He asked how I heard about him and I told him Yelp. I asked how long of a drive it was from my location to Eagle Point and he said it would be about 45 mins. When I pulled into his driveway he called and told me he had opened a store at Rogue Valley Mall and that he was actually there (meaning I had driven 25 minutes further than I needed to). I drove the 25 minutes back the way I had come to Medford and went to the mall to Smart Help where he now works. I let him know I didn't want to spend too much money and he asked what my budget was. I asked him how much transferring documents and giving me a quick rundown of the new Mac would be. He quoted me $200 to update my old MacBook, $150 for the external hard drive that I told him I was not in the market for, $150 for transferring my documents, $100 for wiping my old MacBook and $100 for a "recorded dock tutorial." In total Todd tried to tell me it would cost me $700 to get documents off my old laptop onto my new one "the right way." I called around and got 2 quotes for what I want at $40 and $45. I dug around in the reviews that are not recommended and others seem to think he is a scam artist. Needless to say I left his store after having wasted time but thankfully not money.

In addition to fixing my computer, he recovered data from the old bad hard drive and shared tons of knowledge about the iCloud, back ups. He is my go-to for all Mac related issues.

The screen fell out of my phone and broke 3 days later. (Screen manufacturing defect). I took it back in and they said they would fix it free of charge. It has taken quite some time to get the part as they had to fight with the company and as of now, I am waiting on the part still. But they have been so nice so far and I have enjoyed my discussions about gaming PC's and what I personally want to build with one of the employees there. Also had an old laptop fixed at one point, and they had it fixed in a week. All together I think they have great service.

Gave them the laptop and the original charging cable, told them what was going on and they said they would take a look. I gave them about a week and called them to see what the progress was, was told they believe it could be the charger, (fair enough). So, instead of testing with a volt meter, they ordered one (that's fine, if it's the problem, then ok). New charger came in, but wasn't the issue. Current debt is back to zero, don't have to pay for a part that wasn't the problem (good so far). Next idea was the charging port on the laptop. Order placed. Week later, I called again. Was told it was coming from China and takes longer (I can understand that). Another week, I call again. Part ended up in Hawaii (seriously?). A few days later, part is in. A day later, didn't fix the problem. Current debt is back to zero (happy about this but the guessing game is getting annoying). Next idea/guess is the motherboard. Will take a day to shop around (not from China). 2 days later, I call again. Motherboards located in Florida (cool, that doesn't take long). A couple days later I'm told I have to come pay for it first as they don't want to be stuck with a pc that's not paid for (I've been calling you, pushing to get this up and running, no money down for a month now, and suddenly they want me to pay 1st). I told him I will be in tomorrow to pick up my laptop and order the part myself. Hours of opening is 10am, was there at 10:04 (stopped by in my work vehicle before moving along) nobody there yet. Decided to wait till my day off. Went in and he placed my laptop on the counter with a aftermarket charger. I explained that I brought in my original charger and wanted it back. He called another employee or owner (no idea who it was). After he hung up, he informed me that another laptop of the same brand was also brought in and they must have gave him my charger (Wtf!? Not your property to give away). Here I am, over a month later, zero progress made on fixing it and I have an aftermarket charger that's about 4' shorter than the original I took in. Although I wasn't charged any money because they couldn't fix it, I was however charged by giving away stock name brand charger and giving a generic one in return. I finally decided to take the bottom off the laptop to see what the motherboard looked like so I can order it. After looking around a bit (5 minutes or so) I find a plug that isn't sitting flat, pulled it up and pressed it back down (it clicked). Got the model of the motherboard written down and figured why not try plugging the charger in, see what happens. It turns on, and it's charging. It works! Almost spent $200 on a motherboard that I didn't even need. I'm not a pc repair guy, but I fixed what a (professional) couldn't? I should be totally excited, but seeing as my laptop can no longer sit on my lap while it's charging because of the extra short charger, I'm pissed. This could have been a very expensive fix for something as inexpensive as the original parts they ordered (charger port... $6) + $200 for a motherboard and of course labor fee's. I certainly won't be returning to chuck's pc, I can't afford the guess work of someone that advertise that they know what they are doing. Update : finally got the replacement charger for the laptop, but since they replaced the charging port with different one, my replacement charger doesn't fit. Once again, this was a complete fail. I'm now assuming that the charging port that was installed ( and didn't need replacement in the 1st place) was a cheap 3rd party part and not a Oem part.... Go figure!

Competent But Off-Putting…read more I contacted SmartHelp for assistance with two specific tasks: to connect a new monitor and a new printer to my older desktop computer. Todd, from SmartHelp, does know his stuff, he is competent and took care of both of my asks. However, I found that Todd asked questions that I felt were not necessary. In addition I found his personal style and certain, what can only be described as business practices, too personal and thus off-putting. 1) As part of the job, Todd's first request was to input my personal information into his phone. I specifically found the requests for both my date of birth & my photo quite worrisome and unnecessary. 2) I found Todd's style of "up-selling" quite disconcerting. For example he said he wanted to take my laptop computer to his home to "set up properly." This, of course, would have presumably incurred a myriad of additional charges, none of which were discussed. He asked to take the laptop multiple times despite my repeated no's. 3) Without my permission Todd input my credit card information into his phone while I was out of the room! Unacceptable! In the end it felt to me that, beyond the requested tasks that were accomplished, I was also charged for his requests for my personal information, as well the time spent "up-selling." I found and consider these things to specifically be poor business practices. Be aware and be wary and further be prepared to say "no," i.e. don't let your guard down!
