She was friendly, professional, incredibly knowledgeable, and communicated everything clearly, making us feel comfortable from start to finish. The ranch is absolutely beautiful, and the horses are well cared for and wonderful to ride. One of our favorite parts was the tour through the little Western town--it was such a unique experience and really brought the area's history to life. You can tell this land is full of rich history and has been cared for with pride. This experience exceeded our expectations, and we absolutely got our money's worth. Let me start by saying, definitely book with Rusty! He was simply AMAZING! We came here to celebrate a birthday and it was the best birthday by far! For starters the location was very easy to find. We met by their sign near a steakhouse and then followed Rusty out to the ranch on a dirt road (it was very manageable, even in a little Chevy cruze). Once we got there we went and paid in the little office and we're offered restrooms before the ride. We got to ride on Blue Eye and Gizmo, two well trained horses. Everything we did from the trail ride to the Wild West town was included in our price! The trail was so relaxing and had some beautiful views and Rusty taught us A LOT about the nature, animals and Indian markings out there! We all swapped some really fun stories on our ride as well. He also took tons of great pictures of us on the ride and even some of the views and nature he taught us about too (a few are attached)! After the ride he took us by jeep to a really cool Wild West town they had built and we got to go into his saloon for a drink. He taught us a lot about the stuff in his saloon that was really cool too! Then we got to throw axes, shoot a pistol and do some archery. Rusty offered to take many pictures for us while we were in the Wild West town and showed us all of the buildings they had out there. They even had some real grass out in the middle of the desert, who would've thought? We loved that it was just our group there too! It made it feel so catered to us. We will definitely be going back again to ride with Rusty and 110% recommend that anyone else go and experience their ranch and Wild West town as well! We can't wait to return! read more

We had a wonderful, totally unique experience at the Canyon Creek Ranch, which is affiliated with Western Destinations. I'm American, and had not been on a horse or shot a gun in about 40 years. I had also not been in Arizona for about 40 years. My wife and kids (boy - 15 and girl - 9) are from another country and had never been in Arizona, never been in the desert, never been on a horse, shot a gun, thrown hatchets, done ring toss onto horseshoes, lassoed a (metal) steer, or been in a cowboy saloon, all in a realistic cowboy town. We did all of these activities at Canyon Creek Ranch, and we thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I highly recommend these activities for "city slickers" who've never done any of these activities, or foreign visitors to the US, who are interested in getting a sense of what the "Old West" was like in the US. I've lived outside the US for more than 30 years, and I loved reconnecting with American history in a real cowboy setting on the edge of Agua Fria National Monument, surrounded by thousands of Saguaro cacti. The desert scenery around us reminded me of the cowboy movies I watched as a kid. Perhaps the biggest thrill for me was having my family exposed to American history and activities that they had never imagined they would be doing. This was a wonderful family activity with kids. I think it would also be fun for a group of adult friends or even as a company / business entertainment activity. I felt that my kids enjoyed this experience much more than Disneyland or Universal Studios. This was a private activity, with just the wrangler, the four of us, and our horses. No one else was in sight on thousands of acres of national park land. The optional barbecue was also well worthwhile. Two of us had the delicious chicken filets, while the other two had steaks, which were perfectly cooked and delicious. Along with baked potatoes, baked beans, a roll, salad, apple pie and drinks, all eaten in a realistic old-time saloon, we had a memorable cowboy dinner experience. All the staff, from the woman who handled our reservation to the administrator who greeted us, to the cook were friendly and helpful. Rich, our wrangler, was a wonderful guide throughout the horse ride on the desert trail and all the cowboy activities. Book this! You'll be glad you did! read more

