I was looking for a spot with fresh, flavorful food, a relaxed vibe, and maybe a little something extra to keep my teenage nieces and nephew entertained. MATCH Market & Bar checked just about every box. Before we even ordered, the kids were already wandering through the little market area, which turned out to be half the fun. They found a locally designed jigsaw puzzle, grabbed a few unique snacks for later, and suddenly I had bought myself a few uninterrupted minutes to look over the menu. Parents, aunts, uncles... you know those moments are priceless. Now let's talk about the food. We went all in. Salmon, steak, fresh salads, wings, tacos, appetizers, a sandwich (don't ask me which one because everybody was reaching across the table stealing bites), fries, and every plate was a winner. Everything tasted fresh and had just enough creativity without trying too hard to be "chef-y." It felt like the kind of menu where almost anyone can find something they'll enjoy. My one... and only..,. complaint? The ordering system. Call me old-fashioned, but I'm still a fan of sitting down, having someone take my order, and easing into the dining experience. Ordering at the register, grabbing a table number, and waiting for food delivery always feels a little like upscale cafeteria dining to me. It certainly didn't ruin the experience, but if MATCH ever switched to full table service, I'd probably become a regular. The atmosphere was easygoing and welcoming. We visited early in the afternoon, so it wasn't buzzing just yet. We enjoyed our meal, caught up on family gossip, laughed way too loudly a few times, and then headed out. I noticed they host live music and other events in the evenings, though, and I have a feeling the whole place takes on a completely different personality after dark. If you're looking for a casual lunch with fresh food, good ingredients, and a downtown location that somehow manages to avoid feeling chaotic, MATCH is absolutely worth checking out. The pricing was fair and appropriate for this area, so that was a plus. It's the kind of place that's equally good for a quick bite, meeting friends, or bringing out-of-town guests who want something a little different. Will I be back? I think so. But next time I'm coming in the evening. I want to see this place with a cocktail in hand, music playing, and a little more of the energy that I suspect makes MATCH shine.

About the place the direction they were going and how to be an artist if I wanted to dabble a bit!!! They host little sessions in this cute little studio and if you care to indulge, walk around the hotel, there is art everywhere. The bar is fun and lively and the bartenders are wonderful!!! Good looking out for when I left my computer mouse at bar staff one morning. Ha ha ha. The hotel restaurant is trendy and the menu is solid. Prices are reasonable and food all tastes darn good!!! Rooms were large and very open!!! Keep this in mind if rooming with someone. Bathroom is frosted glass walls. FYI. It can get a little noisy at night. lol. Pool is nice, no life guard. But also not that large. Pleasant. All in all I had a good stay here 5 nights! I would love to do it again!!!

Fourth of July: Sunset & Sparks at Vīb Hotel Tempe…read more We're a little late getting this one posted, but this rooftop celebration was definitely worth sharing. We had the opportunity to attend Sunset & Sparks at Vīb Hotel Tempe, where guests enjoyed an evening filled with rooftop views, a buffet dinner, complimentary cocktails, lawn games, live music, a photo booth, and of course, fireworks to end the night. As much as we love our usual Independence Day traditions, this was a refreshing change of pace. Instead of rushing around, we were able to slow down, take in an incredible Arizona sunset, enjoy some good food, listen to live music, and simply spend quality time together. The buffet featured grilled chicken, burgers with all the fixings, creamy potato salad, coleslaw, fresh toppings, patriotic desserts, and plenty of drinks to keep everyone cool throughout the evening. Sometimes it's not about doing the biggest celebration--it's about finding the right atmosphere to relax and enjoy the holiday. This rooftop event delivered exactly that. Thank you to Vīb Hotel Tempe for inviting us out to experience Sunset & Sparks. We had a wonderful evening and loved seeing another unique way to celebrate the Fourth of July in the Valley.

The first thing I noticed about our room was the layout. Typical hotel rooms have the headboards of the bed against the wall. Our room was totally different. There was a long desk which was the headboard of the bed and the foot of the bed faced the window. As a result, there was very little space between one side of the bed and the wall. It wasn't a big deal but worth noting. Our room was clean and quiet which was appreciated. I also really liked the fragrance of the body wash and lotion. It was definitely a little detail that I noticed. All in all our stay was comfortable and relaxing. If we are back in the area we would probably stay at the Vib Hotel again.

