I love it here. Been before for Phoenix and baseball and made it to Jerome. Loved that trip and am back solo meeting a friend at some point and staying in Sedona. Absolutely love it here and would love to live winters in Sedona. Such a slower pace that truly works for me and my brain injury. It's so cute here and the views are stunning.

This is based on just 2 or 3 tris over the years to this great state. I drove through here with my parents as a kid and we made the usual tourist stops such as pertified forest, the meteor crater and Grand Canyoun. Ive flown in for a couple of business trips but didnt really get out of the resort! I always wanted to return but seems Ive been restricted to a few dive throughs. However, those drive throughs were always interesting especially when you see the huge suigaro cactus and desert.

Arizona was sooo beautiful. I am so glad I went on this group tour with my friends from Vegas for just a day. So sad we didn't get to see antelope because of the rain. Still very grateful for the Mother Nature gifts of horseshoe and the Grand Canyon. I am so glad I came here in the winter. Grand Canyon covered in snow was absolutely beautiful. I do want to say the west does look somewhat similar tho but it was still super beautiful. I know for sure I want to come back for local food, summer views and more importantly the hikes!! I love it!!! And now cross off another national park on my list!

If I could go back, I would because there's so much to see and do in this beautiful state. There's national parks to incredible hikes and sceneries it's literally endless. I've been to the Grand Canyon twice, hiked Devil's bridge, swung by Sedona around Native American lands, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe bend and much more! It's absolutely beautiful and you can really find yourself here. It's a wonderful way to self care and explore how beautiful this world can really be.

Horseshoe Bend About a 1.5 mile walk to the scenic view It gets hot and there's no shade on the path so plan accordingly No need for hiking boots but wear something comfortable and something you won't slip on There is a gated portion of the scenic outlook but also plenty of access to the edge of the canyon where you can fall if you're not careful Busy spot for sunsets Pet friendly $10 admission (not covered by the National Parks Annual Pass) Parking on site (after you pay you pull in) Amazing photos ops especially from the left part of the bend

The Grand Canyon State! Other than my home state in California and Nevada, Arizona is the next state we frequently visited. If my mom would stop giving me guilt trips about leaving California I'd already be living here or elsewhere in the western part of the country. Since marrying my hubby 9 years ago I've enjoyed the beauty at these iconic places that the Great State of Arizona has to offer. The Grand Canyon was my first National Park to visit. One of the world's natural wonders we finally completed all four rims over the years. We did a single visit to each rim (the beauty are all different from each one) we'd like to come back and revisit again someday: Grand Canyon South Rim [Mather Point, Jul 8, 2010] Grand Canyon East Rim [Desert View, Dec 19, 2010] Grand Canyon North Rim [Oct 30, 2016] Grand Canyon West Rim - home of the Skywalk [Peach Springs, Nov 24, 2017] Visited an itty-bitty part of AZ at the Four Corners - one of the corners was AZ [Dec 6, 2012] and then drove to see the best preserved meteorite crater on Earth at the Meteor Crater [Winslow, Dec 6, 2012] We can't forget about Sedona and the pink jeep tours [May 23, 2013]... the red-rock buttes, steep canyon walls and pine forests surrounding this town are just so pretty. I would love to see this view everyday from my office window. Twice in the same year we visited the O.K. Corral in Tombstone [Mar 15 and May 3, 2015]. There's something about the history of the shootout between the Earp brothers facing off against the Clanton-McLaury gang that intrigued me. I love history now... (not back in high school, though) LoL! In September of the same year we stayed in one of our timeshare locations at WorldMark Rancho Vistoso [Oro Valley, Sept 5, 2015] and visited the Saguaro National Park [Tucson] and Casa Grande Ruins Monument [Coolidge]. Booked another timeshare location at WorldMark Pinetop [Pinetop, Oct 29-31, 2016] and enjoyed meeting Yelpers in Scottsdale [Hopping Across AZ UYE @ Hopdoddy's Burger Bar] Oct 29, 2016... such great people whom some I met during YSB San Diego. We actually came to Scottsdale to attend a wedding of one our Yelp friends, Corina J! Of course, we couldn't pass up seeing another national monument before leaving AZ at Tonto National Monument [Roosevelt, Oct 31, 2016] Completed both Lower and Antelope Canyons in two separate visits: Horseshoe Bend [Page, Sept 2, 2017] Lower Antelope Canyon [Page, Sept 2, 2017] Upper Antelope Canyon [Page, Nov 30, 2019] Horseshoe Bend [Page, Nov 30, 2019] Thank you Great State of Arizona! Really liked our trip to Dobbins Lookout!

