WALK AWAY before you even give this place a chance. I called asking if they carry fuse taps. The man who answered asked which fuse size, so I told him that it's the rarer low profile mini fuse. He told me to come to his store so he could look. I calmly explained that I live in a different city and was hoping to confirm whether they carried them before I drove over. He extremely rudely replied that if I wouldn't take the time to drive over, our conversation was over. Just like that. I remarked that this wasn't a great way to get business, and he hung up on me. I'm glad his unprofessional behavior saved me a trip to his shop. There are other reviews like mine stretching back for YEARS. First, a review of their attitude: Quoted me approximately $815.00 for a five- or six-hour job to install a brand-new touch-screen GPS/nav system I purchased online. Didn't seem inclined to provide a written estimate....not sure they would if I had asked. By the way, take note that Hurley's very poor website stated (at the time) that they GLADLY install new equipment that you bring them...and that they even made doing so a specialty of theirs. Despite this, things quickly went south with these guys and they got testy when I took a week or so deciding if I was going to use them. My last telephone conversation with the owner ("Gary"?) got heated when I asked him why Hurley's seemed significantly more expensive than other shops in the area... ...at that point, he actually mocked me for bringing them my own stuff and stated he was tacking on a few hundred dollars from the start, since it was my own, new equipment (funny in light of the website note above). Then he got even more nasty and stated that he'd basically charge me more out of spite -- before stating flatly that he simply didn't want my business at all. In his last breath to me, he even mocked me on the phone for stating I was coming to get my $100 deposit back. LOL Putting aside the known attitude issues here (see other reviews on Yahoo! Local for this..) here's a review of the poor technical thinking provided by Hurley's: Despite claiming to be Audi specialists, the kid I initially talked to at Hurley's claimed they wouldn't be able to get my 2008 Audi A4's steering wheel controls to work with my Pioneer navigation/radio head unit, other than the volume control. However, with common steering wheel interfaces that I researched up and purchased on my own (e.g., the SWI-PS and a Soundgate CANPULSE), a Tweeter installer was able to get ALL the controls to work, including mute, presets, volume, tuning, track selection, etc. Also, contrary to what Hurley's proposed to do, Tweeter was willing to place my AVIC D3's Bluetooth microphone in a hidden location in my roof light compartment (with air holes that are DESIGNED for microphones to be placed there when one gets the Audi factory Bluetooth microphone option). Moreover, Hurley's seemed unfamiliar with many common options for installing GPS and XM antennas out of sight (e.g, underneath dashboards, etc.), which is often possible and done in high-end cars....and won't interfere with the signal reception in many cases. All Hurley's could offer was a cheap, "stick it on the roof" solution. Tweeter was willing and able to mount my antennas in a hidden location with no impact on performance or signal reception. The kids who work at Hurley's might have been able to do a better technical installation than they were proposing (with coaching from me), but I never got that far -- their attitude prevented me from doing any business with them or educating them about how to do my install correctly. Ironically, "Gary" has claimed on another complaint site that I purchased my stuff AFTER talking to them. This is blatantly incorrect. I took their teenage employee out to the car to SHOW him the equipment I had purchased the very first minute I spoke to them. Secondly, he claims I plied them for information about the install so I could go elsewhere with the details. Also incorrect...and funny....because as I stated above, Hurley's had no CLUE how to do my install properly, which I learned later when other shops explained the RIGHT and cleaner way to do the job. For a place that claims to specialize in high-end auto installs, these guys were comically bad. read more