They're not bad by any means (and actually have some nice decor), but they still show their age. This was one of the very rare times when the rooms didn't have a shower but the old-style tub/shower combo, which feels cramped. And the TVs are ancient. Again, this was one of the only times at a Hyatt property where I could not Chromecast or login to any streaming services. It's not a smart TV, which in this day and age... WiFi is surprisingly spotty. I was using the premium Internet, and my cell data was still more reliable. Valet parking was included in the resort fee (or basically just free if you stay with points/awards), which is great. It should be standard!

If you're here for a "seamless hotel and guest experience", less-so. This review is over the hotel itself as other reviewers seem to be reviewing the Lylo Swim Club which is NOT the hotel. STUFF TO NOTE: -Things from other reviewers are not accurate any longer. For example, there doesn't appear to be any free drinks for guests. The popsicles are still around. Check with Rise's website to be sure. -Rise is made up of three "buildings": the lobby room, a 3-story motel building, and a second 3-story motel building. The "second" 3-story motel building wraps around the Lylo Swim Club bar. As far as I can tell (and by how the staff seemed confused by basic hotel questions like "When does the pool open for hotel guests?"), the Lylo Swim Club bar is a separate business from the Rise hotel itself. -There aren't any "curtains" on some of the windows (they're frosted, so you can't see through them, but light gets in). The room was filled with sunlight streaming in around 4AM both nights. -We really wanted to make sure we got a pool-side chair since you pay a resort fee for "priority" seating. After multiple calls and texts, we were told you can tell the Lylo Swim Club that you're a hotel guest for priority seating when you go to the club itself, day of. I did not see any chairs blocked off for *only* hotel guests, and I don't know what would happen if the Swim Club already had full capacity of people using the chairs. We were told "upgrading" to a bed (versus the chaise loungers) would be a reduced $50 for hotel guests. -Right next to Rise is a small liquor store that sells household essentials (we wanted bug spray after being eaten alive at the pool and neither the Lobby nor employees nor bar had any) as well as a good selection of alcohol. Great selection of mixers too. You could easily save a ton of money if you popped into here and grabbed a mixer and alcohol for room use. -We were told the pool opened to guests at 7AM. My keycard let me in just fine at 7:03AM. There is no service or food or drink or anything, but it's a completely empty pool at nice temperatures that early. -You can see into room 105, clear as day, if you're taking the elevator. You could potentially even see into the shower. I'd avoid room 105 if you're shy, or y'know, it'd be a great room if you're trying for that vibe. PROS: -A ton of work and care has gone into the building set-up and greenery set up to really make it feel like Rise is an escape from reality. When walking between the buildings, it's impossible to see or hear the busy city street right next to it. You mostly stay in the shade, and tall walls make it impossible to "see" off the property into reality too. -If you wanted to 'escape from reality', you have a lot of easy walkable choices here. On-property, you can get coffee from Cartel Roasting (just as close as walking to the pool bathrooms) or overpriced food from the Lylo Swim Club. If you're here on a weekend, they also have their rooftop restaurant. If you are open to walking through a single parking lot, the back exit off Rise leads directly into the parking lot for the Newton which gives you Toasted Owl Cafe, Tesota, and the Changing Hands Bookstore. -Price was impressively low. I know it's partially because it's the hot Phoenix summer, but still, less than $200 a night for their top-tier room is a steal. -The rooms are SO pretty and well-themed, and if you get "large picture" shots, they look fun and retro. CONS: -Why in the world is the elevator for building D not labeled clearly? We spent a good 20 minutes after check-in wandering with luggage to find out that the only entrance to the building's elevator shares a porch/balcony with room 105. -The rooms are functionally "clean" but visually less-so. We didn't find any garbage, hairs, or any signs of previous guests, but it isn't visually immaculate. The concrete flooring is peeling up. There are large brown stains on the complimentary robes. Some of the wallpaper is coming up, and almost all vertical, non-used surfaces (like the headboard) are coated in dust. -Our sink was plugged up when we got in and drained extremely slowly. We did not report this to staff as I didn't want to be interrupted, so this is partially on me. -Housekeeping came by on one day of our stay. I'm not sure what happened. They replaced the towels and folded the last square of the mostly-empty toilet paper roll. They emptied trash, but the bed remained unmade. It was a really odd housekeeping experience. -Again, I didn't report this, but as a "party" hotel, there were lots of bumping and screaming and loud nearby guests all the way up until 4AM. We had an early start and figured finding our phone, finding the number to text, and texting the number to complain about noise would interrupt sleep more than just trying to sleep.