We came here to look at ASU and I ended up falling completely in love with Arizona and in particular the Phoenix area. I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting but whatever expectations I had were completely blown to bits by our amazing experiences. The first thing you can't not notice is the heat. You sometimes see 116 degrees on the news about the Phoenix area. Fortunately it was not 116 but rather 99. Sounds hot and I guess it is but I never really FELT hot. Dry heat? Lol indeed. I hate hot but this was different for certain. After about the forth day here it became clear that the heat indeed is dry. 9 percent humidity is the key to this. Still, not sure if I want to try it out later this summer when the real heat comes. We saw 3 homeless while we were here. We found that very odd but by no means a problem. We saw no graffiti on walls and things were very clean everywhere we went. The freeways are exceptionally clean AND fast I might add. Bay Area drivers have nothing on this area's drivers. Nobody goes slow here. Wow! The traffic signals all make sense. Landscape? Oh, just a little. You would need a few weeks to check the state thoroughly to be sure. In Phoenix the is a place called Dobbins Lookout. Eye opener. I've never really been in an environment like this before. The Grand Canyon? Haven't been yet but it's on the list. We just couldn't get over how everything was so clean. Someone put a ton of thought and effort into making sure all parts of the freeway look fantastic. I give AZ a solid five stars!

I've been to Phoenix a half dozen times, though only twice since I've been Yelping. And last year, my road trip from Denver to Las Vegas brought me through Arizona with stops in Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Yes, the Grand Canyon is absolutely incredible. A World Wonder in fact and you should not miss it. Please understand that it's not exactly close to Phoenix. It's at least a 7 hour round trip and understand that the Highway Patrol will pull you over for going faster than the posted 80 miles an hour speed limit. But there's more to the state than the Canyon. The Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff was where Pluto was discovered. The Pima Boneyard is where old aircraft go when they're not needed any more. Monument Valley, on the Arizona/Utah border. The Hoover Dam, on the Arizona/Nevada border. Sedona, Havasu Falls, Petrified Forest. Antelope Canyon. And I've only been to *some* of those places. Writing this list has me thinking that I need to be back in Arizona. Soon.

A 30 minute drive will change the landscape completely! We were in a snowstorm and then walking around what looked like Endore. Everyone must see this beautiful state!

I drove all around Arizona to find the beauty in the state and came across a few unforgettable moments. Unfortunately Arizona is very hot and very bare. If you like dirt, rocks and bushes, you may enjoy this state more than me. I would recommend, Phoenix, Horseshoe bend and the Grand Canyon.

    Beautiful Arizona.

