Hutch's inventory is limited right now (due to demand) but this is still a great bicycle shop. They have a range of prices and types of bikes, so there is something for everyone if your budget is above $400. They set me up with a lock and explained the different levels of security to help me make an informed decision. They offered me free tune ups every year, and I'm looking forward to coming back. The service is friendly and the underlying theme here is quality.

    brand new twisted derailleur

Drove 6 hours and spent $6300 on a new bike here last Friday, but quickly discovered that it wasn't set up right: Brought it home and at the beginning of the first ride I went to down shift and the derailleur got sucked up into the cassette and was destroyed. Hutch's refused to warranty the part let alone help me. They said that they just "don't give out derailleurs", and that they would not warranty it. Such a shame- I spent $6300 on a bike that wasn't ridable, had to fix it on my own and even pay for the part. It's so crazy that these guys would not even support me with a $50 (wholesale) replacement part. They wanted to charge me $125 to ship it to me but my local shop had it for $79 so I just went with them. If you are thinking of traveling far to buy a bike from Hutch's just because they have it in stock then just keep in mind that it might not be set up correctly (brake line also twisted on new bike), and that they will not help you with setup, warranty or even phone support. I regret buying from Hutch's. I should have just been patient and waited until it was in stock at my local shop.

This has to be the best shop in Eugene, hands down! I called in this afternoon with some questions about my bike setup and was told to stop by any time. Upon entering the shop I was greeted immediately and the moment Russ was free he helped me out. He gave me all the info I was looking for in a quick and comprehensible way. Ranging from air pressure in my tires, front fork, rear shock, rebound, brake pads and the list goes on. He hooked me up with some replacement parts for down the road, but stressed I did not need to replace them on the spot. ANNNND he pointed me in the direction of some good local riding! There are many bike shops in Eugene, but this is the only one to visit! If you have questions about anything bike related, head to Hutch's!

This place is great - I walked in off the street with a flat tire, and was out in less than 20 minutes for less than $20. 10/10.

They converted my 2010 Marin mountain bike into an e-bike, and it was not a simple project. I have a small frame, wanted solid range, and needed it to work safely with a rear child seat. Alexander went back and forth with me for months figuring out what would actually work. We initially tried to make a triangle battery fit inside the frame. Once the real measurements came in, it was clear the manufacturer specs did not match reality and it just was not going to work. Instead of forcing it, Alexander pivoted. He found a rack with the right weight capacity and then custom-machined and reinforced it so it would be sturdy enough for both the battery and a kid seat. That attention to safety and detail mattered to me. Throughout the process he was thoughtful and straightforward about tradeoffs, timing, and cost. Nothing was oversold. When I had a quick issue after pickup, they replied to my email quickly and helped me troubleshoot it right away. Three years later, the bike has been completely reliable. The setup feels stable and balanced, and it has allowed me to keep riding in ways that really matter to me. If you are considering a conversion and want people who take safety and craftsmanship seriously, I would absolutely recommend Eugene Electric Bicycles.

The bikes at Lifecycle seem pretty high end, whereas the bike they assembled for me would be mid to low, and honestly, I do have trepidation walking into high end bike shops as workers can be really snobbish. In fact, customer service in general at the moment is not the best anywhere, so my plan was just to get in and get out. And let's not forget, I wasn't paying for the service. Anyway, these guys were great, real friendly, real down to earth, and they treated me no differently than if I had been picking up a 5000 dollar bike. It is such a relief and a bright spot nowadays to be dealing with people in stores that really want to have your business, and these guys know how to make a customer feel welcome. Got the bike home and noticed a clicking in the rear wheel that I couldn't figure out, so called them and they said bring it down and they'd take care of it. That is exactly what they did. On the spot. The problem wasn't obvious and they had two or three guys looking at it, test riding it, trouble shooting it. Instead of treating it as a burden, work that wouldn't be charged for, they seemed to treat it as a challenge. So I hung out in a local cafe for a bit, they called me, I came back and picked it up, no problems since. I just can't tell you how rare it is to find people who take pride in their work, enjoy the challenge of it, and know how to make their customers feel welcome and appreciated, even, in this case, ones who are not paying a dime. Thanks guys. I would recommend you to anyone, and I will be sending a letter saying the same to the company I bought the bike from. They chose a good partner for this service in Eugene.