Only minor downside was water pressure and sink water came out weak and sprayed kinda funny. Staff and free breakfast were decent. The bottled water in the rooms are a little pricey if you aren't a high enough Hyatt member, better off taking a walk to a grocery store to get it better and cheaper water. A little disappointed in that since you're in such a hot climate charging $3 for a small bottle.

They didn't care. Lame. The maintenance guy who brought me an iron and ironing board was the nicest & professional employee. Won't return.

The clerk was nice, and let us know about the weekend Farmer's Market in the plaza the next morning. The room was comfortable. We only had 3 towels for 3 people, so we had to request towels. We also requested maid service, but never got it. No stress, tho. They brought us a microwave upon request, very awesome! Overall, the price was fair and the location was great! The parking fee was a little high, but we had guaranteed parking for our entire stay so that was nice for the cost.

PROS: -The hotel provides two free, in-the-fridge, water bottles per day. That's such a great benefit, and we continually used them to stay hydrated in this heat. -Hotel staff was extremely friendly, and they'd greet us or say good-bye at every interaction. Every interaction we had with hotel staff was fantastic. -The shower was fantastic. It had a handheld shower head AND rainfall shower you can choose between. The controls were placed on the entrance side of the shower, ensuring you don't get shot with ice cold water while trying to turn it on. -Elevators were fast, and we rarely waited for one. -Room was clean and surprisingly spacious for being downtown. Zero complaints. -Extremely walkable to the convention center. Even in the ridiculous heat, it was a pretty short, not-horrific walk to the convention center. -The hotel is right next to the Arizona Center mall-esque area. There are cute events there (Farmer's Market, celebrations, etc.) in addition to a few restaurants. It could use more restaurants, but they're within a block's walk if you're staying local. -You're walkable to Roosevelt Row and the stadium. It's a longer walk, but it's doable. -You're also walkable to the Lightrail very easily. -They have a small selection of purchasable food items including frozen mini pizzas and ice cream. The room does not have a microwave by default, but they can bring one to your room upon request. CONS: -I saw a lot of people doing laptop work in the lobby. This is probably because the room doesn't really have a business chair or desk. It has a circular table with a lounge chair next to it. It'll work for doing work, but it's not great for looking presentable on business calls (with your slouched position) or back support for 8 hours. -The water from the spigot either comes out "Flaming Hot" or "Warm". There is no cold, and attempts to get it to "cold" just don't happen. Our shortcut: fill up your water bottle than tuck it into the fridge for a bit. -During Phoenix summer, with outdoor temps at 110, we couldn't get the AC to get under 74 degrees with the curtains fully drawn. When we opened the curtains, it couldn't get under 77. I assumed that all hotels in the area had the same issue, but the hotel we went to next stayed under 70 easily. I didn't report that it wasn't working nor have anyone come check the AC, though. -There are lots of bars and restaurants in the area, so I'm not sure the AC needed to compete, but the single in-lobby bar felt very generic and unremarkable compared to some downtown hotel bars I've been to in other metro areas.

