You can take a 10-20 minute drive to see lots of different attractions- the zoo, parks, botanical gardens, trails, etc. There is a free shuttle but it only takes you within a 2 mile radius. There are a few homeless people around, as with most downtowns. The breakfast is the same as every Marriott. This is a no frills hotel. The pool is very small, and we never used it. The rooms are clean and comfortable but nothing fancy. We had a nice view of the mountains and Chase Field from our window.

I was initially supposed to get a king room, but they wouldn't have one for another hour or so. I agreed to a room with 2 queen beds. Normally, Marriott Brand hotels have the most comfortable beds. It was just me in the room, I did try both beds. They were terrible. Felt like boards underneath the mattress pad. The bed near the window- you could hear the creak of the bed just by pressing on it with you hand. I did try to lay on it, but it was worse. Every night I had the worst sleep and could hardly get out of bed, my back hurt so bad. 3 days after checking out I'm still taking ibuprofen and icing and having to use heating pad. 2nd note, there is free breakfast. I only made waffle bc it was hot food. The eggs and sausage were not good. The bacon was just red and uncooked- not sure if they just put in microwave for 2 minute but looked like a pile of red worms. Only had coffee 1x. My co/workers and I stopped at a coffee shop after we had breakfast that day. Next day we didn't have time. I just didn't want any coffee from the hotel.

When my family came to visit from NYC for the weekend, I was on a mission. I wanted to show them…read morethat Phoenix has more to offer than cacti, 115-degree weather, and Instagram worthy rooftops. I was looking for a spot with fresh, flavorful food, a relaxed vibe, and maybe a little something extra to keep my teenage nieces and nephew entertained. MATCH Market & Bar checked just about every box. Before we even ordered, the kids were already wandering through the little market area, which turned out to be half the fun. They found a locally designed jigsaw puzzle, grabbed a few unique snacks for later, and suddenly I had bought myself a few uninterrupted minutes to look over the menu. Parents, aunts, uncles... you know those moments are priceless. Now let's talk about the food. We went all in. Salmon, steak, fresh salads, wings, tacos, appetizers, a sandwich (don't ask me which one because everybody was reaching across the table stealing bites), fries, and every plate was a winner. Everything tasted fresh and had just enough creativity without trying too hard to be "chef-y." It felt like the kind of menu where almost anyone can find something they'll enjoy. My one... and only..,. complaint? The ordering system. Call me old-fashioned, but I'm still a fan of sitting down, having someone take my order, and easing into the dining experience. Ordering at the register, grabbing a table number, and waiting for food delivery always feels a little like upscale cafeteria dining to me. It certainly didn't ruin the experience, but if MATCH ever switched to full table service, I'd probably become a regular. The atmosphere was easygoing and welcoming. We visited early in the afternoon, so it wasn't buzzing just yet. We enjoyed our meal, caught up on family gossip, laughed way too loudly a few times, and then headed out. I noticed they host live music and other events in the evenings, though, and I have a feeling the whole place takes on a completely different personality after dark. If you're looking for a casual lunch with fresh food, good ingredients, and a downtown location that somehow manages to avoid feeling chaotic, MATCH is absolutely worth checking out. The pricing was fair and appropriate for this area, so that was a plus. It's the kind of place that's equally good for a quick bite, meeting friends, or bringing out-of-town guests who want something a little different. Will I be back? I think so. But next time I'm coming in the evening. I want to see this place with a cocktail in hand, music playing, and a little more of the energy that I suspect makes MATCH shine.

Good looking out for when I left my computer mouse at bar staff one morning. Ha ha ha. The hotel restaurant is trendy and the menu is solid. Prices are reasonable and food all tastes darn good!!! Rooms were large and very open!!! Keep this in mind if rooming with someone. Bathroom is frosted glass walls. FYI. It can get a little noisy at night. lol. Pool is nice, no life guard. But also not that large. Pleasant. All in all I had a good stay here 5 nights! I would love to do it again!!!

