Somebody tried to steal our daughter's bike but just ended up taking off the handle bars and walking away with the long bolt and wedge that attach it to the bike. She has had no way to bring it in to get it fixed much less ride it. We were up visiting so I stopped by to see if they had what we needed. The young man who helped me was very friendly and went in the back to look for the parts that might work. He returned with the exact stem bolt and wedge. We were even able to pump up her tires. I've waited a few weeks because I really wanted to be fair with this review, but the more I consider everything it is pretty hard to rate better than I have. When my wife and I decided to buy new bikes we really wanted to buy local, so we chose this shop. Don't get me wrong, I do not regret buying from them, but I doubt I would again. In order to give a balanced review, I will do pros and cons. Hopefully they look at Yelp from time-to-time so what they can improve. Pros ======== -Friendly service -Great selection -Dedicated bike shop -They did not markup the price of our special order bikes... but as the manufacturer does free shipping I could've just ordered directly from them and saved a lot of hassle. See cons for hiw I know this. ________ Cons: -The bikes were not well assembled. My wife's brake calipers were rubbing, and I just discovered today that the low gears on my bike rattle. I had not shifted down that far before, but I suspect either the derailleur is out of adjustment or the chain is rubbing something. I will update once I have the time to look at it. -The assembker did not take the couple minutes to install my rear reflector, just stuffed it in the bag with my Manual. -They could not tell me how to install lights on the recumbent bikes they sold me. -They ordered us the wrong fenders. Okay, mistakes happen, but hear me out. We literally wheeled our bikes into the shop when we ordered the fenders. They employee was literally looking at the bikes. The fenders took 3 weeks to arrives, then they wanted us to leave them for at least 3 days. I am glad I didn't, because I would've been very angry to have to Uber home from the shop just to be told the bikes weren't ready because they messed up. I wound up ordering the fenders myself, directly from the manufacturer, got free shipping, and to add insult to injury they arrived in LESS than a week. This means I had them on my bikes in LESS THAN A WEEK. Look, this is really the heart of the matter. I went to this shop because I wanted to support a local business, and expected them to do the job correctly, and more quickly than I can myself. If I have to do all of this stuff I do not need them. read more

They fixed my childhood bike that has not been used since 2016. Tires were flat, brake system was probably old, honestly I don't even know what was wrong with it. Also my kickstand was broken so they attached a new one. They did all of the work needed for my bike in days. They also explained an estimate range and gave me a higher estimate than it was, so I was prepared for more but it ended up being less (which is a way I prefer!). Took my bike in knowing it would need extensive repairs. Willow was the tech, she was able to give me a quote and walk me through everything that needed to be done to get it back to tip top shape. It wasn't in my budget to get it all done at once, and Willow was great about helping me decide what could wait. The service was fast and reasonably priced. This business will break your product and charge you for the damages. I had two bikes repaired and went to pick them up. The worker helping me told me that my seat had broke when he removed it from the rack. He then told me that I would have to buy a new part that cost $30 to fix the seat that he had broken. No matter the cost, a business should assume responsibility, which they didn't. I don't plan on going back there. read more

Cool staff and great repairs. Jeff at Bicycleway rebuilt the old fork on my mountain bike . The shops in Corvallis wouldn't touch it . So I sent an email to bicycleway and they said yes. Jeff rebuilt it and after he explained that it had some wear on the stantcions. That wear doesn't make it unsafe but it might tend to leak a bit more. And that eventually I should replace it but for now it's all good! I really appreciate that as it will take me a while to save the money to get the new, replacement fork. read more