I've already booked my second stay for October during Pride weekend, and I couldn't be more excited to return. If you're looking for an amazing experience at a great hotel that's smaller and close to everything, this is the place for you. It started with the check-in process, which was apparently a training session for a new front desk clerk - which isn't so bad except that the person doing the training kept screwing it up and had to restart the process a couple of times. When we finally got up to our room it was actually nice, clean, comfortable, but didn't have any view to speak of. The tiny window had a perfect view of a wall and the condenser unit of the room's mini-split. Hot water was nearly non-existent...we had to open the sink and the bathtub for nearly 15 minutes - this isn't an exaggeration...we literally clocked it at just over 14 minutes before hot water finally came out of the faucets. We were just about to call and ask for a new room when it finally started working. We DID call down to the front desk right as we started the water to ask for some extra towels, since despite a reservation being made for two people in a king room there was only one towel. Not one SET of towels...ONE TOWEL. 20 minutes later there was no towel, we called a second time and about an hour later we finally had our towels. The hotel wasn't even that busy so that can't even be used as an excuse here. We then decided to go check out the rooftop lounge which was one of the main reasons we wanted to stay here, but - of course - it was closed for "renovations." The next say we went down the their restaurant, The Pied Piper, for breakfast. To say the staff was the rudest staff I've ever encountered is an understatement. I've lived and traveled to over 16 countries and to more than half of the continental US an I have never encountered staff like this in a hotel restaurant. Maybe at a waffle house in Atlanta, but not a hotel. After screwing up our order a few times and getting all huffy about it, they finally got to a point where we could pay and go find a table to wait for our food. As I was paying I noticed that the little checkboxes for the automatically calculated tips looked a bit off. For a bill of $22.17 the 18% box was nearly $10, and remaining three boxes were increasingly off by several orders of magnitude. Simple mental arithmetic will tell you that 18% should be around $4 (officially calculated to be $3.99 for this bill). When I showed it to the already rude and incompetent individual working behind the counter, clearly demonstrating to her that the lowest tip labeled 18% was actually 44%, AND verifying it with AI since she apparently had never seen a calculator before, she proceeded to make some excuses followed by a "whatever" and walked off, leaving me holding a receipt wondering what the hell is wrong with these people. We eventually finally got our food, which they couldn't figure out what table to deliver to since they forgot to give us a little table number thingy...to which the aforementioned counter clerk replied, "those motherfuckers over there" pointing to us. We should have left, but we were hungry and there's nothing decent close to the hotel on a rainy day so we ate it...and both ended up sick for the rest of the day. I brought this to the attention of the front desk staff but I have no faith it'll go anywhere given the check-in experience and the general giveashitiveness demonstrated by the rest of the staff. I will be sending this to the Attorney General's office as well as the Health Department for investigation, because this place deserves to be torn apart piece by piece until someone is fined, arrested or it's just shut the hell down. I STRONGLY urge anyone considering staying here to think twice about it, there are cheaper hotels that are worlds better than this...but if you simply must stay here AVOID THE RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS!!!! You've been warned.

I'm not one to stay at super fancy places, but I did this time and this was niiiiiice! The lobby is very welcoming and high end. There's a fully stocked bar with a friendly staff. The front desk employees are very friendly, always greeting you as you leave and enter the hotel. You do need your room key to go up the elevator, so if you have a guest visiting you, you'll have to go downstairs to get them. The Kauboi ("cowboy") restaurant is located inside the hotel on the 3rd floor. Known for their premium steaks and supposedly the best sushi in Scottsdale, it's something I hope I can check out next time. I have heard good things about it, so I'm looking forward to it. The rooms are very well appointed with a mini fridge, premium toiletries and even thick, plush bath robes which was a nice touch. They even have a "Romance Kit" stocked along with the alcohol for those feeling frisky, lol. Of course you'll be charged for the items you use/drink. The hotel is clean and the valet guys were helpful. I saw some reviews commenting about a security guard and that the valet guys weren't helpful, but not while I was there. Perhaps those reviews were from early on when the hotel opened last year?! All I know is, I was impressed from the moment I walked in. The hotel is high end and very classy. I also like that it didn't seem super busy, which is a problem at most fancy hotels. This is one for the books! If you have the chance to stay here, DO IT!!

When I closed out, I was shocked to see that the "house wine" I had been served was Duckhorn and cost $40 for a single glass. I asked the bartender if that was actually their house wine, and she told me yes. Whether that is truly the hotel's standard house pour or not, charging $40 without mentioning the price when someone specifically asks for a "house wine" feels incredibly misleading. When a guest orders a house wine, there is a reasonable expectation that they're asking for the bar's standard, moderately priced pour -- not a premium $40 glass. If your house wine really is $40, that absolutely should be communicated before pouring it. The hotel itself is beautiful and I was looking forward to checking out the rooftop, but this left a terrible first impression. At a luxury property, I expect premium pricing. I don't expect to feel blindsided by it. One star... the property is impressive, but the bar experience and lack of transparency were extremely disappointing.
