Great buffalo 5 star restaurant that has amazing food and great customer service! They have amazing specials and an amazing regular menu. The steaks are just delicious and the almond lace cookie cup doesn't bring you back, then you don't know what's good for ya! I live a few blocks away and my boyfriend and I just walked over for an appetizer and a few drinks. The bar was packed on a Friday night t 7pm! We got the shrimp and lobster bisque with the steak tartare to share. It was just so good and filling for a couple to share. Went here for the first time. Surprisingly in the time of COVID it was PACKED. If you walked in there you'd think COVID doesn't exist. It was extremely loud and between wearing the mask and volume inside it was extremely difficult to hear yourself think or the hostess or waiter. They have plastic shields set up at the bar but in reality that doesn't do anything when the person you're sitting next to is leaning over. Pretty much was everyone at the bar; leaning over the shields to carry on with their conversations. The cocktail menu is limited but I stuck with one gin cocktail the whole time which was good. We had the tuna tartare for an appetizer as it was highly recommended to us. It was lackluster. It could have used more salt or pepper as the tuna they were serving in itself was not flavorful. I mean when you have raw fish daily in Hawaii everything else tastes ..not so great. As far as the main course it was your standard wedding banquet food. I had the steak which in itself was cooked to the degree I asked and was flavorful. The side dishes were youre typical bland vegetables you get served at a wedding. My guest had the swordfish which I was shocked they got based on there talk about wanting to get a steak. I had a bite. It was slightly over cooked and really had no taste. I'm not sure what the hype surround this restaurant is. Or how people can suggest this is one of the best restaurants in Buffalo. My first time there in the new year and after the long awaited expansion. The food, music selection so smooth and ambience was so amazing last night that I actually signed up for Yelp just to post this review. THE staff understood absolutely everything about our group, the dinner and the wine that followed. A great wine recommendation from Michael our waiter and I would also like to thank the young lady that merely checked on us as we ran approximately 40 minutes over a reservation at the bar. Great food. Oysters were on point. Thai calamari was an interesting surprise in a good way. We both ordered the fish specials. I think one was halibut and the other was really good as well. We were too full for dessert. Service was lacking hence the 4 stars. The server could have been a little more helpful in selections. There was also a large gap between the appetizers and the entrees. We were able to make a reservation online which I love the ability to do. I started with the Shrimp and lobster bisque. It was a good size and had nice chunks of lobster and shrimp. It had a nice flavor and spice to it. For my main course I had the Faroe Island Salmon. The salmon had a good sear. It was served with cous cous, mixed veggies and a dill type sauce. I really like a sauce for my salmon. From what I see online they slightly change what sides are served with this dish. I was too stuffed for dessert but my husband ordered the creme brulee and I had a bite. The creme brulee had a very nice and thick burnt sugar crust. The orange flavor in the custard was a lovely hint of flavor. Wait staff service was as expected for a fine dining place. I started out with the Fritto Misto and it was delicious and filling. The Oak and Maple cocktail is a must try! This drink has so many layers and you would enjoy even if you're usually drink dark. For my main entree I chose the strip steak and it was cooked to perfection. I asked for a side of gravy they use on one of the other steak entree's and it took it over the top. Went here on 3/14 with my friend, he said that's an unofficial holiday where you should eat steak or something. The food was great, the service was excellent. Got the meatball appetizer which they said the sauce had truffle in it. I was nervous, since some places go way overboard with truffle oil, but was happy with the way you could taste it, but it was not overpowering. Hutch's is fabulous. All the years it's been open, and it was my first time going. I don't know why I waited so long. Service was fantastic, and the presentation and taste of food was absolutely perfect. I had the 8oz filet with blue cheese butter. I cut it with my fork it was so tender. We met here for dinner one evening. We started out in the Bar area while we waited for our table. I opted for a pint of the 471 IPA from Breckenridge Brewery (Breckenridge, CO). A delicious double IPA with hints of a grapefruit citrusy aspect as well as pine - with a nice bitter aftertaste. We were then seated in the dining area for dinner. I opted for their Shrimp and Lobster Bisque and the Caesar salad with Cajun grilled shrimp. I was very pleased to find that they did not over salt the Bisque - a common mistake. The Bisque was smooth and rich with a wonderful silky mouthfeel and small chunks of shrimp and lobster and the perfect hint of Sherry. I added just a smudge of freshly cracked black pepper to bring it into balance. The Caesar salad was your traditional Caesar salad - I liked the spice rub used to Blacken the Cajun shrimp - which gave them a nice bite from a flavor perspective. The greens were fresh and crisp and the salad dressing was in proper proportion - meaning it was not overdressed. Finally, for dessert, I had the Blood Orange Cheesecake with candied orange and a raspberry Grand Marnier sauce. Overall, a delicious, elegant dessert. Not to heavy which is unusual for Cheesecake! The service was very good. The ambiance was cozy. I would definitely eat here again. Beware of parking - there are not a lot of places to park around this restaurant. We had a large SUV rental car due to the snowstorm - and it was very hard to park out on the street at the meters in front of the restaurant. read more

