This little spot is my favorite public space in downtown Phoenix. Heritage Square evokes a metropolitan feel focusing on past, present and future. I think it's the juxtaposition of the old historic houses against the rising modern skyline to the west. Or maybe it's the ethnic and cultural festivals galore, where I can catch sumo wrestling or hula dancers. Or perhaps it's the fact that it's a walkable city block and also host to the Arizona Science Center, Phoenix Museum of History and other historical houses or great restaurants like Pizzeria Bianco. It might be a combination of all of those things. I have spent many weekends here, too many to count. While I dig the ethnic festivals in particular (just went to the Indian festival the other day) - it's also host to the Rainbows Festival, which celebrates the GLBT community and diversity and is one of the largest street festivals in Phoenix. I am diggin on you, Heritage Square. Werd! read more

Phoenix is full of history and Heritage Square is one of those places that maintains some of its past. Heritage Square is home to some preserved 19th and 20th century homes, museums and restaurants. The Rosson House is a beautiful restored 1895 Queen Anne Victorian house that was once home to early settlers in Phoenix. Heritage Square also hosts many food and cultural festivals. There is a large garage nearby for parking and ASU has a small campus next door. The Arizona Science Center is the building that stands out the most here at Historic Heritage Square. I have gone to it a couple of times and have enjoyed my time there. Arizona's most iconic restaurant Pizzeria Bianco by James Beard Award-winner Chris Bianco is also here. It can be a very long wait to get a table and has been visited by many celebrates like Jerry Seinfeld and Jimmy Fallon over the years. Sometimes I will park near Heritage Square while going to a baseball game and like to enjoy its relaxing peaceful atmosphere before the game. There are some shaded areas to take cover on warm sunny days. read more

Nice area across Arizona state university. There's not that much going on but I can see the beauty used for events like weddings. I really liked the little visitor center with the cashier, info and the carriage. Paid parking only in the street. And they tow if you don't pay attention to parking in an actual spot. read more

Historic Heritage Square is in the old town site for Phoenix. It is very near Arizona State University. I took a look around. Pretty cool place to explore. Plenty of museums, shops, restaurants in here. Also certainly a place to also have a wedding if you want to. If I had been in the Phoenix area longer, I would have explored this area more thoroughly. read more

This little area is absolutely lovely! I enjoyed my ice cream pop from The Bungalow. Mango flavor is delish! Note: The store has adorable items! I also enjoyed grabbing a pizza at Pizzeria Bianco. There is a lovely coffee shop also in the area that I went to on a different visit (Royal). Looking around the area, you will see some great architecture, comfortable places to sit, and a few shops/food places to explore. read more

The more I visit downtown Phoenix the more I fall in love. The history is rich here. It's always a pleasant surprise to find a place so beautiful hidden amongst all the high rises and traffic. Nestled next to the science center these beautiful grounds hold not only the Rosson House built in 1895, beautiful grounds, carriage house turned gift shop, Teeter Tea House , and much more. There any many shaded areas and flowers. Great place to relax in the early morning hours. One of my favorite things is the awesome little free library up against the brick backdrop. read more

Nice Plaza/Park. Two Museums, a couple very cute restaurants and in the middle of lots. Its near the convention center, walkable distance to CHASE Stadium too, and across the new ASUniversity. Parking: Theres a parking structure, and very little small parking lots around the place. Museums: Arizona Science Center & Arizona Museum of History Restaurants: Biano Pizzeria, Rose Restaurant, and more... Theres benches around the area if you want to sit down. Interesting and historic part of downtown Phoenix that I had yet to explore. I came here with some friends to check out the flea market; local vendors selling their goods. It was perfect as Christmas is right around the corner. Some good restaurants are in the area as well as coffee shops. It's easy to get to from the light rail and it's central to other goodies in downtown. Fun place to check out and cross of the list. read more

This venue is a gem for those getting married in Phoenix. It's close to downtown, which means so are photo opportunities, but more importantly it's convenient and easy to find great accommodations nearby. Also, you don't even have to go anywhere else as there is such a great array of spots right at this venue for great photo ops. Whether you prefer the old brick building charm or maybe even the clean, minimal concrete look the nearby Science Center provides. One of my favorite venus to photograph weddings. read more

I always love coming to this location. It just feelings so cozy and relaxing. I came here for the Matsuri Festival on Saturday. WOW, it was crowded. It had crafts, products to buy, dances, food, drinks, plants, etc. It was very cool to see some many people out and about. I am normally here for the AZ Science Center. read more

