In praise of Hunter Communications. When we moved to rural Gold Hill/Rogue River the house we purchased had Centurylink service with horrible speed. A Google search showed we might have an option for fiber in our area. Sure enough they'd just run the lines up our long dirt road a few months earlier. They ran fiber two additional poles on the street and then up our property line and to the house. All at no charge. The service was faster than our Charter in Medford and outperformed a Starlink system we tried. Our internet went down and with a quick call the were onsite the next day. Turns out a critter has chewed through a line at the road. A quick fix was put together to get us up and an appointment made for a full fix the next week. Once again crews showed up and got to work. Bang, done. Super polite and easy to work with and for less than any of the other companies we'd tried. Way to go Hunter. read more

I am both a home customer as well as business. Sadly the company is not investing properly on their website customer online portal. I have all my accounts on automatic withdrawal with my credit card saved for each account. When your credit card expires you can't enter a new credit card information on your online account. You receive emails with no contact information, statements with no contact information. You have to google the business to get a phone number, only way to update payment is by phone. You call and get placed on hold for an hour. Perhaps that's something that could be overlooked IF the internet service was actually decent, it's not. I'd love to support small businesses but not Hunter, I will start looking for an alternative. read more

My Hunter experience started roughly a month ago when there sub contacted crew popped a green utility box in my brand new sod..of course that was before the locate crew spray painted my lawn to death... that was the start of a rocky relationship with this company. Eventually we had our install date.... installer comes in cuts a wall outlet in my living room, crawls under the house hooks it all up... sounds good right! No it sure wasn't, no testing and 3 days later I'm calling Spectrum to turn on the cable modem again.. Thank God I didn't unhook the cable modem... That is the ONLY reason my wife is able to work from home with internet... Thank You Spectrum! Now 2 weeks later Hunter sends a unqualified technician to "fix" the service. Pops another wall jack 20ft from the original (unwired) drills a hole in my exterior siding, another hole in my sheetrock all before telling us he is too big to fit in the crawlspace... of course that was all done after he offered to boost our internet speed to 2Gig plus so the eero network device would have more signal eliminating the need for the extra hard wired jack installation... needless to say it didn't work...this is almost laughable. The technician finally conceded he couldn't repair the internet. So now I am waiting for Hunters supervisor of Installations to come look at the damages so a licensed contractor can repair all these holes...Thanks Hunter! read more

I didn't order their service so I can't speak on that. I can tell you that the weird kid who tried to sell me on the product mislead the deal they were offering. Now I can't get them to stop calling. No matter how hard I try. I haven't yelled or used foul language, I guess I could try that. But short of that I've tried everything. read more

Well, after 4 years with Hunter, the service has deteriorated. I wait on hold for 30 to 40 minutes to talk to someone, only to be told it will take 5 days to get a service tech out. I work from home and rely on the internet to do my job. I went to Spectrum, got equipment on the spot, and was set up and running the same day. I want to support local, but if you are booking service appointments 6 days plus out, you need to hire more people. I heard a comment from someone that said Hunter is more focused on getting new customers than taking care of the ones they have. I can see that. My last call to cancel the service was placed at 4:35. After sitting on hold for 25 minutes, the call disconnected when the clock hit 5:00. What kind of service company just shuts the phone off at 5:00pm cutting everyone off who has been on hold for who knows how long. If you don't care about service after the sale and don't rely on the internet for work or anything else, then go for Hunter. read more

I have had Hunter communication for a couple of years now. I can't complain in the first year. However, this year a part of last year has been totally different. my phone is completely shut off unless I push on in button 3 times. No one can call into my shop. So I bought. new phone thinking that what the issue was. I called and complained and I was told everything was fine. Hiwever the issues still continued. People will call and on the end it states, "Your call can not be completed because the person is busy." This is coming from Hunter personally, because I have my own voicemail. So on Sunday, Jeremy, the tech came in to replace my motel, however, NOW I can not use my Visa/MC machine because of the new motel, also supplied by Hunter. It is as though people at Hunter communications is trying to cause my shop serious issues financially. So, anyone else have this problem? read more

The salesperson and phone rep said there were no cancellation fees. It turns out there is a $200 fee if you cancel before six months to pay for the installation. They said this information was in an email, but I cannot find it anywhere. Hopefully, this review will let you know about policies so you can make an informed choice. read more

Moved out of Medford OR to Boise, ID I used Hunter Fiber for internet spotty at best. I contacted them to close the account at the end of the month well they didn't do it until I called in on the 6 th after receiving a bill. I asked the representative about sending a label to send equipment back got that's your problem two days later charged $600 for equipment. I wouldn't recommend them. read more

