I am an avid bike rider and commuter. I've owned lots of bikes. I'm a little older now and my bike commute is long so I now own a solid ebike. My husband and I really like the idea of flying with our bikes. We are frugal so we liked the idea of not having to pay for over sized luggage on airlines. We invested in a couple of BikeFriday's World Tourists. My husband's doesn't fit or ride like the one he tried in Eugene. My bike fits pretty well but it falls short in many other areas. First off don't invest in a Bikefriday e-bike. The e-bike system is a retro fit. It's not clean or streamlined and very much jerry rigged. If an e-bike is your end game just get the standard bike and take it to a reputable bike shop. Lots of bike mechanics can do a retrofit. The motor and battery are basically hanging off the stem and seat. I was told this design makes it easy for service and repairs but a good system and equipment shouldn't need repairs. The wires are running all externally and secured with spiral cable wrap. The spiral cable wrap is the plastic stuff used to secure cables under your computer. This stuff is not going to last. Don't buy the suitcase. It's horribly overpriced and very cheaply made. The suitcase is just a case. It is not retrofitted in anyway to secure the bikes in the case. That is done by wrapping and securing with pipe insulation and rubber bands. We've flown our bikes a couple of times and these cases are not going to last the regular wear and tear of travel and airports. One of the wheels on my husband's bike got bent during our last flight. Also don't buy the folding bike rack. It's $200 and doesn't even fit in the suitcase. Presently there are many great bike grips and extensions on the market. The climbing extension on the Bikefriday is low end and unnecessarily long. They are the old school, first generation climbing grips. I'd pass. I'm switching mine out. The bike colors and paint quality is amazing. I'm not saying don't buy a Bikefriday. All I'm saying is do your homework and know what you are getting. For a custom bike it's mediocre at best. Also it takes 30 minutes to assemble when you arrive and 30 minutes to repack. read more

Walter expertly guided me through what's available (parts, combination of parts that will or will not work together) for the specific performance and utility requirements I was ing for. I brought my 26 inch bike that I have been fitted for and ridden comfortably for over a decade to use as a template for building a Bike Friday bike that will fit my needs. Something is not right at BF. They don't respond to calls and emails. Walter the salesman, doesn't respond and I get texts from someone else who doesn't know the bike or my order. My issues are the time it took to make my bike and when I got it, it was the wrong color! The seat was backordered and the kick stand was missing. After not getting anywhere nor responses, in frustration, I will accept the wrong color because I don't trust the company to make a timely replacement if at all. On top of it, the large chainring is bent and the derailers aren't adjusted. Bad experience and I would not recommend them now for anything. read more

I purchased my second Bike Friday in summer 2022, a New World Tourist. This purchase process did not go as smoothly as the first. I was not able to travel to the bike shop and try/see BF alternatives due to COVID. Placing the order only by web site and phone resulted in some issues. In summary, I have spent several hundred dollars and several months of time to make my custom BF a bike that I enjoy using for touring, and with confidence in places having few bike shops. I've recommended BFs to many people since my first purchase 9 years ago; I am now less enthusiastic. Here is a summary: 1. I ordered disc brakes and a rear rack. The mounting of the rack to the frame was an odd combination of long washers and advice to bend the rack. The recommended rack mounting system did not clear the brake mount so I've had to improvise a more stable solution. 2. Kojak tires were suggested. I had 2 flats within first 200 miles on the Katy Trail in MO. Have replaced with Marathons. 3. The delivered straight bar handlebars were so narrow that all the brake and gear controls were jammed together and uncomfortable to use. Have replaced with a new longer handlebar, including a jury rig for the bar center split for packing. 4. Pay close attention to your choice of the Riding Style position. A phone conversation offered no good description of the 1-4 posture choice. I went with a 3, and it was so upright that I couldn't effectively use core strength (sort of like a beach cruiser). On my first long ride I would develop lower back pain after 6-8 miles, and have to stop and walk it off or pain would creep higher into my back. I've never had this happen with a touring bike before. BF's suggestion was to raise or lower the handlebars and/or seat, but that didn't change the saddle to handlebar angle. Have replaced the handlebar stem. 5. The h-bar is nice for hand position change but I experienced lower hand soreness after long rides. I've replaced this with ergonomic grips with end bars. read more

My husband ordered two custom New World Tourist e-bikes for our birthday/anniversary and his retirement. This one arrived defective and Green Gear Cycling dba Bike Friday will not resolve the problem of their failure to perform by delivering two new working bikes. Rosey Rosenberg (customer service) gave us 4 options: 1. fix yourself, 2. take to a bike shop to get fixed, 3. YOU pay to return for REPAIR (!?!!), or 4. return at your expense and YOU pay a restocking fee of 15%. He eventually said BF would pay for us to return for repair -- but if we wanted new as ordered we would have to pay for another new seat mast. This is unethical -- Bike Friday failed to perform by fulfilling their contract to deliver working bikes. Expecting customers to pay for Bike Friday's mistakes is outrageous. Rosey claims the damage occurred in shipping -- we can't say-- but BF did insure the package with shipper so why is the customer expected to pay? UNETHICAL COMPANY and representatives. read more