My brother, who's visiting from Vancouver, was standing around minding his own business in Heritage Square earlier today. We were checking out the annual India Diwali Festival taking place there. Suddenly, he sees yours truly stick his hand out to greet some random guy who was walking by and then turn to him and say, "[Bro], this is Phil Gordon, the mayor of Phoenix." Suddenly star-struck, my brother whimpered out a nervous high-pitched "uh, hi" and gave him what he himself says was a dead-fish handshake. We laughed, hard, as he later told me he didn't appreciate my ambushing him with a political figure when all he wanted to do was eat some samosas and look for cute Indian chicks. Anyway, Heritage Square is a cool little city space where many of the Valley's ethnic communities hold their annual celebrations and festivals. Before India it was Thailand. And I think Japan is coming up within the next few months. It's a great way to sample ethnic foods and just chill out on a Sunday afternoon. You can also wander off to the adjacent Phoenix Museum of History or Arizona Science Center, or check out the old historical homes in the square itself. Not to mention dine at Pizzeria Bianco or Circa 1900 if you're there around dinner time. There is an on-line calendar of events if you want to plan ahead. Heritage Square earns a fourth star in my book for being a historical landmark in Phoenix. But what exactly lives in Heritage Square? Let me tell you! Here, the Arizona Science Center, famous Pizzeria Bianco and Nobuou at Teeter House call this humble square home. The Arizona History Museum used to also live here, but now the Arizona Science Center is converting it to another part of their experiment. Heritage Square has a comfortable feeling to it. As I walk through, I enjoy looking at the historical Rosson House. I've been through once and it's a nice little history lesson if you're looking for something to do. I also like how Heritage Square hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year. I wish they did more and took more advantage of the space, but the ones they do are nice. What I like most about Heritage Square is the ambiance in the late afternoon as the sun is starting to set and the weather is breezy but warm. As I walk through, I look up and see the city surrounding me and it makes me appreciate Downtown Phoenix. Plus the architecture of the Science Center along with the historical buildings housing the restaurants and other museums add to the character of the square. read more

This is a gorgeous spot but the problem is parking. Multiple times the parking garage has made me or my friends pay $12.00 even though we went and got a parking ticket validated at the MANY shops in the square. So advice- find parking out of the garage or be willing to pay $12.00z read more

Came here to check the Japanese Heritage Festival. Not sure what to expect, but it pretty entertaining. I hardly saw any Japanese people. Saw crazy white kids dress up in anime, that was pretty wierd. read more

What a cool little spot that I didn't even realize was a spot until last week. I used to just think of it as the plaza by the Science Center but now I know it as much more. I was here twice on back to back days and realized the beauty of this place. First I was here for a lunch time visit to Pizzeria Bianco and then relaxed for a bit in the square and just enjoyed the weather. The next night I was back to enjoy the Phoenix Brewers Invitational beer fest where the square was packed with vendors and music and made for a great setting for a beer fest. Everything was close and going one end to the other seemed full of stuff but not a long walk either. With events like the beer fest and daily joys like the Science Center, Bianco and Nobuo this is a great little spot. read more

I came here for an event and was able to park at the Children's Museum for free (they probably set it up specifically for the event). I was just happy I didn't have to pay or walk far. It's a quaint area and it was spacious enough to fit hundreds of people who attended. I explored for a little and found myself at the AZ Science Center and passing by restaurants. The weather was nice which made being outside enjoyable, and I liked the patches of grass. I do want to visit the Rosson House one of these days. read more

I am usually here for the Japanese Matsuri once a year. It's a good place for a festival or event. The houses and surrounding area is great and it's right next to downtown ASU. Other reason I'm here is for Nobu Teeter House which serves Japanese food and Pizzeria Bianco! I love Pizzeria Bianco. This place has some pretty nice restaurants and relaxing atmosphere. And it's quiet if you just want to stroll around. read more

It's one of those places in a downtown metropolitan city that is a quiet gem. Tucked between the Arizona science center and ASUs downtown campus lies a lot of great history with architecture dating back to the early 20th century. Heritage square boasts a great English bar and pub called the Rose and Crown which is a great place to grab a pint, watch a game, play some bags or shoot some pool. Their Shepards Pie is amazing! There is also Nabuo and Pizza Bianco. Pizza Bianco is always packed and voted best pizza in Phoenix! Truly recommend the wait for this place. Nabuo is great Japenese with awesome lunches. The soft shell crab sandwich is mouth watering. All three of these places are housed in historic homes built in about 1914. read more

