The technician who came to look at our AC unit looked at the unit very quickly and said it needed to be replaced. Then he quoted us a price that was very high for the unit needed. The price was the same as a much larger unit we recently purchased for another part of our house. He also said he would give us a "discount" on duct work that was needed which seemed odd because our other new unit hadn't had that issue. We got a second opinion. The owner of another local company came personally and this is what we found out: 1) The unit will need to be replaced soon but can be serviced for now and will probably work another 6 months to a year. 2)The new unit will be much less than what Hyde's quoted 3) The duct work is included in the installation cost of the new unit. Honestly we feel that the Hyde's technician was trying to get a quick sale that was way overpriced. I'm glad we called another local company. read more

Today my Landlord sent Hyde's AC to run a diagnostic test on the AC unit where I and my family live. When the technician, FRANK *I PREVIOUSLY SAID IT WAS HECTOR AND BEFORE MIKE SAYS WE DONT HAVE A TECHNICIAN BY THAT NAME I THOUGHT ID EDIT IT. Anywho FRANK V., arrived he asked to see where the heater was located. Upon looking at the unit, we realized the cord was disconnected from the wall. Once it was plugged in the AC turned on. We assumed that was the issue and Hector proceeded to say it was the easiest $85 he had made, he mentioned he still wanted to look at the unit to verify that the cord being disconnected was the issue. The cord of the AC unit was also messed up and he said that he would see if that was the issue. He came in and out a couple of times to look at the heater section and the thermostat. We heard him on the phone with multiple people asking they knew where the fuse would be. The landlord let us know that they were just paying for the diagnostic and not expect the issue to be fixed since they had to call the LL so she can approve the charges. After about 30-45 minutes hector came back and said he was not able to find the fuse and once he did, he realized it was the issue and fixed it. He said he would call the Landlord and left. Now the Landlord wants us to pay a portion of the repairs since the technician went ahead on completed them without her permission. The technician did not even discuss it with us prior to continuing with the repairs, we had no chance of even being able to confirm with the landlord that the repairs should be done. I do not think this is best practice and this company obviously has bad integrity. Also, obviously, you wouldn't have my name on the system since my landlord (Let me simplify it, My landlord is the one that called the diagnostic test in) called it in. Also, your argument about the technician assuming we would want AC, FRANK DID NOT EVEN LET US KNOW WHAT WAS THE ISSUE WHEN HE WAS HERE UNTIL HE TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO REPAIR IT. THEN I CAN ASSSSSSUMEEE THAT FRANK WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIRS?! read more

I have a mix review here . I wanted to upgrade my thermostat to a smart one so i can control it remotely. I have a zoned system with three total thermosts. I called ahead , explaining my system and that i had a nest . I asked is it compatible..they said yes. I also explained I'll be at the house just one day , and the receptionist stated that the technician had all part on the truck including other thermostats if this one doesn't work . so here is where things went south . Thor the technician came and looked at my system. At which point he said that my nest doesn't work And that i need this other attachment to my system and then i should be able to control it remotely . What was supposed to be $200 is not $300. I was ok with it, as long as it worked ..of course the truck didn't have the promised parts...so i waited a week and he came back to install it only to find out that my main thermostat is not compatible with the router he attached to my system,,i now need a new thermostat as well..total cost is now $800! I was not happy but I rather it be installed correctly... as this point i lost all faith in Thor and requested the this manager he kept referring to whenever i asked him a question, the manager was the owner..Berry who Is very knowledgeable. He went back to my house to make sure that i do indeed need this set up. He confirmed and i approved the install. I waited another week and to my surprise , Thor was back again to do the instal . You guessed it ...he didnt do it right ..my house now had no AC in the desert where the outside temp is 115. He not only didnt test the panel, but he didn't even connect the other two thermostats. How could he leave my house without doing a complete installation. He marked the invoice that it was all working, however the main one was not turning the A C on and the other two wifi thermostat were not even programmed ! you guessed it , i called and now Barry came and fixed this mess up . so at the end, the system is working as was promised , however i felt like Thor was just not qualified at all for this project. So as long as you don't have Thor ..i think it will be fine . read more

If you want your unit serviced when promised, this is probably not the right company to use. If you want to be told they will be there at a certain time and day and then have them push you to the bottom of the list (despite being on their preferred customer list, paying a monthly fee for this and despite having multiple accounts with them) then this is the place. If you want to get on 3 different calls over several days to try to get them to come when they were scheduled to, be told you are no longer on the priority list and have to be moved to another day, then with repeated attempts to get the service tech out when it was scheduled, have the scheduling woman say someone will call later (after our appointment time) then have the manager call and actually argue with you over what is wrong with the unit (despite having 2 contractors come diagnose and verify the issue)--then these are the ones. If you own a home in the desert you know how important it is to have your cooling units working and serviced. We hired Hyde because of their claim of being customer focused and for their maintenance program. We have just canceled all our contracts with them. And we STILL have an a/c unit that is not working properly despite having an appointment set up since last weekend. read more