Equipment and technicians get 5 stars. Customer service gets 1. Like most fast-growth companies, management cannot connect the dots between those waiting for hours for a callback and a renewable revenue stream. Unfortunately, this failure by management means that though there is a fast increase in their customer base and dollars seem to be rolling in for sales, the frustration of existing customers over a broken "contact us" system will inevitably cause Hunter to accrue such negative reviews that new customer revenue will fall off. But then, I guess this reflects today's big business paradigm of getting your money while ignoring your need for support. Example 1: When you choose the technical support line you get a message every time that says " . . . there is no one ahead of you, your wait time is 1 minute". Then after 3 minutes you hear " . . . please leave a message . . . . ". Approximately 3 to 4 hours later you finally get a callback. But let me be clear; the people who do call back are friendly knowledgeable and will solve your problem. The issue is management providing you efficient and timely access to their technicians or salespeople. Example 2: When you choose SALES (as in you want to buy something), you will still get an answering machine. Imagine that. You call them wanting to give them money and you get "please leave a message." I don't know about you but, managers who must reach sales targets every month don't let machines answer phone calls. This is "SALES 101". In summary, If you need to contact tech support because your home online sales business is shut down due to technical issues, plan on losing money that day while you wait for a callback. If you need to open an account with Hunter for fiber optic internet service or need additional equipment from them then, well, make a cup of coffee and watch youtube, oh wait, just drink your coffee. read more

We haven't even been with Hunter a month and twice we've been without internet for the whole day. Not good when you WFH. Phone calls you're on hold forever and the customer service is awful. Making a ticket for a bill compensation when they're well aware there is an outage is ridiculous. We're one major inconvenience away from going back to Spectrum, which says a lot since that bar is practically on the ground. read more

Cancelled my service 12/29/23 paid up through 1/14/24, however billing rep said I will need to pay for a future month billing service date 1/15/24 through 2/14/24 (because they have done their billings) LOL. I got Hunter so i could save 30$ on my internet bill. Not only did they sign me up with the wrong name, so i had to cancel my account and redo it, (having to pay for cancellation fee) i never got any account info. I could not even use my internet because they didnt give me a username or password. I had to pay for the first month. I switched to Hunter as I was sold on the idea that fiber optic would be more reliable than my other internet options. My internet has been down twice in the 3 months I have been a customer, and both times it was on the weekend. I have searched for hours to find an afterhours phone number. The number on their website just says to leave a message and then it says the VM is full. You can leave a chat "help" ticket, but it only answers you with links to try to reset your equipment, not links to a rep. When I called on Monday I was told there is a afterhours number but they are very limited and there is NO tech support available on the weekend. I work from home and need to have reliable internet service. While the tech's were nice all three times they have been out, I have yet to see the reliability side. I have also asked two separate times and two different employees for a discount/credit for the days I was without internet service as I do not feel I should be charged for a service that I was not able to access. I still have not seen a credit to my account. read more

It's going on almost a year of having Hunter. I absolutely love it still. I have had zero issues with them. Service is always fast with no disruptions. I did hookup a new router with satellites to make sure I always had perfect connection in my office. I had some issues with it, and even though it wasn't Hunters problem, they helped me through it. I was tired of dealing with spectrum and paying $80.00 a month for internet only. So I switched over to Hunter Communications and could not be happier that I did. I wanted to add something else to my account and today Rick the technician arrived right on time. Unfortunately I forgot but Rick was cool and very understanding. He was very polite and professional regardless of how unprepared I was. Don't call anyone else, call Hunter Communications if you're wanting fast, reasonably priced internet with professional technicians. I don't think I've ever had an enterprise/commercial sales rep treat me like I was just treated. I called to request a quote for service, provided a service address, and was told to expect a call back. Two weeks passed, and I received no call. I called again, and the person I spoke with said, "Oh, yeah, we're not going to be able to provide service to you." When I asked for some additional detail, he immediately got testy and seemed uninterested in discussing any detail nor exploring other options (including one I mentioned, obtaining service at a different location closer in). By the end of the 4 minute call, I was accused of wasting his time, and he stopped one syllable short of uttering a profanity. read more

When the Hunter team came to wire our neighborhood, the trucks were very safety conscious and respectful of the neighbors. Following a successful install at my office several months prior, I signed up for residential service with Hunter. The appointment was made within 2 weeks. I was a customer of XS Media and was rolled over into Hunter Communications in June of 2022. With XS Media, I had been paying for their highest offered speed. When Hunter took over, they kept me at the $119 rate and put me at a 30Download/5Upload speed. This account is for my parents who are in their 70s and who did not notice the change and the bill kept being paid as usual. I was at their residence and began to notice exceptionally slow speeds in February of 2024. I recorded speed tests, but due to a rigorous travel schedule which kept me out of the country for most of this year, I didn't call in the slow speeds until May 2024. At this point, the reps at Hunter expressed shock that I was paying such a high rate for such a slow plan (and with speeds that weren't even meeting that plan). A rep came out and upgraded the equipment so that I was getting 30DL5UP, but didn't address the rate of $119. I had to put in multiple calls to get my rate adjusted to what they generously called a "new customer" special of $60 for a 50DL plan. They refuse to compensate me in any manner for having overpaid for my previous plan for two years or for having documented slow speeds since February. They say they appreciate my loyalty, but I don't feel that being overcharged for years is showing me any appreciation at all. If you are a Hunter customer, check your bill, document speed tests, and call in. They will happily allow you to be overcharged unless you call in to complain. They will not offer you any compensation, pro-rated bill, or discount for being a loyal customer. I'll be searching out better options since I feel that they treated me with disregard. read more

