and that every contract lists the purchase price, so I will know exactly what to expect at the end of my lease. Nate left for a few minutes and returned with a beautiful car. I LOVED the color. He showed me the car & explained the safety features. He opened the back to show me the cargo capacity. He invited us to sit in the front and the back to feel the comfort. No salesperson had ever mentioned checking for comfort. Nate fully explained the dash and all the features of the computer. It had the speed limit display that I wanted. He turned on the radio & I selected my favorite music to get a good sense of the sound quality since that was important to me. I love bass so Nate equalized the sound to make it PERFECT. We then went on a test drive. I knew the usual routine of having a pre-set route. I kept driving and finally asked "where should I turn?" Nate replied with "wherever you like, I want you to get a good feel of the car". I could not believe that he was not rushing me, remember it was late & just before closing. But again, I thought I was just popping in to look around and not expecting to actually find the perfect car and sales guy. While driving he was quiet but told me to ask him any question that I had. He told me to fully focus & enjoy on my driving experience with the car, and we could talk later. The car had so many amazing features so I just knew that the next phase would be to present prices that were beyond my budget. The cars handling, features & comfort felt expensive. Remember EVERY other dealer never presented anything in my range, in fact many were double over my budget. I LOVED THIS CAR, and Nate's service. I was dreading the next phase by being disappointed by the actual numbers. We went back inside and again I told Nate my budget & he said he remembered. This is why he brought this car to me. Nate left for a short time, and I expected him to return with the sales manager that would push prices on me that would not work. Instead, Nate returned with a written plan that surprisingly met all my needs. He asked if I could go 71 cents over the monthly budget. At this point I could have jumped with joy. He explained the INCREDIBLE Hyundai WARRANTY of 100,000 miles. I told Nate that I was now his "NEWEST" sale & we went to see the Finance Manager. His name was Andrew, and he was just as pleasant as Nate. These two were a "DREAM TEAM". I told him NATE was AMAZING, he said GREAT SERVICE was the culture of their family-owned dealership. Boy, did I drop into the right dealer! Nate asked if I would drop by the next day so he could help set up the app and all the functions of my car with my phone. So, I rolled out with a 2024 KONA loaded with everything asked for, & a GREAT DEAL. My experience was SPECTACULAR, as Tina Turner would say "SIMPLY THE BEST, BETTER THAN ALL THE REST". I LOVE my new car, this would not have happened without the AMAZING NATE. On a scale of 1-10, NATE WOULD BE A 1000! He understood my needs & delivered everything I asked for.