When we got to the ticket counter, they said the movie had been moved to a larger theater because of higher than expected demand, and our seat numbers were changed. I was in "pre-irked" mode, because I had ordered early, and selected specific seats. I was happy to see that they were essentially the same center seats but in a wider row. The seats were comfy, as advertised. After the pleasant non-concern about the seats, I left to go to the concession. However, something about the carpet and the rail made me think that there was an extra step to take, and I tumbled a bit. I had to do the embarrassing "I'm okay, just tripped on my own feet" thing to the audience above. That did not deter me from getting a beer though (yes, my first and only one of the day, I really thought there was a step). However, the taps had just been opened and needed clearing. I think we were the first showing of the day. It gave me plenty of time to talk story with the very young (19 I think) bartender. As any good bartender should, he listened to my woes of being vegan on Thanksgiving. I give thanks for the Landmark Theatre showing a limited engagement film on a holiday! UPDATE: Now 1 Star. Went to see 'Weapons' and similar to another reviewer here, the audio was extremely low. Could hardly hear anything including dialogue. Never had that experience before. The projection itself was also very dark like the projector lens was dirty. Finally after passing it so many times I was curious enough to look it up. I googled "cake shaped building PHX" and it was the first result. "Tovrea (said tov-ree) Castle aka A jewel in the Sonoran desert" Since 2010 the City of Phoenix purchased, renovated, and opened it for tours. The very abbreviated story with this place is that some homesteaders from the early 1900s owned the land, sold 277 acres to a wealthy Italian man. Alessio Carraro had built a fortune in the sheet metal business in the 1920s from San Fran. He planned to build a hotel resort surrounded by a housing subdivision on 277 acres, Carraro Heights. The castle was built near the timing of when the Great Depression set in. Carraro wanted out, he sold the castle and some amount of acreage (for a fraction of his investment) to Della Tovrea, wife of cattle baron E.A. Tovrea. She lived there until her tragic death in 1969. Nearby is the Stockyard Restaurant, built by E.A.'s son so cattlemen had somewhere to eat near the stockyards. That restaurant still exists today. I plan to check it out. If you want more details and full story, go take the tour :) however tickets are not easy to come by. Tours sell out many months in advance and they started using a lottery system. I bought my tickets months ago. However worth a try to go. I wouldn't say its the most amazing thing I've ever seen and the use of the word "castle" is a stretch. It was strongest at the top overlook, right next to the building. As we went down the staircase to the lower level, the smell began to dissipate and eventually, to my nose, disappeared altogether. On the lower level, we saw the waterfalls. You can walk under/behind two of them and there are "seats" made of stone blocks in front of the third. The water was flowing pretty hard the day we visited, so the seats and all the pavement was wet and there was a slight mist coming off the middle one. The overall place is like a mixture of industrial and environmental architechture. There are metal-looking columns holding up the upper deck, yet the waterfalls look like they were copied from Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, and there are large stones/rocks embedded into the walls everywhere. It sits on the edge of a small park with a decent sized lot and there are hiking paths. We only came for the falls, so I can't speak to the hike, but the area looked fairly nice. I'd like to see it at night as it looks pretty cool in pictures I've seen. If you're looking for something a little different to do or show your visitors from out of town, this is a neat place to go. This is a park with a lot of potential as there is a nice grassy area, some tables and chairs next to the US Post Office and ASU Student Center, a beautiful sculpture, and other places to hold an event and escape from the heat. At the same time, the Civic Space Park in recent years has been overrun with the homeless who find their own spaces on the east side of the park and sometimes elsewhere in the park. This has led to some safety concerns from ASU students and their families as many students have to walk across the park to get from the Sun Devil Fitness Complex or the Fusion on First upper-division residence hall across to the rest of the ASU Downtown Campus. There have also been a number of altercations over the last few years between multiple homeless and occasionally between a homeless person and a student. I have seen groups of students and even community members holding events in the park either in front of the Student Center entrance at the tables and chairs (gatherings by students or staff), on the grassy lawn area (community members playing soccer, frisbee, or having a picnic), or even on the south side of the walkway (though the lighting wasn't very good in the evening in that area). Again, it may be a challenge if some of the homeless community members try to engage at these events with the students, staff, and/or community members. Another challenge we learned is that it isn't the role of ASU Police or Phoenix Police to monitor the park. Rather there are park rangers who are responsible for doing so, which adds some complications as the rest of the ASU campus is supported by ASU Police and on occasion, by Phoenix Police. If you look at other reviews of Civic Space Park, it is difficult to find one that doesn't highlight the famous sculpture known as "Her Secret is Patience." In fact, I recall doing a photo shoot about 12 years ago under the sculpture at Civic Space Park. This sculpture is a public art sculpture commission that was designed for the city of Phoenix. The sculpture consists of painted, galvanized steel, polyester twine netting, and colored lights. Again, the space has a lot of potential though due to safety reasons, there is some work to be done to really prepare this park to meet its full potential.

With that, the Church hopes this sculpture will generate donations and support that they can use to support homeless programs. If you want to park and get a closer look at this piece, there is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance, and there are a few commercial lots nearby as well. I love the Homeless Jesus concept and Schmalz's sculptures are so very detailed. Anyway, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.