I stopped in here last week to ask about wiring my 2004 BMW for iPod integration. All I was after was an auxiliary jack, though if the price was right something that would also charge the iPod would be a bonus. While the salesperson I spoke to was pleasant enough, he never looked at the car itself and quoted me $360 to put in a DICE unit- $160 for the unit, $200 for installation. I had done some reading online about the various options before heading over to Hurley's, and $360 seemed like an outrageous price; people were getting the official iPod kit provided by BMW put in by dealers for around $260. When I asked the salesperson why the labor was so much when people I had spoken to made it sound like a pretty quick installation, he claimed that "Those cars aren't prewired, so we have to spoof the CD changer." When I asked him to elaborate, he said that they would have to trick the car into thinking that it was equipped with a CD changer, which is "complicated," thus justifying the high labor cost. I knew as he was saying all of this that he was full of it; my car has a little button on the inside of the trunk saying it's prewired for a CD changer, and other people online said they had done this same installation in under an hour. I'm female, and I don't know whether this guy was trying to scam me for more money on the assumption that I wouldn't know what he was talking about or what, but an older gentleman was there that I took to be the owner, and he heard everything and didn't say anything to contradict the salesperson I spoke to. I was happy to pay a fair price for installation if it meant getting a professional job done and having the wiring set up the way I wanted it, but if I couldn't even trust this guy to tell me the truth about what needed to be done, why would I trust him with my car? The end result of all this was that I went to a couple of other places and got quotes (Angel's over in Alexandria quoted the same job at $260, which was more in line with what I'd been reading), then wound up buying an iSimple unit at Best Buy and installing it myself. The most extensive work I've ever done on a car was to change a tail light, and installing the appropriate hardware to use my iPod through the stereo took me all of forty-five minutes; that's how "complicated" the install was. The car was prewired for a CD changer, and aside from pulling back some carpeting in the trunk, it was completely plug and play. I've never written a Yelp review before now, but the way Hurley's tried to scam me out of hundreds of dollars really ticked me off. I only wish I had called the salesperson out on his dishonesty on the spot. Hurley's may do a fantastic job on your car once they have it, but I wouldn't take their word for it when they tell you what needs to be done and how much it should cost. read more

I would give negative stars if I could. My experience with this shop has been nothing short of a complete and utter nightmare. I took my 911 Carrera to Hurley's to get a new aftermarket headunit/GPS/iPod hookup/handsfree mic installed. When I asked them why the price of their headunit was over $500 more than the EXACT SAME headunit on Amazon, the owner* (*a friendly, but slick-like-a-used-car-salesman gray haired older man,) got very defensive and said that the added price was to cover installation. If so, then why was I additionally charged a separate installation fee? But I digress. The problems with the install were as follows: -Following initial install, he audio balance (acoustics, power feed, etc.) was very unbalanced, and FM radio reception was terrible. When I took it back to get fixed, I was treated like I was a troublemaking jerk. You would think that having just spent more than $1500, you'd get some good service, but I guess not.... -The center console looked like it has been carved open with a hatchet in order to install the ipod hookup wires. I now cannot put coins in there, as they will fall through the giant plastic gash. -The hands-free cell phone mic has a very loud "metallic echo" for people on the other line, so bad that it is essentially not usable. Total waste of money. When I tried to get them to fix it, they were very dismissive, and said it sounded fine when they tested it (I immediately re-tested it and showed them it was not working properly, and they blamed my cell phone. Unbelievable!). In addition to all of the above horrors, I was constantly being upsold on all sorts of ridiculous, and potentially illegal-in-Virginia products (laser/radar detectors/jammers, trunk mounted traffic camera strobe light reflectors, etc.). All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend everyone stay far, far away from this place. Unless you just have a high tolerance for pain, and way more money than brains. read more

My first Hurleys experience was when they installed an aftermarket in-dash navigation/CD changer unit in my 2007 BMW Z4. They were rather expensive, but quoted me even more for the extra work it would take for them to get my steering wheel remote controls for the CD changer to work. I decided to live without that, and also loosing the car speed/volume sensor function. Especially as they didn't tell me all this until AFTER the unit was installed! The unit didn't fit well into the dash and looked scruffy. Also it wasn't the best I could have picked. However it was the one they reccomended. When I called again a few months later to see how much an upgrade to my Porsche Boxster's speakers would cost I got some kid talking crap to me on the phone. It was obvious he was making it up as he went along. It sounded so unprofessional I just hung up and gave up on Hurleys. What a bunch of over priced cowboys they are! Hurley's Auto Audio Review I have found that for anything auto electronic, Hurley's is the place to go. With my expanded highway driving, I found that I needed to obtain a dash cam unit for my vehicle in order to document other's questionable driving habits. Gary, the owner of Hurley's, proved most helpful in guiding me through the installation process and his team did an outstanding job at installing a front view dash cam unit, while I waited, and at a most reasonable price. I strongly recommend Hurley's services for any auto electronic item you may need. read more