My air conditioner stopped working over the weekend. Hydes was able to send out a repair man first thing Monday morning. When James Burell showed up he was very courteous and knowledgeable. We had such a great experience with Claudio today. He took time to thoroughly explain the issues that were causing problems with our heater -- even drawing a little diagram of the unit so we could have a true "visual"! We've used Hyde's for years, and this visit was on par with the high quality service we've come to appreciate with this company time and time again. Prepare for a lot of "fixes" after initial installation. It took Hyde's 4+ visits (from Dec - Feb) to install, fix, fix again, fix an air vent that was installed backwards, then months later send out a person to inspect their own work prior to a City of PS inspection: add missing clamps and re-tape exposed wires (that I initially had to tape myself, as they were completely exposed and you would have to have been blind to miss). Why wasn't this done during one of the prior visits? Hyde's then had to fix it again after it FAILED INSPECTION for not being bolted down to the cement and replacing the exposed wires. Hyde's also installed a unit in my sisters condo and forgot to hook up the heat, which we only discovered months later when weather turned cold. Isn't hooking up the heat basic installation 101? Don't waist your time complaining; it goes nowhere. Very poor quality and they are not cheap! Fell Short of Expectations Apologize and take ownership of their poor quality work. Install correctly, as that's what we thought we were paying for. Honestly, I think this is the way they run the company; cutting corners and doing poor work. Update: Happy New Year! We woke this morning to the coldest day of the year and NO HEAT for a unit that is only a year old. Called the emergency number at Hyde's and someone did call within the hour and have someone here between 9-10. Unfortunately, service on a holiday isn't covered by our contract and we would have to pay the "emergency" fee for heating service today. They could come tomorrow free of charge under our contract. I explained that I had a 91-year-old mother who was just discharged from the hospital and a 93-year-old with Alzheimer's who were complaining about the cold and they would not waive the "emergency" charge. It was also made clear that they "we not refusing service". Glad to find out Hyde's is MORE CONCERNED WITH MAKING MONEY THAN DOING WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. Fortunately, we have another condo next door with a brand new AC/Heating system that was installed by ESSER and is running beautifully. It also passed inspection by the state and city the first time. Recommendation: Use anyone else but Hyde's. They do not stand behind their work. read more

We have never received such poor customer service! Not only were the three different technicians extremely rude, late and incompetent - they never fixed the problem with our A/C unit or performed the actual service, but did leave us with an $800 invoice. We ended up having to call another company to come out. The technician was not only pleasant, but found and fixed the problem within a half hour, including actually performing of our unit. Hyde's just replaced our (15 yrs. old) HVAC equipment and not only is it a relief to have A/C again but also to have been so well-served by this company. I called them upon arrival at our (uh-oh, no air) Rancho Mirage (second) home on a Friday midday and Jeff, their first-responder technician was there within 2 hrs. to check things out and deliver the not-surprising diagnosis - DOA. A temporary replacement unit was installed and owner Mike took detailed measurements (not just area but windows, noted sun exposures, location of vents, etc.) and compiled a report summarizing what equipment would meet our specific home and needs. The installation early the following week went smoothly - including drywall repair for attic-access enlargement - and cleanup also. Service was outstanding - attention to detail, completely upfront about system and equipment requirements, costs, rebates, guarantees. Fast approaching the Christmas weekend and one of the heaters wasn't working in our vacation rental. I called after 9 am this morning and was told a technician would be out between 10 and 12. Right around 10 Jeff showed up and quickly discovered that the vacuum hose to the pressure switch was disconnected. He quickly reconnected it and tested out the system. Heat was working great! We had a completely new HVAC system installed in our home several months ago. I don't make a practice of doing online reviews, but am pleased to be making an exception for Hyde's. I have no prior experience with Hyde's whatsoever and chose them for several reasons: A. They are qualified under the SCE Quality Installation / Rebate Program, one of only 2 such firms currently located in the valley; B. They install the highest rated residential equipment, per Consumer Reports, which is American Standard; C. I was impressed with their attention to detail and by-the-book, fact-based approach (and the absence of sales pressure). Barry was great to work with and simply presented the options, as well as the SCE rebate program information ($750 in our case). The installation required substantial re-configuring, new insulation and more, which they coordinated perfectly. Having worked with many contractors over the years in maintaining buildings and physical plant, I found Hyde's to be an excellent service provider. Their communication, organization and follow-through were impressive. The system is working perfectly, and they have since followed up without any prompting. Based on this experience, I would recommend Hyde's to anyone looking for a high quality installation. 6/19/17 - UPDATE: I've had the opportunity to witness first-hand Hyde's assistance to an elderly mobile home park resident, here in the desert. Let's just say they went way over and above in replacing a failing AC system for this person - they deserve an award, no question about it! They're a great family run operation, highly recommended. Hyde's is one of the contractor's on Southern California Edison's list that you can contract with to have a new a/c unit installed and be eligible for the $750 rebate from SCE. Unfortunately, there are only two companies that appear when you put in any of the high desert zip codes. I called SCE to ask if there were any others because one of the ones on the website would not come to Yucca Valley and the other wanted $400 to "assess" our a/c needs. Unfortunately, Hyde does not feel like coming to the high desert, so I guess we are S.O.L.!! Thanks Hydes! read more

Reliable, reasonable, professional! I have used Hyde's for my A/C and heating system needs for the past three years. They have always been available within a day or two when I need something taken care of, and their technicians are knowledgeable and friendly. Both Taylor Hyde and Steve Martin have been to my place...and I would recommend either one. I also use Hyde's for my bi-annual system check-ups and filter changes...and I feel that this helps avoid "surprises" with the systems. We made the appt based on a friends suggestion. The tech was on time and let us know when he was on the way. That is the good part. went up to the attic and checked things very quickly and informed us that he could fix a few parts for $2100 but that after about 6 months we would not be able to get the freon and that we would then need a whole new system for about $9000. He kept pushing that on us and some duct cleaning and said it would be a waste to spend the $2100 for a band aid. He also said we also needed new compressor. So we called someone else who put in a whole new furnace with some new ducts for $2500 and he said the compressor was perfectly fine. The AC and heat both work really well now. I feel like Hyde tech may be on commission. It was a pretty hard sell. read more
