Gary installed a new video screen, provided by me, in my son's car after the original screen was cracked and broken. I called first and it was clear to me that he does t like talking on The phone. No problem because I don't either. I brought the car in and he was very helpful and we made an appointment for tomorrow, Wednesday. I called last week to ask if I could drop the car off tonight because I am taking my son on a college visit. I dropped the car off this afternoon (Tuesday) and got a call two hours later that the car was ready. The price was amazing. I did not take offense to anything that Gary said, nor did I take offense to anything I saw in his shop. It's a free country and he a right to his beliefs and opinions. Do not trust them. They lied to me several times. The worst service ever. I had issue with the sound system on my Mercedes and called this company and explained the problem. The owner Gary told me that it is an easy fix and asked me to bring the car . I took my car to their shop they removed the amplifier to test. However it took 3 weeks to get a response. I kept calling and every time I called Gary told me that he would call me back but never did. I finally was able to reach him after 3 weeks. He told me to come next day in the morning and will take few hours to fix it. I went their shop, he said he can't do it he is busy and came back later. I left my car in his shop and had to rent a car. I called next day he said my car is in the repair and about to finish soon. When I went there my car was still in the parking lot they even haven't started any thing. He said come back later. This person has lied to me several times. Generally, the work is decent. To be honest, not exceptional, but certainly a decent job. I've used Hurley's for over a decade primarily because of the location. it's very convenient for access. the rest of the experience is why I can't give a better review and endorse Hurley's: the pricing is not competitive. However, given the location and convenience, I can understand the premium. I can live with that. the owner, Gary, is a disaster of organizer. The scheduling is completely unreliable. The quotes are done on a cocktail napkin and fluctuates. the attitude that I witnessed to some other customers is nothing short of complete rudeness. The business has so much better potential but getting greatly damaged by less than apt ownership management. I do understand that schedule slips do occur. However, I can only describe the complete lack of customer management and appropriate communication as absurdly frustrating to deal with. HIs staff of technician s have been with him some 30 to 32 years and have seen every auto audio challenge there is and they provide the required installs and trouble shooting. Horrible experience with an unprofessional and racist shop. I came here for a remote start installation on my vehicle. I told him over the phone that several other shops had told me my car wasn't compatible with remote start systems, but Mr. Hurley assured me they only said that because "all those shops are morons" and told me that he could do it. After leaving my car there for the day, he admitted that he couldn't figure out how to make it work with my vehicle. He did, however, promise me that he would do some research to figure it out and then give me a call to bring my car back. Well, not surprisingly, he never called me. Additionally, while speaking with Mr. Hurley he repeatedly made racist comments and otherwise offensive comments. For example, he joked that he charges Asian customers double and that middle eastern people often come to the U.S. to drive for Uber because they crashed their camels back home. Finally, he stated that if the #MeToo movement had happened when he were younger he'd have been sent to jail several times. I would never give this man my business. read more

Hurley's is truly a life saver at the eleventh hour! Prepare yourself, for this is a long story. On March 11th, I purchased a pre-owned Volvo XC90 from a local dealership that was equipped with factory bluetooth stereo, navigation, parking sensors, backup camera, and a back seat DVD entertainment system. None of these were operational at the time of the test drive, but I was reassured by word of the salesman and manager that this would be fixed by an onsite specialist. A signed form stating that this repair was owed to me further solidified my desire to hold on to such a rare find in the XC90 AutoTrader listings. I drove off the lot with my new found Volvo without a second thought and assumed that it would be made whole promptly. I assumed wrong. I was SO wrong! This dealer onsite specialist turned out to be the owner of another auto audio business. Since I had already been in talks with a local imports repair shop that suggested replacing the Infotainment Control Module (ICM) with a rebuilt factory unit, this specialist was fine with me going that route. His main concern was the installation of a third-party stereo rendering the OEM features useless...which is totally understandable. With the additional blessing of the