World's best shrimp and grits
Stacy M.

I don't know how Kyle got so lucky to have Chef Chenitha's food truck, but we are blessed! Everything I've eaten here is literally the best version of that dish. Fried catfish? Best ever, seasoned beautifully. Shrimp po-boy? Swoon-worthy. Gumbo? Think I experienced enlightenment. Around Thanksgiving, Chenitha offers meals of turkey and sides that will make you the holiday hero. She's also incredibly nice, as is her family. Support a small business and do your face a favor.

I CANNOT MAKE THIS UP!! I made sure to #HurryBack and try a try their new menu item the HBC chicken sandwich and I was NOT not disappointed!! I tried to make it home bc I had order a catfish PoBoy for my hubs but there was NO STOPPING ME!! I NEVER THE PARKING LOT The crunch that came with EACH bite of my sandwich was far better than what Popeyes, Church's and even Chic-filA could have offered!! I mean the buns were buttered, the chicken was flavored and those homemade HB sauces on the sandwich was HEAVEN!! I already made up in my mind that ima get ANOTHER one next time I'm that way! Definitely worth trying and hurry and do it bc it's for a limited time! I ate some of my fries and a bite of the burger before taking my pic but you get the point lol #HurryBackCatering

Absolutely delicious! Love the truck and location and the food is excellent. I ordered shrimp fries and the catfish basket and it was amazing. I'll definitely be back again.

Voodoo Catfish

I loved this place. The service was great and even though it took long time to get the order, the order was fresh and delicious. Good portion sizes and great flavor. I suggest ordering ahead so you don't have to wait in the sun, but even with that I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch.

Shrimp and Grits

Amazing and flavorful, the gentleman was helpful and so sweet! Can't wait to go back for more!!

VooDoo Catfish: Fried Catfish on a bed of dirty rice with chicken and beef and topped with shrimp, crawfish, and a "Swamp Sauce".

This place absolutely hit the spot! I had been wanting some fried catfish for a while and finally got some of the best I've ever had! I got a dish called VooDoo Catfish. It came on a bed of dirty rice and topped with crawfish, shrimp and a "swamp sauce". Amazing flavor. You should definitely try this place out!

Bridal shower food

This motherfuckn food so got damn tasty!! I swear I'd slap all my ancestors just to be able to eat this food every day and not gain more weight! But seriously, Chef Chenitha and her team are very professional. The food is flavored just right! She catered my bridal shower. We had blackened Cajun chicken pasta, house salad with this delectable dressing that she made from scratch!

The Swamp Potato

Cajun comfort right around the corner! Absolutely going back again! The Swamp Potato is a must but be aware that they do run out fast.

Their meals are Superb, the presentation is % on point and the overall business is the highest grade of professional! If you have a birthday, wedding, dinner parties, business lunches, family get togethers or JUST PLAIN don't want to cook on the HOLIDAY, CALL HurryBack Catering!! I would post more than this picture of my pecan pie I purchased from HurryBack, but I ate the rest!!

Pricey, but very tasty. We enjoyed the food and would probably go back if not for the high prices. Personal preference, nothing more.

Brooklyn's Down South - Alligator bites

We were quickly seated and the service was great. The staff were attentive and very friendly…read more This is a cute restaurant and has a nice vibe and we enjoyed the ambiance. We immediately ordered the Braised Short ribs as the menu said it took longer for this entree. So we ordered the Lobster Bisque. As soon as the bisque was brought to the table we were informed the short ribs were already ready. Since we just got the bisque we said hold the ribs until we eat the bisque. The bisque was tasty but it seems the recipe was different than I had had it a few years ago. Seems it was less tomato based than before but no complaints. When we go the entree it was good but you could tell with the ribs that sitting under the heat lamp while we ate the bisque had dried out the ribs just a bit. However, they were good and the sides were great. I'm really liked the spicy roasted Brussels Sprouts and the mash potatoes were very good as well. Had we known the ribs would have been ready so quickly we wouldn't have ordered the bisque - it just kind of threw off the timing of the dishes Enjoyed everything and we will be back!