We switched from an internet provider that we've had for a long time to Hunter Communications as they were referred to us by one of their clients. They are quick to respond to any questions we have and made a complicated wiring cleaner and organized. We would recommend them all the time. The other internet provider did not provide the service that we were paying for. No customer service or follow up was done by our older carrier. read more

at first I was hooked switched from spectrum, then no bill called them still no bill to address but they shut my service off. called payed then 15 days later disconnected again. called in and said I'm disconnected I don't understand how when I payed informed me they wanted more money to turn me on. I explained that I still have no received a bill and I wanted to disconnect and return back to spectrum. the lady disconnected me and then same day billed me 600$ for equipment not being turned in. our of all the years I had spectrum it never buffered or didn't work even with my 4 kids but hunter did all the time. I signed up when it was Online NW in the McMinnville area. Unfortunately since Hunter Communications bought them out it is like pulling teeth to reach anyone. The only good part that I have found in my experience with Hunter so far is the tech support is great at answering the phone with experienced people and not making you wait 30+ minutes to pick up the phone. My hold times have been rather ridiculous and to be told three times now that I would receive a call back and still haven't received it days later is quite mind boggling. The way to keep customers is by actually treating them like customers and servicing them, not giving lip service and blow off. Super frustrating! read more

I am so impressed with the teamwork and quality control of the Hunter team. We had a problem with our install on the phone land line. After a complete assessment, they replaced the modem box and voila, all fixed! From beginning to end, called the Eugene phone number, talked to WILLIAM, an excellent resource and help...seemed that problem was fixed, but it was temporary, as in hours. Called again got EZER in tech, who listened very patiently and carefully to the complete problem and got it right. Ezer lined me out with scheduling for the next day. He accelerated me to the top of the list. within an hour I got a call from LANE and a same day appointment for service. The best techs ever worked together on the issue, JORDAN, NOLAN, as in Nolan Ryan, Gary in Voice and a bonus of wiring up our four other land ports, which were already hardwired by us years ago, still in great shape. I had had Online NW for years and since Hunter acquired them it has been horrible. Since we live out in the mountains, the only thing we can get is DSL. Everything worked great with a few outages. I expected that. Now it's out much more frequent and they told me if the phone line goes out, they won't repair it. $90.00 a month for poor internet. I was notified that if I cancelled the service while going on an extended trip, they wouldn't restart it when I return. The final straw is they are now requiring you to change your password to get your voicemail, every 90 days. It's ridiculous and I am cancelling and getting starlink. read more

Horrible service. The internet, fax and phones were down for numerous days on several different occasions. When we called to remedy the situation we were given the run around and were told it was our modem. Then when we cancelled the services they WEREN'T providing, they charged up $8,000 in early termination fees! Needless to say we have switched providers, our modem works fine and service is great now that we've ditched Hunter. read more

Hunter has changed corporate hands and mission, I recently found out. A few years ago I had a negative experience with them, but my interactions with them lately have been positive, helpful, transparent, and responsive. They seem eager to bring fiber Internet connections to homes in rural southern Oregon but need feedback from locals to encourage them in pursuing this expensive (for them) venture. It sounds like the Feds are likely to get involved (finally) with rural Internet, so now is an opportune time to call or email Hunter and urge them on and express your potential interest: especially if you live near Kubli, N. Applegate, and the southside of the Applegate River. I have no connection with Hunter (literally or figuratively); we're just desperate for a functioning Net connection! Horrible customer service and I'm not even a customer. I called for pricing and when I told Brent in Medford, Oregon he could keep it Brent started arguing with me and raising his voice so I hung up. He called me twice after that and on the second call he left a message. The message went on to tell me how rude I was for hanging up on him which I'm going to keep and send to the company. Too bad I can't upload it here for you all to listen to, pathetic. I wouldn't do business with them based off of the interaction with Brent. I run a small business and they wanted another $100 dollars a month over what I'm paying Charter for internet, 2 phone lines and great customer service. His argument was it was a whole new level of internet and it cost them over $6000 to get the service to where I am.... Why do I care what it costs them? My question is: Why would I pay another $100 per month for faster internet? How fast does it need to be? I'm not waiting for pages to load currently. My suggestion would be to undercut the over priced service I'm getting now and you've got yourself a deal. read more

I'm in grants pass OR and i called them, I talked to a man named Doug who tried to tell me they are the only providers of fiber in my area and i would need to pay 900$ a month just to get it, needless to say he was not telling the truth as i called spectrum and they have Gigabit down for 140$ a month where I am. not only did he want to charge 900$ a month but also for me to pay for the permits for the pole and installation fee's, all in all it would be in the thousands just to get fast internet that's 1/10th the price elsewhere. read more