dealership's reimbursement approval of the part and labor cost ($525 total), I just knew I was on the right track. After a waiting a week for the part to arrive, I was dumbfounded to discover that it did not fix the issue. The imports repair shop put up the white flag, kindly refunded my money, and suggested a Volvo dealership. Upon getting to the Volvo dealer, they of course ran a diagnostic and recommended a brand new ICM and control panel at close to $2K! The best part is that they couldn't guarantee that this would fix the issue! WTF?! Since my lineage is in no way connected to Warren Buffet, I was back at square one in early April and calling up the original dealership for help. Fun times. The strangest part of this situation is that the entire system did come on three separate times whenever the front passenger tire would hit a pothole or bump. This seemed promising, for it meant that it could have been a bad solder connection. However, the hard part was having to thoroughly examine my XC90 to find this weak link. Surprisingly, the original audio specialist from the original dealer was (according to the used car manager) "too scared" to take on my Volvo and deemed it "unfixable". This was when the manager declared that he was "stuck" and didn't know what to do, for the expense of the Volvo dealer option was simply too much to ask. As if I had cleaned out a bowl of three bean chili, I promptly lost my s*** over the phone. Could I have handled the matter better without doing the repair legwork and paying diagnostic fees totaling $345? Yes. But what can I say...I was in love with my new XC90 and the honeymoon period was strong in the first couple weeks. After exhausting all I could do on my end, it seemed like I was going to be stuck with a bungled car. My impression of that original dealer was instantly destroyed...but one way or the other, my vehicle STILL needed to be made whole according to the signed agreement! Even though the used car manager and his specialist were ready to deem my Volvo "unfixable" and leave me hanging, the salesman suddenly came through with a referral to another auto audio specialist: Hurley's. With this as my last resort (along with confirmation that I'd have to pay nothing), I called Hurley's to set up my appointment. Gary's positive demeanor and willingness to take on what seemed to be a hopeless case was the light at the end of a most treacherous tunnel. Within 1.5 hours of my car going in to the repair bay as I sat in the waiting area, I could hear the staff in the garage celebrating as a vehicle started up with classical music blasting. THAT WAS MY CAR! MY VOLVO WAS ALIVE AGAIN!! I further confirmed this when I looked at my Note 8 phone and saw that it was wirelessly connected once again to the Volvo stereo! It was at that moment when I screamed aloud, "HOLY S***!" from the waiting area. When I was taken to the work area and shown the details of how the short in the wiring was resolved, it took all I had to fight back tears. Just when the first dealership was ready to give up, Hurley's showed up to save the day! The fact that Gary and his staff kept me laughing in the waiting area further proves that not all is daunting and cutthroat in business. They run a trustworthy operation with an upfront atmosphere of humility, humor, and professionalism enhanced by the staff's collective experience in the industry! Though that original dealership experience was the worst I ever had in purchasing a car, Hurley's came along and brought closure in the best way possible. They installed an Infinity Basslink for me many years ago so when the the ground wire became unplugged from the wiring clip I figured they would fix it real quick. After making a morning appointment and showing up as the only customer in the shop, I showed a picture of it to the older guy with mustache. He looks me dead in my eye and says "...this is gonna take about an hour and a half but I'll only charge you $100..." I walked out. Went down the street and got a wire clip for $1 (see pic) and fixed it myself in 3 minutes...with slacks and dress shoes on..using the screwdriver on my keychain. Disgusting. read more

These guys are like good used car salesmen. Their schmoozing skills are good enough to make you think you've had a better experience than you have, except that, you eventually figure out that the experience you've had wasn't all that good. When I'd gotten my current car, it was as a replacement for one that had been stolen from in front of my house. Hurley's was the only place in the area that was listed as selling a GPS-enabled anti-theft and tracking system that I was interested in. Because they were the sole provider, I went to them for service. The alarm unit they installed was problematic - very temperature sensitive. I'd had the unit installed in early winter and didn't encounter the temperature problem until the late spring. Basically, any time the temperature hovered around 72 degrees, the alarm would start to go off for no reason. I brought it in several times for them to address the issue. Ultimately, they replaced