After hearing about this place for over 15 years, we finally made it out for dinner! The place is gorgeous, and the food is to die for. I had a delicious swordfish with a crab and lobster salad on top of it. It was divine! The cocktails are nice and strong, and everything was so perfectly cooked and presented. The place wasn't too loud either, but not sure if that was because we were eating at 5 or if the tables are just spaced farther apart because of Covid. Either way, it was a lovely evening. After making reservations the day before, we were seated in a white-walled windowless room behind the kitchen and bathrooms. The brick-walled rooms in front and to the side seem to have more ambiance, though they are probably noisier. There's also sidewalk seating, but it's a busy thoroughfare without much to see. The steady menu and specials provided plenty of choices, but I wish they used a notation for gluten-free or "available without gluten on request" options. The apps were applauded for their vivid colors and pungent tastes--stuffed poblano pepper with delicious salsa, bacon-on-a-plate, and lobster/shrimp bisque. For entrées, one of us ordered bistro steak and loved it. One had salmon and found it ranked in the middle range of WNY fine dining spots. The spinach on the side was too salty. One had seafood risotto; the scallops and shrimp were tasty, but the rice itself was bland (though not requiring more salt). One had liver & onions and found it the best they had ever tried. The dessert list, however, was easy to resist from my point of view--no chocolate mousse. Service was good once you get past the lack of a front waiting area. Waits were long, but it seemed like everyone was trying their best. As a disturbing epilogue, those who ordered or sampled the bacon-on-a-plate with bourbon sugar glaze had an upset stomach. Haven't been there since before their remodel. Went for a friend's birthday. Was so excited to go back. The service is always wonderful. Sat in the newer part. I can't believe that it's more than doubled in size now. Had a lot of their signature dishes still on their so was hard to choose something new. A few ppl ordered the jambalaya, and it is still as good as I remembered. People were arguing over taking home leftovers. I shared the eggplant caprese starter. I didn't remember it having prosciutto on it but it was a perfect surprise. Ordered the au poivre filet, and it was exactly what I wanted. Was craving a steak, and finished every bite. Very good food. The menu doesn't change much aside from some specials. Always a busy spot and food is very consistent. I don't think anyone ever complains of leaving hungry. The last trip there was just as good, I've been wanting to try the calves liver for a while there now. Their steaks are great depending on if they get them at the right temp. However, I feel like the calf's liver is a hidden menu gem. It's incredibly soft and has that slight iron taste but almost melts in your mouth like butter. Came here for my wife's bday. We had pomegranate martinis. They are not too sweet which is good. Though when my wife ordered a second it was a totally different color and tasted completely different. She didn't like it and the waiter took care of it no issues, the next tasted like the first bartender made. We split the shrimp and lobster bisque which was smooth and flavorful. I had the haddock special. The fish was decent but the shrimp on top and the sauce made the dish. The shrimp was my favorite part of the meal. My wife had the jambalaya and enjoyed it. We ordered the peppercorn-crusted steaks and every bite felt like it was better than the last. Hutch's is a personal favorite. The service is always outstanding and I have never had a bad meal. I do not eat red meat however and the menu is beef heavy. I usually get the halibut if it's on the menu or soft shell crab when they are in season. I have tried soft shell crab other places in Buffalo, NYC, Boston and Chicago and nothing compares to the preparation at Hutch's. I just love how it's sautéed in butter and capers. So delicious. Then we ordered a Sangiovese. The calamari wasn't warm and the banana peppers were tame. Verdict: Gentleman's C. Two of us ordered the Monk fish, one had the steak frittas, and I had the Jambalaya. This is the worst dinner I have had in years.... anywhere ... we had 5:00 reservations and when they took us to our table we found we could sit at the bar and order dinner, which we did. Chicken Milanese for my husband and beet salad and steak sandwich (well done) for myself. Conner took care of us.... very inattentive... I had to keep asking for more wine and my husband for more Mich Ultra. Because of time and social distancing.... bar was not crowded. My steak came out rare... I told Conner it was not well done...he said "I thought you said medium well"!but I said this is medium rare".... I'll send it back.... flash forward my husband is done with dinner and I asked Conner to check my order (after about 25 minutes) he finally came back with my order.... well done.... it was so burned I said pack it up and I am pissed and I know hutch.... blah, blah ... they said they'd buy us a drink, etc we refused. Can't go wrong with Hutch's! Great staff and food. Steak was perfect med-rare, great escargot, tasty fried oysters, and yummy desserts too (hello creme brûlée). Superb cocktail and wine list as well. We are in love with Hutches. The food is some of the best in Buffalo and the atmosphere is dressy-casual and classy at the same time. The bar gets right on the weekends but during the week it's a light crowd. Bartenders are attentive and excellent. The decor and ambiance is fun and elegant. Once seated the food is to die