One of the best bikes I've owned and one of the best companies I've dealt with. Looks small but packs a big punch. I rarely feel the difference between this bike and my larger more traditional framed bikes, except when I use my Friday for polo. The lack of a top tube is only a very slight disadvantage when playing polo, though the small wheels can really take a mallet hit. read more

I have not purchased anything yet but gave 5 stars because of the great service while I am doing homework. I may or may not purchase a folding bike but if I do it will be a Bike Friday. Several bike friday owners I have spoken with are extremely pleased with their purchase. I have a Giant TCR and a Parlee Chebacco but to be honest, I would rather ride than read up on derailers, tires, etc so I am not the expert on components. I left a message yesterday and was expecting to have to call again. I was also expecting an intern and a difficult experience due to my lack of knowledge of components. This guy named Steve called me back in 7 minutes. I soon realized I was speaking with an expert in sales, consulting and bike building. When I could not answer a question about a bike part, I was asked several other questions about my preferences, riding and current set up so we could narrow down options. Based on conversations with other owners, I expect to be happy with the bike. Based on the expertise, professionalism and helpfulness of my bike consultant, I expect the buying process to remain refreshing and painless. read more

I have owned my Bike Friday for 3 years. I use it as my regular street rider. I have taken it on 70+ mile rides. I like its low center of gravity, deft handling and ease of servicing. The components on the bike are high quality. I put high pressure tires on the bike and it rolls nicely through Detroit's flat streets I get lots of looks especially on metric century rides. I have heard they make good bikes. I, however, was just buying an accessory from them, their bike underbag rack: https://store.bikefriday.com/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=15436 I'm not terribly impressed with their quality or customer service and this would make me reluctant to buy a bike from them. The ad says compatible with standard racks. I have a Topeak rack on my folding bike (made by another company). Topeak is one of the most common racks but is it "standard?" So I emailed to ask. Their reply was "we don't know. We don't have one to try." My immediate thought was: "Well, since Topeak is one of the biggest rack manufacturers--if not THE biggest--why don't you go find out?" There is, after all, an REI that sells them just a few miles from the Bike Friday factory in Eugene. Otherwise, don't say it's compatible with "standard" racks, whatever that means. Anyway, I really wanted a place to store my spare inner tube and tools, and folding bike geometries make it tricky to do, so I took a chance and ordered the bag. Normally bike bags come with Velcro straps that are longer than they need to be so you can cut away excess and make it work with different bike dimensions. Not so with this bag. The straps are tiny and would barely wrap around any rack posts--in other words, everything was bare minimum. It also didn't quite work with the Topeak, which I emailed to tell them. They didn't reply to even say "okay, thanks for letting us know." The bag's not particularly well made (very light weight Cordura fabric, kind of a junky zipper that snags easily). I was going to return it but figured it'd be easier to have a tailor just sew in longer straps, which is what I did. I made it work, but bike companies, in my experience, bend over backwards to be helpful and make you happy with your purchase. It's a very competitive industry with very high standards and I've rarely been disappointed. Bike Friday kind of turned me off the idea of buying anything else from them. read more

But I got to know the company more than 10 years ago when I delivered and picked up mail there while working for Pedal Express and have ridden a lot of different models of their bikes since. A true treasure for Eugene. As Portland gets more and more reputation as a "Bike Town" this is another company showing that not only has Eugene been doing it longer but we've got a lot of muscle to apply to the pedals of being a super "Bike Town". read more

This is a long overdue review. I dislike posting negative reviews both because it means I had a very bad experience and I don't like putting negativity out there. In this case, I hope it'll save others from a bad experience. I ordered a Bike Friday close to the beginning of the pandemic, pre-vaccine. We had a trip planned to Spain and I hoped we'd be able to bring it along. Two trips to Spain got canceled before we were able to make it. The bike came during the Omicron wave and we'd already canceled our trip. My husband unpacked the bike and discovered that the perfectly intact box had a damaged bike inside. The only logical conclusion was that Bike Friday shipped us a damaged bike after months and months of waiting for it. When I contacted them, they said they had no idea what happened. The crank and bash guard were both simnifically bent. My husband put on a double chain ring from another bike so I could ride it a bit to try it out. Bike Friday said they could send a replacement crank and bash guard for us to install on our own, no apology or offer to return the bike. We weren't traveling, and moved after it was sent, we also have a toddler and work, so my husband didn't install the mismatched replacement they sent. When we got ready for our third Spain attempt with the bike, my husband installed the replacement only to find that they'd sent another bent crank and bash guard. We were disappointed and frustrated. We emailed the sales rep and turns out he quit so Hanna Scholz, the President of the company responded. I thought this might be a good change, since surely she would be helpful. She was aggressive and blamed us. We shouldn't have waited so long to change the crank and bash guard we were told. She ended her last reply by saying if she, "felt generous" she'd do something to help us out. We never heard back. I could write more about the entire experience, but in summary, this is one of the top 5 worst customer service experiences I've had. I wish I'd never bought the bike. I test road a Brompton in Barcelona years ago and wish I'd bought that or a co-motion travel bike. Bike Friday took my money and sent me a damaged bike and doesn't even have the basic level of service to make it right by sending parts I'd install on my own time or dime. I would not recommend doing business with this company. read more