A top outfit. I just upgraded the stock stereo (Business CD) on my 2001 BMW E46 M3 convertible. I've had the car since new and it was time to modernize the radio: add iPod, Bluetooth, handsfree ... Hurley did a terrific install. The unit (Pioneer) works and sounds great. They ordered and installed bezels that match the dash. The directional mic is tucked away on top of the rearview mirror with wire concealed in the windshield frame. Three hours in and out with no scratches or dings. Tidy job. I estimate that the cost of using them was about $200 more than doing this myself. From my experience this was a good value. Unless you are a trained and practiced installer, you will spend more time/money than this surfing the web to determine wiring harness, bezels etc. before you even begin figuring how to conceal wires in the windshield or remove the stock unit without scratching the dash. read more

I've had a series of work done by Hurley's over the years. It has involved audio and detection equipment including parking sensors/cameras on high end cars. While Gary and the main shop manager(s) take pains to find out exactly what you want on the install and do a good job on the install, something has always been off. Reconnecting wiring on car equipment was reversed so functions were opposite (up is down), trim lighting disconnected... Now Gary and the managers take the time to fix things and are cool about it, but the fact is that QA is non-existent and the jobs are sloppy/rushed to the point of forcing one to return. I would still use Hurley because A.) They are conscientious about trying to do the right/best thing and fixing problems with no hassle, B) Most of the equipment I have being installed is only done by a few shops in the area, and C.) they are the better ones in the NOVA area. They could be better if they inspected or checked out functionality more thoroughly before returning the car to the customer. read more

These guys are totally awesome! They replaced my front speakers on my Cobalt. The factory speakers had gotten water in them so they went out of their way on the new speakers to put covers on them so it wouldn't happen again. Very nice! They are pretty funny too! Especially since I had to wait over 2 hours but it was fun talking to them. Thanks so much I want to go back now and get the back speakers replaced! read more