I went down here for the car show Motoring Thru Time. I had never really been to Heritage Square (once before to participate in the Zombie Walk) but was really impressed by it. Very clean and of course I loved the cars. I felt like I should have dressed up in some 1920s attire or something. read more

Nice location and interesting events are hosted here, like the German Festival we attended today. It's clean and well laid out allowing plenty of people to enjoy the venue. The problem I have is with the parking. Hourly rates are posted and those rates are reasonable but if there's an event (why else would we be here???) then it's a $12 parking fee regardless of how long you stay. Ridiculous in my opinion. Why have posted rates? I saw someone else's post that they parked at the Children's Museum, but today there was a sign in the entryway that said parking was for museum guests only. read more

Perhaps my most favorite event venue on the Valley, this place is a gem in the heart of downtown Phoenix. It's almost as if time stood still with this collection of hostoric houses turned into fantastic eateries. Its close proximity to light rail is also a huge benefit. read more

Heritage Square itself is great and has all different kinds of events going on. It is also literally right by the Arizona Science Center. The setting is great, the plants and buildings are beautiful and unique, and the entire area is a pleasure to be in. World Festival: My last visit was for WorldFest, a cultural festival celebrating cities from around the world. Most of it was a less-than-thrilling and a lot geared towards children (which I don't have). They did have a massive "Beer & Wine from around the world" stand that was extremely fun. Beer tickets were $5 for 4 (mildly annoying that each ticket was $1.25 instead of just $1) but each ticket could get you a sample or 4 tickets a glass. 4 samples do add up to a glass, so we opted to get all samples and try as many things as possible. Japanese Festival: My first visit was for the Japanese Festival, which was very fun. There was a ton to see, though a lot of it was food. The performances were interesting and the only downside was the amount of people. It was so crammed that you could hardly walk! I guess a bigger venue would have been better for the turnout, but it was still a good time. read more

i've lived in the downtown area for like 85% of my life and have only ventured into the heritage square area a few times for Heritage Squarish events...usually it's a walk thru to the Arizona Science Center or to a parking lot. but i was here two weekends back to back for the NBA All-Star game tip off party and the Matsuri Festival a week later..and wow. this place can have some awesome things happening. the tip off party...75-80 bucks for a ticket..and full range to entertainment lots of food and drinks to sample...free of course. plus the museum and science center were open. live DJ music and access to Pizzeria Bianco and Rose and Crown. totally made my night. the Matsuri Festival was alot of fun, saw Jack play the drums, saw some kids dressed up as anime and manga characters. no free drinks that day. but still was alot of fun. Heritage Square gets my 4 stars for being a cool place to have things to do. plus the old houses and stuff rock. read more

this place was pretty neat, clean and family friendly. heritage square is located across the street from the asu downtown campus. there are very few food place within this park. other than events that may take place here like others have mentioned, there is a science museum and the rosson house which we visited. it was pretty awesome imo, lots of history with a guided tour. otherwise, i'm not really sure what else there is to do at heritage square as there didn't appear to be much of anything interesting. parking is in an adjacent garage read more

I totally agree with Stevey P - the best thing about Heritage Square is that it preserves the past while still celebrating modern culture. Yes, you can see beautifully-restored Victorian homes and imagine how things used to be, but you can also have some of the country's best pizza at Pizzeria Bianco, down a pint at Rose & Crown, or take part in celebrations of different cultures and social groups. We walked around here for the first time this past Friday, when it was deathly hot out, but I look forward to cooler weather, when my husband and I can come here and sit one of of the gorgeous, shaded benches and just take in the scene. read more

I am still undecided on what is better... going when there isn't a soul around or attending an event here. It is a nice place for events, but I think in that atmosphere you lose a lot of what this place is really supposed to be all about; history. Going when there is no one there is kind of boring though. Well even after growing up in Az I still don't understand what it is about this place that makes it a must see, perhaps it's a lack of anything really interesting to do in Phoenix. read more

My Husband and I just had our Wedding and Reception here over this past weekend ( May 3rd 2015) I couldn't of asked for a more special location then this one. Looked on line to find out they close at 4pm. Decided to head over for some coffee or tea. Everything had closed by 3:30. Ended up paying $12 to park for 30min because no place to validate parking was open. Wasn't impressed. read more