What a great experience we had at Western Destinations Canyon Creek Ranch. We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide than Rusty. Learned so much about the history of not only the ranch itself but also the surrounding area, the desert environment and habitat because Rusty is quite knowledgeable and you will find out has quite the sense of humor. What an amazing experience! Our guide Sarah was awesome! She knew so much about the land and horses. We had a private trail ride for an hour through the beautiful desert. Then we were taken in an UTV and went to their historical western town. It was so cute. There we went into the saloon, did axe throwing, horseshoe toss, cattle roping, archery and we shot a 22! All so adventurous and fun. Our horses were named: Wyatt, Jason, Oakey and Sparky- the boys! They were sweet and easy to ride. This was the most beautiful ride. Horses were calm, gentle, and well behaved. The western town was well maintained and so fun. They have games set up around the town like axe throwing, bow and arrow practice, lasso's laid out to try,etc... The saloon was so great too! We had the best time and will absolutely be back again. Took our 7 year old and she was able to do it all: ride solo, and enjoy shooting, archery and axe throwing. The experience was far more than we expected., and you really get a lot for the price. Between the ride and the other activities, we were there for about 3 hours, which felt perfect. Thank you Sara! Western Destinations Canyon Creek Ranch was just what my family and I were looking for during our trip to Arizona. For just $95 a person, we got to go on an hour long horseback ride and take an ATV to the "old town" where we got to shoot a gun, do archery, use lassos, axe throw, etc. The views during our horseback ride were absolutely amazing and our guide Sara was so nice and fun to be around, she taught us about things on the property during our ride as well. Wanted to take the kids (14, 12) horseback riding outside the city for a more back-to-nature feel. We ended up going with the Canyon Creek location and couldn't be happier with our decision. You have to cross a couple of flowing creeks to get to the ranch so, if you don't have an SUV, they have you park and ride with them. When you check in they ask if you want to add lunch for an additional charge. Do it. We had the cheese burgers and they were grilled fresh, huge and there were plenty of toppings, sides and dessert to fill everyone up. Once checked in we were introduced to our guide and on horses within 5 minutes. Every group is kept private so once the three of us were on our mounts, we were off. The horses were beautiful and in great shape, obviously well cared for. The trail wound through the desert, canyon and gave us some beautiful scenery to enjoy. Our guide was able to provide some interesting info on the area, but didn't talk the entire time so we could just enjoy the ride. After the ride we hopped into a 4x4 that took us across (through) a flowing river to a small 1800's style Mexican village they had built. We were offered beverages then escorted around the village for hatchet throwing, roping, archery and shooting a real .22 pistol (perfect for my 12 year old who had never fired a gun). After lunch we explored on our own and discovered panning for gold, horseshoes and other activities. All in all, it was a great way to spend 3 hours and well worth the 45 minute drive. read more

He made sure she got to enjoy every even like everyone else in our group you could see she felt so included and had so much fun! Went today with my sisters and all I can say is it was worth every penny. It's $85 per person and everything is included. The horse ride was amazing into the canyon and like at least an hour long. Then we went into a little town they made and all drinks and activities were endless and included. The best part was TODD! If you book this book it with him. This was our absolute favorite stop while in the Phoenix area. We had a group of 11 from age 12-adult. They were very patient with our group, and the horses were well cared for. After the ride we had a drink in the saloon and lunch in a courtyard--grilled burgers and chicken with all the sides. So much food and very good! We enjoyed the games and had a good laugh. I was so excited for the horseback tour and cowboy games. Unfortunately, my partner injured their back about 3 hours before our appt and wouldn't be able to get on a horse and we had to cancel. We thought this would be great. Now we are starting a lawsuit. They rushed the ride. And my wife felt that her horse was very uncomfortable. They said it's fine. Now my wife and son are in the hospital. My son has stitches in his face and my wife has a spinal injury. 2 of the horses which were a hundred feet apart lost it and threw them off. There was no staff to help. No first aid kit for me to stop the bleeding. Luckily I was able to get them to the hospital 30 miles away. The staff said they use the horses every day and it has never happened. I don't think that is the case. These horses were not broken properly and were extremely tired. My horse began to buck me but I was able to control it. It's extremely sad that they have zero concern and never even reached out. Unfortunately the staff was untrained. Horses not trained properly and they have zero accountability. I hope they do not continue to put people in danger just to make a quick buck. read more

We had a small group go out for a day of Western activity. We rode horses, threw axes, horseshoes, and ropes. We shot bow and arrow, and revolvers in the shooting gallery, and trap at the trap range, We then had a cowboy lunch. Our wrangler was Aaron and he was really good. Treated us like we were kings. Everyone was very customer focused, and saw to our every needs. Jim regaled us with stories and jokes, and Opal put together some mad grub! It was a truly great experience. This was by far the best place we've been to when vacationing in AZ!! We called to see if they had any rides available that day, and they were able to fit us in just a few hours later. Simple directions were given to us to meet our guide at a grill near the ranch. Our guide then carefully lead us to the huge location. We were quoted $75 and figured that only included riding considering how everything else is priced in the touristy areas -- wrong! After about an hour ride, we hopped on a jeep to throw hatchets, shoot a revolver, and practice archery! Our guide, Chris, was incredibly fun and friendly. He made sure we were all comfortable and safe. He even took some great photos all along the trail for us. The ghost-town looking area where we did all of the other activities was incredibly cool. We were offered free refreshments which were fantastic after being in the sun. The bathrooms were so clean and very accessible. We are very excited to return next time we are in the area! read more