Only minor downside was water pressure and sink water came out weak and sprayed kinda funny. Staff and free breakfast were decent. We also requested maid service, but never got it. No stress, tho. They brought us a microwave upon request, very awesome! Overall, the price was fair and the location was great! Experiences "at" the hotel…read morearen't much to write home about (not much to the bar or purchaseable breakfast buffet), but it's a fantastic homebase for exploring the nearby areas. PROS: -The hotel provides two free, in-the-fridge, water bottles per day. That's such a great benefit, and we continually used them to stay hydrated in this heat. -Hotel staff was extremely friendly, and they'd greet us or say good-bye at every interaction. Every interaction we had with hotel staff was fantastic. -The shower was fantastic. It had a handheld shower head AND rainfall shower you can choose between. The controls were placed on the entrance side of the shower, ensuring you don't get shot with ice cold water while trying to turn it on. -Elevators were fast, and we rarely waited for one. -Room was clean and surprisingly spacious for being downtown. Zero complaints. -Extremely walkable to the convention center. Even in the ridiculous heat, it was a pretty short, not-horrific walk to the convention center. -The hotel is right next to the Arizona Center mall-esque area. There are cute events there (Farmer's Market, celebrations, etc.) in addition to a few restaurants. It could use more restaurants, but they're within a block's walk if you're staying local. -You're walkable to Roosevelt Row and the stadium. It's a longer walk, but it's doable. -You're also walkable to the Lightrail very easily. -They have a small selection of purchasable food items including frozen mini pizzas and ice cream. The room does not have a microwave by default, but they can bring one to your room upon request. CONS: -I saw a lot of people doing laptop work in the lobby. This is probably because the room doesn't really have a business chair or desk. It has a circular table with a lounge chair next to it. It'll work for doing work, but it's not great for looking presentable on business calls (with your slouched position) or back support for 8 hours. -The water from the spigot either comes out "Flaming Hot" or "Warm". There is no cold, and attempts to get it to "cold" just don't happen. Our shortcut: fill up your water bottle than tuck it into the fridge for a bit. -During Phoenix summer, with outdoor temps at 110, we couldn't get the AC to get under 74 degrees with the curtains fully drawn. When we opened the curtains, it couldn't get under 77. I assumed that all hotels in the area had the same issue, but the hotel we went to next stayed under 70 easily. I didn't report that it wasn't working nor have anyone come check the AC, though. -There are lots of bars and restaurants in the area, so I'm not sure the AC needed to compete, but the single in-lobby bar felt very generic and unremarkable compared to some downtown hotel bars I've been to in other metro areas.

Our room was also nice, clean, and spacious, which made the stay comfortable. Unfortunately, there were a few things that really took away from the experience. Charging $32 for parking is pretty crazy, especially on top of the room rate. The pool area was also a major disappointment. It felt stuffy and uncomfortable, making it hard to actually relax. The water was hot, which was frustrating when we were specifically trying to escape the heat. There really wasn't a comfortable place to cool down and enjoy the pool area.

I had a deal that was expiring so I made a staycation out of it at Embassy Suites by Hilton Phoenix…read moreDowntown North. I've stayed at other Embassy Suites so I have a comparison point. This location in Midtown is a notch below other Embassy Suites in the country. Let's start off with the good. I like the open, atrium feel of Embassy Suites. It's different than the norm and it's welcoming and beautiful. To be honest, I don't know why more restaurants don't do it. Another great thing is their complimentary social hour. From 5:30-7, each guest gets two free mixed drinks, beer, or wine from the hotel bar. The liquor isn't top-tier by any stretch of the imagination, but two drinks is nice. And they also have complimentary snacks. When I was there, it was chips and salsa, home made chips, and veggies with ranch. A third nice thing about Embassy Suites is their breakfast which extends beyond your typical breakfast fare at hotel chains. More options and a made-to-order omelette station. The downside is that the selection wasn't as good here as their location in Glendale, California that I recently stayed at. Overall, the breadth of options and the quality of the food was good there. Still though, solid for a hotel breakfast. On the flip side, you have to pay $32 for parking. I'm morally opposed to paying for parking at a hotel. It's a cheap money scheme. The happy hour and breakfast help make up for it, but still. The room was comfortable and clean. A little small but still pleasant. The only real issue I had with my room was the shower. I'm 6'2" and the shower head was too low. I had to get uncomfortable to wash my hair. If you're tall, you'll have the same issue. If you're short, you're fine. They have a pool, an indoor one, but it's pretty meh. I checked it out but decided to pass. Overall, a pleasant stay. They just have a little work to do to get up to other Embassy Suites locations. Last but not least, they granted me a late check out of 1 p.m. which was appreciated.