Unless you have a very high end car, don't bother coming here. They'll treat you and your car like crap. I had rear sensors installed my c300 at cost of $100 parts and $300 labor. After aa 4 hour install while I waited in their muggy waiting lounge, they gave me painted sensors that didn't match my cars factory paint. One of e sensors was also poorly installed - definitely not a pro job. Even their own shop guys were like ya- that doesnt look right. They offered to redo it ata future date, so had to come back 2 weeks later and wait ANOTHER two hours for the job to be done right. I asked for a partial refund of the labor since I had spent two hours of my time waiting for a job that should've been done right the first time. They flatly said no- not going to do that. I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about, but I had a very positive experience there. Everyone is entitled to a bad day, and I'm sure small businesses have their fair share of them... I had three of my very nice vehicles upgraded there last weekend after two stellar recommendations from a friend and former colleague. I personally thought the owner, front line salespeople and installers were all very professional. The owner, and salesman, answered all of my questions as well as really helped me narrow my choices to what the best solution was... not necessarily what was most expensive. That's honesty I can trust. What I also appreciated most was how patient they were while explaining the new capabilities to my wife. They clearly have more patience than I... These other reviews are weak, here's why: the crew there doesn't like cobbling together mediocre systems into nice cars. They want you to buy from them because they only sell top of the line stuff and they know what components will provide you the best system and understand comparability issues and all the rest. I'm sure you could buy your own stuff but recommend talking to them about it first and getting their advice on what to get before you buy. Even if you get your own stuff, if it's crap, they might not like it because their reputation is now attached to the crap system that you just put in your car. I took their advice and bought from them ( returned the stuff I had drug in there from Best Buy), and the results are insane. The crispest and tightest system I've ever heard...ever. The Focal speakers they sell are made in France, and while the French may suck at life and a lot of other things, they make the most wicked high end speakers I've ever heard. If you want Rolex quality, go to Hurleys. If you want a blinged out Casio with cubic zirconia all over it, they're going to be reticent about hanging their name on your JV system. The line of Lambos, Porches, and high end rides out front of their shop isn't there because of their gumdrop smiles and chipper banter with customers. It's there because they are serious about creating awesome systems, so odds are, if you're not serious about having top of the line sound and electronics in your ride, then you should probably hit the pawn shop and kick $50 to your Guatemalan neighbor to wire it up for you. Don't bother the guys at Hurleys, they're busy creating awesomeness and they know it, so pardon the humorous directness of Gary and the guys if you think it's out of line, but be assured that they're too busy installing the best sound you'll ever hear into your ride to rub your feet and make you feel special. This is the third time I am coming back to Hurley's for upgrade. They have done a very good job on my two other cars. They take care of their customers. My experience with them has always been extending the factory audio system to connect with ipod, iphone, etc... They have a supply of many units in stock thus they can get the work done quickly and prompt on finishing the installation as promised. This time, I wanted to stream music via bluetooth on my Audi A4. I went to Hurley and the work was perfomed flawlessly. The technicians were very attentive and their customer service is great. BTW, the solution they came up with fits my exact needs both operationally and financially, the sound comes out from the unit they installed is super clean when switch on bluetooth and I did not have to break the bank. The after-manufacture radio on our car failed on the drive up from our home in Florida, so I looked for audio stores in our old neighborhood in NoVa. We walked into Hurley's and talked with Brian and were impressed with his courtesy and knowledge. Our choice was in stock, it was installed, and Brian spent about a half hour explaining how to operate all the new features. The back-up camera needed an adjustment which required a trip back to Hurley's. They were expecting me because I had called ahead. The adjustment was promptly made, and Brian made sure I was happy before I left. My husband and I were very pleased with the service we received. They even said that if a problem occurred when we returned to Florida, they would find a quality shop in our area to have it fixed under warranty. read more

Stay away from this outfit. My car radio stopped working one day last year so I brought the car to Hurley's since I live close nearby. They said that the amplifier was broken and that they would examine it and give me a repair quote. After three weeks I was again told that the amp was broken and that it had to be replaced at a cost of ca. $500. When I asked what problems they found in their examination I was only told that it was broken and didn't work. I was persistent and asked again about the result from their diagnosis they said they would undertake. The fact that the amp didn't work we all knew from the outset. This time I was rudely told by the proprietor to take the amp and leave the store. I told a friend about this encounter. He suggested that I should try to clean the contacts with white vinegar. I did so and it took me only five minutes. The amp has been working perfectly ever since. read more

I took my Infiniti to them as there was no sounds coming from the system. 1st they said my Amplifier must have been blown- Did the initial analysis and told me that will need to send it to workshop to get it checked. Got in touch after a week told me Amplifier was OK so there is something deeper they will need to look at. I dropped the car again with them and they did the inspection and told me that radio unit might need to be replaced. Explained all the pros and cons and told me it was better if this was done by the dealer( which obviously would cost me double of what they going to charge). Best part all this done without they charging me a dime. Thanks again guys ..I will surely return and recommend friends for future needs. We purchased blind spot monitoring and a back up sensor for my son for Christmas and chose Hurley to install. I will tell you that our experience was really good with these people. Straight shooters, reasonably priced -- they got everything done and it looks and works great. My second purchase from Hurley's. The first, back in 2011, was to upgrade a 2005 S500 with Bluetooth and JP3 audio. Rapid installation (while I waited) and flawless execution. Then this year, had the same work done on a 2008 SL600. This time the equipment suffered from a manufacturing defect. Gary and Brian kept after the manufacturer (who is in New Zealand) and replaced it with all new equipment. You can tell by the number of high end vehicles (Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, etc) around the shop that customers who can shop anywhere have confidence in Hurley. And so do I. read more