for. You can't order wrong. I have never eaten something I did not love at Hutches. The chicken Milanese is a favorite, steaks are phenomenal, even the tuna is perfectly mastered. The attention to detail is ridiculous, I left for the bathroom and came back to my napkin folded, and water refreshed. We asked to split the wedge salad and it came to us on two plates. This restaurant is hands-down my favorite in Buffalo, and one of my favorites anywhere. We almost always eat at the old bar, in the back, which has a separate entrance from the parking lot behind the building. The staff are well trained, both in the dining rooms and at the bars; the kitchen personnel, under the direction of Hutch himself produce consistently spectacular food, with abundant pescatarian and vegetarian choices, along with enough variety of meat dishes to satisfy any taste. My standby order is a Manhattan, followed by a tray of fresh oysters and then the steak/frites, although I've recently tended toward the calamari over a spicy slaw. Randy, Brandon, Dexter, and David never fail to suggest the perfect wine to accompany our orders. The focus here is on the food and drink to accompany your conversation and socializing. So the music never blasts; you're never bashed around by drunks; you're never hurried to move on. While the service is as brisk as you want it to be, the ambience is always relaxed, cozy, gemütlich. BEST STEAK IN BUFFALO Gentlemen, start your engines! You need not search the Buffalonian forefront for the one truly great steak because I already found it and ate it for you. Ehem... You're welcome. AND THE WINNER IS... The 10oz bone-in filet! It was on the special menu, but I suspect it makes a regular appearance and I can't imagine any other steak on the menu can be far off. There may be a lot of really great steaks out there but this bone-in was divine, I mean that. It's as if God intended you to eat it. It was so tender that I was able to use the bottom of my fork to separate it from the bone like Moses separated the Red Sea. Divine. The steak comes with mashed potatoes, chef's choice of vegetables and some grilled peppers as a garnish. Usually I'll eat a steak and all the fixings at an even rate, but this steak demanded my utmost attention. I needed to clear my plate (and my palate) completely so I could savor every last morsel of it. When I was finished I considered gnawing on the bone or even swallowing it whole, even if it meant putting my airway at risk. Chocking on the bone of a Hutch's steak is nothing to hang your head on (the only thing truly hard to swallow was the $70 price tag), but I still couldn't lose my dignity over it. So, I asked the waiter to wrap it up in a to-go container to give to the dog to chew on (We don't have a dog). Last of all, the service here is outstanding. Smiling happy staff brings it home. We called ahead and reserved a patio table - I'm told a must since patio is only a few tables. We started with some cocktails all we're amazing! East side was the #1 Then we browsed the menu and had a hard time deciding so we ordered it all - 1) Goat cheese and mojo verde (diced peppers and jalapeños we're told + evoo with crostini - was amazing!) 2) eggplant Napoleon - I've had it elsewhere and this with the prosciutto rocked! 3) tuna tartare - yuko chips were outstanding, light and perfect for the tartare. 4) soft shell crab. recommended by a friend before going - crab remoulade was awesome. 5)Steak "au poivre" - didn't even need a knife, the sauce was outstanding, and they split it so my girlfriend and I had our own plates. That openness to splitting makes a restaurant in my mind. It's all about the service and hutches delivers! More on that to follow 6) I'm not a dessert person but my gf said we have to try one. DO NOT LEAVE without trying Almond cake with homemade whip cream and fresh fruit! Back to the service - I've managed a fine dining restaurant previously and my girlfriend has been a waitressed at one (not the same ones) - we both we're floored by the professionalism of the staff. Our waiter was great - we tried to stump him but he knew the menu like the back of his hand, including the specials! Also I cannot help noticing when I go out other tables around us and hearing things. Every person I heard was top notch five star! Consistent with the food and always having a great time when I come here. Menu does not change that often, but the specials do fit well with the seasons. Wait staff and cooks are great at what they do and always make you feel like you are their top priority of the night. Classy bar in back of the restaurant and if you choose to dine with Hutch GET THE COOKIE CUP! Lobster bisque, soft shells crab, oysters raw or fried, and the bison are my all time favorites. The Lobster bisque, in my opinion, is my favorite seafood soup. It is creamy, buttery, with a hint of garlic. With big the lobster chunks in it. Hutch's fried oysters are the best in town, the fresh oyster itself is slightly chewy,the battered is not put on to thick, the fried coating gives a nice crunch in contrast with the soft chewy oyster itself and has a cajun seasoning to give your taste buds a slight kick and comes with a delicious dipping sauce. The raw oysters takes the flavor from the water they were harvested in, so depending on were the oyster is from that night is the taste you are going to get. But Hutch always has fresh seafood that never disappoints. Raw oysters are hard to describe but I guess the simplest way to describe that taste is they taste like the sea, simple as that, but Hutch always has great pairing sauces for the raw oyster and really makes them come to life. Bison is on of my favorite pieces of meat and it is hard to come by in Buffalo unless you buy it a Wegmans and cook it your self. Always done to the temperature I ask for and comes with a great side of roasted veggies. It is very low in fat and packed with flavor. read more