Two months ago, I visited this store. I was given a tour of the bicycles for sale. The salesperson was fantastic. He informed me that if we purchased new bicycles we could get an alternative sized crankset for about an extra $50. Well two weeks ago, we purchased two matching models of bicycles of different sizes. the small one requires a shorter 165MM crankset. However to our disappointment one wasn't offered. After I got home, I adjusted the brakes on the small sized bike and installed set of 165MM triple cranksets. The larger bike had multiple issues. I had to use my full weight to remove the pedals. WTF, who tightened them? OK, that wasn't the straw that broke the camels back. On my first ride I noticed that my hands were uneven, as if the stem was out of alignment. It wasn't, the handle bars were bent on my, so called, brand new bike. Fortunately I had a set brand new handlebars in stock. I mention, that the bolts holding the handlebars were also overtightened. I would never let this store perform work on my bikes, never. Two years ago, we purchased a new Trek at another store. We received a Trek booklet and CD. Furthermore, were were offered a 15% discount on accessories with the purchase of a new bike. Paul's sold us a few accessories, at time of purchase, at full price. read more

Their downtown store is convenient to my work and I have purchased miscellaneous maintenance items and parts over the years. I have found the sales people to be knowledgeable but at times ambivalent and have spent some time waiting for assistance in a near empty store. Over all things were fine though. But then I took a wheel in for rebuilding. I was very specific that I wanted it rebuilt back to original specs. I was told I would get a call with a price and ETA as it would require ordering parts that they did not stock. With in a few days I Instead got a call telling me the wheel was done. I went in and found that, while the price was reasonable, they had not used any of the components I had asked for. The man at the counter was indifferent and told me that they didn't have those components. I was a bit in shock, paid my bill and left. After some mileage the wheel went out of true which was no big deal as I know wheels can require some fine tuning. Instead of take it back, and, since it bothered me a bit that it wasn't what I had wanted, I decided to go back in and order the parts to put the wheel back to the way it was. I have built most of my wheels myself and figured it would be fun to do it again. I explained the situation to the store rep and asked if they could order the components and that I was willing to pay for them. He was apologetic and told me he would get the parts ordered ASAP and call me when they came in. It has been over a year and no call. I try to be very supportive of local business but unfortunately I won't be back. read more

Out riding with a Springfield friend on a weekday, and my rear wheel started rubbing on my rim brake all of a sudden. Things progressed downhill in short order, to where the rear tire started rubbing on the frame. I had to get to a bike shop pronto. We looked up bike shops and found BWoL. The bike mechanic took one look and said "this rim is toast" I pleaded with him that I was leaving town early the next morning and couldn't leave the bike overnight. They were able to replace my wheel and re-adjust my rear brake in the time it took to get a beer and a bite of lunch - sweeeeet! Price was reasonable, I left $ in the tip jar, now the bike rides great! read more

The staff was very helpful and let us borrow a tool incase we needed to adjust the seat or handlebars. Poor customer service. I called in advance to rent a bike for use the following day. Was told there would be a charge of $8 if I picked up early. That's ok with me. But when I arrived very late in day to pick up, I was told they had a policy to charge for two business days for an early pickup. She completely disavowed what the other employees had said. Mixed experience here. When I first went in, the tech I talked with was really friendly and really knowledgeable. He walked me to the back and showed me what parts they would use to fix/replace my front derailleur and we were able to chat about specifics. When I came back, another tech assisted me. I explained the previous conversation and needs I had (derailleur replacement, general tune-up tweaks I didn't want to mess with myself). Again he seemed knowledgeable, though I felt like I was getting upsold a lot. We agreed on what I would need to have done and the products that would be used. When the work was done, it ended up including more work than we had initially discussed - this wasn't a big deal since I ended up giving them my approval. However, the work was done with different (lower quality) parts than we had agreed to. When I checked in the store and pointed this out, the tech apologized, said a different guy had worked on it, and went and replaced it with the correct derailleur while I waited (charging me more accordingly, which is fair though kept adding to the price tag we had originally discussed - he told me he wouldn't charge me for the extra labor, which wasn't exactly a favor since the labor done initially was not what I asked for or what we discussed). Ironically, I ended up needing to do the tuning for the front derailleur myself after all that (which was what I took it in for in the very first place). The guys here obviously are capable, but I was frustrated about the quality of work/service for what I paid. There are a lot of bike shops in Eugene that I can spend too much money at; I'll try my luck somewhere else next time. read more