Hurley's installed a passive keyless entry and keyless start system in my car that I bought online (I confirmed that they could install it before I bought it), and I had a great experience. I called around town, and this was one of the only places that would install something they did't sell. I just handed over the system, told them how I wanted it configured, and they took care of everything for a great price. All of the staff that I talked to was knowledgeable and very friendly. They even offered me a ride around the corner to where I work when I dropped off my car. All in all, I couldn't have asked for better. read more

Their workmanship and knowledge is as sloppy as the shop. I spent thousands on a amplifier and speaker installation and they could not even get the polarity correct. Also the amp they recommended for the speakers was underpowered and that resulted in ruining the speakers. Not only is their work and knowledge suspect but the owner is rude. As an expert in the field or electrical repair with over thirty years in playing with my own car's electrical systems I STILL come back to Hurley's for their input. Check your dealership's rating for out-of-warranty to repairs and comebacks because as a former service manager, nothing brought us greater pleasure than teaching a customer a financial lesson about why the shouldn't got messing with an electrical system that is more advanced that what was used on the Apollo Missions. I went to Hurley 's on a referral from my Lexus dealer to get a bluetooth radio installed. He was very nice and helpful when I went the first time and gave me info to help figure out the system that I wanted. I think he encouraged me to buy some of the cables online. So when I purchased the head unit for $100 cheaper than Gary offered and brought it in to get installed, I was surprised that he got an attitude (see other reviews with similar complaints) that I didn't buy the stereo from him and when I asked him basic questions about the system and the installation he didn't want to give me any information. He kept going on about how he is at war with Amazon for selling radios cheaper than he can. Because of his terrible attitude, I left, found a place closer to where I lived that was cheaper (DSP Audio in silver spring). Also, it seemed like he didn't know that I needed a faceplate harness for my car, so I'm kind of scared to think what the job would have looked like in the end. A message for Gary, you are not at war with the Internet, you are at war with yourself, and you are losing a lot of customers. This is the place you go to when Best Buy and the dealership cannot do the work right or not at all. I have been taking my automobiles to these guys for about two decades and I absolutely love what they can do for me. Please know they are not Best Buy so their prices are not as well. The owner is no nonsense but knows the the business and industry. If you listen to him, you will come away with something awesome and at a great price. He honors his warranties on anything that he installs. This is a high-end business so be prepared to pay a little more for the best. The best thing that you can do is come to the shop, ask for Gary, and ask him what he can do for your automobile. Between all the installers in the shop, there is about 50 years of experience. You can be involved in the installation process by indicating placement or allow them to make the best choice. You satisfaction is his highest order but do not expect to have the "Customer is always right". These people are like my second family and you will feel the same once you come there and leave all preconceptions at the door. read more