the entire system to address the problem. Happy that they'd been solicitous about fixing the issues with the faulty alarm system and, frankly, being snowed by their schmoozing skills, I went back and had an aux-port module added to my stock stereo. A few months later, the unit faulted (seemed like it had loosened from the jarring driving conditions in the DC metro area). I brought it back and they re-seated the module. Things were fine for a few more months, but eventually it unseated again. I brought it back, one more time, and again they re-secured it. However, several months later, the unit had, again, unseated itself. I was tired of the problem and getting no resolution, so I stopped coming back (and resolved never to come back). Recently, I went to Sonic Sound in VA for audio work on both of my current vehicles. It was a much better experience (so far). Overall, two stars is probably an overly generous rating for my experience with Hurleys, but, sadly, as crap as my experience was with Hurley's, it was still a lot better than what several people I've talked to have gotten from other shops in the DC area. The workmanship and product I received were wanting. First, I had to recommend to the tech as to where to put the rear view cam. He initially installed it protruding out of the rear bumper where it could be stepped on and destroyed (this was common sense). Secondly, my interior panels were loose and bent due to the haphazard wire installation. I had to re-install the panels to correct this work defect. In addition, they left black smudge marks from what I assume came from their hands. I had a GPS system installed as well. The product is Chinese crap. It frequently does not turn on and the screen including my radio system remains off (blacked out screen). But I can't fault them for the make because most of our electronics seem to come from that country nowadays. I asked to get a replacement, but was told that they would have to work the numbers which to me, meant paying for another system. My panels in this vehicle were not installed correctly once again, and I had to make some irritating adjustments. I especially hate having to take time off needlessly when work should be done right the first time. I will not patronize this place again, and I will not recommend but warn my friends about this place. read more

I don't know what all the bad reviews about this place are, but a lot seem like people not understanding the features, or limits of putting an aftermarket stereo in their car. I went into Hurley's looking for a simple part that would help me with a project (bypassing the headunit and wiring my iPod directly to an amp) after the stock CD player in my Porsche Boxster died. After talking to their knowledgeable staff about this idea, I wound up buying a new head unit for my car instead. Their staff was professional, and knowledgeable about their products, and helped me identify a unit that fit my needs perfectly, they even gave me a deal on last years model that was still in their shop! After I told the staff I was installing it myself they went above and beyond to ensure I had all the knowledge to tackle the job. I installed it, and it sounds amazing! I spoke with Gary to get a backup camera installed on my SLK. He wanted to charge 900 (600 parts 300 labor) because of a receiver that was needed. I did my research and found out that the receiver was not needed and he agreed. He didn't just agree, he agreed so much that he complimented my research and bad mouthed Safe and Sound in Manassas because they too wanted to charge me 900 because "they are stupid, unlike him". He told me the cost would be 200, as I made it clear I wouldn't do it for 900, I'd rather just not have a camera. But 200 was reasonable. So I drop the car off, the camera was installed and I got a bill for 900. He said the receiver was needed, but I never got a call to confirm the change in price. And I am pretty sure he just forgot our conversation. While he back pedaled his comments on the receiver, he decided to drop a $100 bucks, and the only reason he would do that is because he realized he messed up. But I still ended up paying over double what I was originally quoted. Very unhappy about that, I felt tricked. I recommend you get written confirmation on quotes ahead of time from Gary. I don't know how intentional the above flop was, I think he literally just forgot our conversation. I give two stars because the camera works. These guys have been around since 1968! I feel so comfortable going to Hurley's because you're talking about almost a half century of superb quality audio installations and expertise. That's just not something you're going to find very often anywhere let alone the DC metro area. This is the only place I have ever (or will ever) take my cars to upgrade my audio systems. They did my Pioneer head set, Focal front speakers, with steering wheel controls, rear view camera, and front emblem HD lights to absolute perfection. Stellar job all around. The owner has a dynamic personality and is very friendly and funny. Hurley's definitely has a