I came in to check out one alt handlebar (Jones H Bar) and they had it in stock along with the other bar I was considering (Surley Moloko) so I got a good feel for both of them. They had a good price on both too. In a world of mega shops and online retailers, this is the kind of place really stands out, allowing the customer to check out equipment hands on and make better informed decisions. Edit to add: a couple things that this shop didn't have that made it a great place to shop; no high pressure, and no "hyper-masculine" attitude. I was able to look and check out items without someone peering over my shoulder, and a number of different folks came in and I noticed the staff was helpful to all of them. As to the lack of a hyper-masculine culture- well anyone who bikes a lot knows that biking, and bike shops tend to suffer from a certain culture- lots of talking of pace lines or peloton, shredding and scar comparison. They can also be dismissive of overweight and older people (such as myself) who might need, um... more robust equipment.... The staff treated this middle aged ultra Clyde as a serious rider which I really appreciated. This shop was very oriented to bikes as fun an and transportation, with gear that is useful to most people who want to get out and enjoy riding and commuting. They may have more specialized equipment as well but I wasn't looking for that and so can't speak to it. But if you are an avid rider looking for more comfortable handlebars or that perfect rack bag, they definitely are worth checking out. Got the bars and tape and very happy with my purchase!

My husband and I really like the idea of flying with our bikes. We are frugal so we liked the idea of not having to pay for over sized luggage on airlines. We invested in a couple of BikeFriday's World Tourists. My husband's doesn't fit or ride like the one he tried in Eugene. My bike fits pretty well but it falls short in many other areas. First off don't invest in a Bikefriday e-bike. The e-bike system is a retro fit. It's not clean or streamlined and very much jerry rigged. If an e-bike is your end game just get the standard bike and take it to a reputable bike shop. Lots of bike mechanics can do a retrofit. The motor and battery are basically hanging off the stem and seat. I was told this design makes it easy for service and repairs but a good system and equipment shouldn't need repairs. The wires are running all externally and secured with spiral cable wrap. The spiral cable wrap is the plastic stuff used to secure cables under your computer. This stuff is not going to last. Don't buy the suitcase. It's horribly overpriced and very cheaply made. The suitcase is just a case. It is not retrofitted in anyway to secure the bikes in the case. That is done by wrapping and securing with pipe insulation and rubber bands. We've flown our bikes a couple of times and these cases are not going to last the regular wear and tear of travel and airports. One of the wheels on my husband's bike got bent during our last flight. Also don't buy the folding bike rack. It's $200 and doesn't even fit in the suitcase. Presently there are many great bike grips and extensions on the market. The climbing extension on the Bikefriday is low end and unnecessarily long. They are the old school, first generation climbing grips. I'd pass. I'm switching mine out. The bike colors and paint quality is amazing. I'm not saying don't buy a Bikefriday. All I'm saying is do your homework and know what you are getting. For a custom bike it's mediocre at best. Also it takes 30 minutes to assemble when you arrive and 30 minutes to repack.

I have yet to have an experience that went smoothly start to finish. Each time I have received incomplete/sloppy work or at the very least the work took almost 10 times longer than promised. As the child of a small business owner, I am typically accustomed to and understanding of small businesses bumps and hiccups. However, my experiences were not just small business hiccups. My first couple of times in the shop I was disrespected by employees, and I had no plans on coming back until I was forced as they are the only shop I have found that will work on electric scooters. When I brought in a flat tire, they replaced the tire with an inner tube that had a valve that hit part of my scooter with each rotation of the wheel. Recently I brought my scooter in have solid tires installed. They estimated that it would take 1 week to have the tires delivered and they installed. A week passed and I was called to see if I had the tires. They continued to not finish installing the tires for another 3 weeks. Within a week of picking up my scooter, my scooter was having mechanical issues and the motor was not working efficiently. I also noticed a zip tie on the frame of my scooter. I brought it back to the shop and they said it would be fixed in a day. It was not. I returned the next week and when I arrived I was told that they exposed wires during the installation. They had zip tied exposed wires to the metal frame of my scooter. They estimated another day for it to be fixed, and it again took a week. Essentially, it took them a month to break my scooter and their work has likely voided my 1 year warranty. In their opinion their job is complete and my scooter is in perfect working condition. Given their history incomplete work, I am hesitant to believe their assessment and wary of selling my scooter when I am unsure of its condition and warranty status. Bottom line, their work is inconsistent and they promised completed work in a total of 7-10 days and my scooter was unfixed and in their shop for 7 weeks.