First two visits were charming. Food was excellent. Service immaculate…read more Third visit could well be the last. Chicken with dumplings, the menu special for the night, was presented as a bowl of gloppy-glue with stuff in it. Waitress was accommodating friendly, and without attitude. The replacement to gloppy -glue was gumbo with someone's hair on the edge of the dish. A Chicken/BLT sandwich is something one has to try hard to screw up. And try-hard they must have. I skipped the onions and avocado, asking for lettuce and tomato only with mayonnaise on the side. The sandwich was served on toasted Thick Bread, a soggy, "Fryer-fat" non-crispy half breast of dry chicken, with limp bacon, wet lettuce, and tomato slices all on Dry Texas Toast. Shrimp Macaroni and cheese was lacking the creamy goodness of Mac and Cheese while the Shrimp were cooked with Cajun spice. This dish was no different than the rest. In conclusion I think Brooklyn's Down South suffers from Poorly executed food coming from an under-trained kitchen staff. Third time is the last time.

The BBQ sauce is delicious, the onion ring just right. The bun didn't fall apart. The fries could use a little seasoning that isn't just salt because they felt a little bland next to the burger. Oh, and it's less than $13. Like where can you do and get a 1/2lb burger that actually feels like a 1/2lb for that price. Here, that's where. The waitress was super sweet and attentive. They weren't busy which was shocking. The restaurant itself could use a little more ambiance. I know it's more of a sports bar, but it is cold feeling. Knowing if there's specials would help too. They do have several TVs and apparently they do karaoke on Saturday's. Excellent lunch, will be a top of the list spot from now on.

Wow--what a hidden gem in Kyle, Texas!…read more After working late and heading to a concert, we completely skipped dinner and were starving afterward. Most places were closed except for a few chain drive-thrus, but this spot was still open and we'd been wanting to try it ever since they opened. The kitchen closes at 1:30am. Perfect timing! We ordered the chicharrones with guacamole, the Boring Burger, and the Piiggy burger with sweet potato fries. Let me start by saying: you HAVE to order the chicharrones. My husband usually doesn't even like chicharrones, but he absolutely loved these. They were freshly fried, not oily at all, super light and airy and gone in about two minutes flat. The burgers might look like typical bar burgers, but don't be fooled. They were surprisingly not greasy at all, made with fresh (not frozen) beef patties. The buns were soft yet sturdy and didn't fall apart while eating. This is what I'd call elevated bar food with great flavor and noticeable freshness. I'm not usually a burger person, but I genuinely loved these because they were fresh and not heavy or greasy. The sweet potato fries were also a win. Again, not greasy at all. Honestly, they tasted like they came out of an air fryer, which made them feel lighter and healthier. The space is great too: indoor and outdoor seating, plus a kids' play area just outside the patio, which is a huge bonus for families. Service was excellent--friendly, fast, and attentive. If you live anywhere near Kyle, you should absolutely check this place out. We'll definitely be back!

The place is a good size and they have outside seating. They have a bar area and TVs. We were greeted right away and when there was a change in shift and servers we were informed before he was done with his shift which was nice. The food was cooked fresh and we just had water to drink. We ordered some appetizers and it looked all good so we got the sampler. The onion rings were so good. Haven't enjoyed onion rings for years. It was fresh, flavorful & yummy. The while sampler was pretty good. My fave were the rings and mushrooms. We ordered wings because they have wings in their name, so we had to try that and they turned out to be very good. They were cooked to order, a good size and they drown it with your choice of sauce. I had the garlic parmesan, hubby had extra hot because they didn't have the wicked, and my so had the Jamaican jerk. We were all satisfied and very happy with what we ordered. The place smelled clean and sanitary when you came in and staff was friendly and on top of things. I recommend this spot and Im sure we'll visit again when in the area. I'm not sure why they get low rating but I think they did great and served excellent food.

