I bought a CarPlay update for my 2012 BMW from BimmerTech, which is a BMW-only private brand that isn't sold at this shop. The install is hardware only -- it's like a second brain for the legacy head unit and iDrive system already in place in the vehicle. Frank was familiar with and complimentary of BimmerTech, so I felt I had gone to the right place. The head unit stays so it's a matter of getting the module (the size of a brick paver) behind the system so it's all nice and pretty. This is something I was not at all willing or capable of doing myself. Frank and Eddie installed this unit throughly for vehicle in about 7 hours (it's a tight squeeze to get it in) and I'm thrilled. It works like a dream and my iDrive is still the main brain. This is a wonderful shop: local and independent. We gotta keep these niche shops running! Highly recommend. Wasn't cheap, because it's hard to get behind all that stuff that looks nice, but you get what you pay for. read more

Came in today in kind of a hurry. Explained to my man that I right jabbed my head unit and needed a new one. Without making fun of me, the proprietor went to work quickly. He didn't upsell me and caught that I just wanted to fix the problem and move on. He hooked me up with a grounding cable so that I could use my Apple play and got me back out in way less time than a Best Buy or similar spot would have. I was just done with my Acura my car died radio gps locked all of it. I'm a car audio novice. I chose this shop based on Yelp reviews. My 2003 Honda pilot sounded like crap. I'm only going to keep it about 5 more years and didn't want to pay a lot to trick it out, just to get it back to basic function. I asked Frank if I needed new speakers. He passed up the opportunity to sell me speakers and/or an amplifier to power the subwoofer, and instead just sold and installed a new radiohead, CD and processor unit. Exactly what I need to be back on the road. He said it would take about 2 hours. I left the car and my phone rang 2 hours and 10 minutes later - work done. On the question of parts and labor costs raised by earlier reviews from Bob K and Chuck I: If you're a handy audiophile who knows exactly what you want; which adapter parts are needed and how to install them, you might be frustrated to pay Northern Virginia prices for "something you could do yourself." But from the perspective of a suburban dad with few free hours on a weekend, I was grateful to pay the parts and install cost (more than the component) because I understood I was paying for the knowledge of what I needed and the convenience of having it in stock. I've reached the point in my life where I'm pleased to reward technical competence and outstanding service. The challenge becomes finding a trustworthy shop that won't take advantage of your ignorance. That's this place. My situation was that I had a bunch of gear i wanted to install in my subaru, i was able to do the tweeters but the subwoofer had me at my wits end. Frank and team were able to install everything flawlessly for a fair price - it was a tough job and would have taken me days. I had checked with Best Buy, and while their quoted price was a little cheaper, their wait list was over a month! Frank got me in the same day, even if that meant them staying a little late. Additionally, they take their time and really want repeat business - if you go to a big box place you will just be a number in line and they will want to get you in and out as fast as possible. Pros: Good selection of components Excellent work done They will take time to explain how everything works Friendly Cons: Prices are very high after they add in the kits needed. Their kit prices are priced much much higher than standard. Impressions: I feel like they did a very good job. However, I blame myself for not taking my time and doing something I usually do: taking a good look at the bottom line and comparing to what I should have paid. The kits I paid so much for are definitely available elsewhere for much less or even free. Crutchfield's is a good place to check, but I was in a hurry and didn't. Shame on me. Would I use them again? Maybe. But I wouldn't be in such a hurry to close the deal. read more

So after going about a month with my Sirius on my aftermarket head-unit not working, I finally had enough and trekked over to Car Stereo Systems on my lunch break. The inside of the store brought me back to my import modeling days as I was surrounded by displays of street glow ground effects, amps, woofers, etc...Frank was extremely helpful and they were able to diagnose the problem (broken tuner and beat up antenna) and fix it all in a little over an hour. They even installed the antenna on the inside (according to them it will help the life of the antenna last longer). It was a nice experience and I would recommend them in the future! read more