So I hate to give a negative reviews, but after spending close to 3,000 dollars for a custom NWT bike I would expect that customer service would make certain that what I ordered was what I got . However this was not the case ! Okay so I understand everyone makes mistakes so forgive and forget, but I had to go back and forth severals times with bike friday in order to get them to admit that they made a mistake ( I ordered H bars and they put on straight bars instead ). . The service department denied making the mistake and told me I now had to pay if I wanted to change the handle bars . I had to insist several times that they speak with Walter the sale rep who took my order . Finally there was no denying that were wrong and they agreed to send me the handle bars that I had ordered for my bike. I understand that they are short staffed but that is no excuse for such poor customer service . It is a shame because I love the bike, but the process in getting them to own up to their mistake was no picnic and never should have happened ! And ....I still have NOT received the correct handlebars !!! read more

BF is definitely a niche product, but there's plenty of competition. For us our NWT models are everything they claimed and more. When we ordered them over 10 years ago there were so many options it was crazy. We bought two bikes the same for my wife and me. While they aren't cheap they have been good rides. We've taken them around the world and ridden in 45 different cities. We didn't ride but took a world cruise with the BF's in tow and we're about to do it again. We've also taken local holidays via AmTrak and such with great success. The bikes have proven to be reliable and perform better than any folding bike should. The gearing options are amazing. I can climb like a mountain goat. Hope BF is here for a very long time to come. Small companies like them are wonderful to deal with. read more

Pocket Rocket Pro has exceeded my expectations. Wanted a travel bike that rides like a real road bike. This one has SRAM Red components and Mavic wheels. The customization of the fit was superb as was the customer service. Now when I travel I have an excellent bike to ride. My only dilemma is choosing between it and my top-of-the -line Specialized when I'm home. It's that good. I think today I'll ride the Friday. read more

I bought a Tikit express at a sale at 1/2 price, because my cyclist union store, (sadly) stopped selling Bike Fridays. I didn't really know what to do with, as I had 3 other bikes but already when going home by train, I saved the 10 $ bicycle ticket and could store it in a luggage rack. We have discount train tickets at 10$ for a return to the capital but no discount on the bike ticket which will be 20 $ return, so I enjoy carrying the bike onboard as free luggage. The bike itself is a really good runner, I've taken it many places also on single track paths in the woods and it handles really well. It is now my permanent car bicycle, for use all day in the cities after parking my car at a free parking space. I also enjoy the quick packing and unpacking but that takes me to why I didn't give that last star. The mechanism that holds the bike locked when assembled, relies on the spring effect of a piece of steel with a slit and a groove in it and I have already after less than 1000 km/600 miles, had to "adjust" it, by the Bike Friday recommended method: Using a hammer to bend the steel and make the slit tighter. There should have been a real spring mechanism. read more

My Pocket Llama with Dual Drive 27 speed is great. I take it with me on trips since it fits tucked away inside my class B, RV. It's very easy to ride with better gear spacing and down shifting while stopped is possible. Almost immediate riding comfort with the different frame and wheel style. read more

After leaving the review, I was contacted by a Bike Friday representative who managed to put me in touch with the manufacturer of the defective item. This lead to my eventually receiving a replacement from the manufacturer. I did not request or expect this assistance from Bike Friday. I own two Fridays. A Llama and a Silk. The Llama has been on tye C&O towpath, the Tour of the Coeur d'Alenes and the routhe of the Hiawathas among many other places. It flies for free in it's suitcase. Have had it for almost 10 years. Tye Silk is my everyday "go to" bike. So much fun to ride and no grease on me thanks to the carbon fibre belt drive. Who needs a large wheeled bike when you have a Friday. read more

Well I love my bike friday, but their quality control stinks; I think maybe it use to better. I have bought 3 products from them at a distance, all 3 had serious problems. The stem I bought was missing the top cap, the used bike my girlfriend bought was not as described, in fact it was 15 lbs. heavier then they said, and in poor condition. They let us trade it in on a new one that just came with the headset installation improperly done and therefore the bike is not ride-able. Also they pared the wrong shifter with the front derailleur so that it took a mountain man to push the shifter into the big sprocket. I would only buy from them again if I could go up and pick up the bike so I could test it there. I am very disappointed in what I had believed was a good bicycle builder. read more