family feel with big business results. Bottom Line: These guys are the premier car audio installations experts in the DC metro area hands down. THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!! I CANNOT RAVE ENOUGH about my AUDIO HEROES!!!! I bought a used Volvo in 2015. A deal breaker for me was having an aux port. Which my Volvo didn't come with. However! It came with (@ the time, a 2005 XC90) "state of the art" fiber optics in the electrical "ecosystem" if you will. So, installing ANYTHING as an additive later, to enhance or upgrade the stereo capabilities, was nearly impossible. I hired a seemingly really well equipped company out of Centreville w/many years of experience & several high end European vehicles in their bays, as I dropped my vehicle off. I shopped their very impressive storefront for musical & sound design equipment that I could use professionally. They had a lot of good choices & presented very well. I trusted they could DO what they said they could do when it came to installing my auxiliary port & making it work to t/functionality of what a younger model car can do, today; with the aux ports that are standard in most cars that we buy; current day. Several hundred dollars later and MUCH MORE TIME (which is really more important to me than the money it cost to install); DAYS later, we're talking........they failed at the mission. They DID however, install a very pretty, clean, physical PORT; behind which NOTHING existed to allow it to be used. This was November of 2015. Quite by accident, I found Hurleys Auto Audio of Tysons. So after having pretty much given up on installing my aux port, I chose to take a chance and call them. I spoke to Brian upon my initial conversation & Brian ensured me that "they could do it." "Sure. blah, blah, blah, blah....." Is what I thought to myself. Talk is CHEAP and I've heard THAT before. Right? So I asked him some questions, he gave me very legitimate answers and suggested a totally different manufacturer than what I had been referred to before regarding this project. And he even gave me the phone number of the manufacturer, so that I could call for myself and ask the questions that I had learned to ask. So I did. Felt confident enough to take a chance and Brian allowed for me to be non-committal enough to simply pay for the cost of that which it took to assess whether or not the job could really be done (which wasn't very much at all. certainly, a price worth paying for them to give me confidence that they could back up their word). I was happy to pay it. I booked an appt., the following week for an assessment to be done as to whether or not Hurley's found my vehicle "qualified" (via manufacturing resources & labor/knowledge based abilities to tweek out the seemingly complicated fiber optics of a Volvo) to install the device they recommended for the aux port to work. Walked away....had a coffee...and TRUSTED that they could do it. And 2.5 hours later..........THEY had DONE IT! I simply DO NOT HAVE WORDS!!!! For HOW EXCITED I was to find a place that ACTUALLY LIVED UP TO THEIR WORD and was able to DO what they SAID they COULD! I was SQUEALING in excitement ALL the way home! I just don't have words to describe it. After all of the negative feedback I went through to find these guys, I am SO EXTREMELY GRATEFUL that they were able to DO what they SAID THEY COULD do. THEY DID IT!!!! They have been in business for over 30 years (I believe; probably more; 40-some I think) and have some VERY QUALIFIED individuals working for them. For all who don't understand the difference between regular stereo listening & an auxillary port; with an aux port, one can: stream internet audio (or video even, if that's your game); allowing for (me) not to be forced to listen to radio commercials, dj's, marketing, news etc ....... distractions basically. Not to have to contend with looking down @ my phone for directions to the next place. With an aux port, you can mount your phone on a windshield (or console based) device and STREAM MUSIC, GOOGLE directions AND PHONE CALLS ........ ALL THROUGH YOUR CAR SPEAKER SYSTEM. NO LOOKING DOWN @ your phone & risking an accident. ALL HANDS FREE! How much better would our driving be!? If we were all able to do that!? Really. So maybe now you understand HOW IMPORTANT this auxiliary port is/was to me, to get installed. It's not about luxury here, people. It's about NECESSITY & SAFETY. THANK YOU MILLIONS!!!! Nothing but the best here, and their prices are worth everything they do. Being in business over 50 years helps too! These guys know what they're doing and it shows. Brought in my five year old Dodge Ram truck cuz the radio decided not to work anymore. Somehow a circuit board was loose and creating intermittent FM signals. They sent it out to be refurbished and within a week it was installed and playing like new, with all original settings pre-installed. The price was amazing low. Don't be intimidated by the fact that this place does quite a few upscale cars like BMW's, Porsches, Ferrari's, and even Bentleys. Your Toyota or Honda will be welcome as well.