Called for a quote to reconnect my amp and subs that all had wiring ran already. The job was pretty much done just needed it plugged in and fine tuned. I could have done it myself just don't have the time. Was quoted $100/hr and when i asked if i could have him look at it first to tell me how many hours it will take, he replied by saying it will be $100 to look at it. I don't leave reviews much at all but this type of customer service really aggravates me. The angry older sounding man hung up on me while I was asking when i could come in. I was looking to get a subwoofer installed in the back of my Audi SQ5 (comes with terrible stock sub), and was looking to drop about $1k. I was looking at the JL 10 tw3 and similar subs. On the call I asked what it would cost to get a JL installed and the call immediately turned into the employee/manager (no idea who I was talking to) bashing JL, Alpine, and other reputable brands by saying "well they just have a reputation from the 90s that is no longer true." He then spent several minutes trying to convince me that what I really needed was a pioneer compact subwoofer. I had educated myself on many websites beforehand, and I know that the pioneer sub he recommended is not *bad*, but it also is not in the same league as the subwoofers I was requesting. He also said I wouldn't need a new amp and would install the pioneer for a total of $500. The sub itself retails for $100 so he was adding $400 for the install???? I walked into the store to see what other subwoofers they had but they don't have ANY that you can actually demo. I ended up going to Sonic Sound in arlington where they have a bunch of JL subs and got a $350 tw3, $250 amp, and $80 in installation supplies installed for just under $200. Nobody tried to push anything on me and they let me demo all the subs I wanted. I don't know how Hurley's can stay in business without a constant stream of idiots walking through the door. Brought our corvette in for an upgraded stereo. The conversation with Brian on what we could do was great and he made sure we were well informed and answered all of our questions. They were able to turn it around quickly and we have an awesome upgraded stereo interface and backup camera. Seriously unethical business practices; total ripoff prices. I contacted Hurleys about a simple, quick custom job and was quoted $50 on the phone by the installer after he had read the detailed, step-by-step pictorial instructions I had provided. He said it would take under 1/2 hour to do the job. Everything was settled. Hours later a sales person emails me with a $200 dollar quote, claiming that the job will take 3+ hours. They refused to honor the original price quote. This is a job that most people in the auto forum had done themselves in well under an hour. A qualified professional could probably do it in 10 minutes. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE unless you enjoy throwing away your money and wasting your time. read more

Owner Gary Hurley was knowledgeable and very helpful. He worked with me to diagnose the issue with my car stereo and recommend an upgrade that provided a big impact for the money - new Focal Polyglass front speakers. I was very happy with the install workmanship and the sound quality - a vast improvement over the factory upgrade BOSE sound system installed in my car as an expensive option. Gary also worked with me to find and provide an inexpensive Ipod integration solution to let me use my Ipod with my factory head unit. Highly recommended. Several months ago I left negative feedback that was premature and unfortunate because I've since learned what a high quality shop Hurley's Audio is and, Gary's absolute attention to providing outstanding customer service. Let me explain. I asked Gary to install a high-end Sirius XM aftermarket module in my car. It was professionally done and the car was delivered on-time. But, shortly thereafter I started experiencing numerous system functionality outages with the "UNIT" that were not Hurley's fault. These outages required that I return the car to Hurley's over a period of several months. Gary worked with me and willingly fixed my radio each time at his expense. But as I said earlier, the problems I was encountering resulted from undisclosed and hidden manufacturer design flaws that Gary could not be possibly aware of, even after talking with the manufacturer several times. Finally, after a pointed discussion with the manufacturer they admitted they were at fault and we've since solved the problem. Throughout this entire process Gary and Hurley's has never waivered in their desire to fix my Sirius XM. I can absolutely say without hesitation as I came to know more about their business practices and committment to customer service that this is the best audio shop on the East Coast! I did not want to leave a negative review but based on the experience I've had and poor customer service, especially the overall cost that I just found out about, I do want to share my experience. The job was done poorly and had to be redone. The owner promised to fix the issue. We came 3 times! (3 times we scheduled an appointment) and nothing was fixed - one time the car was sitting all day at this place and no one got to it. No one even called to let us know that it won't be done. Let me tell you, we don't have every weekend available to drop it. In the end of the day, after some emotional talk, the owner did the right thing and refunded us the labor part of his job (not the full refund of course), and we had to take the car to the other place to fix it. It is one more weekend without the car and broken family plans; we were told that everything needs to be re-wired, and the job costs twice as much as we were refunded, will take longer than was estimated in the beginning. I regret the day I wanted to change the speaker system in my car, I wish I went with factory speakers. Very bad experience. read more

Brian was very helpful and great to work with on gathering a quote. I decided to buy my own equipment and talk with Garry about installation, to save about 400.00. He agreed and decided he would now charge $150.00 more for labor and I agreed. When I called Garry back to confirm the amplifier information he said, "You're no longer a profitable customer so please lose my number". If there was a 0 Star I would offer it for HIM!!!!!! read more