The hotel has a little market area where you can grab snacks, drinks, and even some adult beverages, which was really convenient. We also stopped by the downstairs bar for a drink before heading out to the game. The hotel also has a rooftop bar and restaurant, which looked really cool, and the pool stays open until 11 p.m. with an amazing view overlooking the entire valley. Definitely a great feature! One of the biggest perks for us was the location. If you're staying here for a football game, it is seriously about a seven-minute walk, if you walk slow, to the stadium. You can't beat that! We loved being able to leave the car behind and easily walk to the game. Our biggest complaint--and honestly the reason we're giving the hotel 4 stars--is the parking. There isn't really a separate hotel parking area, and parking in the lot costs $16 a day. While $16 isn't terrible, when you're staying at a hotel like this, you definitely expect convenient, dedicated parking to be part of the experience. We also ordered Uber Eats the night of the game and before halftime, but because so many of the streets around the area were closed, our driver couldn't get to us. That's a whole other story and probably deserves its own review! Breakfast the next morning was actually really good. The eggs, French toast, oatmeal, bagels, muffins, and everything else we tried were great. The only thing I would skip is the sausage - even for a continental breakfast the sausage quality is bad, so bad, skip it Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The staff, location, amenities, rooftop bar, pool, and incredibly convenient walk to the stadium were all fantastic. With better/more convenient parking, this easily could have been a 4.5- or even 5-star experience for us. Great hotel, fantastic staff, excellent location--we just wish the parking situation was better!

Very friendly and helpful staff, went out of their way twice to fetch sweetener and ice. Small convenience store next to front desk. Reasonable daily parking fee that includes unlimited in and out privileges Cons: On a five night stay, housekeeping only checked on us 2 days. Needs small repairs here and there. Example: 2 or 3 drawers had loose pulls that needed screw tightening, saw a weather strip partially detached from door frame. Small workout area had limited equipment. One treadmill was broken one day and I had to wait an hour for the treadmill hog on the only working treadmill to get off despite posted 45 minutes max use rule. Other equipment like weights a bit limited. They allow pets and one day we had to deal with a barking dog somewhere morning and night. We complained twice and the hotel staff could only say they tried and that people are not supposed to leave their pets unattended. I'm highly allergic to dogs and cats, and I didn't realize this hotel was so pet-friendly. I had an allergic reaction the first night, coughed heavily, took my inhalers and Benadryl and thought I could get through the night. Jessica at the front desk was helpful when I asked to be moved to a room that didn't have pet visitors, but she said there are no rooms like that. Pets are allowed in all rooms. She had housekeeping clean my room, vacuum, and change the air filters. Unfortunately, I continued to cough and needed meds all week, and just limited my time in the room as much as possible, which was only to sleep as I'm at work all day. In retrospect, I should have changed hotels. I'm grateful to Jessica for her help though. On the plus side, loved the pool and hot tub, although guests smoke outside so that's rough if you are sensitive to smoke. Breakfast was very nice. Free, plentiful, nutritious. And there's a soda fountain at the breakfast bar with Diet Coke, which I can't get at Marriott properties. Jason at check-in was especially friendly and welcoming.