That said I'll be brief as if you've been to Popeyes, outside of service, the food should be about the same. The sweet tea is fairly good and so are the fountain drinks. The popcorn shrimp is an ok meal. They are shrimp somewhere under all the breading, which might I add is extremely spicy, as this is their only option. The biscuit is really good, flaky and soft in the center. The homestyle mac is the best out of the sides by far. Cheesy and the pasta isn't limp at all. The fries I would skip as their usually not fresh out of the fryer but they do have some good seasoning. The red beans and rice is average at best with little seasoning and tasting like mush. The potatoes and Cajun gravy are decent. At least it doesn't taste like it's made from a box and water is added. I wish they had more than one gravy option as I don't really like the flavor. The basic chicken sandwich is BIG and tasty. One can really pick up on the buttermilk in the juicy and plump chicken breast. The mayo is good but sparse as are the pickles. The brioche bun is a good choice as it can hold the whole ensemble together. Overall, it's probably the best chicken sandwich in the fast-food game. As for fried chicken I've only had the thighs. However, those thighs are darn near perfect for fast food. Crispy and not greasy while moist and I've never had it taste as if it had been sitting out for a long time. Overall, this Popeyes is not bad at all and I've never had to wait long for my food. Quality ranges from item to item however since the chicken is the driving force, they're tops in the fast food fried game. If you're wanting a lunch for one or dinner for a family and poultry is on your mind, drop on by for some good grub.

A tale of two visits. First one we've all experienced. Goto work; you're eventually driving around…read moredoing errands and you need a drink. I park into Zaxbys only to realize I've gone all day without my wallet. I'm about to inquire about tap to pay options using my cell phone (been years since I used it). Needed an update and I was about to walk out empty handed when an employee just hands me a large drink cup for free. Well, it was high time I returned (with a wallet) for an actual meal. Second trip I roll in and order the half tenders half boneless to go with a large drink. Head back to the truck and dig in. The boneless was nicely sauced and the tenders were fine with the provided dipping sauces. Sides, well there aren't many choices. Same as that Canes place. This unfortunately is happening too often in these chicken chains. Fries and slaw are fine but I want variety in sides so you don't go into boredom. Credit to Golden Chick for having AMAZING Dirty Rice. Popeyes for Red Beans and Rice. Fried Okra at Church's Texas Chicken. Extra star for the excellent service.

And if I'm not going back, chances are darn good that my wife isn't either. Zaxby's is on Old San Antonio Road in Buda in the midst of Fast-Food Franchise Row. Karen and I were trying this place for the first time in the two years we have lived in Turner's Crossing. The fast-food zone is very convenient to us, so it is often a last-minute destination. However, it wasn't the food that got my tighty whities in a bunch. I was flabbergasted after getting an order including wings slathered in barbecue sauce when we were told they were out of napkins. Did they expect us to wipe our fingers on our clothes? Or just lick them clean? The vinyl upholstery in the booths was beckoning, but I figured that was probably a bridge too far. An employee just shrugged her shoulders, basically wondering what we expected her to do. We told her to find some paper towels in the kitchen or refund our money and we'd go elsewhere. They found the paper towels. We also suggested that they warn customers about the lack of napkins BEFORE they order finger food covered with sauce. Food was edible but nothing to rave about. Karen had the veggie egg rolls. She finished them, but pronounced them nondescript. Certainly not worth a return visit. I had a combo plate of the nicely sauced wings and some pretty good chicken fingers. My bone-in wings were meaty and decent, but the chicken fingers and especially the fries were over-salted. Most of the chicken fingers came home with me for lunch tomorrow because I really enjoy that stuff cold too. There's also a limit to how much salt I can ingest at one sitting. The thick-cut fries were actually quite tasty, but after a few bites the salt just became overwhelming. Of course, our enjoyment may have been colored by the apparent lack of interest in paying customers. Also the decor was the most depressing of any fast-food place I have been to in the area.
